1 Frame Rust problem of the 2006 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/26/2021

Went for an inspection and was told my front sub frame was rusted and rotted. They told me it was under recall, but upon further research I found there have been recalls on this same part for other years of this car but apparantly the 2006 was not included, even though I have the same issues, and they charged me for other repairs under the pretense that the sub frame would be fixed by a dealership for free due to the recall.

4 Frame Rust problem of the 2008 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 11/01/2017

Recall for undercoating done Jan. 2016 (tt1). On 11/1/17, while driving on a town road, the rear right trailing arm fell off causing the car to swerve abruptly off the road due to extreme rust on the sub frame. This also happened with my 2002 santa fe and was covered under the salt belt corrosion class action settlement. Hyundai is aware there is still a problem, but the undercoating recall does not work and this is still a safety hazard. My car was towed to a repair facility on Nov. 1, and I am still waiting to hear back from Hyundai as to my next steps to get this repaired.

9 Frame Rust problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/09/2016

My vehicle has control arm rust and perforations in the subframe, covered under an existing recall. Hyundai has admitted that the parts are covered under the recall, but states that they are unable to replace the subframe and control arms due to rust damage on the frame itself. Replacing the damaged portions of the frame will cost well over the price of the vehicle. If the subframe did not have to be replaced, the frame would likely hold for some time and not require replacement in the near future. The frame damage is only an immediate issue because the recall repair needs to be done. Hyundai has offered me to either replace the frame damage at my own expense so they can complete the recall repair, or take a buyout equal to the kelly blue book value of the vehicle. Other compensation such as rental fees was refused. It has taken them ~25 days since receiving the vehicle to make this offer.

13 Frame Rust problem of the 2003 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/07/2008

A truck stopped without warning, in front of me. I hit my brakes and turned the wheel to the left to avoid a rear end collison, my car felt like it had a flat tire. I checked and there was no flat, but the right front tire was not going straight as the left front tire was. I had the vehicle towed to a mechanic, where it was found that the a-frame had rusted and snapped. I had the a-frame replaced, and the mechanic also checked out the a-frame on the left side of the car, and found that there was no rust or damage on that side.

14 Frame Rust problem of the 1996 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 11/03/2003

I own a 1996 Hyundai Elantra. My ex purchased this vehicle from a used car lot. We have had the car for over 3 years. On Monday morning I was on my way to the dentist and noticed a very loud "loose bumping" sound. . I know that probably doesn't make sense. . . . Upon my quick return home I noticed that the driver rear tire (the entire thing) seemed to be loose and wobbly. . . I had a friend come and take a look to see what was wrong. After jacking the car up, with the car in the air and the tire still on the ground he thought that the strut was broken. So after further investigation, it was noticed that the strut mounting t the frame had fallen thru a rusted hole in the frame of my car. Distraught as I was, and with no help from the Hyundai dealer in the louisville area, I was out of luck on how to rectify this situation. Now I am still paying for a car that I can never drive. I am wanting to know if any other Hyundai owners have this problem. I mean the car is not even 10 years old. . . And the frame is rusting out on me. . . . . There are no other rust spots on the car anywhere. . . . I am just trying to understand why my car is broke and no one is able to help me fix it.
