Honda Pilot owners have reported 1,135 problems related to equipment (under the equipment category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Honda Pilot based on all problems reported for the Pilot.
1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned and is it available for inspection upon request? the air conditioning (a/c) compressor seized completely, causing the a/c compressor clutch to overheat and melt. Yes, the vehicle and the failed components are available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? a completely seized a/c compressor pulley creates a severe mechanical hazard while driving. Because the compressor is driven by the engine's serpentine belt, a locked pulley can cause the belt to melt, snap, or throw off entirely while the vehicle is in motion. If the belt fails, it results in an immediate loss of power steering assist, loss of alternator charging, and engine overheating. This creates an abrupt, catastrophic loss of vehicle control on the road, putting my family and other drivers at extreme risk. Furthermore, dealership staff dangerously misinformed us that the vehicle was "safe to drive" despite this critical failure. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center?yes. The problem was officially diagnosed and confirmed by a local authorized Honda dealership service center (8/17/26). 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? yes, the vehicle was inspected, and the failure was documented by an authorized Honda dealership representative. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? the primary symptom was a sudden failure of the air conditioning system to blow cold air (afternoon of 8/14/26).

When driving our 2023 Honda Pilot we stopped at traffic light the car shut off would not restart our front doors would open and close our back doors would not operate back tale gate door would not operate we had no4 way blinkers no lights totally dead auto. We were in middle of four lanes bumper to bumper traffic with no way to warn other drivers of our car break down. After short time a helpful driver pulled up behind us and used his auto to block us from traffic and used his 4 way flashers to warn other cars to go around us . Police and tow showed up in appx 20 min. Car was taken to williams Honda of travers city mi. 49685 they repaired car next day informed us battery shorted out when auto shut off activated at stop light. We had no indications of any issues with our vehicle it is 3 yr old with 40138 mi on it battery was out warrenty. Williams installed newagm100m batt. Our main safety issue is lack of 4 way warning or signal to other drivers. We were lucky no one rear ended us and we did not need back doors to operate . Thank you [xxx] and [xxx] from sault ste. My car no restart after auto start/stop engages I stopped at a stop sign between irving and mossic streets in scranton, and my vehicle wouldn't start again; the lights started flickering. I had to get my family out of the vehicle, and then I tried to start it using the ignition button; it finally started after several attempts.
On multiple occasions, under different driving conditions, the vehicle has experienced significant and rapid deceleration without any warning lights, diagnostic codes, or dashboard messages. The deceleration has occurred unexpectedly and creates a dangerous situation, particularly in traffic where a car or semi behind me is not anticipating the sudden decrease in speed. This requires me to fully depress the gas pedal which then creates a slingshot effect once acceleration takes hold. This situation was almost continuous on a recent long-distance drive and only stopped once I parked the car in my garage. The only “fix” for now is to drive in cruise control where speed will be maintained. Since then, I’ve only driven locally and it has happened almost daily but much more intermittent with local driving. It's happened at speeds from 12 mph-74 mph. This is not an adaptive cruise control issue and I drive with only my right foot.
Vehicle had an engine fire yesterday. Inner cv boot is burned. Luckily fire was put out quickly with a fire extinguisher.
My husband was driving our family of 6 to destin, FL from the dallas area. We were on the highway in alabama when we heard a loud pop and the sunroof had randomly exploded. There's a thin cloth like screen between the glass and the inside of the vehicle. Luckily that screen was not open, otherwise, we would've have been cut up by the glass shards coming down. We arrived at our destination in florida and took pictures of the broken sunroof. I called our insurance to file a claim. I also called american Honda and made filed a case. I was told to take it to the dealership and see if our extended warrantee would cover it. Mpp denied the claim. This is very dangerous to have a random sunroof explode out of nowhere. Someone needs to take responsibility for this before people get hurt.
-the transmission too hot message came up on my dashboard. Yes it is available for inspection upon request -we could not continue to drive to our destination -they could not find any issue when I brought it to Honda service center, they did recommend atf cooler which I had it installed -there are no other warning messages, it first appeared in 2023 going to California, it happened again in 2024. And happened again last month.

Complaint regarding franchise dealer recall non-compliance & misrepresentation (#26v-365). My vehicle is currently held at an authorized facility, [xxx], general manager Honda (downtown [xxx]), under an active manufacturer dispute (Honda corporate case #xxx). On Friday, xxx service manager [xxx] verbally stated on a voice line that the mandatory structural safety repairs for rear subframe recall 26v-365 were 'fully completed' on my vehicle, and used this claim to demand immediate asset removal under threat of a $150 daily storage fee. Less than two hours later, at 4:30 pm, an agent named [xxx] from the exact same service department called to schedule the identical 'free safety recall service. ' this represents a severe, documented misrepresentation of federal safety recall compliance records by a certified franchise dealer to pressure a consumer during an active dispute. The vehicle has never had a signed work order authorized by the primary owner for this recall. I request a formal manufacturer audit of this facility's recall tracking logs. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

In the past month 4 times I had a software, module malfunction. All lights in in the dash are on like a christmas tree. Believe is related to the pgm. When to the Honda dealer in winter haven explained what happened and show a short video and they said that because my VIN [xxx] have no recall I have to pay $89. 99 for an inspection and other charges to fix the problem. I told the service department that my battery & alternator were ok that many Honda vehicles had the same problems and that I believe is the pgm. When this happens I can’t turn the SUV off, the brakes started acting weird, can’t open the rear door and the engine accelerates. If this is not a safety hazard I don’t know what it is. I have an appointment tomorrow with the dealer but I think that pay for a manufacturer malfunction is no way of doing business information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Hondal recall s/b 26-031 subframe this vehicle is 10 years old and was purchased / driven entirely in the northeast / NY - where the vehicle is most susceptible to underlying rust and corrosion issues and potential failure of suspension components. Vehicle was delivered to authorized Honda dealer / service center for scheduled inspection and required repairs on July 17. However, Honda service could not complete and remedy this safety recall on my vehicle due to unavailability of parts. Specifically, the subrame requires repair/reinforcement, but the bolts are seized and removing them will cause damage to the control arm bushing. Dealer advised they are unable to obtain control arm parts from Honda due to back order. I was advised my vehicle is not the only one they have where unavailbility of repair parts is resulting in inability to complete the safety recall.
While running errands, the a/c compressor abruptly stopped pushing cold air. The air was pushing out cold before vehicle engine was turned off, then wouldnt cool when vehicle was turned back in. Honda dealer states need new compressor.

I was driving down the road, when suddenly my sunroof exploded. Thankfully the cloth part was shut, otherwise glass would have shattered through the car, but it was loud and scary. Insurance company has seen car, and is replacing glass, I am calling the Honda dealership to let them know what happened.
The car shut off and put itself in neutral in the middle of the road. It seemed that the automatic shutoff glitched and caused the car to shift to neutral. We had to shut it off then start it back. It didn’t start right up. We had to try a couple of times. It was very scary being stranded in the middle of the road and not knowing how to correct the problem.

Ive had about 5 times my car Honda Pilot 2021 stall at a stop light, a stop sign. The first it took a minute to go and the light was green. I was honked at and yelled at. It finally kicked on and we went, the next time it went into accessory mode at a stop sign, then into n then off…. All while in drive to start. The rest were times I was in auto start stop and it just wouldn’t start. Each 5 times it gave an error code that disappeared right after I had to try snd restart by pushing the button. I went to Honda 2 times now, first time they said they did the program… that didn’t stop the issue, I then took it again after the 4th time and they said it was a bad battery… replaced it mind you $400 later… and it did it the next day. . They won’t cover a free inspection and when I said there’s a bulletin about this they said they did id already but still doing it. I am very frustrated and j drive 3 kids under 7 this is very very unsafe especially someone who already has a brain injury from aka c I dent.
While driving roughly 15 mph, my car displayed emergency messages, brake applied automatically by the vehicle and the power steering failed. In order for me to get out of the way of traffic in an intersection, I had to veer to the opposite side of the road passing oncoming traffic. The following lights were displayed "tsa, hill start assist problem vehicle may roll upon brake release, vehicle stability assist problem reduced traction and handling, brake system problem brake system reduced, electric power steering problem steering assist not available do not drive" vehicle has had no issues and only has 6,460 miles on it. Car is currently waiting to be towed to the dealership.
This week I was leaving an event to go home and was driving on a fairly busy local road came to the stoplight. The light was red, came to a complete stop and waited for the light to turn green. When the light turned green I pressed my gas pedal and my vehicle stalled on me. It completely turned off. I had to reset my vehicle two times in order to get it started again so that I could make it to my next destination and by resetting it I had to power the vehicle off. I have a push to start vehicle so I have to power the vehicle off and then open my door, close my door then try to start my vehicle again with a push to start. That did not work so I had to do it again the same process and then my vehicle started. I had to then turn on the the button press the button to turn auto idle off. That is how my vehicle was able to drive and not stall on me again. I forgot to turn off that button on my initial trip and that's when my vehicle stalled.
On xxx, while my wife was driving our 2017 Honda Pilot elite (VIN: [xxx]) southbound on [xxx], approaching the intersection with [xxx], the vehicle experienced a complete engine stall due to the auto idle stop feature. The engine shut off at a stop but failed to automatically restart when she released the brake to proceed. All dashboard warning lights flashed, and the vehicle became inoperable in the middle of traffic, creating a significant traffic jam at a busy intersection. My wife was able to restart the vehicle manually by shifting to park and pressing the engine start/stop button. This is part of a persistent safety defect with the auto idle stop (idle stop-start) system. The vehicle has stalled multiple times in traffic and on highways since new. Honda performed TSB 23-008 (pgm-fi idle stop software update/product update campaign) on xxx at autopark Honda in cary, nc, but the issue was not resolved. I also replaced the battery in November 2024 at the dealership's recommendation, but the no-restart/stall problem continues. I normally keep the auto idle stop feature disabled for safety, but my wife forgot on this occasion. **cause:** unknown (per Honda tsbs 23-008 and 23-009, the issue relates to excessive cylinder pressure and/or low cranking torque after idle stop engages; prior fixes have not resolved it). This defect creates a dangerous situation where the vehicle can unexpectedly lose power in traffic, increasing collision risk. I have reported this to the dealership multiple times and am seeking resolution under TSB 23-009 (warranty extension). Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Vehicle flashing warning signs for multiple system functions including battery and mechanical, forcing driver to pull over, unable to put vehicle in neutral to tow. Took vehicle to Honda dealership in phoenix, az dealership unable to recreate issue. Stated it was cleared as a certified used Honda. Continued to have reoccurring issues, less than 2 months later vehicle engine completely seized. Honda refused to take responsibility for engine failure despite documented recurring issues with this make and model.
I was driving home at 4am on I-95 with my children in the car. My car has had a history of "juttering" and making a vibrational noise, but on the way home there was an issue with acceleration when using the gas pedal, and slow to gain speed. There were times when the gas pedal didn't respond to my foot depression at all, and did not accelerate. When I was almost home, many lights came on my dash including: blind spot warning, emissions systems problem, transmission problem apply parking brake when parked, stop driving when safe transmission problem see manual. The car is not driveable at this time and sitting in my driveway. I have no idea where to tow it to or what to do or how much it will cost.
Speedometer quit working. Then comes on intermittently and then quits again.
2021 Honda Pilot with 9,800 miles. Failed vsa modulator directly related to the braking system. Warning lights: vehicle stability assist, trailer stability assist, collision mitigation system, adaptive cruise control problem. Problem confirmed by pensacola Honda service center and awaiting repair assistance from american Honda as they refuse to offer goodwill credit for repair due to being out of warranty, despite extremely low mileage and excellent condition of vehicle.
The multipurpose front camera just went out and a series of many warning lights came on in my Honda Pilot. The camera just stopped working for no reason, with no warning and never an issue before. I took my Honda Pilot to the Honda dealership service department to have it checked and resolved. The dealers resolution was quoting me $2,000. 00 just for the camera, with no labor or calibration, that is extra. They told me its a glitch in the Honda's system and that's probable why the camera stopped working. They told me they are not responsible for the camera and won't replace it. They showed no concern for safety and I had to pick up the vehicle if I did not replace, at my cost, the $2000. 00 camera plus labor and calibration which may be around $3000. 00 all told. I can't believe that if this is a known problem to Honda and Honda is aware of it in their system, why aren't they responsible to replace a faulty manufacturing problem. Honda is passing their problem to consumers at a cost of $2000. 00 just for a camera. This should be unacceptable and it is outrageous the fact that Honda knows of a problem in their system that creates a safety problem and still are allowed to have the financial burden put on the consumer with no accountability. I had 2 other recalls on file and nothing was done. With the warning lights on, I am very concerned of the major safety issue. I don't believe, I as a consumer, should be responsible for the cost of a manufacturing issue. Now I have a vehicle with a safety issue and an extremely high cost resolution. I wanted to inform you because I believe that I am not the only person this has happened too and hopefully you can address this issue with Honda. Thank you.
A/c is blowing hot air. The dealership is saying I need a new a/c compressor. Car is only 2 years old. It’s not under warranty because of how far I have to drive for work everyday. I’ve seen many other people who have the same issue. They are saying $3k to fix.
This vehicle is equipped with auto engine idle stop. When stopped at a light or stop sign the engine shuts off and restarts when the accelerator is pressed. We stopped at a light and when began to move forward again, the engine did not fully restart and lunged a bit. I tried several times unsuccessfully to restart the engine. Traffic was all around us so I was lucky enough to limp it across the intersection and get into a turning lane out of the traffic flow. After a couple minutes I was able to get the engine started and continue home. I called the dealer service department immediately and was told they had never heard of such occurrence. After researching online I found many posts and comments with the same problem going back possibly 10;years. How could Honda not know about this problem when many have experienced it? I contacted american Honda and felt brushed aside. Imagine sitting at a light, not getting the car to start and a semi rolling up behind. This could be a disaster waiting to happen. Please investigate.
Summary of issue the vehicle developed an engine/emission warning light and failed mechanically without any crash or impact. The car drove fine until about one week ago. I have driven the vehicle normally and performed regular maintenance. Events and observations a warning light appeared indicating engine and emission problems. I took the vehicle to two separate mechanics: mechanic a diagnosed engine damage and catalytic converter issues. Mechanic b diagnosed engine damage and a possible fuel pump problem. I am not a mechanic and cannot independently interpret technical findings, but both inspections indicate serious engine-related failures. The vehicle has approximately 80,000 miles and was purchased for more than $20,000 less than two years ago. No collisions, impacts, or abuse occurred that could explain the failure. I believe this is a potential manufacturing defect. I contacted a Honda dealer about the problem; they stated it is not a manufacturing defect and declined to accept responsibility for repair. I believe the dealer is avoiding responsibility. Requested action I request NHTSA open an investigation (or add my report to any existing investigation) into this vehicle’s engine and related components to determine whether a safety defect or noncompliance exists. I request guidance on next steps and that this complaint be considered in any recall evaluation.
Intermittent severe shaking in steering wheel while driving at various speeds. No warning. Vehicle has less than 500 miles.
I am filing a safety complaint regarding a 2024 Honda Pilot touring with approximately 46,000 miles. The exact component or system that failed is currently unknown. My best assessment is that this may involve the electrical system, powertrain, engine control/software system, charging system, auto idle stop system, or another related vehicle control system. The vehicle is currently available for inspection upon request. The vehicle has had intermittent multiple warning lights appear on the dashboard. On June 7, 2026 around 9:00pm, while the vehicle was in drive, the vehicle shut off/lost power. This created a serious safety risk because the vehicle was being operated when the shutdown/loss-of-power event occurred. I am concerned this could happen again while driving, including at freeway speeds or while transporting a child. The problem has not yet been reproduced or confirmed by the dealer. The vehicle was taken to a Honda authorized dealership for inspection. The dealership advised that the battery tested fine and that no diagnostic trouble codes were found so far. Diagnostics are still pending, and as of this complaint, no confirmed cause, diagnosis, or repair has been provided. The vehicle has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives. American Honda motor CO. Has been contacted, and a case has been opened regarding this concern. Warning lamps/symptoms did occur before the shutdown/loss-of-power event. The vehicle had intermittent multiple warning lights on the dashboard before/around the time of the incident. The warning lights first appeared on or around June 3, 2026. The shutdown/loss-of-power event occurred on or around June 7, 2026. I am requesting that NHTSA document this safety issue involving a 2024 Honda Pilot touring shutting off/loss of power while in drive with no confirmed diagnosis or repair at this time.
My 2017 Honda Pilot touring has experienced ongoing electrical and battery-related issues for several years and has been in and out of authorized Honda dealerships numerous times. The vehicle has been serviced repeatedly at both fowler Honda in [xxx], and pensacola Honda in [xxx]. Due to the inability to diagnose the problem, the issue was escalated by pensacola Honda to american Honda’s technical line. After extensive diagnostics over two days, the technicians informed me that Honda engineers are aware of an issue but currently do not have a solution, although they are working on one. On xxx, while turning left from [xxx] onto [xxx], I had sufficient time to complete the turn and pressed the accelerator to proceed. However, the accelerator became completely unresponsive and the vehicle would not accelerate. My vehicle was left partially in the intersection while an oncoming vehicle approached. The other driver could have easily struck the driver’s side of my vehicle, creating the risk of a serious or fatal accident. Fortunately, a collision was avoided, but this incident demonstrated a significant safety hazard. In addition to this loss of acceleration, the vehicle has experienced recurring starting problems and electrical malfunctions. Pensacola Honda found that the battery tests normally when removed from the vehicle, but does not function properly when installed. Despite numerous repair attempts and escalation to american Honda, the problem remains unresolved. I believe this defect poses a serious safety risk to myself, my passengers, and others on the road due to the potential for sudden loss of acceleration while driving. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I have been frequently getting the message on my dash "keyless start system problem" this message appears when starting or stopping the vehicle and while driving. The message does not stay on the dash it eventually disappears.
Driving on freeway, at speed limit. All was clear. The sunroof spontaneously exploded. Nothing struck it, it just exploded on its own.
The paint is peeling on the pearl white color. This is a known issue and it is large sections that could cause a hazard while driving.
Automatic transmission problem. Got onto freeway as I started to pick up speed the car did not go out of first gear. I could hear it. The car would not move forward at all. It felt like it was in nuturel. I was able to pull over side of road. This happened about last week may 2026. This also happened about 6 months ago. I bought this car in 2022 hardly any miles on car. There is a defect in transmission. If I was on busy highway I would of gotten hit for sure. Transmission problem. Car not shifting to higher gear when getting onto freeway!.

I am reporting a safety-related driver visibility concern involving a 2025 Honda Pilot. I also observed substantially similar behavior on a 2026 Honda cr-v loaner vehicle and another Honda Pilot provided by koons Honda. The issue involves the front driver and passenger windows and their interaction with the outer window seals/belt moldings. During rainy, snowy, foggy, or wet conditions, lowering and then raising the windows leaves significant moisture, streaking, fog residue, or debris on the glass surface. Current image shows fog residue, however, the same results occurred with snow where visibility was impaired after cycling the front driver and passenger windows. The outer window seals do not adequately clear the windows during normal operation. This results in impaired visibility around and through the side view mirrors, especially during lane changes, merging, and monitoring adjacent lanes. The condition is repeatable and occurs during ordinary use. I documented video evidence showing: •the issue on my 2025 Honda Pilot, •another Honda Pilot, •and the same/similar issue on a separate 2026 Honda cr-v loaner vehicle from koons Honda. I presented the evidence to dealership personnel. However, the service manager refused to document that side mirror visibility was impaired, reportedly because such wording would imply a safety condition. This concern may involve: •ineffective window seal/belt molding performance, •excessive water retention on side windows, •impaired driver visibility, •and a potential safety defect affecting multiple Honda vehicles. The issue can create unsafe driving conditions because drivers may be unable to clearly observe adjacent traffic through side mirrors after operating the windows in wet conditions. Furthermore, similar reports are found online with different newer models. The date below reflects today's interaction with the dealership, however, this is an ongoing issue since we received the vehicle last year.
