On my 2006 Hyundai Elantra GLS 4cyl engine there is a issue which I have brought up 3 times now to Hyundai & all they keep doing is resetting the computer & trans retrain reset. The issue I am having is at a steady speed off 25-30 miles hour I get a very bad bucking & jerking effect the loss of power shortly after the bucking & jerking happens that the car looses power some much so it doesn't want to move fast enough to keep up on the highway when coming off a off ramp merging into the highway traffic two times the last time was today this all happened again & I couldn't get the car to move fast enough to flow with the regular traffic that I almost got hit by a 18 wheeler truck today. This problem is making the car not safe to drive & I am afraid if I continue to drive it like Hyundai wants me to do in this condition to try to bring the check engine light on to see what the problem is I might get hit by someone & possible killed. This issue is a serious operating condition that warrants someone doing something about this problem & this is a common issue from other Hyundai Elantra owners of the same year or newer I have read online & Hyundai hasn't addressed it well enough or come up with a fix as of yet. Telling a customer to keep driving the car in this condition is not safe just some the mechanics can get a check engine light on with a code to go on. This car almost always feels like it is going to loss total engine power & just cut out on me while I am driving somewhere & I will get hit.

I own a 2003 Hyundai Elantra. While stopped at a traffic light with the brakes on the rpms increased and the car surged forward. This has happened about 4 times in the last year. I was able to stop the car by breaking again. The current mileage is approximately 97000. I had a 90000 mile check up and maintenance about 2 months ago. This has occurred once since then. If I was any closer to the car in front than 1 car length I would have hit it. I am getting it checked by the dealer this Friday.

1) poor gas mileage - not meeting epa estimates. Took to dealer 3 times. Had fuel pump replaced after car stalled on roadway and would not result. Stalling stopped but mpg is below epa estimates - dealer says everything ok. . . 2) auto transmission sputters and doesn''t downshift properly - have to manually downshift to maintain proper torque on motor. I feel like I am driving a stick shift I have to downshift so often to keep car from sputtering and maintain acceleration. Dealer say everything ok. I read that there is an acknowledge torq problem but manufacture has not issued a fix. . .

Car downshifts end engine revs. If put into reverse, forward transmission can then usually be selected. Can put foot on gas and engine/transmission will "idle/rev".

Shift lock sticks in a 2000 auto Elantra with around 99,600 miles. I lock up in park in will not get out of park out u put pencil down shift lock hole. Or hit shifter hard forwarded it doesn't always work. Have not took to get serviced yet or looked at .
The contact owns a 1999 Hyundai Elantra. The vehicle stalled while driving 15 mph. The mechanic stated that a new transmission was needed. The current mileage is 138,000 and failure mileage was 135,000.
I recently purchased a 1998 Hyundai Elantra. The problem I have is sporadic and without warning. The vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission. At any given time the vehicle will jerk to almost a complete stop as if someone has pulled the emergency brake on. This will happen at various speeds and happens whether or not the check engine light is on. I have parked the vehicle as it frightens me to drive more than 20 mph. I use my vehicle frequently for my employment and have been renting a vehicle. I believe the problem is not as uncommon as it appears to be. I have read numerous complaints on Hyundai (accent)and Elantras where the problem I am having is the same. I think this is very dangerous not only to the driver of the defective vehicle, but also to anyone who may be following close behind. I have had some close calls during the downshift, but luckily no accidents. I have read articles where the transmission has been replaced as many as four times in one year and still the problem was not fixed. As you know, trust worthy auto mechanics are a rare breed, and I can not afford to go through numerous parts replacements while they try to determine the exact cause of the failure. Any information available seems to cost at least $24. 95 to obtain and I still don't know if I am getting the information I need. I know that Hyundai is aware of the problem and don't think they should be allowed to hide the details from consumers. The last time I drove my vehicle, I arrived home in tears, shaking from holding the steering wheel so tightly in case it decided to jerk to a stop. Please help.
When the car is started cold and put into drive, foot applied to the gas, there is a period (approx 10-15 seconds) of hesitation and then the vehicle will jerk forward. This is especially dangerous when starting the car and trying to pull into traffic from a parallel parking space. I have tried to pull the car out into traffic and it hesitates for an extended period. I have almost been hit on several occassions trying to get the vehicle moving.
While driving consumer's vehicle rearended another vehicle. Upon slaming on the brakes gear automatically put itself into neutral, causing the steering to lock up. Also, the air bag did not deploy.
Recall 99v178000, while driving vehicle lost power. Dealership would not repair vehicle because the VIN was not included.
Car continues to overheat. This is the fourth time it has happened; sometime the problem can not be duplicated and I am sent on my way even though it has happen before. The cylinder heads, water pump, thermostat, sensor and many others are only a few of the things that have been replaced on this problem. The car shuts-off without warning, and drives like a desiel engine (rough), you almost have to floor it to make the car stop and the dealer says it is normal; even though I hit another car going about 5mph because the car jerked foward and smashed my hood (I hit a Ford:excrussion so he had no damage) and the transmission does not shift correctly. Sure the dealer ship tries to fix the problem but there have been times I have been out of my car for a long as 7 to 8 weeks and many times there don't even know whats wrong. I have tried to contact rick case the dearlership owner and I never reiceve a call or email.
My car started at approximately 70,000 miles, while all maintenance was taken care of, started slipping gears, then I could no longer reverse the car. I, due to lack of funds had to let it go for a while, but then got a rebuilt transmission installed. After that, 9,000 miles later, I am having the exact same problem. I just don't think it's right that any car, after just 70,000 miles should have the transmission go. Many people tell me they are "disposable" vehicles, but this is the second Hyundai I have owned, and have loved so much. I bought it because they are affordable, but don't think I will consider myself a loyal Hyundai driver ever again.

Consumer stated while driving automatic transmission didn't shift properly. The transmission would shift hard while accelerating and decelerating.
I purchase my car a 1999 Hyundai Elantra, sept 0f 1999, since the purchase of this car I've had a problem with the car not accelerating when pressing on the accelerator and the car decelerating while driving, I've contacted Hyundai numerous times over the past 4 years and have not been able to get Hyundai to fix this problem even though I've told them about the recall NHTSA campaign number 99v178000, they refuse to acknowledge that my car should have been part of this recall, even after telling Hyundai my car is experiencing all the problems mention in this recall, I informed hynudai that this problem is putting my families life at risk, and this problem is now accurring every time I drive. I done all the things Hyundai recommended which was having a diagnostic, which so far I've had 2 done, and gettting a complete tune-up, the problem is still there . After the first diagnotic I was told that the computer reset itself, so that now no problem shows, and they claim they cannot go in and check without the diagnostic showing a problem, I think this is a despective practice since the computer resetting now hides any pre-extisting problems. This situation is causing me a considerable amount of stress and fear for my family safety and I feel I am now stuck with a car that is now undrivable and that Hyundai is putting my families life at risk.
Transmission died at 74,000 miles. No reverse, slips out of first. 8jb.
Automatic transmission in 1998 Hyundai Elantra failed at 72,000 miles and had to be replaced.
Transmission died at 67000. Repeatedly had the car in for knocking sounds. Check engine lights on since I first bought the car at 14 miles. Transmission will stick in first gear. Third Hyundai I bought. All had the same problems. Will never buy another car from Hyundai again.
The vehicle intermittently shifted into neutral without warning. The consumer had to pull over and restart the vehicle in order to return to normal operation. Also, the vehicle stalled intermittently.
When car is started cold and put into reverse, foot applied to the gas, there is a period of hesitation before it goes into gear. After you reach the point to put the car into drive it once again hesitates causing a "jerking" feeling. The car has been brought in twice a month for the past 6 months and the problem is still on going. I have contacted Hyundai customer service and spoke with chris. He was no help either. He promised me over and over that the problem would be resolved and once again nothing was done. I contacted kevin at the fucillo import center (they sold me the car) he told me his service department has made several attempts to remedy the problem but they never actually fixed it. They replaced the transmission, sensors, valves and other numerous items only for the same problem to reoccur. The general manager offered to trade me into a used vehicle for. I declined. I have paid lots of money on this car why would I want more problems??? since the purchase of the car I have had nothing but problems!! the window panels have peeled numerous times. They have been replaced and still peeled. I don't believe this is due to the body shop, I think this has to do with the quality of the product. The car has been taken in to have them replaced and there were times when the body shop was never notified the car was there. Hence they were never replaced. I have told many people who have looked into to buying a Hyundai that they are not worth the time, money or aggravation. I hate my car!! never again will I deal with such rude, unqualified people again!.
Transmission needs to be completely replaced after 77,000. 00. The car hesitates or gets stuck in heavy traffic, which poses a safety hazard, especially with children in the car. The dealership were the vehicle was purchased lied to me and told me that it had a 100,000 mile power train warranty. It turned out it only had a five year 60,000. 00 mile warranty.
Consumer states that the defect stated in recall number 99 v 178 000, happen while driving causing an accident, but vehicle not included in recall due to the VIN #.
The car hesitates to go into second gear and revs really high in order to go into third gear. The car has been looked at twice from the dealer in which it was purchased and they reset a code the first time but it failed to fix the problem. The second time it wasn't able to be reset. But the mechanic finds no problems.
