1 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem of the 2015 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/06/2020

While driving my 2015 Hyundai Elantra it started making a rattling noise from the area around the engine. This noise eventually grew to a loud knocking noise. The knocking noise continued and I began to feel it vibrating in my steering wheel. I took my car to my local Hyundai dealership in grand junction, CO to have it looked at. The service technician came out and as soon as I described it he said he knew exactly what the problem was because they have been receiving a lot of complaints about it. After turning the vehicle on and inspecting it he assured me that the connection rods and bearings were going out and that I needed to replace my engine that had 50,000 miles on it. I was also given the option to only replace the lower half of my engine for half the price but that price would possibly even out to an entire engine replacement because the cost of labor would go up. I decided to research this issue further and have found that recalls have been issued for several other vehicles with the same engine and issue but my vehicle has yet to be part of the recall. This has been a major inconvenience for my family and I as I have not used this vehicle since may 2020 and have been told by Hyundai that even though this is a common issue there is nothing that can or will do to help me because it has not been recalled for my vehicle.

2 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem of the 2014 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/05/2020

My car started making a rattling noise in the engine. It then stalled when I came to a stop. I was on a side street and was able to restart it, but every time I came to a stop or slowed down it would stall. I was lucky I was able to make it to the side of the highway every time it stalled (it stalled several times in the 2 days before I could get it to the mechanic) I made an appointment with a mechanic and they told me I need a new engine. My car has 57714 miles on it and is regularly maintained. I called a Hyundai dealership and they told me since I was the second owner that it was not covered under warranty. The warranty I purchased when I bought the car will cover half the cost of a new engine.

3 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem of the 2014 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/12/2019

I purchased a 2014 Hyundai Elantra gt brand new. Admittedly I put a lot of miles on my vehicle and it had 121000 miles. However, I always kept up on my maintenance and always used synthetic oil since the first oil change. After getting an oil change I was about 3 miles from the facility and my car suddenly lost rpm and the speed decreased. I pulled over to the side of the road and turned my vehicle off. No lights came on, not engine or oil. I turned the vehicle back on and suddenly the engine started making a rattling noise. I called a tow truck and had the vehicle towed to my local garage. That mechanic said he thought it was the timing chain. I then had the car towed to dickson city Hyundai. There, they said I needed a new engine. I began speaking with a representative from Hyundai customer care. I ended up having to pay half of the engine replacement and labor costs. My portion was $3250. This is completely ridiculous that a vehicle always maintained would have the engine gone a month before the five year anniversary of purchasing it. I will never buy another Hyundai in my life.

4 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem of the 2018 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 12/08/2018

When accelerating with moderate to heavy throttle input, the engine emits excessive pinging and rattles noises. It sounds like "spark knock". No matter what brand of fuel or octane I run the car on, the engine makes these pinging and rattling noises. I've brought the car to the dealership service dept. Twice so far to address this concern. I was informed the first time that they hear the noise, but cannot diagnose it because the check engine light isn't illuminated. On the second visit, they told me it is a normal noise for the car. Having owned a handful of vehicles over the years, this noise is indicative of spark knock. If the problem is indeed excessive spark knock, this can lead to catastrophic engine failure, causing sudden loss of all power. After researching the issue online and speaking with other owners, it is apparent to me that it is a fairly common problem with the 2018 Hyundai Elantra sedan. I would like Hyundai to investigate this issue and come up with a fix. This problem has existed since brand-new off the dealer lot. The car currently has approximately 4,000 miles.

5 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem of the 2014 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/03/2018

On December 8, 2017 I purchased a 2014 Hyundai Elantra coupe. On August 3, 2018 while driving on the highway the car started making rattling noises. I pulled over and the car shut down. I had to have the car towed. I contacted the Hyundai corporation. I was instructed to take the car to my local Hyundai dealership. The Hyundai contact stated that it was not normal that a three year old Hyundai automobile engine should die. The Hyundai contact stated that my local Hyundai dealership should perform a PA. Pa is a prior approval. The PA was performed and along with the Hyundai dealerships director of service kevin anderson support, and agreement of abnormality, the PA was submitted. The PA came back as denied stating excessive mileage. The director of service disagreed and resubmitted the PA. The case was elevated to a Hyundai corporate case manager by the name cameron. Cameron rejected the PA as well but changed the reasoning to mileage over warranty. The whole reason for the PA in the first place was because the car was out of warranty. I at this point on August 31, 2018 overnighted a letter to the ceo of Hyundai mr. Kyung soo lee. To date I have received no response from the Hyundai corporation. In speaking with the dealership service director I was informed that at his dealership alone there are 5/6 Hyundai Elantras that have lost their engines. He also informed me that the Hyundai sonata has an open recall on the engine. He stated that the engines for both the sonata and Elantra vehicles are currently back ordered for a term of at least 1 to 2 years. In my personal online research I have found complaints of the exact circumstances happening to the Elantra engines: highway driving, no warning indicators, rattling noises, vehicle stopping, and engine dead. I am enclosing the ceo letter along with the PA documentation.

6 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem of the 2015 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/08/2018

Starting a couple of weeks ago, my vehicle has been making a rattling noise while in park and while in drive (especially with accelerating). No check engine light. I took my vehicle to get serviced and was told there are metallic shavings in the oil to support that there is lower engine failure (crankshaft with too much clearance) and that I need a new engine. I went to other auto shops and was told the same thing. The vehicle only has 76,000 miles and has received regular maintenance with oil changes every 5,000 miles.

7 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/15/2014

When I start the engine it makes a very loud rattling noise and when I drive and I push on gas it is rattles. It sounds more like grinding loud noise too. Motor knocks when you start it up and now for the last week when I start it the car will sputter and then shot off. Sometimes will take many times for it to even start. It will rpm very high even when I am not moving. I have had alot of problems with this car now bc of the issues I am using more gas. I have a little under 80 thousand miles on it and it will leave me set. Wondering if anyone knows of any recalls on this stuff or know what could be wrong with it and if Hyundai still does life time warranty. . . Thanks.

9 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem of the 2003 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/22/2003

I have a 2003 Hyundai elananta gt. There is a whining noise from both sides of the front of the vehicle when driving on the highway at high speeds, sometimes at 55 mph or at 75 mph. The dealer replaced the left front wheel bearing on 4/22/03. The noise on the left went away. The same noise surfaced on the on the right side of the car. On 5/22/03 the dealer replaced the right front engine mount, they said it was coming apart. Once I drove the car on the highway again on 5/29/03 the noise was there. I also still heard the whinning noise from the left side of the car again, but for just a couple of seconds. The right side will make noise continuously. Now I have to go back to the dealer again, wasting more of my time, money, and extra miles on my car. I live 130 miles from the nearest Hyundai dealer. I have owned this car from 4/08/03 and the car has 2400 miles on it and will now be on my third attempt to have this car repaired.
