The rear back-up camera in my 2019 Honda Pilot quit working. Apparently the problem is associated with the infotainment system. Many owners will not fix this issue because of the high cost of repairs, almost $5000. Not having a backup camera greatly increases the risk of accidents.

The backup camera, parking sensors, and automatic braking system failed to function properly on my 2025 Honda Pilot touring during two separate incidents, both resulting in collisions with stationary objects (trees). In both cases, the rearview camera displayed only the ground, and the audible alerts and automatic braking system did not activate, despite all safety features being enabled and set to maximum sensitivity. I specifically purchased this vehicle for its advertised safety systems, which did not engage or warn me in either instance. This malfunction put my safety and the safety of others at risk, especially in residential or pedestrian areas. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer or a dealership, but the damage is available for inspection upon request. There were no warning lights or error messages prior to or during the failures.
When the auto idle feature is on, the car will often completely turn off when at a red light or in stop & go traffic. When it is time to move again, I cannot go. Cars are honking at me to move, but the car will not start. I have to put the car in park, completely turn it off, and restart it. This sometimes happens on the interstate in heavy traffic, which can be extremely dangerous. My car’s engine light had been having a warning sign “emissions system problem”. I took it to the dealer, and told them about the auto idle problem & the light, but they could not find anything wrong. A few months later, my engine failed & they said it wasn’t covered under the recent recall so I had to pay $7,000 for a new engine. Now a few months later, the auto idle problem is happening again & the emissions system problem light is back on again. The new engine is only a few months old.

Continental cross contact sport lx 245/50 r20 102h tire was faulty. It blew out while I was driving my 2022 Honda Pilot at hwy speed approx 60 mph. Nothing in the road and other cars in front of me had no unusual avoidance of debris or pot hole. The right rear tire simply loudly popped and deflated quickly. Very dangerous, lucky it was a rear tire. All 4 tires had less than 1500 miles, basically new to me. Honda installed a new rear tire at no charge. I'm now worried about the other 3 tires as this was a previous problem with continental tires in 2020.

On three occasions, my car has not started as expected. Twice I was at busy intersections at a stop, and when I started to go, the car shut off and would not allow me to restart the engine. The third time I had not been driving and was in a parking lot, trying to start the car to leave and it also would not start. When this happens, the brake locks, the steering locks, but the lights are still on around the center console. The start stop button goes black and refuses to work on all three occasions. I have had to wait and try again and try again and try again before the car will restart and allow me to drive again. Then all of the panic alerts flash on the dash and cycle over and over and over telling me to see the dealer also saying there is a brake system problem. I do have a video of these, but my video is too large to attach here. This is very dangerous being stuck in an intersection with cars all around not being able to move. I took the car into the dealer today and they wanted to tell me that my battery was having interference or corrosion. The car is only one year old. They also said that the idle start stop was draining amperage from the battery perhaps keeping it from restarting if I were making short trips or in heavy traffic. Either way, this is a huge problem and safety concern on my part. I am paying for a brand new car that I feel is unsafe. They did not share with me that there is an active investigation about this very issue. I feel they were not very transparent with me. Down below, I will attach an image of what the dealer said about the issue when I visited them today.

While stopped at a busy intersection, the “auto idle” feature turned the car off. When the foot was removed from the break, the car is supposed to turn back on and go. This time the car made a sound like metal grinding on metal, then the car automatically shifted into neutral. It would not shift back into drive. We had to put the car in park, turn it off and restart. Fortunately there was no one behind us at the light, this could have ended very differently since we were unable to move when the light changed.
Backup camera started showing a rainbow of colors.
Crackling sounds coming from the front of the car similar to the original recall in 2020 and the front digital panel is not functioning and shutting down endangering the drive by not displaying information. My recall was cleared but the malfunction seems to have returned.

We've been having a continuous issue and taken it to out escondido Honda dealership, to the service department. Our service department advisor named omar had his tech look at it awhiel ago but they couldn't come up with anything. I recently saw the 2 million vehicle recalls on including the Honda Pilot, which we have a 2021 special edition. When I put in my VIN it says that there are no recalls as of right now. However, our vehicle is exhibiting the same exact mechanical failure as described in the NHTSA recall. The auto start stop is failing to reengage when trying to start going after the stop light turns green, it completely dies out and won't restart, leaving us stopped and stranded at the stop light or wherever we are at, at that time. We've also had issues that when it does reengage the auto stop/start it sounds like it was struggling initially before it started to just not reengage at all and started leaving us stranded. Then we would have to press on the button to put it back in park and then push the start/stop button. Which wouldn't always work, then we'd have to keep pushing it and eventually started. Please assist and thank you for your time.

Transmission light came on and said: “emissions system problem. Power may be reduced. See your dealer. ” spoke to dealer who said they are unsure how this could have occurred possibly wear. The vehicle has 41k miles and I’m the only owner. Also said the cam plate is leaking oil which caused the sensors to be damaged and causes the vehicle to lose power while driving.

Our when using auto idle our car, and we press the break our car will sometimes get locked in park and we cannot switch gears. We have been stuck in traffic several times with 3 children in the back. I called Honda to open a case and escalated to a supervisor, case #15600713 and was told because the car was out of warranty. However the previous owner of this vehicle did bring it into Honda with our same complaint and they were not able to find the issue. When we went the dealership they told us this happened. So what we know is that the previous owner did come into the dealership with this existing complaint and Honda was not able to help him. We were told we must replace the entire transmission for 9k on a car this is only from 2019 with only 78,000 miles on it. No previous accidents. This is obviously a factory issue. According to lemons laws it appears we have a right to sue because of this safety concern, and the company not standing by its product when it’s clear there is a problem with the auto idle. The transmission light comes on, warns us to pull over when possible, or will just completely lock us into park. The solenoid is not responsible for this auto idle issue. We turned off the auto idle and when we manually do this every time we drive, the car does not stop and the light does not come on.
There was a small ticking/knocking noise that started the week before I took my Honda Pilot in to the dealer. I took the car in for regular service and told them about this noise. Under further inspection, I was advised by the Honda dealership that the piston connecting rod bearing had failed causing damage to the motor. I had to pay to replace the motor at my own expense. This is a safety issue as I did not really have a warning that anything was wrong with the vehicle and the engine could have seized up and caught fire while I was driving putting my family and other vehicles in harms way. It is my understanding that Honda had a partial recall on this issue in which my VIN was not covered. I was not notified that this was even an issue for the 2016 Honda Pilots and I should have been notified and and this should have been fixed before it occurred. The dealer reached out to Honda corporate to request coverage of this cost and they denied it even though this is a known issue with this motor.
Vehicle has many fault codes that will not clear. Took to dealership and the state they believe its a wheel speed sensor and vehicle is safe to drive. Flashing warnings include awd system problem, electric parking brake problem, brake system problem, brake hold system problem, electric power steering problem, antilock brake system problem, vehicle stability assist problem, hill start assist problem, trailer stability assist problem, hill descent control system problem, adaptive cruise control problem, lane keep assist problem, collision mitigation system problem, road departure mitigation system problem, low speed braking problem, auto high beam problem, parking sensor problem, antilock brake system problem, as well as drive mode change unavailable, rear hatch will not open, drivers seat will not automatically move into position once vehicle is started, vehicle will not shut off without having to hit the off button numerous times, and vehicle is not auto shutting off after the 10-15 min timeframe. Dealer states they have ordered the part and is currently on back order. Was told Honda does not provide loaner vehicles for warranty work. Seems strange that a wheel sensor could cause so many errors and shut off all safety features, brakes and drivetrain of the vehicle.
The backup camera view on the main screen in the car has turned shades of green and purple and pink, significantly obscuring visibility.
While driving the screen with the speedometer and essential information goes blank for a few seconds.
He sold me the Honda 2011 Pilot the defective transmission I bought it from the person by marketplace when 1 week ago when I took it to change the transmission oil they told me that the transmission was damaged.

Pilot has auto start/stop problems. When it stops, if the exact pedal procedure isn't followed the car will lurch forward and stall engine. After that is it difficult to restart. This situation creates a dangerous situation as the vehicle fails to pull out in traffic under power. Very poor design by Honda and should be permanently disabled for driver/occupant safety.
Vehicle stopped with no warning while waiting in traffic at a red light and it took a while to restart. Same thing happened while parked in a lot waiting. The former issue was dangerous as I was in traffic with numerous vehicles moving around me with my family in the car as I got out to check the problem under the hood. The latter issue happened while out of town which is scary and dangerous considering it was a remote area.
Backup camera displays "camera system failure. " I believe the 2019 Honda Pilots were affected but I did not receive a mail stating to do a backup camera recall.
Our stop/start feature consistently causes the car to stall instead of restarting the engine. This leaves us stranded in or at intersections while waiting for the car to respond to pressing the park and restart buttons. This regularly takes enough time we have narrowly avoided being hit multiple times from suddenly not being able to move. Because it can turn off at any time you are fully stoped we have been caught after having to make a complete stop in the middle of an intersection and then still being stalled when the light changed. Honda has experienced the problem and has only been willing to change the battery. A fully charged and new battery does temporarily reduce the number of occurrences. This has only been inspected by Honda because we have not had an actual accident yet. There are no other warning lights on the car at any point. This is a regular and known issue that they have failed to fix.
Issue : engine idle restart malfunction incident description: I was driving my Honda [model, year] when I encountered a serious safety issue related to the engine idle auto start-stop system. While stopped in traffic at a red light, the auto start-stop feature engaged and turned off the engine as expected. However, when the light turned green and I released the brake, the engine failed to restart automatically. I was stuck in the middle of moving traffic, unable to accelerate or move the vehicle. This unexpected failure caused a dangerous traffic obstruction and put me at serious risk of being rear-ended. I had to manually restart the vehicle under pressure, with vehicles approaching behind me, creating a high-stress and potentially crash-prone situation. This issue is especially concerning because this vehicle was previously subject to a Honda recall for this exact problem, and I was informed that the fix had been applied. Clearly, the issue persists and the so-called fix is not effective. This malfunction not only compromises my safety but also that of other drivers. I request immediate attention to this recurring issue and urge Honda to take responsibility by issuing a proper and permanent fix.

I was coming out of a parking lot so I was braking. My car suddenly surged even though my foot was on the brake. I pushed the brake harder and harder my car moved about 20 ft. Toward a curb before it stopped. We are contacting the dealer to have it checked. No reports where filed. There was no warning before it happened. It speed up like it was accelerating to go on the expressway.
When I took my car for tire installation at walmart on [xxx] , the technician declined to install the tires, he stated "your vehicle is unsafe to lift up for tire installation because of rust". I was on my driving it to a body shop when something snapped near the right rear tire after I hit pot holes. I felt it was unsafe to continue I decided to drive it slowly back home and parked it. I fear to drive it again to avoid causing accidents to myself and to other motorists. The car engine runs good and there are no problem lights on my car dashboard. The car interior is still good. The 'infotainment system; which in includes the navigation system and backup camera and sensors suddenly goes black. I may first get a black screen with "network communications lost" message, then it goes black or get a message that says "unfortunately, com. Honda. Tuner has stopped". It started happening after I had to replace the batter. This was the 2nd replacement battery I've had to install. I had the battery replaced in March, 2025 at my Honda dealer, and before I even got home I started getting the messages. Sometimes, the infotainment system may come back, other times, it does not come back. If I pull over, shut the car down, wait a few mintues, open the door and then close the door, it may come back when I start the car up again. I took it to the dealer - they could not figure out the problem and said that maybe replacing the tuner for 1600 would help, but they would not guarantee it. I've contact american Honda and lodged a complaint in June 2025 but so far it has not even been assigned to a manager.
When the idle stop feature is activated, the car idles at a redlight or prolonged stop as when stuck in traffic. The car engine stalls once the brake pedal is released and must be restart in order to move the vehicle. The condition is dangerous as it has happened in busy traffic. It happens approximately 1 out of every 10 times the idle stop is activated.
Crank shaft rod bearing, engine needs to be replaced due to internal damage. Honda has recalled other vins for 2018 Honda Pilot, but not mine. I am having the same problem as another recall already issued, and Honda is refusing to pay for engine replacement.
The auto idle-stop feature in my Honda Pilot prevented from starting the engine again. It is available for inspection upon request. I was at the stop light with the idle-stop feature enabled and when it was time for me to start driving again, the car would not start. The car turned off completely and a lot of the lights including the battery light turned on and a message stating to bring the key fob close to the start button came on. The battery has been changed within a year since I mentioned this problem to the dealership when I brought it in for an oil change. They determined that they had to change the battery. Clearly this did not solve the issue. When this happened today, I was driving on [xxx] which is a highway with a lot of traffic. Since I was unable to move forward, I backed up the traffic coming behind me. The problem has not been produced or confirmed by the dealer since this happened today. The component has not been inspected by the manufacturer even though I have brought it up to their attention, police, or insurance representatives. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure have appeared. This is the first time that the car has completely failed to re-start. In the past, it has struggled to start, but it makes it happen. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
When I make complete stops vehicle shuts off and it’s creating dangerous conditions while waiting to turn left or at traffic stops. It happens almost every day.
Water leaked into front floors of vehicle soaking the carpet and the fuse panels in the floor. Yes it is available. Fuse boxes had standing water building up behind them slowly dumping water into them causing shorts in electrical system which could have caused the car to catch on fire. Yes the problem has been confirmed. No the vehicle has not been inspected by anyone other than mechanic. The only signs of the problem I noticed was the carpet was soaked and couldn't understand why. The battery died randomly one night after locking the doors. No other signs were noted.

I was stopped at a red light and my engine stopped like normal but then when light turned green and I attempted to accelerate the engine never turned back on. I had to put the car in park. Shut down the vehicle and then attempted to start the car again. It took a few time before I was able to start up the vehicle. This has happened multiple times and initially I thought I may have done something but then as it became more frequent, I started paying closer attention to the stop-start of the engine and came to the realization that it is not the way I was operating but more or less an issue with the engine.
The atf warmer failed. This allowed engine coolant and transmission fluid to mix. This caused the engine and transmission to overheat. No warning messages appeared up until the transmission overheated. A warning appeared about the transmission, but not about the engine. Honda says that they do not think my VIN was impacted by this known issue. And, yet, my car has a textbook defective atf warmer with 100% overlap in symptoms with a known service bulletin issue (17-035 from April 7, 2018).
Rattling noise when using heater. Seems to happen when the car is cold and fan speed doesn't seem to change it much. Once the car is warmed up it mostly disappears.
On multiple occasions after being stopped at a red light and the engine turns off it failed to restart. After shutting the car completely off and attempting to restart after a few tries it was able to restart however this is an ongoing issue.
Emission system engine light coming on and off. When getting it scanned just comings up with a general code they said it could be tons of different things. Doesn't pin point anything.
