1 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2010 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/06/2020

The airbag warning indicator light turned on and would go on and off, but wouldn't tell me whether it is for the passenger light (which has become faulty sometimes having a false positive or false negative to whether the passenger is there), but most recently has stayed on permanently with the passenger light correctly reading off - it is unclear whether that means that there is an electrical issue or if the driver's side would not deploy. It is unclear what is wrong with the airbag overall and if the car has switched off airbag deployment. The warning light has switched off a few times seemingly indicating everything is fine, however it now stays on regardless of where driven.

2 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2006 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 11/20/2017

My passenger occupancy sensor no longer detects the presence of a passenger, so my passenger airbag is always on, when the seat is both occupied or unoccupied. Also, my brake light switch no longer works, so my brake lights do not turn on when I depress the brake pedal. Both of these issues occur incessantly.

3 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 11/10/2017

Attempted to switch lanes on the highway at 55mph. Switched lanes successfully, but could not straight the steering back straight, causing crash into concrete barrier! airbags did not deploy upon impact. Airbags deployed after bouncing back off of the concrete barrier.

4 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 11/01/2016

The airbag light switched on shortly after the warranty expired. After discussion with the dealership, they said the clock spring needed to be replaced, which costs around $300. If this is not replaced, the airbags will not deploy in the case of a collision. Based on my own research on the internet, this seems to be a common problem amongst Hyundai Elantra with recently expired warranties. Since this is a common problem, I believe this is a safety system defect and should be fixed for free under recall.

5 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2009 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/20/2016

Airbag warning light on the dash came on, was reset, and came back on constantly and reported to likely not work properly. It's expected to cost almost $2000 to replace. This began to happen only when I was driving and now is constant. Now it's essentially unsafe for anyone to sit in my front passenger seat. In addition, my tire pressure monitoring light has also come on constantly and the dealer has reportedly attempted to replace and reset and switch out the monitors in all of the tires and that indicator light has yet to be fixed. This started when the car was just turned on, stationary. I am starting to get a christmas tree looking dashboard. In addition, the door behind the driver's side has become stuck and won't open, due to reportedly allowing water in for the handle to rust. As well as about a year ago my driver's side visor just suddenly fell out of the ceiling while I was driving. This is literally the worst car I've ever owned.

6 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2014 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/04/2015

The contact owned a 2014 Hyundai Elantra. While driving at approximately 45 mph and attempting to switch lanes, a tractor trailer crashed into the front driver side of the contact's vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed and unknown injuries were reported, which required medical attention. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure mileage was unknown.

7 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2006 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

Prior to this date had issues with electrical such as back lighting of stereo and ash tray, cd player malfunctioning past few years, more recently odometer back light also does not light. Previous report of passenger side air bag lighting intermittently when nobody was sitting in seat, or if purse on seat, less than 10 lbs. Then at about 206,000 miles, my estimate driver instrument panel air bag light indicator on first some times, then shortly after on all the time. After reading numerous other complaints and seeing years prior and post my 2006 had recalls as did other similar cars and that airbags failed, I am very concerned. Hyundai seems to have excessive electrical problems reported and a spontaneous electrical fire is a main concern. I had my stop lamp switch replaced by dealership several years ago after a recall. The replacement should have been free however, I was told that it was only and advisory and not a recall and was made to pay $50 to replace the $7. 00 stop lamp switch part. I later went online and discovered that indeed it was a recall and the dealership had scammed me by charging labor to replace the switch. I believe these vehicles are a danger, especially since there may also be issues with cruise control by stop lamp, and I am not certain with several years and miles driving that the replacement part is still functioning properly. I would strongly recommend immediate recall of 2006 & a design change with ample testing to prove these imports are not cutting corners again. I was considering another, such as a Toyota, however the recalls on Toyota and deaths have made me cautious of their quality as well. If airbags are mandated by you then their repair when obviously defective should rest on the manufacturers. Owned 2 2003 lancers 2. 0l and were totaled, one rollover one front deer collision. Vehicle body safe but no airbags deployed either vehicle.

8 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2006 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 11/17/2014

No accident occurred. Airbag light stays illuminated. Dealer says it is sensor in passenger side airbag. When dealer received part it would not fit because it is a three-prong design rather than a two prong design such as was originally installed. Dealer indicates that Hyundai switched to a three-prong design in mid-2006 model year. This necessitates the purchase of a seat cushion for the car that the three prong sensor can plug into. The sensor price with labor is about $300 and the seat cushion part price is $800. I believe that there have been other complaints about this problem and that Elantras from 2007 model year forward have been recalled for this same thing. I believed that a class action suit on this problem was filed in California alleging among many other things that Hyundai had prior knowledge of this problem with the 2006 Elantra and other Hyundai models. The dealer described the problem as a possibility that the airbag would not properly deploy for a smaller person. I believe that Hyundai should cover the cost of this repair.

9 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2007 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/21/2013

My 2007 Hyundai Elantra was supposedly previously a part of Hyundai recall number 092 for brake light switch failure. According to Hyundai customer service this problem was repaired on March 09, 2010. I understand now there is a new recall out there for the same issue. I did not receive any notification of this recall that was issued in April of 2013. So I am assuming that according to Hyundai my vehicle is not a part of this recall. This will be verified with another phone call to Hyundai customer service. . My brake light switch has failed again and I am without brake lights. I find it hard to believe that something as critical and safety oriented as a switch that controls the brake light function of your vehicle could fail twice within a 6 year period. Unless both parts are defective. In fact in my past ownership of many vehicles and also of the vehicles of friends and family members I have never heard of this switch failing once let alone twice! Hyundai is telling me that since the recall was already performed on this car in 2010 (before I purchased the car) that they are not liable for this repair or recall. The campaign id# for the latest recall is 13v113000. It was issued by Hyundai-kia America technical center inc. How am I to be sure that when the car was repaired (if it was repaired properly or at all) in 2010 it was not repaired with the part from the current recall? the vehicle has yet to be repaired and I will be in contact with Hyundai customer service once again. In researching this issue I also learned of problems with the air bag warning light illuminating on the dashboard. Also with the sun visors cracking at their plastic connecting point. Causing the sun visor to fall off and the wiring to be exposed. I have also recently experienced both of these issues.

10 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 07/05/2013

When I drove the new car off the lot it began pulling to the right, but since we bought it late on a Friday afternoon I couldn't do anything until the following day. The passenger air bag light also came on (I'm referring to the light by the tachometer, not the one below the radio). Bluelink performed an inspection remotely & said to take the car to the dealership ASAP. The following day we took the car back to the dealership & they said they needed to keep the car until Monday, but we were moving to a different city therefore we would have to take the car to a dealership in our new city instead. I told the story to the service dept, left the car there at the new dealership, 2 days later I came back to get it. The air bag issue was fixed but not the pulling to the right. The alignment specialist came with me to test it, realized that it was still pulling, we went back to the dealership & switched the two front tires & went again for another test. The specialist realized that the car was now pulling to the left. We test drove the car over 8 times, they said alignment was good & only attempted to rotate the tires multiple times, car still pulled. I took the car to a different dealership, they agreed the car was pulling but wouldn't do anything because another dealership had already inspected it & I would have to pay even though the car was barely two wks old! I went back to the previous dealership, we tested it again with the service manager. They tried to convince me there was nothing wrong, when clearly the car still pulls strongly to the right. I had to escalate the problem to Hyundai USA as the dealership wouldn't do anything further. After reading the owners manual, it clearly states that the power steering should be checked if the car is in alignment, yet pulling to one side. The dealership never recommended this, nor did any testing of the steering.

11 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2006 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

My car has had engine lights go on and off for years on their own, windows that you use one switch for that make a different window go down and then sometimes they don't go up, my brakes haven't released the cruise control at times and now my passenger air bag light won't go off so I can't pass inspection. This is not something I had anything to do with and want it fixed, it's a safety issue.

12 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2006 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 12/01/2010

Probable fire hazard: problem with frequent burning out of fuses to cigarette lighter (charger), some dash lights (back light for digital radio channel indicator) either no longer work or come off and on (ash tray light), ac and fan knobs--used to have to tap on them to get them to light, acted almost like a dimmer switch, sometimes had to tap several times to get to turn on, and sometimes knob back lighting on, but dim, and had to tap to get full power to bulbs, cd player overheating and stopped working--gives error message, (had similar cd player overheating with a 2003 Mitsubishi lancer I owned in early to mid-2000s, but cd player continued to work--elantra does not work more than a few seconds before ejecting cd. ) headlights burning out too frequently (including last time, when headlight removed on passenger side, light went out on driver's side as well. ) headlight had short and would come back on when I banged on lens with fist for several months, became more and more frequent until if finally burned out. Concerned of risk of electrical fire as engine area becomes hot. Note that clear-coat on hood over each headlight area and over fuse relay box area became yellow, then brittle, peeling off in past 6 months. Purchased vehicle in July 2008 or 2009? believe it had about 63,000 miles on it then--currently 138,000 miles. Airbag light says off when 200 lb. Husband seated on passenger side on occasion recently noticed in last year.

13 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2006 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/16/2007

All bags in the car failed to open upon impact, don't buy "Hyundai"s and Hyundai said that since 2002 they knew about this problem. With Elantras and other models. But did nothing to fix them.

15 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2004 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/01/2005

The consumer stated she was having problems with her air bag light. She says that if someone is sitting in the passenger seat, the air bag light switch will say passenger air bag off, and if no one is sitting in the seat it says the same thing. This problem occurs 80 percent of the time the car is in use and has been going on since the purchase of the vehicle. The consumer has reported this to Hyundai and they stated it was the way the person was sitting in the seat. The dealer has received numerous complaints and the manufacturer tells them not to fix it.

16 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2004 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/27/2004

My 2004 Hyundai Elantra passenger airbag is not enabled even when a passenger with twice the advertised minimum required weight occupies the seat. A Hyundai bulletin tells passengesr to sit stiff like a mannequin to activate sensors to enable the bag, but that's not practical. Hyundai also offers to reprogram the sensors to require less weight, in conjunction with deactivating (permanantly shutting off) the "passenger air bag off" light. But there's no reason to believe that lowering the programmed weight will enable the bags since it already doesn't come on with 130 pounds but is supposed to come on at 56 pounds. Disabling the "passenger air bag off" light is only an effort to make occupants unaware as to if the bags are enabled or not and thereby lessen the burden for Hyundai. Owners should not expect a solution any time soon since the technology does not exist that keeps the airbags on when an adult passenger may squirm around, cross their legs, or even sit normally at times. A positive solution would be to recall the vehicles to install a keyed switch that can be toggled by the owner, and eliminate the sensors all together. At this point, any currently offered solution by Hyundai, which includes not sitting in the seat, or using another car, or sitting perfectly still, or having the "passenger air bag off" light disabled, is only designed to benefit the company and not the consumer, nor to make the bags work as advertised. 17 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2001 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 09/11/2003

While driving, the air bag light illuminated. The cause of the problem had not been identified. The consumer stated the air bag light continued to be a problem, the dealer would just reset the code without identifying the problem. The driver side window went up and down by itself, the dealer replaced the master switch, the black rubber stripping was missing from the door, the cigarette lighter was inoperative, the battery failed and was replaced abl. Pco.
