1 Carrier/rack problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/01/2019

2013 Hyundai Elantra no control of the car when you hit bumps or cracks in the road very hard to keep in the lane your driving in this is at all speeds on any city road or highway ten times worse on snow and wind. The car only works proper on a brand new road without wind, snow, ice, rain, cracks, or bumps and should only be sold as a race car not a public street driving car! I am scared for my life every time I have to drive this car! I have almost lost control thousands of times! hundreds of other people online have same issue with this car!.

2 Carrier/rack problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/04/2018

At speeds under 40-45mph, when turning only right, over bumpy and uneven roads (railroad tracks, manhole covers, humps in the road, seams in concrete), there is a clunking/clicking noise from the front of the car with an accompanying feeling in steering/pedals. Suspension during these situations feels very loose/unsteady. Feels like control could be lost if car is not handling properly.

3 Carrier/rack problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/04/2018

Exploding sunroof while driving on a clear, sunny, 70 degree day on a smooth interstate at 60 mph, right lane about to exit, scared me half to death. Saw absolutely nothing around me that could have hit me and not knowing what, quickly slowed to pull over on shoulder before my destined exit, where I determined on a highway of fast moving cars, that my forward piece sunroof was shattered. Had car towed as I didn't want more flying glass on hwy. Original owner for 25000 miles, garage kept and have taken care of minor recalls to date. My Elantra gt model is close to velostar, both similar with full panoramic sunroofs, which I understand has had roof recalls since. Elantras have not? dealer denied this being anything but a fluke and first examined for a rock or bullet, which was never found. I provided my insurance info. While it has since been verbally represented to me by dealer that manufacturer would do the right thing by me and waive the one month purportedly beyond 5 yr warranty and replace, car is still with dealer one week later as mechanic having difficulty with install. Glass still in track rendering it immovable I've been told, still working on it although initially suggested a one day job after part came. I have no car 1 week later, no loaner allowed from dealer no info on completion. Dealers need to be educated on this defect they seem to deny, their mechanics trained and public notified of this concern. I also don't expect to purchase a car they don't know how to later fix. I was lucky my inner slide was closed as glass pieces floated on top. The effects on my nervous system remain. The main inner part of the glass disappeared on the highway; never saw where in my rear view. Hope no one behind me suffered which I never did see. Chp was informed. Help do the right thing by the public safety and recall these explosive monsters.

4 Carrier/rack problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 12/28/2017

Frequently tire side walls bulge and cracks. Cannot see as the problem found inside and problem indicated by low tire pressure warning in dash board. Service dealer concluded tire damages from pot holes. First two damages occurred at 11557 and 13116 miles. Third and fourth time damages took place at42244 and 45634 miles. During first time failure, contacted Hyundai customer service and on their advise contacted nexen tire manufacturer. They informed tire damage might be from pot holes. Service dealer also conclude the same. On 12-30-17 contacted Hyundai corporate service and they said to contact nexen. This is a serious safety issue and need attention.

5 Carrier/rack problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 07/27/2017

My vehicle had an ongoing water leak into the rear hatch area and under into the spare tire area under the carpet/removal floor. The leak could not be traced for months and came and went. Finally from another owners help we traced it to the panoramic sunroof. The outer plastic "frame" that helps support and fit the sunroof to the car cracked on the passenger side rear. It was approximately above the rear seat headrest or just behind it under the headliner. Dropping the headliner was necessary to find the crack and leak. If the car sat on a slight incline with the rear of the car at the lowest point about . 5" of water would accumulate into the spare tire area over time. Granted the amount of water that leaked in depended on how much it rained and for how long. Also during this same time that the leak was ongoing, the sunroof would make excessive creaking and noise when driving over uneven pavement. I cant help but assume that the crack was either developing or already present while the noise was heard. The sunroof ended up being replaced under warranty.

8 Carrier/rack problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 03/25/2016

Sunroof shattering: while traveling on the highway in virginia on 3/25/16 I heard a crack, pop, and then shattering. Pieces of glass could be heard sliding over the top of the car and seen in the back window. No item was seen inside of the car to suggest an outside object breaking the glass. I dropped off the car at the Hyundai service department in white flint.

2/22/2019 car has 55,000 miles but for past year have had problems with braking on uneven surfaces [cracks, potholes] on highway, streets. When braking car feels like you are braking on full metal and bottom of car feels like it is coming apart. Another issue from the beginning of owning the car are issues with car hesitating upon lifting foot from the accelerator. My sister who owns the same car/year, has the same issue. Problems reported: suspension/acceleration.

10 Carrier/rack problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 11/04/2015

Rear of the vehicle tends to fishtail or sway at speeds above 40 mph while operating on snow covered roads, during rainy road conditions, when the vehicle travels uneven pavement such a steel bridge deck joints. I checked and there were approximately 20 simliar complaints in the first 80 complaints that I looked at. So 25% percent of the first 80 complaints that I looked at for against this car are similar in nature. These condition is very dangerous and should be addressed. I called the dealership and he declined to say there are any known issues as described. I just mounted my winter tires and was made aware of severe wear as if only 1/3 of tire is actually in contact with the road surface. If this is the case, that would explain why the car is unstable in poor weather conditions. I just had the alignment checked and it was fine. The poor design of the rear end as far as tracking goes could explain why tires are wearing out prematurely and why the vehicles fishtail. Listed below are similar complaints: NHTSA id number 10785827 10782948 10782179 10777921 10776596 10749640 10748705 10726713 10722309 10721075 10716682 10713795 10712467 10706333 10704445 10695023 10694257 10691288 10680416.

11 Carrier/rack problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/05/2015

10/2015 vehicle stalled, when putting car in park and turning engine off, interior/exterior lights flickered until car died, would not restart. Interior soaked from headliner down windshield, behind dash to floor, water marks down door windows, door panels to floor, carpet wet rollin down under dash, seats moist, interior glovebox moist. Vehicle was found to have crack in panoramic sunroof frame and was fixed under warranty, service could not duplicate stalling. 12/2015 filed a claim with manufacturer, vehicle dead or stalling continued, vehicle mildewed. 6/2016 on interstate 70mph car shut off steering locked up, then started after a period of time, engineer came 7/2016 several months after first seen made repairs attached. 4/2017 vehicle stalling again while diving, does not start immediately but will usually restart after sitting awhile. 52 plus days and currently ati service dept. Sunroof opened and closes spontaneously, power seats work sporadically, driver passenger window opens spontaneously, rear light are intermittently dim.

12 Carrier/rack problem of the 2007 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/02/2015

Sun visors have a defective part which brakes at the mount and then falls down into vision area and creates a hazard. The problem is where the sun visor is the rod that mounts into the bracket is molded in plastic that is flanges so it will stay in the bracket. The flange breaks allowing the sun visor to fall and will not hold into position. This happened to me while driving on the freeway at freeway speeds unexpectedly and causes not only a distraction but a dangerous situation that actually can temporarily block the path of view.

13 Carrier/rack problem of the 2007 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/15/2015

While city driving the driver side sun visor swivel bracket broke and will not stay in place. Worse when the visor connector broke it was sudden and blocked visibility. Now the visor will not stay in place and keeps falling into the drivers field of vision without warning . About a month later the same problem occurred on the passenger side visor. After looking at the visor housing the only true fix is to replace the entire visor. After taking it to the local dealership they agree the only fix is to replace both visors which will cost $170 each. This should be a recall as no user error caused the broken visors and unexpectedly blocks driver visibility.

14 Carrier/rack problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 07/31/2015

I was driving in a parking lot when I heard a lot pop noise. I stopped the car and noticed my entire sunroof have several cracks/shattered by was still in place. I drove home and discovered that the glass had started to cave in. I took the car to the Hyundai dealer the next week and explained what happened. The Hyundai dealer took pictures and sent them to the manufacture. They replaced my sunroof after an investigation. I got my car back a week later.

15 Carrier/rack problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/07/2015

Driving about 60 miles a hour then the highway declined an elevation. Then a shattering sound happened and notice the cracks on the sunroof . The whole sunroof was shattered. I immediately cover the sunroof.

16 Carrier/rack problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/31/2015

I arrived home around 4:00pm, Saturday Jan 31, 2015 and parked my car in the parking lot outside my condo building. I unloaded my car trunk, then closed the trunk and heard a rattling noise. I was not sure what it was at first but I knew it came from the car. I walked around the vehicle and opened the driver door to look inside. I did not see anything unusual, but when I closed the driver door I heard the rattle again on top of my car, when I looked at the roof I noticed the sunroof glass was warped upward and a hole was in the middle of the glass. When I looked closer at the sunroof the glass was shattered with a hole about 3-4 inched wide and the edges of the glass were pointing upward. It looked like the sunroof exploded from within. The rest of the sunroof was cracked and splintered being held together simply by the safety glass or I think it would have all fallen in ward.

17 Carrier/rack problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 09/03/2014

I was driving down the highway at approximately 5 pm on a partly cloudy day that was not particularly hot (~94f) for this part of the country. I had been on the road for about 4 hours when I suddenly heard a loud "boom" similar to a shotgun blast come from the roof of my car. I made my way off the interstate onto the feeder road as quickly as I could. Upon getting out of the car I found that my sunroof had seemingly exploded. About 75% of the glass was gone. Some glass fragments were laying on the sun visor (as I had the sun visor closed at the time), but most of the glass was presumably along the interstate somewhere. The glass broke into thousands of tiny glass fragments. The glass that remained was completely cracked due to the nature of the tempered glass. The pieces of glass along fracture boundary were sticking up in such a way that the glass must have broken in an outward direction. There was no damage to the sun visor. Both of these pieces of evidence along with the fact that I did not see anything just prior to the incident show that the sunroof could not have been shattered by an impact from debris. The debris would have had to have been substantially massive to cause such damage to the glass. It would have certainly damaged the sun visor as well. In addition, the glass could not have flown outward after an inward impact from debris. This incident was caused by either faulty materials used for glass or improper design that did not account for all loads that could be applied to the glass. This incident could have easily caused an accident by startling me as the driver on the interstate. Also, the residual glass could have easily caused an injury to the driver or passengers in the car if the sun visor had not been closed. This is a very dangerous issue.

18 Carrier/rack problem of the 2007 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

I was driving along at about 35 miles per hour and suddenly the passenger side sun visor broke and was left hanging by the wire that connects the vanity light. It was very distracting. I'm just glad it didn't happen in heavy traffic at freeway speed. I contacted my local dealer in mesquite, TX. But was told there was nothing they could do because the mileage was low enough. But due to the age of the vehicle it was out of warranty. I know from browsing the internet that this problem is widespread across the entire line of Hyundai vehicles. And $200 to replace the sun visor is too expensive for such a simple part that was badly designed. It is a simple rod going into the mounting bracket that breaks. The entire sun visor is in perfect condition except for this simple piece. They should have made a replacement part just for the mounting and leave the rest of the existing sun visor reusable. Because of the wide spread problem I think Hyundai should have done a recall. Thank you.

19 Carrier/rack problem of the 2014 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 03/24/2014

While driving at speeds up to 55-70 mph, I noticed when I go over potholes the entire backend fish tails. I took it to the dealer I purchased the vehicle from, they could not replicate. This happens every time I hit a pothole, uneven train tracks or uneven road conditions. Took it to another mechanic who couldn't either. Now I'm at another Hyundai dealership who also cannot replicate. I've noticed a lot of people complaining about this and now it's winter. Lots of roads are horrible in illinois and I'm afraid if I hit a pothole while there is snow on the ground that my car will spin out of control and crash. I agree with another complaintant that it will take a death before Hyundai does anything. I saw on car complaints that Hyundai is aware since the 2013 model yet has done nothing. I feel bad for giving the dealership a bad review but someone needs to notice. I do not feel safe and I went back to Hyundai because I had such great luck with my 2003 Elantra, also brand new. I can't say the same about my 2014 Elantra, they look nicer but not sure about the quality under the body. Also noticed that the tires spin on the slightest bit of wet condition, looked that up and the hankook optimos have been given horrible reviews. Might want to rethink the model and tire used, I've owned a no-name brand tire and didn't have that issue. They may not last long but at least I felt safe.

20 Carrier/rack problem of the 2009 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/24/2014

I was driving back home and approaching a stop when my srs airbag light came on, indicating malfunction of airbag. No airbags were deployed, but light would not go away. Brought it into authorized Hyundai service center, and they stated right front seat track sensors have failed. The cost for replacing this part is extremely expensive, and driving with this light on I think would be a safety hazard if I got into a car accident. I have seen other reports and complaints of other owners having similar problem. Can you please investigate. Thank you.

21 Carrier/rack problem of the 2007 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 07/22/2013

The drivers side sun visor plastic mounting bracket unexpectedly failed allowing the sun visor to fall down obscuring totally my vision of the road in front of me.

22 Carrier/rack problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/10/2013

We got in the car and as we drove down the street we noticed the rear window was broken. The entire window had cracks running through it. There were no indentations in the glass or scratches on the vehicle as one would expect if someone or something had impacted the vehicle. This was confirmed by the police department.

23 Carrier/rack problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/29/2012

The 2011 through 2013 Elantra's have this same inherent issue in which the rear of the car is not engineered to maintain a straight line or track properly over bumps and dips in the road. I have taken my 2013 Elantra limited to mccarthy blue springs Hyundai and called Hyundai customer service and requested contact by their district service manager over the past year but it has been over 2 months and no response from the district service manager (today is 8-27-2013). The service department knows this is an issue but say its the way the car is made and there's nothing they can do about it. The problem is an issue in turns and can kick the car out of line in wet, snowy or icy conditions so much that the vehicle stability assist must intervene. These are not conditions that my other car has an issue with or any car that I've owned in the past that did not have vsa. The issue is not due to the rear end of the car being light due to not having a spare tire as some have been told, this issue is purely the fault of Hyundai and may even involve the electric power steering not being properly tuned to maintain a straight line as the wheel will abruptly return to a position far left of center. I have spoken with other 2011 to 2013 Elantra owners and they have the same complaints and I have driven other cars and they exhibit the same issue. Its long overdue for a recall NHTSA.

24 Carrier/rack problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/01/2012

The paint started peeling and cracking. Honda extended the warranty to cover repairs to the hood, roof and trunk. The remainder of the car had just as much flaw in the clear coat and as a result the paint is splotchy and looks much older than it should. Honda refuses to cover this issue.
