2 Engine Noise problem of the 2015 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/16/2021

I have a 2015 Elantra that developed an engine noise at 135,000 miles. As I was driving on the highway, at a speed of 65, the engine became extremely loud. I pulled over to check my vehicle. I pulled out the dipstick and it had metal shavings in the oil. The car lost all ability to move. The gas pedal did not work and the vehicle would rev on its own. I had it towed to a hyaundai dealership. They said the vehicle only had 1 quart of oil. The issue with that, is my low oil light never came on in the vehicle. The dealership ran the codes, and it showed nothing on the scanner.

6 Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/10/2019

We brought our vehicle in, under warranty, for engine noises and stalling. We were told the previous owner could have neglected maintenance and we should do more frequent oil changes to solve the issue(oil sludge). This went on for months and the issue only got worse. By the time the issue was diagnosed(pistons), we were out of warranty and noone would help us. We later found out they covered some bearing issues, but not piston issues. We did everything recommended. They refuse to give me documents, I have asked many times for them(mcgrath Hyundai of cedar rapids). This was 2 years ago. We entered a class action suit thinking we would get the help we deserved. We aren't getting help from the settlement and they are now saying we were out of warranty upon purchase of the vehicle. If we had the money to replace we would be getting full reimbursement, but we get nothing since we were financially unable. The people that did get the replacement engine are still having issues. I would like this engine to be recalled because I feel it is unsafe and not the driver/purchasers fault.

7 Engine Noise problem of the 2014 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/05/2018

2014 Elantra gt manual 6 speed, purchased 8/6/18 with 31,636 miles from a non Hyundai dealer in massachusetts. I live in upstate NY. The car came with a 90 day or 3,750 mile dealer warranty, and is still under the factory warranty up to 60,000 miles. I'm the 2nd owner. At approx 34,500 miles, on 10/5/18, while accelerating uphill, the engine began to make a sharp and loud rapping and squealing noise and lost power. I was in heavy traffic on a country road with no where to stop, but I managed to pull over after coasting downhill for approximately one mile. I checked the engine oil immediately and there was no oil showing on the dipstick. I called my wife to come and pick me up and asked her to bring 3 quarts of sae 5-20 oil as indicated on the fill cap. It took 2 quarts of added oil for any oil to show on the dipstick, indicating that there had been significant and excessive oil consumption in the 2 months from my date of purchase, at which time the dipstick indicated that the oil was at the full level. The car had an oil change prior to my purchase per the salesman at the dealership where I bought the car. There were no warning lights on prior to the engine failure, and non came on afterward. The car is at a local Hyundai dealer being diagnosed. The Hyundai dealer provided me with a loaner car "for the duration", that they told me was included as part of the factory warranty and would be free of charge. I suspect a crankshaft bearing, con rod bearing and/or wrist pin failure, and seized piston(s) due to oil starvation.

8 Engine Noise problem of the 2018 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 09/26/2018

Engine noise became very loud over several days; took to dealership which told me a weld in the exhaust piping system had failed and that the exhaust pipe had broken open. They said it was not safe to drive because of potential for exhaust coming into cabin, ordered the part and gave me a loaner, on 10/2, saying the earliest I could reasonably expect to have my car back would be 10/18.

9 Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/06/2018

While driving home from work the check engine light turned on. I drive eight miles with it on. It didn't make any sound or anything that concerned me, aside from the light. Parked it at home and went to get a code reader. Tried to start it and it wouldn't start. Had to flat bed it to a repair shop and they said the engine needed replaced. I only have 114k miles. Kept up on maintenance. Had it in a month prior for brakes and it was looked inner with no problems. Hyundai will do nothing because it is over warranty. Prior to all of this I had problems with it within the first six months of owning it. Have had the power steering rack replaced , master cylinder, slave cylinder twice, along with multiple other issues including sporadically pulling hard to the left for no apparent reason, before it was even at 16k.

10 Engine Noise problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/06/2018

My car has making noise for a while. Emailed Hyundai and was told it is not under warranty and no recall for engine. Several complaints ha e been made online for this car regarding the engine which needs to be replaced. I'm afraid to drive it's my only car and I can't afford to pay $5000 for a new engine. I was stuck in the middle of a busy intersection when the car stalled and sounded like it was going to grind the engine up.

11 Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Making a noise.

12 Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/09/2017

My 2013 Elantra (appx. 54k miles) began making noises when turning while driving and when stalling. Twice the vehicle lost acceleration and shut off while driving on local streets. I took the vehicle to the dealer service department in February 2017 and they indicated there was no oil in the car and the engine needed to be replaced. It had been less than 5k miles since the last oil change. The repairs and rental are both covered under warranty. After replacing the engine and a few other parts, I was told my vehicle was ready for pickup in March 2017. I got in the car and noticed a noise. The advisor and tech said its because of a new pump and will go away after driving a few miles. Immediately after driving off and entering the highway I heard a dragging noise and the engine light came on. I turned around and went back to the service department. They kept the vehicle and placed me in another rental. It is now may 2017 and the car is still in the service department. The engine has been replace twice and other parts have been replace multiple times as well. I was told by the service manager that Hyundai has sent out an engineer to look at the vehicle. At this point it appears they do not know the problem and/or cannot fix the problem. I am no longer confident in the safety of my car and Hyundai vehicles over all.

13 Engine Noise problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 12/28/2016

While driving the car it suddenly stalled rendering the brakes and steering useless. Managed to coast to the side of the road and stop. Placed the car in park and attempted to restart the car. Most if not all of the dashboard lights came on but no engine sounds. Also the car was now stuck in park. A tow service was called and the car was towed to the dealer where it has sat since December 28,2016 because they are unable to diagnose the problem.

14 Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/07/2016

Engine failure. Zero compression cylinder #1. Second time this has happened since purchase on 10/18/2016. Also, tire pressure problem, esc light comes on, dashboard gauges inoperative. Fuel mileage below what is advertised. Neither hundai nor enterprise will fix the problem after repeated demands. Also, there is a recall regarding "stopper pad" and stop lamp switch. Bought vehicle, cash, from enterprise car sales in montclair, CA. It was a "certified" used car, supposedly. Immediately I noticed that the engine sounded "tinny". Sounded like a sewing machine, it was knocking. Also, when I lifted the oil stick, smoke came out of engine. This was within 2 weeks after purchase. The car completely lost compression on interstate 10 in April, 2015. I told both Hyundai and enterprise who ignored my complaints. Finally, after several complaints and threats, enterprise took the car in and sent it to Hyundai dealership who claimed there was no problem. The car began losing power again in September, 2016 and finally stopped in the middle of the street in arcadia, CA. No compression. It had to be towed to my house. I took it to private shop who said "zero compression in cylinder #1, possible burned out valve '. See attached. Called hyindai and enterprise again. Both denied responsibility, and refused to do anything. I have to now pay over $1,000 to get engine rebuilt. This car is a lemon and I am enttied to refund or a new car.

15 Engine Noise problem of the 2008 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/11/2015

I was merging onto I-275 e from I-471 and as I was pressing my foot down onto the gas pedal, the car started speeding up then continued to speed up when I removed my foot from the gas pedal. The engine locked at 65 mph. I tried to apply the brakes, but they were locked and wouldn't work. I put the car in 2nd gear while I still had my feet the brake. That did not slow the car. I then shifted the gear into 1st gear while keeping my feet on the brake. I took both feet off the brake then back on the brake. The car shifted into 1st gear and started to slow down while making the high engine noise. The car slowed down after the car shifted into 1st gear.

On the day of sales delivery the vehicle made this noise for at least two minutes which prompted me to alert the salesman and lift the hood for closer inspection.
