We bought the car used in 2017 from dealership. One month after purchase and less than 1000 miles after purchase, and less than 64000 miles total, the engine needed to be replaced due to oil issues with the cylinders. Adequate oil was in car and dealer insisted that all checks had been performed prior to sale. I have recently read about recalls for other kia and Hyundai vehicles due to engine failure problems for the same reason. I am reporting this issue in hope that this agency will consider investigating to see if the recall should be extended to Hyundai Elantras. This issue appears to be repeating among other vehicles made by hyandai in the same time frame my car was manufactured. I am also concerned about the repair that was performed because now there are additional recalls by Hyundai and kia for the engine repairs that were performed on the other recalled models. The dealership and Hyundai did cover most of cost of engine replacement but I want to be sure the repair was safely done. There are reports of engine fires related to high pressure fuel pipes and fuel leaks.
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Elantra. While driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle jerked and the air bag indicator illuminated. Also, the brake lights failed to work. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer (henderson Hyundai, 46 n boulder hwy, henderson, nc 89015) where it was diagnosed that the fuel injector was clogged and the vehicle had an oil leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 60,000.

Receive service campaign notification to apply rust-proofing materials to underbody to arrest the corrosion process. Took car to local Hyundai dealer for rust-proofing and was informed that the oil pan is rusted and needs replaced at a cost to me over $600 - I have written estimate from Hyundai dealer. Informed that oil pan needs replaced because if it fails that oil will leak out and damage\ruin engine. Told Hyundai would not cover oil pan replacement under warranty as I am not the original owner even though mileage was under 100,000 at time of service. If I was the original owner, then it would have been covered under the 100,000 mile bumper to bumper coverage. I also have a 2010 Hyundai Elantra that received same service campaign notice for rust proofing underbody and oil pan is looking its like heading into same direction in need of replacement due to rust. This should not be happening to the oil pan even after 10 years of age.

Sudden acceleration incident
I am the son of the car owner. I was driving the car. The incident occurred about 8:30 am on June 17, 2010, in bethesda, MD. I was exiting the giant food parking lot and stopped for traffic along old georgetown road. The car stopped but then all of a sudden inched ahead. I pushed down harder on the brake; heard the engine racing; saw the tachometer go past 6000 rpms. I immediately put the transmission in neutral. The engine was still racing. I turned off the car. I started the car and the same thing occurred, the tachometer went past 6000 rpms. I turned off the car. I rolled the car to a parking space. I called my wife. A few minutes past, and I started the car again. This time it operated properly. I took the car to fitzgerald auto mall that evening, for next day service. The technician reported hearing of such incidents when "after market oil filters were used on both Hyundai's and on Subaru's. " I recently had an oil change on that car. The gaskets are apparently not the same as on the factory oil filters. So the oil and filter was changed. They also found a mis-fire code in the computer. So the plugs and wires were changed. There was no vacuum leak code in the system.

Oil filter gasket was stuck to the engine clock. As a result, a leak developed, and oil began to spray all over the vehicle, and the engine seized.
