1 Engine problem of the 2007 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/23/2011

I was driving my 2007 Hyundai Elantra with 73,000 (about I need to get the final death mileage) miles on it. I heard a slight rattle when I pushed in the gas pedal. I noticed it happened when I started. I was about a mile from home and figured it was a loose screw and drove carefully. All gauges and lights were normal, no smoke ect. I started up a hill. The rattle got louder quickly (10-15 seconds). The temp gauge spiked suddenly and my rpm's dropped down to 1 and below. I pulled into a left hand turn lane at a light. The car died. From beginning to end the whole thing took anout five minutes from rattle to death. I took it to the Hyundai dealership in kirkland. The engine is dead due to overheating of an unknown cause. I searched an found NHTSA id # 08v429000. It describes a fuel pump error in which the car suddenly loses engine pressure leading to overheating, engine death and car crashes. I belive my car is one of those cars. I take immaculate care of my car and what happened is what is described in the NHTSA campaign. My car needs a new engine. I am trying to opt for trade. I want to know what to do. I am working woth the Hyundai dealership in kirkland wa. They are giving me a good trade in value and a fair deal on a used car. I would like to get a replacement or reimbursed or what have you as the car obviously had a defect. I am really glad I am safe. Had it happened ten minutes earlier I would have been toast.

6 Engine problem of the 2004 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 03/04/2004

I was driving a hyudai elentra rental car and I was stopped at a red light with the car in drive and my foot on the brake, and the brake was not holding the car back and the car was drifting forward a little into the intersection. I put the car into neutral and you could hear the engine revving very fast even though I did not have my foot on the gas pedal. I told the attendant when I returned the rental car that the brake wasn't holding the car back at a red light, but told her that I did not know what the problem was. She said that she would take the car out of service to be checked. The following week in the March 9 USA today there was an article reporting that some Toyota camrys, camry solaras, and Lexus ES 300s surged forward with no reason. I believe that this is what occurred in the Hyundai that I was driving. I have called avis to give them the car number that I was driving so that they can take the car in to be checked. I have listed the car below as a 2004 model. I believe that it was a 2004 because it was new and had low mileage. A question below asks whether it had cruise control, but I don't know.
