The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated the while driving at various unknown speeds, when slowing down the vehicle consistently stalls. The contact stated that that there was knocking noise coming from the engine compartment that is persistent. Additionally, the check engine safety light was illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was diagnosed as the catalytic converter sensor needing to be replaced. The contact was notified of NHTSA campaign number: 17v769000 (service breaks, hydraulic). The vehicle was repaired however the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage 145,000.

2 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/31/2012

2002 Hyundai Elantra. Consumer writes in regards to recall notice concerning front steering or control mechanisms, rust and potential failures the consumer stated on March 10, 2010, she went to the dealer after receiving a recall notice. Upon inspection, it was determined the parts did not need to be replaced. On January 31, 2012, the same parts that were the subject of the recall failed. The consumer stated when the steering failed, the vehicle was violently forced into oncoming traffic which nearly resulted in a head-on collision and was then violently forced back across the lane in which she had been traveling, narrowly missing another vehicle. The vehicle had to be towed as it could not be driven. The consumer had other problems such as the engine light illuminating, due to an internal failure of the catalytic converter and a broken rear spring, as well as weak struts.

3 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 1999 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/05/2001

In-shop for transmission 3 times (on 3rd trans); paint peeling on bumper (dealer refusted to paint);clear coat cracked and bubbled on spoiler & side mirror (dealer repainted); noticed a/c didn't work right after purchase; check engine light on (reason for replacing engine coil, etc. And converter); interior driver's door handle broke; dealer always fights getting us a loaner/rental car (but we have to have one since its our only car now!); always in shop an extensive amount of time except when they are paying for us a rental; manufacturer contacted by phone in may 2001, but offered no help.

4 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 1997 Hyundai Elantra
