Vehicle keeps shutting off/ stalling. First dealer claimed it was a yaw rate sensor. Sensor was changed and did not solve issue. It was also experiencing fuel pump problems, gas would leak when filling and gas would not calculate mileage or update. Second dealer did not see a fuel pump problem. Now believes its a ecm problem. They did not want to cover it under warranty.

38 Car Stall problem of the 2015 Hyundai Elantra

Car stalls when stopping or idling if you do not keep your feet on the gas. It does not happen in the first 10 mins of warming up the car but then happens for the remaining time. I have had a tune up, throttle body serviced, crankshaft sensor replaced, and fuel pump replaced. I have been trying to get this fixed for the last 3 years and nothing has helped.

42 Car Stall problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Car stutters, rpms drop, and car stalls when it comes to a complete stop at stop sign or traffic light. This happens when driving without warning in all conditions-- hot/cold, morning/evening, etc. Following this, car will be difficult to restart and slow to accelerate; then rpms raise to 5 and car goes into gear. This has been happening since April 2017 and has been to the dealer 3 times. (4th time tomorrow).

43 Car Stall problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/17/2017

While I was driving, the car stalled. The tach reading droped to zero, and engine light was on. I tried restarting my car. I could drive slowly, but the engine light was still on, and the tach reading was still zero. This happened for a few times --- when I drove on highway, on a local street, and when I waited for a long light. If starting after a long enough rest, those symptoms might disappear temporarily.

45 Car Stall problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/14/2017

Elantra with 1. 8l engine developed an engine "ticking" noise at 60k miles that developed into a "knocking" noise shortly there after. Main rod bearing failure. Had to have engine short block replaced. Vehicle had scheduled maintenance that included oil changes more frequently than required. Engine would have destroyed itself and stalled if continued without repair. Limited search on internet showed many other similar complaints. Sounds very similar to NHTSA recall NHTSA reference #15v568000 on Hyundai sonata with 2. 0l and 2. 4l engines.

Bought this car new in 2014 for my daughter twice this year 2017 car has shook and stalled driving between 30 to 40 mph and then restarts upon turning key very very scary situation I have taken to local Hyundai dealership where I had purchased was told no codes show on cars computer nothing can be done again this happened twice both on clear nice weather days while accelerating on local street and car shook and stalled both times with most dash board lites including check engine illuminating then when restarting car all lites are gone and car drove fine looked on line seems other people have same complaint regarding the Hyundai Elantra.

47 Car Stall problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/01/2017

Engine ticking. Brought it in and they informed me I need an engine replacement. They also informed me if I do not get the engine fixed and continue to drive it, it could stall and or potentially blow up. Vehicle is under 100k miles, however I am second owner, so it is not covered under warranty. I do have all of my service records, I definitely maintained the vehicle so there is no reason to have to replace the engine on my behalf. Have not gotten it fixed yet as I do not have 8k laying around to do so. Hyundai needs to recall their 2012 Elantra engines as it is a manufacturer problem.

48 Car Stall problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 03/09/2017

The car was driving down a city street when the engine ceased while driving in front of a highway off-ramp. The car would not restart and was towed to Hyundai where they installed a new engine, claiming an oil bearing failed.

49 Car Stall problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/23/2017

Car was being driven in the highway when the car stalled. Oil flow is malfunctioning in the engine causing rod problems. According to dealership it's a known problem for this make and model. I am told that the engine rods are bad and the engine needs to be replace. I contacted the warranty company however they refused to cover the repair due to tire rotations and spark plugs purchased at the dealership and was replaced personally.

50 Car Stall problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/16/2017

After 50k miles the car started to idle rough. Changed spark plugs, air filter, etc. Still ran rough. Car now stalls out when stopped in traffic, and lately will not accelerate up to speed from a stopped position too well. Started to hear a 'clicking' noise that is synced when I press the gas. The vehicle is now stalling when I put it in reverse as well.

The failure mileage was 2,300.

52 Car Stall problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/15/2016

On numerous occasions, my car would stall out during left turns ( middle of intersections) and while accelerating on an entrance ramp. There were no warning lights prior to stalling. I took it in for service/ diagnostics. I was told it is possible for the Elantra to suck up to 1qt of oil per 1000 miles! due to the mechanics of the car, it could stall out while turning if low on oil. I was due for my regular oil change and it was completed during this service at which time they stated I was 2 qts low !! it was suggested that I come in every 2000 miles to have it checked. My concern is -without warning lights, do I have to stall in the middle of an intersection to let me know my oil is low ????.

Failure Date: 06/06/2016

And it's seem to be running rough in certain areas then it goes back to running good when I get further away from my house I had my car at dealerships 3 times and they say no codes. And the car does this when I sit still and when I push on the gas. It does it in city highway seems to be running normal. Dealers don't know what's wrong.

When the car starts it sounds like metal clinking. It does not matter if the car is cold in the morning or anytime of the day. When I start the car, it makes this sound. I had to tape the sound so the service advisor could hear the sound. The tech could not hear it. 02/08/2018 with 20749 miles on the car. We still had the problem with a sound when the car started. When the car starts it sounds like metal clinking. The dealership kept the car overnight. The next day the tech did hear the sound. They tested the alternator and it was bad. They had to replace the alternator on the car. After the dealership replaced the alternator I still had the same sound as before. The replacement of the alternator did not stop the sound. 03/20/2018 with 20802 miles on the car. We are still having the same sound when the car is started. It does not matter what time of the day the car is started, the same sound happens. It sounds like a metal clinking. I had a tape of the sound, the tech did not hear a thing. We are still having the same issue with the sound when the car starts. I am scared to start the car because the dealership can not find out what is wrong with it. I am scared it might blow up when the car starts because of this issue.

59 Car Stall problem of the 2014 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 03/30/2015

My daughter attends a university in the los angeles area. I bought her this car thinking it would keep her safe on the hectic freeways. Three times now the car has stalled on the freeway. Each time the traffic was moving very slowly with stop and go traffic. I advised her to take it to the nearest dealership and she did. They called her and asked to keep the car because they were unable to duplicate the problem so they couldn't diagnose it. She picked the car up the next day and it still wasn't diagnosed. I've seen forums on the internet where this problem seems to recur with Hyundais and is traced to the 1) maf sensor 2) fuel system; pump, injectors, filter 3) catalytic converter. If a technician has to "duplicate" the problem in order to diagnose it, it may never be fixed! now I tell my daughter to stay in the slow lane just in case. So much for "safety".

60 Car Stall problem of the 2014 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 03/17/2015

My 2014 Hyundai Elantra limited has stalled on various occasions, all have which have been while I was at a stop. However, the problem seems to be getting worse for now I have stalled on the freeway while moving in traffic. My car has currently been at the dealer running a diagnostic for two days now and they cannot find anything wrong. Doing my own research online I have found multiple other complaints about the same stalling problem with the exact same make, model, and year. All reports have all stated that Hyundai cannot find the problem. This can become a serious issue.

61 Car Stall problem of the 2014 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/01/2014

I was on a highway driving the vehicle (a 2014 Hyundai Elantra) at highway speed when it inexplicably "stalled" for lack of a better term. I quickly lost speed and could not accelerate despite the fact that I was pressing the gas pedal all the way to the floor at one point. The vehicle simply did not respond. There was plenty of gas in the vehicle, so I had not run out of gas. The vehicle appeared to have shut off in the middle of operation. This resulted in a major accident on a highway where I, along with the other occupants within the vehicle, sustained significant injuries. Notably, no airbags deployed--even though the vehicle was struck several times from different angles and sustained heavy damage, including being crushed in from the rear.

65 Car Stall problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 07/02/2012

When I first purchased the vehicle it stalled out on the freeway. Took it to Hyundai but they could not duplicate issue. I have also had thick white smoke come out of the trail pipe on multiple occasions. The smoke is so heavy that I can't see the cars behind me. The dealership also can't duplicate this when I take it in so I haven't been able to diagnose the issue. To top it off I traded in a v6 that was getting 23 mph for the Elantra so that I could save money on the combined 32 mpg. Not even close. In town is 21 mpg. Combined is normally 23 mpg. Another issue happens when I brake. If I need to brake fast and hard it sounds and feels like the car it's going to fall apart. This issue I haven't bothered to report as I am just so disappointed with all the issues. I have been a loyal Hyundai owner of different models since 1999. I have a feeling this will be my last Hyundai.

Failure Date: 10/01/2011

I have the 2012 Elantra and from the day we bought it I noticed it was hard to drive in a straight line out on the highway thought it was just me because my wife never said anything about it then I started seeing complaints from other people online I agree it is a safety issue and hyundia needs to take care of the problem. Also lately when u try to restart the car after sitting sometimes it will not start unless u press on the gas pedal its been in the dealer shop two times (busted strut and was popping in frontend) and the can not find anything wrong with it as far as the steering I know its not the tires or the alignment just had new tires installed and realigned.

69 Car Stall problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/17/2011

2011 Hyundai Elantra. Lawyer writes regarding notice of claim under the lemon law on behalf of clients the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for a routine oil change. When the consumer returned to retrieve the vehicle, the dealer informed him, they damaged the vehicle and it would not start. The problem was determined to be the ecm. Three months later, the dashboard warning lights would blink off and on randomly. As a result, there was no way for the consumer to know if the oil pressure, rpm's, tire pressure or engine temperature were within safe limits. The cruise control and miles per gallon did not work either. Also, there was no way to tell if the abs was working. The problem seemed to be the ecm once again. When the consumer retrieved the vehicle again, from a different dealer, he was informed that the wrong computer module had been installed in the vehicle. Apparently, the computer for a vehicle with an automatic transmission was installed; when the vehicle had a manual transmission. Once the consumer left the dealership, the warning lights malfunctioned again. The vehicle was returned to the dealer again.
