I recently purchased this vehicle used at a dealership. As I was driving to work on the interstate I ran over a part of the interstate that was pot holes but filled in. As I ran over the area, my back end started to fish tail. I took the car back to the dealership on 04/18/2015 and I was told that the tire pressure was wrong and that I needed to be aware that my car was considered a sports car and it would handle differently than a regular car and the back end being "loose" was normal. The tire pressure was adjusted but I am still having the same problem although not as bad and it is only on certain "bumps" in the road that the vehicle tries to fish tail.

This car has large blind spots caused by both the left and right front pillars. The positioning of the rear view mirror only makes the right blind spot larger as there is only the space from the bottom of the mirror to the right pillar to view outside of the car. As a result, I almost hit someone crossing the street from my right to my left. Thankfully, I saw them in time to apply my brakes. This happens frequently with this car. And, at intersections where there is a four-way stop or, when I am entering the lane, I can often not see a car coming from either direction. I fully anticipate that this car will be involved in numerous accidents. The Elantra driver will be at fault but no one will look to this "defect" in the car as the problem.
My car I bought brand new in March of 09 I had about 9200 miles when things started to bang they change rubbers mounts I took in back they said we don't know what it is we can not fix it then I took it to another Hyundai dealer and they said the same thing they had people from Hyundai new jersey and they looked at it and could not find nothing its still banging I took it back 7-8 times there lazy or don't know what there doing I do have a warranty.

2002 Hyundai Elantra with 69,692 miles, original owner; driving in school parking lot, the driver-side lower control arm broke in two, subsequent inspection shows it to have rotted through. Tire was perpendicular to the vehicle. Towed to Hyundai dealer in natick, MA. Have not heard back from dealer yet, but obviously need a new lower control arm and at least an inspection of passenger-side lower control arm. I have pictures of the damage. I expect this to be covered under 100,000 mile transaxle warranty; we'll see. This would have been catastrophic at highway speed. Updated 04/22/09.
The in-dash front-panel console pieces make very irritating squeaky noises when driving over even little bumps distracting the driver from normal driving experience.
I was driving downhill to a stop sign (from about 20mph), and pressed the brake pedal, at which point I heard an awful crunch noise, and the front right corner of my car jolted, shook, and sounded like something was grinding together. I got out of the car to look at the front right wheel, and saw that it was turned in towards the center of the car, and bent under the front of the car, about 1/4" away from the back of the wheel well, while my other front wheel was aimed straight ahead. I drove the car 100 feet to a safe place off the street, during which trip the steering wheel tried to spin wildly in various directions, and the crunching, jolting noises and motions continued. The car was not drivable, so I called a flatbed tow truck, who towed it to my mechanic. . When the mechanic was able to look at the vehicle, he determined that the control arm had completely snapped in half, as a result of rust corrosion from the inside out. Visual inspection of the control arm confirmed that the metal it is constructed out of was corroded down to a thickness of approximately 5 or 6 sheets of paper. Water kicked up from wet roads by the tires had gotten inside the control arm (through a faulty seal) and, as there are no drainage holes in the control arm, it remained inside, eating away at the metal until finally the weight of the car snapped the arm in half. This failure of the control arm also wrecked the suspension of the car, as well as the cv shaft, the right front axle, and the sway bar links. The control arm, the cv shaft, and the sway bar links had to be completely replaced, and the car needed a realignment.
I failed to turn my wheel sufficiently and hit a palm tree at four miles per hour. No air bag deployed and I hit the steering wheel. The vehicle suffered $3400. 00 of damages from this four mile per hour crash. I do not feel this vehicle is safe.

She felt that there may be mold forming in the vehicle. The water came down on her feet, and came in on the gear shift. The contact will be calling the manufacturer to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 6544, and the current mileage was 8576. Updated 03/30/07.

Consumer 2003 Hyundai Elantra has a design flaw, in the positioning of the brake pedal and its proximity to the gas pedal. ** answer required*** the vehicle suddenly backed down the driveway into the curbside mailbox. On another occasion the consumer stopped the vehicle, but the vehicle bucked and hit a vehicle in front of them. The consumer noticed how the pedal was considerably higher and not as close to the gas pedal.
Water is leaking through the interior dome light and soaking the interior of the vehicle. The dealership has been contacted. The cause of the leak has yet to be determined.
I purchased a used Hyundai Elantra (1999). Due to credit issues I understand so had a very slim choice of vehicles. I was told that the vehicle I chose had a "25 point inspection" completed on it, and it is in "great" shape. When I took it for test drive I made a comment about the brakes grinding, again I was reassured by luvert allen that this "inspection" has been successfully completed and everything was fine. Once I got home I noticed more problems, such as the entire bottom of the vehicle is completely rusted out. The brakes pads are just grinding on metal, and it seems as if one of the axles is ready to break. When I called back dave phillips claimed I was having "buyers remorse", and that I "got what I paid for". Although this lemon, is past the lemon law status you would hope that people have business ethics. No one was willing to help me, when I expressed my safety concerns, dave phillips again said it was "buyers remorse" and I was "over reacting". Personally when it has to do with vehicle safety I can't believe a car "professional" would say that a customer was overreacting when expressing her safety concerns in the vehicle he sold her. I have had this vehicle for less than 24 hrs. As soon as I left that lot the check engine light came on. Luvert allen specifically stated that if this happens we can take it back. That too was a lie. Since we drove it off the lot it is. . . How did they put it. . "my problem". I have attempted to get help these and they refuse, what type of business is so careless when it comes to the safety of their customers. After reading the other complaint about south town riverdale I guess my question has been answered.

Check engine light came on three different times first repair was engine manifold, second repair was oxygen sensor, third time the dealer could not find the problem. Dealer probably unplugged the light all repairs were under warranty but dealer suggested I get the service done since they had it in the shop. Both sun visor plastic clips that hold the visor in place broke off and on the passenger side the visor is broken at the swivel arm. All of the small plastic door plugs have fell out. Remote gas tank door will not open on cold days. Vehicle pulls to the right and wheel shakes at speeds 35 and above. Small scratch in paint goes down to the primer.
While driving, the air bag light illuminated. The cause of the problem had not been identified. The consumer stated the air bag light continued to be a problem, the dealer would just reset the code without identifying the problem. The driver side window went up and down by itself, the dealer replaced the master switch, the black rubber stripping was missing from the door, the cigarette lighter was inoperative, the battery failed and was replaced abl. Pco.
Extremely loud wind noise when driving into or with a crosswind. Noise seems to emanate from front of vehicle. Dealer has been unable to repair.
Nar 02/25/2003. The consumer had a seziure while driving and as a reuslt he crashed into 2 telephone poles, the air bags and seat belts performed as designed, however the firewall deflected 22cm into the consumer legs and shattered them.
The driver side door leaked when it rained. The vehicle has been to the dealer four times for this same problem, but the water still leaks into the vehicle. The manufacturer is not aware of the problem.
Defective windshield-2003 Hyundai Elantra GLS. There was a terrible glare from the sun hitting the windshield which made it extremely hard to judge the distance of objects. The dealer was notified and stated that the glare was a characteristic of the car. The vehicle experienced brake noise. The dealer did some work on the car but is was still noisy. The defroster took 15-20 minutes to clear the windows and heated mirrors. When it rained the water was on the inside the vehicle on the underside of the car door.
Airbags deployed without an impact or collision. The consumer stated the door handle broke.
