My recent facebook post: Hyundai owners beware. Hyundai currently has 3 recalls that affect my car by production date, yet there are "no open safety recalls or service campaigns for this vehicle". The same last year when we tried to correct the defective transmission harness issue - it somehow didn't apply to our vehicle even though the part number was identical to that which was covered under the recall. Now there's a new issue - the vacuum assisted brake booster cannister failed due to rot/perforation , resulting in brake failure. Okay folks, are we seeing a pattern here? something like this: industrial money matters, you don't. Buy our crap, buy more of it, keep on buying. We follow the rules, yet we don't. We make 155,000 cars in a calendar year and you get to pay for our mistakes because government regulations are designed in the manufacturer's favor - they couldn't care less about you.

My wife was in stop and go traffic on the highway and the brakes failed to work, and she rear-ended the vehicle in front of her. We went to the Hyundai dealership nearby and they tested it for two days and could not replicate the issue. On one of their tests the engine died and the brake system failed but they had not yet hooked up the diagnostic equipment so they never captured the source of that failure. All other times the breaks and the engine worked fine. The result was that they cannot diagnose the problem.

The brakes on my Hyundai Elantra failed twice within 10 minutes. I was driving on a highway with stoplights. I had ample time to stop under normal conditions, but with the brake pedal down to the floor, the car would not stop in time for a stop light and even went all the way through the intersection before stopping. It was also not handling normally during the moments when the brakes failed. Fortunately there was not another car or pedestrian in my path. I stopped and checked to see if the floor mat had bunched up under the pedal. It had not. Thinking it might just be a fluke I proceeded to drive home very cautiously. Driving under 50 mph, and testing the brakes, they seemed to be working. When I was approaching another stop light I slowed down to maybe 35 way in advance. Then the light changed to red and again the car was extremely slow to stop. I was able to stop it just before the light but only because I was already going very slow, anticipating a possible problem. I have noticed that there was a recall for a brake problem for Elantras a little newer than mine. That was for a brake booster. Reading the first hand accounts of those failures, is very similar to what I experienced. Since only the recalled vins had the part that was manufactured by mando, and my brake booster was evidently made by another manufacturer, but my experience with the brakes was so similar to the recalled vehicle, I worry that the problem with all those cars could actually be a design flaw in the car or another part that interacts with the brake booster. My car is currently at a Hyundai dealership. They are still working on diagnosing the problem. It has been there three days. I am very worried about driving the car in the future after it is fixed.

I was driving in stop and go traffic approximately 30 - 35 miles per hour and I had to slam on the brakes of my 2014 Hyundai Elantra to avoid collision with a car that was stopped in traffic for no apparent reason approximately 8-9 car lengths in front of me and the brakes failed. The brake failure caused me have an accident as I had no other choice and no other way to stop the car except to rear end the car in front of me. That's the only way the car stopped. Instead of stopping when I put my foot on the brakes, I had no brakes at all and the car skidded over the length of 8-9 cars and only stopped when I hit the rear end of the car in front of me. When I initially put my foot on the brakes I felt a "thump" through the brake paddle and then I had no brakes. There had been rain earlier in the day, but at the time of the accident it was not raining. There was slight rear bumper to the car that I rear ended, but with the impact of the accident my car is basically totalled - front bumper and side lights were damaged and fell off of the car, my engine was pushed down, one of the motor mount bolts was totally broken off, the hood and the radiator were smashed in, valves were damaged, manifold was cracked, ac and heater damaged and I do not have any brakes as can be verified by my mechanic. For the speed that I was going in stop and go traffic I don't see how I could have had this much damage. It's unbelievable. All in all I am lucky to be alive and uninjured. I'm afraid to drive this car ever again due to brake failure.

Sept. 2nd, 2016, my 26-yr-old daughter (an experienced driver) left work, approached a "t" country road intersection at moderate speed, on a somewhat rough road, and applied brakes to slow down. Nothing happened - the car did not slow. The car drove across the intersection into a farmyard. She pulled the emergency brake, but it did not stop the car. It skidded, but she was able to steer around a wood pile and avoid trees. Car stopped when it crashed into a dirt mound. This was total brake failure. Bumper was ruined, and there is damage in engine compartment. No fire or injuries. No air bag deployment. Car was towed to dealership, who next day drove car around dealership lot and found no brake problem. Crash damage made car not road-worthy to test brakes at higher speed. Car has about 42,200 miles on it. Back in mid-summer, the dealer had repaired a problem that apparently was brake stopper recall-related (a late-August recall). We reported the failure and crash to Hyundai America.

I was parking my car in a parking lot of a store. I slowed down and applied the brakes. Somehow the brakes failed and I hit another car. The collision stopped the car. I have only had the car for 1 year and feel very unsafe.
Returned home from work and parked vehicle in driveway, got out and got groceries from passenger side. Went inside and about twenty minutes later was informed by neighbor that my car had rolled out of the driveway, across a 55 mph street, and through ditch into neighbors yard. When myself and three other people approached the vehicle we were astonished to see that the e-brake had been engaged and yet the vehicle rolled down driveway with no signs of tire dragging. It is as if the e-brake completely failed for a short period of time. There are other Hyundai's of similar build recalled for "parking break issues causing dragging while driving and possible rollaway while parked". Sadly Hyundai is not helpful because my exact car does not have a current recall going. I believe that my car has an issue that is a defect of the caliber that creates the amount of damages necessary to recall a model of vehicle. Death or serious injury could have resulted due to the malfunction of the parking brake in my car. My vehicle has incurred above $3,000 worth of structural and body damage from rolling away at no fault of my own. It is currently at a repair shop and I am pursuing a claim with Hyundai but they are not doing what is best for the safety of consumers. An inspector should be out to look at my brakes regardless of the outcome, circumstance, or fault. Instead of trying to avoid paying for my car they should be looking into if this malfunction could cause harm and property damage to other people. Vehicle sudden acceleration after pressing brakes and trying to park: as I was turning into a parking space (less than 5 mph), in front of a grocery store to park the car, the vehicle suddenly accelerated, hit a lighting pole and completely damaged the front of the car. Pressing the brakes even harder could not stop the car. The car finally came to a halt as it hit the pole (thankfully no one was injured). The air bag did not come on, my head and neck hit the brakes. Thankfully, I was not injured and no one else was either. Brake lamps failed to work on my 2006 Hyundai Elantra. Dealer technicians identified an internal failure of the brake lamp switch which they replaced at a cost of $145. I later noticed that there was a limited recall in July 2009 at NHTSA campaign #09v280000 for 2005-2007 Elantras in puerto rico, and then in April 2013, an announcement of a pending recall of model years 2007-2013. It appears that Hyundai has determined that they no longer need to take care of the 2006 model year even though it was originally identified as early as July 2009.

Brakes failed! I put the car into reverse to backup in a parking lot. I was moving slowly (2mph) and the brakes failed, going all the way to the floor. I rolled for 15 feet, pulled the emergency brake and my car stopped, slightly tapping a parked car, immediately in my rear, in the in opposite parking space. I located the owner of that car and there was only a small scratch and no damage. It was not necessary to exchange papers. The car was returned to dealership on 9/27/11 and advised of brake failure. My car has been serviced at the dealership, per factory maintenance schedule. I just received a MA state inspection sticker in August, 2011. My car passed MA state inspection at that time. My car was last serviced on 8/23/11 at 50,607 miles with new tires and rotation, oil change, state inspection sticker, cabin air filter, front wiper blades, fuel injector cleaning, the factory electrical recall for the 099 ws connector cover installed, and diagnostic charge for 'thumping noise' in front, from park to reverse, but nothing was found by technician, stating' all components in proper operating condition at this time' on my repair order. Also received the Hyundai multi-point inspection report attached to my paperwork from technician #753 - "brake inspection" was marked in green "checked ok?. This has never happened in my driving experience. I followed factory required 15k, 30k and 45k maintenance schedule now brakes have failed. Why?.
Traveling southbound on interstate 5. Accident occurred in front of me requiring sudden application of brakes (panic stop). Brakes failed completely. The consumer's son's brakes failed and lost steering control when driving down an exit ramp. Recall campaign: NHTSA item number: 10004464. Campaign 061 provides the procedures for repositioning the rear brake tubes to prevent contact with the front suspension crossmember's steering gear box mounting brackets. The vehicle hit the back of another vehicle as a result of loss of brakes and steering. Earlier in the week the consumer felt a vibration at 60 mph.
Brakes failed, and consumer's vehicle rear ended another vehicle at 35 mph. Steering failed, and air bags did not deploy. Consumer was not notified of any recalls. Recall 03v496000 was issued.
Driver received NHTSA recall 03v496000 concerning brake failure. Consumer contacted the dealer for an appointment, but mechanic told consumer that the dealer did not have the machinery to do repairs.
While driving, another vehicle stopped in front of consumer which caused him to hard brake, but had no brake pressure on the pedal, brakes failed, however they work when regular braking, only fail for hard braking.
