36 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2015 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/17/2019

My engine began making a clicking noise in January 2019. I didn't think much of it. Then the check engine light, the oil pressure light and the battery light all would start flashing when I was driving and my engine would die. I took it to my car dealership, who said they couldn't tell me what was wrong with it, but that it was covered under my warranty so they are replacing it. I have looked online and noticed many other people with the same problem. I don't know much about cars but I do know that an engine totally dying at 58,000 is not good. They did mention that they would check the oil for metal shavings. I looked that up online, which happens when an engine is poorly made and the motors are scraping against each other, producing metal shavings, which then go through the entire engine through the oil. Every time the engine died I was driving on a side street, going about 30 mph.

I have a 2012 Elantra, I am 2nd owner of the car, it just turned 67,000 miles and began making a loud ticking noise coming from the engine, I took it to my mechanic who did an oil change and discovered that there were pieces of metal in the oil pan and suggested I take it to Hyundai dealership. Upon inspection at dealership they stated I need a new engine. The car is no longer in warranty so they dealer sent the information into Hyundai corporate, outcome is no free engine I have to pay 3,000 out of pocket to have a new engine installed. In researching the problem online I am not alone in my pain! shame on Hyundai your car should be placed in the least wanted list! I wouldn't purchase another Hyundai if it cost one cent! Hyundai is well aware of the issues with the engines and yet fails to acknowledge the right thing to do for its customers. Beware do no purchase a Hyundai anything! I would not trust any of it's vehicles this is a huge safety issue for any one that owns one - do you homework check out the facts. Fortunately for me I didn't encounter a major accident while driving this car. I am now the owner of a very expensive car that is worth about the cost of the engine!.

My 2011 Hyundai Elantra has this ticking sound coming from the engine for over 12months. I has constantly called even had the car towed 4 to 5 times to the same dealership for the same thing that the Hyundai motor want and wouldn't declared the car a lemon. The car constantly would not start or when it did start while driving it would slow down and then shut completely off where I would have to restart the vehicle back up. The car is always keeped in a close garage and regardless to the weather it continue to make this loud razzing noise in the engine. Service manager chad repeatedly told me that there was nothing wrong and that it was because of the weather. Now the dealership wants me to pay 7000 dollars for a new engine.

44 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/10/2019

I am the 2nd owner of the vehicle. This vehicle started the infamous 'ticking or knocking' sound in January this year when it was very cold. At first I thought it would go away after the engine warms up but it continued to get worse with time. The ticking sound became very loud and annoying. I took it to couple of reliable mechanics to take a look and get an idea of what's wrong with the engine. They both told me separately that one of the pistons is not working properly and in order to fix this issue I have to have my engine replaced. I was also told that this is a 'known issue' with Elantras 2012-16. Anyways I took it to Hyundai dealership here in chantilly, virginia. They looked at it and finally told me that it is out of warranty and it will cost me $8000 to put a new engine and about $4000 or so to replace with used engine. This is shocking given that Hyundai is well aware of the faulty engine design and lots of people have already complained about the ticking problem yet there is no recall !!!.

61 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/02/2018

When I was driving my 2013 Hyundai Elantra in January of 2018 a very distinctive clicking noise started to come from the engine, without any cause. After taking my vehicle to multiple mechanics, the problem was diagnosed as a faulty engine that could not be repaired. I have never had an engine fail on me before and I know that in some cases it can be very dangerous. I was fortunate enough to get my engine replaced without having the engine fail, although it sounded, and drove, like it was almost there. This problem got so bad that it wouldn't allow me to even drive on hills anymore because the engine couldn't withstand it. I only had this car for not even 3 yrs and this occurred. I got the car at 39,400 miles and I only put 25,00 on it from driving it so their is no way this should have occurred. I paid 1900 to replace the engine and was not happy at all.

62 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/01/2018

I purchased the car used, when it had 35,000 miles on it. Around 38,000 miles, I started to experience an engine ticking noise and vibration before coming to a stop or when starting up after a stop. It feels like the car will stall, but it never actually stalls. I have taken the car to several mechanics and the head mechanic at a Hyundai dealer. The Hyundai mechanic said the issue is "common" with Hyundai Elantras. He listed off various fixes he has tried, but said he can't figure out a common cause. When I researched the issue online, it appears that many other Hyundai Elantra owners have the same problem (e. G. Carcomplaints. Com). It seems that there are many Hyundai Elantra owners waiting on engine replacements, with Hyundai often not wanting to pay for the engine. I wonder if a recall is needed.

63 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/24/2018

1. Engine noise (knocking sound, ticking sound) 2. Air conditioning system failed too early and replaced it around 45,000 miles. 3. 64 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 03/29/2018

I am the second owner of the 2012 Elantra with 85200 miles. I have had it for 1 1/2 years and now my son owns it (as of Aug 2017, making him the third owner. He lives with me). The oil has been changed as required. The ticking sound the engine made since we got the car has been steadily increasing in sound, and of recent, it is the worst it has been. I sell cars full time (our dealership owns 2 Hyundai stores), and I also own another 2013 Elantra that I drive presently. Our service dept took apart the engine (on the 2012) to find metal shavings which led to the diagnosis that I need a new engine. My son is 2000 miles out of his extended warranty, and Hyundai, nor the warranty company is eager to fix it. I was told by our service dept that in the last month and a half, 5 Elantras came in with the same problem needing new engines and Hyundai wouldn't replace. Hyundai states they are not going to do a recall, even though this is becoming a bigger and bigger universal problem with Elantra owners. The ticking is loudest when running cold, and/or in cold weather. (car is in ohio). Metal shavings from the engine found in the oil is not a 'normal' issue. I am seeking recourse with Hyundai to fix/replace my engine. The date stated on this form as to "when did this happen" is when I took it to my dealership at work to have it looked at. The ticking has been ongoing since I purchased the vehicle, but never as loud as it has become. My son has had the car at college, but I keep track of it needing oil changes and have documentation.

65 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 03/16/2018

It took at least two weeks for all the parts for the new engine to arrive,. Four months later 6/5/18 vehicle motion driving around with a cracked transmission and no check lights came on to reveal there was problems. 66 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 03/06/2018

All oil changes for this car has been done at a dealership since my stepfather bought this car. Upon his death, the car had 111,000 miles when the title was transferred to me. Cold weather was approaching and I wanted to get an oil change done. The dealership could not get me in for a week and even cancelled an appointment I had to I went to exhaust pro. When the temperature got to 20 below zero wind chill the engine started ticking. I took the car to dealership and had them change oil but the ticking persisted. I took the car to dealership to inquire about ticking noise and was informed there are metal shavings in oil and engine needs replaced costing $9400. This is a known problem with the 2012 and 2013 Elantra but no recall has been done like the sonata. I feel that Hyundai should replace the engine at no cost to me. It may not be under warranty anymore but Hyundai knows there is a problem and they should be held accountable and not the consumer.

67 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 03/06/2018

We are the original owner of our 2013 hyundia Elantra. Our car developed a ticking noise around 110,000 miles. We let the car sit for two months while we waited for money to get a diagnostic. The 14 of July 2017 we brought it into the dealer to research the knocking noise and it was returned to us saying there was not a problem. When our mechanic told us we needed a new engine we were confused. On March 6th 2018 after being told there was no problem the noise has gotten louder. When serviced again at the same dealer for recalls again was told there was no problem with the knocking. So we stopped driving the car till we figured out the problem, researching over the internet our cars engine was built at the alabama plant and now have found out the metal shavings has destroyed the engine. There is a recall for NHTSA 15v 568000 and numerous reports on the internet for the Elantras 1. 8 for the noise problem. We are confused why the dealership would tell us there is no problem when there is a huge problem in safety for my son driving the car, which we have not done so, and now the car sits in our driveway for fear that the engine will stall and we will get in an accident. What is hyundia motor company doing about this and have you heard about another recall for the 2013 Elantra 1. 8 engine series out of the alabama plant? please help and can you provide us with a complaint number.

One morning I started my car like any normal day and there was a ticking sound. It was cold out that morning so I didn't think much of it but I took it to get its oil changed the next day and thats they told me that it was something internal and I should take it to a dealer. I took it to a dealer and they told me that there was an engine knock and that the only way to fix it was to basically get a new engine.

69 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2015 Hyundai Elantra

My 2015 Elantra started to make a ticking noise while parked and while accelerating at 50,000 miles. There was no noticeable change in driving performance and no dashboard lights turned on. Within a week I brought it to a Hyundai dealer for an oil change and to diagnose the noise. I was told the oil had metal shavings in it and the engine needed to be replaced. I have had regular maintenance and oil changes prior to this.

70 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/03/2018

I purchased a 2013 Hyundai Elantra as a new vehicle back in November of 2013. I recently decided to upgrade my vehicle to a SUV. After purchasing the new vehicle, my intention was to sell my old vehicle (the Elantra) to my fiance. Prior to completing the title transfer, I received a recall notice on the Elantra and brought it in to to have the recall work done on 2/3/18 (there were 96,631 miles on the car at this service). When I brought the vehicle in for the recall work, the car was making a slight ticking sound from the engine compartment. The dealership proceeded to complete the recall repair, and also inspected the vehicle. They informed me that I had some bulbs out and that I would need new tires soon. They failed to address the ticking noise from the engine. We proceeded with the title transfer on 2/7/18. My fiance decided to go ahead and bring the vehicle back in to walser Hyundai on 2/12/18 to have the ticking noise addressed. We were then informed that the car is in need of major engine repair and the cost of the repair would be $5,900. I inquired about the powertrain warranty which would cover such repairs up to 100,000 miles and was told that because we transferred the title that they would not honor the warranty. We would not have proceeded with the title transfer until the issue was resolved. I have reason to believe that the dealership neglected to address the noise because they knew what the issue was (this is a common issue with this year and model vehicle), saw the car was almost past the 100k mile limit for the warranty figured that by the time we brought it back in, the car would be over the mileage limit for the warranty. I did file a complaint/case with Hyundai and they again told me that they will not cover any of the cost of the repair.
