I had trouble getting the vehicle to stop completely, very scary and nervous. I had the brake pads replaced and the master cylinder. The vehicle continued with the same problem, now they say it is the abs. The vehicle has just passed 100k miles. I understand that there has been mfg brake problems with this make ,model and 2013. I want Hyundai to rectify this problem before an accident happens. . Please advise ASAP. . Donna james perez 512-731-2199.

Brake peddle seems to collapse partially when I apply the brakes as if the master cylinder is failing, but it remains an issue even with a new master cylinder. I have been told it has something to do with the abs system.

After sitting for 43 hours in our driveway the 2008 Hyundai Elantra caught fire starting on the driver's side of the engine compartment and continued across and through the vehicle. It should be noted the vehicle had a smoking issue in the compartment a month previous and was taken to the Hyundai shop and a repair estimate provided that included the master cylinder and the antilock brake system. At that time when the smoke incident happened the antilock system engaged and the brake pedal went to the floor. I observed where the smoke was coming from and pointed at the abs block to the service manager. Vehicle went back into use and I ordered parts. Installed master cylinder but abs parts did not arrive before vehicle immolated itself. In the 43 hour non use gap, the vehicle did not have the remote entry fob used nor any key entry. Fire department put the cause as being an electrical fire.

I have a similar problem to one I have seen several posts on here. I have a 2005 Hyundai Elantra GLS with abs brakes and have had a chronic problem with the brakes since April 2009 at 78,867 miles. The brake pedal becomes softer and softer and eventually goes to the floor with little or no braking capability. I have had the system bled several times, three master cylinders and all four calipers changed by my local mechanic,. The brakes are ok for a while but the problem returns. I took it to Hyundai last week 6/20/11 at 83,400 miles and they said there were no problems with the hydraulic system, no leaks, but alot of air in the system. They recommended new rotors and pads on all four wheels (said the old rotors were rotted and ridged, and the pads were grooved) flush out of the brake fluid and cleaning of the caliper brackets and slider pins which were impeding pad movement. They suggested that these conditions were causing the system to draw air. I had the repairs done but the pedal still feels a bit "soft" but the car is responding to braking. I am not confident that the problem is resolved but time will tell for sure.

I purchased my 2005 hyndai Elantra gt, new in October 2005. At 12,000miles the brake pedal went to the floor while braking. The brake master cylinder was replaced. Two weeks following this repair again the brake pedal went to the floor. The abs module was replaced. In December 2009, at 68,000 miles again the brake pedal went to the floor while braking. The brake master cylinder was again replaced (at owner's expense since the car was then out of warranty). Now in March 2011 once again the brake pedal went to the floor while braking. The car is currently in the shop and is getting the fourth brake master cylinder and the third abs module on a car that only has 89,000 miles. Each time the brake system failed it was sudden and without any warning any of these incidents could have caused a major accident. My concern is that hyndai has a malfunctioning brake system in their 2005 hyndai Elantra gt that is a major safety concern.
The contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Elantra. While driving approximately 25 mph, the brakes were applied but the vehicle would not stop. The vehicle rolled to a stop and was pulled over. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that the master cylinder failed. The vehicle was then taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the master cylinder failed due to a manufacturing defect. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 67,800 and the current mileage was 68,000. The VIN was unavailable.

- on 01/05/07 the contact took the vehicle to dealer in danville, virginia because the brake pedal was getting stuck on the floor , and the dealer replaced the master cylinder. The contact stated that on 01/06/07 while driving 35-40 mph h applied the brakes, but the vehicle continued to accelerate, causing the vehicle to crash into a tree. The contact could provide pictures of the vehicle , as well as an accident report.
I purchased my Hyundai Elantra 4 door sedan, VIN kmhdn46dx5u113597, on August 31, 2005. When I took the vehicle in to the dealership for the first oil change at 3500 miles there was a brake fluid leak detected in the rear wheel cylinders. They were both replaced at that time under warranty. On February 4, 2006, I took my vehicle in for the 15000 mile check and once again there was a brake fluid leak discovered and both rear wheel cylinders were once again both replaced under warranty. If these items are defective, Hyundai should issue a recall rather than simply putting out a technical service bulletin. There are apparently two (2) such bulletins in existence: 1. 04-50-010 Nov 04 brakes - rear drum brake wheel cylinder leak inspection, and 2. . Read more...
At 2,235 miles I was experiencing a harsh 2 to 3 upshift and alot of chugging noise. A whole new transmission was installed. The at 5. 630 miles I had a leak in the brake master cylinder. Both items are being repaired under warranty but it is very inconvenient and frustrating to have a new car have these "serious" problems.
