I have had multiple situations where the auto idle has engaged and the vehicle has died. Most of the time the car restarts by holding down the ignition button, but twice it's required a jump. I have taken this into Honda multiple times and they've told me they can't recreate the problem, but it consistently happens to me. The most recent time was at a high speed intersection and almost resulted in a serious collision. The below question asked how many miles on my vehicle. We first noticed this at about 25000 miles, but most recently occurred today at 80000 miles.

The auto idle stop (ais) feature on my 2021 Honda Pilot intermittently causes the engine to shut off at a stop and fail to restart. When this happens the vehicle remains completely unresponsive until I shift into park and manually restart the engine. This has happened multiple times in traffic and at intersections, creating a huge safety risk. I have already replaced the battery and had the latest software update installed at my local Honda dealership, but the issue persists. The problem is intermittent and difficult for the dealership to replicate. The auto idle stop issue is a known problem with Honda even extending a warranty coverage for the starter assembly and starter relays. The NHTSA number ea25004 addresses this yet the local dealership will only update the software and change the battery. They are failing to honor the second stage of the repair calling out specifically replacing the starter assembly, starter relays and adjusting the valves.

On [xxx] a code p0430 appeared on the dash board screen. The car was making a strange noise coming from the engine. I took the car to integrity auto repair shop in mcallen, texas, they checked the code and said that it was the catalytic converters that were going bad. So I requested an estimate, since their estimate was too high, I contracted a private mechanic to replace the catalytic converters (2), and another part connected to the system. Also, we replaced the oxygen sensors and the noise did not go away. Then, on August 25th, 2025 I decided to take my Honda Pilot to the dealer Honda in pharr, texas for a check up and they told me that the reason the car was making so much noise and had so much reduced engine power was because the high pressure fuel pump was failing. So, I asked the service representative: if the problem is the high pressure fuel pump, why the dash board code p0430 showed up? ana, was the representative's name; she replied that the front dash camera is malfunctioning and needs to also be replaced. I asked her. . . My car just has 76,000 miles, I paid so much money for this car and you are telling me that the dash camera and the high fuel pressure pump are not good? and, I spent almost 4,000. 00 dollars replacing the wrong parts because your dash board gave me the wrong code? why is this happening? I am driving my car with my two little daughters in the car, taking them to school and back and hearing the car engine noise and wondering when is it going to leave me on the road? then I asked her; this looks like that is a problem from the manufacturer and Honda should be responsible for the repair. Imagine the dash board giving me the wrong warning code? and the car has only 76,000 miles. Then I go and spend so much money for nothing? this is not normal. I feel that Honda is responsible for the car failures. Thank you information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I believe this car was subject to the recall where something about the ais system needed to be fixed. The initial problem was the car would stall out at lights when the ais system was activated. I went in for the recall and had not experienced the problem since. That’s until the past couple days where the problem is back to occurring when I’m stopped at a light and fully depressed the brake, the car stops idling and fails to restart creating a dangerous condition in traffic. It is stressful, unneeded, and puts my family in danger.
Vehicle stopped at a stoplight for about two minutes. It shut itself off and would not restart wouldn’t go into neutral or do anything. There had been zero issues with this vehicle to date until this occurred. This happened in a very busy intersection my wife had to scramble to get the children out of the vehicle and up on the bank before they got rear ended by somebody. The police had the vehicle towed to our friends residence as the dealership couldn’t get it towed for several hours. The vehicle was towed from our friends residence on the morning of [xxx] the tow truck driver and my wife both tried starting the vehicle before it was towed to the dealership, it would not start. Only July 5th at Honda of turnersville , technician mike said he hopped in the vehicle and it started right up and that there were no error codes. I believe he disconnected the battery and waited for the codes to clear before starting the vehicle and driving it into the shop. Where he plugged it in and found no error codes. The dealership technician then claimed he found and old error code in the memory that showed a bad battery. They replaced the battery. The dealership technician story makes no sense. If the battery was bad, the vehicle wouldn’t have started in the parking lot , I feel like I’m getting the run around and that they didn’t diagnose the actual problem. I currently have no faith that this is a safe vehicle and am scared to drive it. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
We were exiting the off ramp heading north on [xxx], exit [xxx] and when we slowed to about 5 mph the car shut off completely. No electrical power and the car would not re-start. Heavy traffic was bearing down on us and we could not move. About 20 minutes later the power returned. It was the auto idle restart that malfunctioned, we believe. There was no warning. The situation was dangerous. We took it to the dealer in vancouver, wa and they found no warning messages. They told us to take the car back and drive it and always manually turn off the auto idle restart and it would be safe. They said Honda temporarily suspended the engineering request until July 7, 2025 and until then we just wait. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
My battery was being drained until dead by a faulty keyless control module. I paid to have the battery replaced after my son and I got stranded 1. 5 hours from home. All the lights on the dash went off and nearly every error code displayed as well. Currently at Honda dealership getting the module replaced at a mere $840 after I paid $370 for battery installation when my car "broke down". Now to see I am not the only Honda customer with this issue in this model of vehicle. The car started displaying all the error codes about a week before it began just completely draining the battery that was on 6/23. Battery replaced that day and by Saturday 6/28 was unable to start my car due to battery being completely dead. Had to jump my car and take to dealership on Sunday 6/29. So was late to work and have been without my vehicle for over a week while they were trouble shooting the issue.

I wanted to share a very scary incident that occurred while I was slowly creeping into a parking space in a parking garage. With my foot over the brake, as there were children in the area from a car that had parked to the right of mine, my car suddenly surged forward at a high rate of speed. It ultimately crashed into the 3-foot safety wall with tension wires of the parking garage. Clearly there is an issue with the propulsion system that accelerated my car forward. It's unknown to me if there was also an electrical issue involved in this propulsion failure. The car is available for inspection. The Honda dealer examined the vehicle but was unable to reproduce the issue, indicating that there was nothing wrong with the car, no codes stored of any relation to this incident, and that it was safe to drive. Additionally, I would like to mention that there was no warning lamps lit up on my dashboard before the incident and none appeared after the crash. My insurance was notified, and they deemed the car undrivable. The insurance representative is scheduled to inspect the car tomorrow. This is the first time my car accelerated on its own at a high rate of speed.

Over the period of a week there where 6 instances when my vehicle completely lost system power when at a complete stop. Took it to the dealership was told it was a low battery, they charged it, could not recreate the incidents and then released the vehicle to me. One the way to work at the second stop light I once again lost all power. Took 2 minutes stuck at a stop light for the vehicle to be able to power on and start again.

After fixing a few of the recalls, the alarm on my 2017 Honda Pilot would start going off at random times. After several attempted fixes - replacing the key fob batteries, replacing the car battery - the issue has persisted and we noticed a clicking noise coming from the dash. Essentially the car would attempt to turn on without anyone near it. There are no warning messages present. Thus far, it has not replicated while driving. We have just taken the issue to the Honda dealer and they have come back with a $1400 charge to replace the Smart power control module. In researching the issue, I've seen a number of owners have this issue with 2016-2018 Pilots and even seen some complaints in your database.

The car unexpectedly sent out emissions failure systems warning effecting the ability to accelerate without a pause in a forward movement. I had my mechanic diagnose the warning lights which indicate a connector rod issue. This diagnosis aligns with all of the symptoms. My mechanic warned me the engine could stop at any time. We will have the repair done this month. Honda put out a recall and stop production for this issue in March of 2024 but my car does not show up in the recall when I inquired to Honda about the issues I was experiencing. They basically said there is nothing for me to do.

All listed problems act sporadically. Dangerously defected 2023 Honda Pilot. Numerous problems with vehicle over several months. Kept taking it back to charlie's Honda and was told they could not reproduce the problems I was stating. The vehicle will bog, hesitate and jerk while driving. Charlie finds nothing wrong. Actually all items that are functioning incorrectly, charlie's tell me they cannot repair anything when they can not reproduce the problem. They tell me that the 10 gears are so close that they skip? sorry, that's ridiculous! finally I called previous owners, (which charlie's Honda refused to give me until I had to show them the chapter 10 s1475 I had with me. ) [xxx] from herman, me. Ph # [xxx]. They told me to tell you to please call them because they are very upset. After several times taking the Honda back to charlie’s with no repairs done they went to get a different vehicle at charlie's Toyota and the Toyota manager told them that the Honda Pilot was a very dangerous vehicle and will not be put out on the lot for resale. The [xxx] stated that they almost crashed while taking a left at an intersection with their children in the vehicle because it almost came to a complete stop. This serious problem is doing it to me now and this is why I’m taking this action. The [xxx] left the Pilot at charlie's Honda for several days but charlie's said they could not reproduce the problem. Just a few of numerous defects stated below and reported to charlie's Honda but received no repairs, just excuses : the airbag says off when a 175 lb person sitting in the front passenger seat. Rear camera does not register an object. I was told it didn't work because it was 1 inch from rear side camera and it was too narrow. Nothing done. Speed said I was doing 85mph. I was doing 40 mph. Mechanic said he sees them register 100 mph. Nothing done. The tech screen goes black. Cannot shut radio off. After trying 3 times. Much more to report! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 55.
In my 2016 Honda Pilot a lot of buttons are popping up on the screen with no information about how to fix it. My car is having trouble accelerating and is hesitating when needing to accelerate. I was unable to speed up while driving to get to 45 mph because it would not speed up. All the buttons that are coming up on my car or not correct it’s showing trailer issues and I’ve never once trailed anything with my car. It seems like it’s having extra trouble when the air condition is on as well. I’m unable to figure out what is wrong with my car because all the buttons are not coming up correct when they plug it in for a diagnostic. I have had the alternator replaced and that did not change anything.
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while driving 20 mph, the vehicle shifted into park independently. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that while restarting the vehicle, the vehicle hesitated to restart for approximately 90-seconds, and then operated as intended. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where was it diagnosed, and the dealer determined that the the front camera needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacture was notified of the failure, and informed the contact that the failure was not covered under warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000.
The contact owns a 2025 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while driving 12 mph, the vehicle shifted into park independently. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that while restarting the vehicle, the vehicle hesitated to restart for 90-seconds and then the vehicle operated as intended. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where was it diagnosed and determined that the front camera needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacture was notified of the failure, and informed the contact that the failure was not covered under warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 22,000.
Since purchasing the vehicle there was a leak under the driver's side console after heavy rains. After multiple trips to the dealer they directed us to replace the windshield. We did so (under protest). The leak still existed. The dealership determined that there was a gap at the a pillar. We worry that this is related to the sturcture recall about missing welds. Honda will not admit to any issue.
The "start/stop" function has always been an issue and also the response to acceleration. Luckily the start/stop failed at the mailbox in front of our home. The car shut off just like at a light but instead of picking back up upon acceleration, it completely died. We have had it shutter and slowly pick up in an intersection before but we have learned to really over exert the acceleration to complensate. We have had the fuel pump recalled but I dont think it fixed our problem. Luckily nobody has been hurt yet, but this is my wife and eight year old daugthers car. We have had multiple warning lamps "fixed" in the past, but there are currently no indicators on the dash.
Car sound system distort and no sound after 10 minutes of driving. No bluetooth audio, radio, music working. Changing volume, sound setting, factory reset the info system but the problem still exist. Increase the a/c fan speed and driving through pumps seems make the problem start earlier. Sometimes, turn off the car and restart the car after 30 minutes, the sound system is back on, but after the 10-15 minutes the sound went off again. This problem could cause safety issue as I relied on navigation sound while driving. There seems to be the same problem that being recalled in newer model.
With the idle stop feature on (meaning the car will shut the motor off when coming to a stop, but keep electrical equipment working), my Honda Pilot, at random times, will completely lose all power when I come to a complete stop. This results in the car being unable to be operated and can lead to numerous instances of injury or even death. In order to have the car work properly again as it should, I have to recrank the car completely. Sometimes the motor turns over without issue, and other times it sounds like it struggles to supply power to crank the car. This was a known issue with Honda, with a recall in place to fix it. I completed this recall in April 2025. As of [xxx] (the same day of the most recent incident), my Honda Pilot is at hubert vester Honda in wilson, nc for them to troubleshoot the issue further. Per their maintenance department, Honda has opened up an inquiry further into this issue. My Honda Pilot is a 2024 with less than 23,000 miles on it. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Check engine light on emissions system problem and transmission system problem, there is loss power of engine light, after 2 gear transmission feel like it jerks I don't have save to drive my car, I would like to request a recall to be inspected and repair by warranty of Honda because my car is defective by manufacturer code are: p0420 (rear bank catalyst system efficiency below threshold [bank 1]) p0430 (front bank catalyst system efficiency below threshold [bank 2]) p0300-p0306 (misfire) p219a (air-fuel ratio variation of cylinder [bank 1, rear bank]) p219b (air-fuel ratio variation of cylinder [bank 2, front bank]).
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? when calling the dealer they believe it is the “Smart control unit. ” how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? my vehicle will not start most of the time…leaving me stranded when I have to go anywhere and I have to get out to take the battery terminal off and back on just to try to reset it long enough for it to try to start. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? no, from my understanding of reading other people having the same problem Honda knows it is a common issue and has not done anything about it. The dealer wants paid to do an inspection. I do not have the money they are asking for. I know inspections aren’t very expensive but most people (myself included) can’t afford even a simple inspection. Just to pay for the car takes all I have. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? at first I noticed my car alarm would go off randomly and originally thought my doors weren’t being shut all the way however after making sure all doors were in fact shut it still went off. I was at work that night and had to keep going out to turn my alarm off…the next morning I go in to start my car and leave and it had trouble starting saying “keyless start system problem” after finally getting it started I drove to the gas station to get gas and turned off the engine as I was walking away I heard cracking noises and my car making the ding noise it makes when you turn it on acc mode. When I came back to the car all the lights on the dash, radio screen, headlights, tail lights, and mirror lights (the ones that light up when a car is close) were flashing like crazy and still heard the crackling noise.
All the associated warnings are on dash, diagnosed at local Honda dealership with code u 3006-16. Advised multi camera failure and requested $1600 to repair. Immediate after I am now getting a transmission warning problem on dash.
Random misfires in engine cylinders, excessive jerking.
Auto start/stop feature turned off the engine at a stoplight. When the light turned green and the brake pedal was released, the engine did not restart. There also appeared to be some sort of electrical malfunction since the start stop button would not turn off the ignition system in an attempt to reset the vehicle. This happened on a light regulated highway with a posted speed limit of 55 mph.
The bcm body control module is not working. My wife is scared to drive thinking it can turn on lights wipers and other components. For being a farley new car it’s crazy to think it’s defected. I had no warning prior to the incident. Honda dealer says they don’t know what caused it the alarm goes off all the time so I have to have it in the driveway with the battery unplugged Honda charges me $2,100 to fix it which is absurd.
The contact owns a 2021 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while temporarily stopped at a traffic light or a stop sign, the vehicle occasionally shifted into neutral, or the vehicle shut off unintendedly. There was no warning light illuminated. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000.
No fireno injuries0 deaths0 the collision mitigation braking system problem, adaptive cruise control problem, lane keeping assist problem, road departure mitigation system problem and auto high-beam problem. All these are keep showing on my dashboard. It is stated that this is the multi point camera radar avg cost repair 2000. Oo.
2019 Honda Pilot exl all of sudden multipurpose camera doesn't work. As a result of the camera issue break system sign came on and all safety feature turn off. I didn't have any accident prior to the sign came on. Dealer is asking 1800+tax to replace the camera.
1. Rear tailgate latch will not always release when pressing the dashboard button or remote fob button. The tailgate will attempt to rise, go about 1/2 inch, stop, beep 3 times and then close again. It can only be opened after this by manually pulling on the outside handle and giving it a sharp jerk upwards. 2. While trying to investigate a metallic tapping sound in the rear of the vehicle, I looked under the rear bumper and located a wiring bundle that had lost its support from a plastic clamp. The bundle was frayed, and there were exposed and frayed wires visible showing the copper inside the insulation.
Dash instuments goes blacked out , entertainment system goes black in sequence to dash, this has happened multiple times . I cannot tell my speed, gas levels, etc, the lkas, collision warning, adaptive cruise control , auto emergncy breaking ,lane departure warning failed with lights coming on with various failure warinings, it fails ,then works randomly then fails again. I have taken my vehichle in starting in 2022 for the dash instruments and entertainment going out . The transmission has rough shifting multiple times, I have brought for diagnostic service 4 times on transmission, they cannot find the causes. I have had transmissions serviced and flushed as required.
The alarm kept going off randomly/intermittently. Honda recalled the control unit/alarm/tpms control unit on Honda ridgeline bit not on Honda Pilot.
The idle-stop feature on our 2019 Honda Pilot is faulty. The idle-stop is intended to shut off the engine, or put it into an idling state, at stop lights in order to improve fuel efficiency. However, on a recurring basis (at least once a week, often times several times per week), our Pilot will shut off at a stop light and fail to restart. This at a minimal causes the car to get stuck in traffic or create traffic issues at stoplights, and at worse (in a situation like today), it causes our car to stall out in the middle of a busy intersection which put our family at unnecessary risk.
Backup camera is distorted and has purple and green colors throughout the screen. Also the information screen routinely indicates a tuner failure, followed by popping sounds from the radio. Took vehicle to Honda dealer who advised that many 2019 Honda Pilots are coming in with same issue. However, the vehicles with the vehicles with the same first 7 charscters in the VIN were not included in the recall for some reason. This oversight by Honda, to exclude these particular Honda Pilots, places an increased safety risk for the owners, as well as an undue financial burden. In reviewing the complaints posted on this site, 2019 Honda Pilot owners have been complaining about these issues for 2-3 years without any resolution from Honda. It is clear that Honda has been aware of this issue for several years. It would be great if the NHTSA would require Honda to do the right thing by acknowledging their oversight (excluding these vehicles from the recall), and have the backup camera and tuners repaired before a serious accident/injury occurs.
Summary and description of incident: - owner was driving the vehicle in traffic when the failure occurred. - while shopping, parked the vehicle, opened drivers door, manually pressed inside door lock on driver's door, closed door. While walking away, the car began to beep. Returned to the car, unlocked the car with the remote key, opened the driver's door, closed the driver's door, and locked with the remote key button. Proceeded back to the shopping center. - returned to the car 3 hours later, entered the vehicle, put on seat belt and started car. All instrument panel lights come on and stayed on. This looked strange, so the car was shut off, and restarted. Instrument panel appeared normal and departed shopping center to return home. - while traveling with the flow of traffic in the center lane of 3 travel lanes, the vehicles engine died while at road speed (45-50 mph). Applied the brake and kept in the center lane coming to a complete stop (brake and power steering stiff as happens when motor is not running). The center lane traffic behind also slowed to a stop, remaining in the center lane. Once stopped, transmission put into park, pressed stop button to turn off, pressed again to restart vehicle, transmission put into drive and proceeded to drive, cautiously coming up to driving speed. - travelled 0. 3 mile and vehicle engine died a second time. Same scenario as before with stiff steering, stiff brakes, staying in center lane, stopping, putting in park, stop, restart, putting into drive and proceeding to drive. Traffic behind did not stop, they moved either left or right to go around. They did not appear to slow down while passing. - travelled 0. 1 mile and vehicle engine died a third time. Same scenario as both incidents before, with traffic behind not stopping and going left or right. - proceeded to drive home and made dealer appt. 2 visits. Weeks in shop, no repair completed, stated "nothing more can be done". Same response from manufacturer.
