1 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2014 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/13/2021

Troubles with the power/battery. Troubles started around 80k miles. At first the battery was a suspicion. A new battery was bought and then we were told a specific battery was needed which we obtained and put into the car. I am unsure if the battery is the issue (at this point I don't think it is). Recently, the car at about 86k miles, has had times where it does not start. For example, times where we go to the store or even left overnight, the car will not turn on. No sign of life at all. We wait a while then try it again. After a while, the car eventually turns on but there is no telling how long it will take. There have been occasions where we are driving and the dash board lights will all turn on at once then turn off. Other times we will be driving and the radio/clock screen will randomly turn off and on as if the car was turned off. At this point we are worried we will be stranded if we take this car out into the community. The car has not turned on while at home, visiting out in the community, and at work. The lights on the dash and radio face acts up while driving. No check engine light has ever came on.

2 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 11/03/2020

For the past several months I have had a reoccurring issue with my 2012 Hyundai Elantra. About 1-3 times a week, my car will not start. All lights, radio, etc. Work fine when key is turned to on/start position but car will not start. It makes one click sound and then nothing. Generally, if I keep trying it will eventually start. Sometimes it takes 10 minutes and sometimes it takes a few hours. Along with this, about once a week my car will shift gears hard. It is an automatic and otherwise shifts fine. I have had routine maintenance completed on time since I bought this car in 2016. I have brought my car to my mechanic several times in the last few months and he cannot determine the problem since the car does not do this regularly. I read online that it could be the neutral safety switch (range inhibitor) so I replaced that. The problem still exists. I contacted the Hyundai dealership from which I purchased my car and they have no answers.

3 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2014 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 11/03/2020

The sunglass holder on the ceiling repeatedly breaks and hangs down blocking the rear view mirror. Less than a year or 2 after I bought this car new, the clasp which holds the sunglass holder up broke. I've had it replaced 2 or 3 times now and it never lasts more than 6 months or a year before it starts falling again. It starts just falling when I hit a bump and then won't stay up at all. Now that my car is no longer covered by warranty, Hyundai is telling me it'll cost $420 to fix so we've kept it duct taped up so that we can see out the rear view mirror. This sometimes works in the winter, but in the florida heat, even the strongest gorilla tape melts and doesn't stay up for more than 5 minutes at a time.

4 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/14/2019

2015-key won't release from ignition, replaced under warranty. 2017-same issue, cant reproduce issue, not replaced by dealer. 2018-car won't start, battery replaced. 2019-car won't start. Dash lights come on, car clicking but won't start. Jumpstarted car. While driving after jumpstart the radio intermittently went off. Took in for repair and alternator and battery was replaced. Next day while driving, charging system light flashes on and off twice. 6 days later-car won't start after driving it 3 miles, clicking again and the engine, oil, and charging system light on. Had to walk home in the dark in a high crime city.

5 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/17/2018

Vehicle randomly does not start. When key is turned to position one lights, radio, windows, indicator lights all work as expected. When key is turned to start the engine nothing happens. The engine does not turnover or even attempt to turnover. The battery was replaced the first time this happened in April 2018. At that time I had the alternator and starter checked both were functioning properly. After repeated attempts to start the vehicle it has always started, eventually; it can take anywhere from 2 minutes to 30+ minutes for the engine to engage. When it first started occurring it happened pretty often. Prior to last Friday it had been a couple months since it took more than 30 minutes to start. I took the vehicle to another mechanic yesterday. Again starter, battery, alternator are all functioning properly. The mechanic mentioned that this model is known to have issues with the ignition and that I should contact the dealership, they may know what it is exactly. I've called two dealerships today, both say they know nothing about ignition problems in the vehicle.

8 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/15/2016

All of the issues I am having appear to be involved with the components of/electrical connections to my steering wheel. The red airbag "error" light came on (intermittently at first) about 6 months ago when the vehicle had approx 64k miles on it. Over the next few months, the horn has stopped working (another potentially large safety issue), and the buttons that control the upward volume and radio station browsing have been wavering between working sometimes and not working at all. I did some research about the airbag and horn problems, and there were many stories from other owners of Hyundai Elantras of various years with the same issues. In addition, their experiences with dealers sounded very much like mine in that they (the dealer(s)) want to charge a sum of money to first inspect the vehicle and then charge for the repair(s). Because the airbag and horn problems are potentially very dangerous, I felt the need to report these concerns. I am attaching a picture that I took with my cell phone on 8/17/16 for reference.

9 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2015 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

We have had problems with this car for years now. 2 of the issues the dealership could not even fix the problem. On 11/15/2016 with 12185 miles on the car, we had to replace the battery on the car. On 05/22/2017 with 15516 miles on the car, we had to replace (2) tires on the car because the tires were bald. On 11/03/2017 with 18268 on the car, we had to replace the other (2) tires on the car because the tires were bald. We had problem with the car stalling. The dealership could not find anything wrong with the car. On 01/18/2018 with 20747 miles on the car. We had a problem with a sound when the car starts. When the car starts it sounds like metal clinking. It does not matter if the car is cold in the morning or anytime of the day. When I start the car, it makes this sound. I had to tape the sound so the service advisor could hear the sound. The tech could not hear it. 02/08/2018 with 20749 miles on the car. We still had the problem with a sound when the car started. When the car starts it sounds like metal clinking. The dealership kept the car overnight. The next day the tech did hear the sound. They tested the alternator and it was bad. They had to replace the alternator on the car. After the dealership replaced the alternator I still had the same sound as before. The replacement of the alternator did not stop the sound. 03/20/2018 with 20802 miles on the car. We are still having the same sound when the car is started. It does not matter what time of the day the car is started, the same sound happens. It sounds like a metal clinking. I had a tape of the sound, the tech did not hear a thing. We are still having the same issue with the sound when the car starts. I am scared to start the car because the dealership can not find out what is wrong with it. I am scared it might blow up when the car starts because of this issue.

10 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/05/2015

I went out to start car and it would not start. . . I tried several times and finally held the key as far a it would go and it cranked. I took it to the Hyundai dealer and they kept it over night. They could find nothing wrong with it. Next month same thing happened only this time I could not start it. I called hyudai dealer and they towed the car and kept it for a week. The car started right back up for them and they could not find the problem. The battery is good and everything comes on like the radio and wipers but doesn't start. The only thing the tow guy did was to put the car in neutral to get it on the tow truck. When I went on line to find you all I saw several people with the same car having the same problem, my warranty gives out in a few hundred miles and I am afraid that when it doesn't start again I will not be covered. And I am afraid it will not start when I am at the beach or out of town or the store. I t is a very vulnerable place to be because I have children. Updated 09/15/lj.

11 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2014 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/08/2015

I went into my car, which is parked in the garage, and turned the key. The car didn't turn over or make any type of sound indicating the car was starting. I did have radio and lights. I called a friend to ask if it could be the battery, my car is just 10 months old and only has about 5,000 miles on it, by the time I finished the call I tried to start the car again and it turned over. This happened again the following wed. I took the car to the dealer and the "tested everything" and came to the conclusion that it was battery related. That because of the extreme cold and not using the car very much it was causing this to happen. But if it is the battery, why would the car start up a minute or two after it did not? I have never felt safe driving this car and now this problem is only making it worse.

13 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/28/2014

Several weeks ago, on a Sunday, I got into my 2012 Hyundai Elantra in the parking lot of the local kroger and tried to start the car. It refused to start or turn over. It didn't make a sound. The lights, radio, etc. Worked fine, but the car would not start after repeated attempts. I called a friend who came over and jumped me off. I thought this could be related to my battery, but for the next two weeks, I had no problems. This past Sunday, August 24, I put the key in the ignition and it gave a little hiccup, as if it wasn't going to start, but then it started anyway. I made a short trip into town, stopped at the store, came back and the car still started fine. But the next morning, Monday, Aug. 25, it would not start after repeated attempts. My neighbor gave me a jump-off - it took a couple of minutes, but finally the car started. I assumed this was definitely the battery, so I headed to autozone and got a new battery installed. Several days passed, and everything was fine. On Thursday morning, August 28, it wouldn't start again. I tried repeatedly, no luck. I called a friend, who came over to jump it off. Still wouldn't start. I called Hyundai roadside assistance and they had it towed to pride Hyundai, a dealership in batesville, miss. I got a ride to work and, later, I got a call from pride Hyundai. They said the car started just fine. They also reported that the tow truck driver said it started for him as well. I explained the situation and they said they'd look at it. Hours later, I called them back (since it was clear they had forgotten to call me) and they said they'd hooked it up to the computer and found no problems. I asked them to keep it overnight and try it again the next morning. The lady on the phone went out to the lot and came back - she said it started fine for her and again she insisted they could find nothing wrong with my car.

14 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/13/2014

Unable to move the car out of park. The electrical worked (radio, windows). I insert the key and turn but the car wont turn over (start). I have to use the shift lock release to start the car. The problem occurs intermittently and there is no pattern.

15 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/05/2014

After sitting overnight, vehicle failed to start following morning. Although all components requiring power (windows, headlights, radio, interior lights, etc. ) seemed to be functioning ok, jump started vehicle, and it started immediately. A few days later problem reoccurred; let vehicle sit for some time, and vehicle then started immediately (no jump start). Today problem occurred yet again (waiting to see if vehicle will eventually start). A quick review of online forums indicates a possible issue with the shift interlock, or perhaps a faulty rain sensor. As an aside, a longer-term sporadic, presumably electrical, issue also exists with the passenger side front window. The window will go down without issue, but it often takes multiple attempts from either the passenger side or driver's side window control to get the window back up.

16 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/26/2014

Car will not start. Have battery, alternator, and started all tested and are good. Every so often go to start the car and when you turn the key to first position everything turns on. Windows work, radio works, light on dash turn on. Go to start the car and it does nothing. Does not even try to start the starter makes no noise. You just here a clicking noise. Was told be dealer that it might be inhibitor switch (range switch), that was replaced and a week later it again will not try to start. If you let it sit and come back a day later many time it will crank right over. There are many forums online with the same issue from this model.

17 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

Within the first year of owning my 2012 Elantra, I started having an issue with the car not starting. Dash would light up normally, and radio, etc worked fine, however the engine would not try to turn over at all or make any noise whatsoever. The problem is that the car is not sensing that the car is in park. The dash will normally display p (for park), however in these instances the dash is blank where the transmission position should be displayed. The shifter is also stuck in park so I can not move to any other gear. In order to resolve this issue, I have to use the shift overide and move the car out of park and then back into park. The dash will then display the p, and I can start the car normally. I have taken to the dealer on two occasions, and their computer diagnostics don't detect any problems. They said if they can't repeat the problem then they won't change out any components. This is frustrating because there is no way I can get it to the dealer when the problem is occurring.

18 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/15/2013

My 2012 Elantra has failed to start 3 times while it was in park and 2 times while I was on the freeway in a period of 12 months. There was no warning while I was on the freeway. All dashboard lights were on, radio was on and it was until I tried to accelerate when I realized that the car had turned off on me. Luckily, it was in heavy traffic going about 15 miles per hour, nonetheless, it was a pretty nerve wrecking unsafe experience. I was able to turn the car back on after 3-4 attempts. My biggest fear is that the car can potentially turn off on me when I'm going 60+ mph. I drive my kids everywhere in this car and I fear for the safety of my family. I have taken it to the dealer after every incident and their main response is that they cannot duplicate the problem, therefore, they can't fix it. At one point, they claimed that it could be due to carbon build up in the engine so I paid ~$300 for that service which did not help because the car turned off on the freeway several months later. I have even had the hyuandai tow truck from roadside assistance tow my car from my work parking lot to the dealer in hopes that it was proof that the car did not turn on. Tow truck driver confirmed the car did not turn on, then prepped car to place on tow truck bed. He got the car to dealer, then attempted to turn on the car and it did. I tried to get documentation from him but he declined. All I got was a letter that stated that the car was taken from my work parking lot to the dealer with zero details. The dealer is being iresponsible and does not stand behind their product. This is a huge safety issue. I am in the process of pursuing the lemon law and going to bbb for arbitration in hopes that they take the car back. I feel like I don't have an alternative. I cannot, with a clear conscious, sell this car to a dealer or a private party knowing that it is defective.

19 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

The first time this happened I had my car for about two weeks. I was driving my 2013 Hyundai Elantra on a rough road and the rear end felt like it was fish tailing. It was a very scary experience. I was driving approx 30-35mph. This happens every time I drive on an uneven surface. I have to hold the steering wheel as tight as possible with both hands and the car still feels uncontrollable. I have taken it to the dealer but they drove it and said that there is nothing wrong with the car. It is so scary that this company will let people drive a car around that is this dangerous. I have three children and it scares me to drive the car with them in it. I have also had problems inter-mentally with the car failing to start. The dash lights come on, the radio and a/c all come on but the engine will not turn over. After several attempts it finally starts. I took the car into the dealer and they said that the car had no problems starting for them. I have had this car for a little over a year now and the problems continue. I bought this car based on the reputation of Hyundai. What a mistake!.

20 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2007 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 12/12/2012

I was driving down the freeway and my driver's side sun visor flopped down. As it was attached by wires to light the mirror, it dangled in the way. So, with one hand I kept it out of my way so I could continue to drive and pull over to safety. The visor broke from within the ball joint that lets it rotate down and to the side. Nothing I could do would hold it in place, duct tape, velcro, etc. . . , so I had to cut the wires and remove the visor so I could drive. The same exact thing happened two weeks later to my passenger side visor. I had to remove it too. Now to get one visor replaced it would cost me $150. 00 of which I could not, and have not been able to afford since it happened. I am driving around in a car that does not have sun visors in southern California where the sun shines long and hard.

21 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2007 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 07/07/2010

My 2007 Hyundai Elantra now has two broken sun-visors. They no longer reliably stay in the upright position, and tend to fall down at random times, and block my view of the road, creating a safety hazard. I have had to glue and tape them for now, as Hyundai motors refuses to address this matter. On searching the internet, I located hundreds, if not thousands of similar reportings. Seems there is an inherit design flaw, allowing the cheap plastic to break, as it is under tension at all times. Hyundai has apparently recently redesigned this part. The local dealership let me know that corporate must approve any free replacement, and corporate sent me an email telling me to visit my dealer, and thus the two entities refuse to take action. A replacement visor costs about 160 dollars plus installation, not inexpensive by any means, and I need two. I even offered to replace them on my own, if they give me the redesigned parts. They blew me off, and said they stand by their earlier response. And so Hyundai has decided not to recall and replace this defective part, and thus help prevent a serious accident when the driver is unable to see the road on the sudden dropping of the sun-visor. My warning should be taken seriously, this is a safety issue, so be wary. And keep in mind, Hyundai apparently feels this matter is not covered in anyway, thus forcing the consumer to purchase a replacement part after the fact. I would like to see you get involved and force Hyundai motors to make the needed repair at no charge to us owners. Thank you.
