37 Headlights problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/07/2009

The inside of the headlight assembly has fogged up causing the brightness of the lamp to diminish to the point where I feel it is dangerous and I need to replace the entire assembly. I have spoken with Hyundai at the corporate level and they basically said that there is no way to clean the inside of the assembly and I would have to replace them at my expense. This is a major safety issue. As with other Elantra owners I have complaints about the headlights constantly needing replacement.

39 Headlights problem of the 2003 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 11/25/2008

Head lights - I have a 2003 Elantra and have to replace headlights every two to six months. I need to know what is causing this problem. Dealership only claims that everyone is complaining of the same thing, but offer no explanation.

40 Headlights problem of the 2003 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/28/2008

Head light bulbs keep burning out. I have to replace the headlights in my car about every 3-6 months since I purchased the car new in oct 2002. And the dealership said there was no problem. I have had the dealership replace them, garages replace them, a neighbor who is a mechanic and myself so it's not that it has not been done correctly. I have started buying the 2 pack of bulbs because almost like clockwork once the one bulb goes the other goes within a short period. I have put about 10-15 bulbs in each headlight since I bought the car but have never replaced the highbeam bulbs only the low beam.

41 Headlights problem of the 2003 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/11/2008

I've owned this 2003 Elantra since July and have had both headlights replaced. This is uncommon. The car has only 33,000 miles. Something is wrong the lights should last longer than that.

42 Headlights problem of the 2003 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 09/30/2008

Since having the car, I bought it used a year ago, while not noticing any major issues, I still continue to have problems with the headlights going out. I have had the headlights changed three times now with alternating sides going out every few months. I cannot imagine this being a normal occurrence.

43 Headlights problem of the 2006 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 03/05/2008

I have a 2006 Hyundai Elantra. I have just replaced my headlights for the third time in 6 months. When I took the car to the dealer after the last time, they "claimed" they had checked all wiring and lamps and stated all was okay. Somehow I doubt it was the bulbs. One went out a couple of days ago and the other blew today. Thankfully, I was by my home when it was getting dark. I am going to have them check it again this week.

46 Headlights problem of the 2003 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/07/2007

We purchased a 2003 in February 2006 , since then the headlights had to been changed 3 times, and now again after being stopped not knowing the passenger side was out, it went out right before we got stopped on api l 7,2007, being charged with a ticket. And 3 points off my drivers license without a warning ticket to get it fixed. There needs to be a recall on these cars it shouldnt happen that many times.

47 Headlights problem of the 2003 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/02/2007

I have had to replace the driver's side headlamp 3 times in 3 years. Apparently I am not the only one, the chats and blogs are full of similar complaints internationally. According to what I have read, I am one of the lucky ones. Others have experienced much more frequent replacements. Curiously enough, the driver's side lamp is the one that blows. I have saved the last lamp replaced. It is a sylvania silverstar. This is the third brand of bulb / lamp. My wife is night blind. She tries to avoid driving after dark. The undependable lighting system poses a serious safety hazard in her case and I am sure in seniors who require more light to see clearly.

48 Headlights problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 12/30/2006

Headlight bulbs on my 2002 Hyundai Elantra burn out every few months. Most recently had to be replaced in September 2006 and again in December 2006. When I contacted the dealer, gary rome Hyundai, holyoke, MA, (413) 536-4328, I was told that they would charge $90/hour to look at the problem and could not guarantee that they would find it. They suggested that the bulbs were being installed improperly, and also offered to limit work to 1/2 hour.

49 Headlights problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/31/2006

Headlights on my vehicle keep burning out to rapidly. This will be the 4th time I have replaced them so far. I have used Hyundai bulbs to very expensive bulbs and the result is the same and the driver side bulb is very difficult to change.

50 Headlights problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/15/2006

My headlights keep burning out. The driver's side bulb is very difficult to change - not room for fingers to rotate bulb in and out. Replacement lights are expensive. Had never had this problem with any other car.

51 Headlights problem of the 2001 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/14/2006

Headlights burning out frequently was the first sign of problems, replaced them as the dealer said this was inherent to the 2001 Elantra. In August 2006 check engine light came on. Also, the air bag sensor light was on, headlight out again, took car to dealer, they called back and said that the alternator had been over charging and not only was the over charging burning out the headlights it also had taken out the cruise control module, and air bag module. Car had only 42000 miles on it, and was 2 weeks from being out of the 5 year bumper to bumper warranty. Well here it is 6 months later and 47000 miles and check engine light is back on, I have since purchased a diagnostic tool to read the codes. The car was running rough at idle. The codes came up as mis fire on cylinder 3, tps sensor failure and map barometer failure. I replaced the plugs and wires, engine still ran rough. Took car back to dealer they replaced the tps, still running rough, they suggested that because of the faulty tps that the excessive dumping of fuel into the jets could have caused one of them to be clogged. I had them clean the jets as well as replace the plugs and wires again (they had also found that #3 wire had been arcing. ) this took care of the idle problem. I took the car home and the next day driving the car would surge between 3rd and 4th gear, engine light back on. Still have the map error. Dealer ended up replacing the map sensor. It has been about a month since this last occourence and all I can do is cross my fingers until I trade it in. Abl. Pco.

52 Headlights problem of the 2005 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/10/2006

With the a/c on the headlights will dim briefly at different times just for a moment. A couple of times the have gone all the way out briefly. The lights will dim enough that people think I'm flashing my lights at them. This problem only occurs with the a/c on, the cause of the problem is when the a/c compressor cuts on it takes a lot of voltage to turn it on, and the headlights dim briefly. Depending on the weather this problem can happen every half mile. This problem has been on going. Took the car to the dealer, and the said every thing checks out ok, its just the nature of this brand of car.

53 Headlights problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/06/2006

I have to continually replace my headlights. Since purchasing the car in 2002 I have had to replace the bulbs at least 3 times a piece. Dealer told me it was the bulbs I was buying but I am buying Hyundai bulbs. This problem is very annoying. It is hard to replace driver side by myself. Very expensive to take to dealership to be changed. Also there is no way of knowing when the bulb burns out, had to wait for cops to pull me over to find out.

54 Headlights problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

2002 Elantra headlight bulbs burn out every two months. First one then two weeks later the other, just like clockwork. I have never seen anything like this, auto headlamps generally last for years! very expensive and annoying problem.

59 Headlights problem of the 2003 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/21/2005

2003 Hyundai Elantra has 69,173 miles & has had numerous problems with the headlights burning out. The most recent replacements didn't even last 1,000 miles. 7/27/09 - left headlight- 69,173 (mileage) 7/5/09 - both headlights - 68,670 (mileage) 5/6/08 - left headlight- 57,921(mileage) 11/5/07 - right headlight- 52,428(mileage) 9/5/07 - left headlight- 50,633(mileage) 4/9/07 - right headlight- 45,223(mileage) 6/3/06 - left headlight- 36,405(mileage) 10/21/05 - 29,192(mileage) I talked to a mechanic- he said there is nothing that can be done to fix the problem other than keep replacing the burned out lights. I find this an unacceptable solution - it is a safety hazard. My son was driving home on 7/5/09 & both headlights burned out. He had to drive home on high beams. There is no reason for a car to keep burning out headlights. Updated 08/04/09. 8jb.

60 Headlights problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/05/2005

Headlamp bulbs burn out every couple of months. I was using aftermarket bulbs which have no warranty. After I went through 4 bulbs. I purchased new bulbs from dealer and have not had an issue with them for over a year and a half and still working fine. I removed the assembly to make sure the bulbs were in correctly and secure and I made sure to use a tissue so not to have any oil from my hands get on the bulbs each time which could make bulbs burn out quicker.

61 Headlights problem of the 2004 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 12/23/2004

I purchased a 2004 Hyundai Elantra in September 2004. I have had little trouble with the vehicle. I drive to work at 4:30 am. One morning, I took a different route. There were barrier poles planted in the road. I did not see them until the very last minute. I swerved to avoid them. At the toll plaza, the police pulled me to the side and told me my lights were off. The switch was on, but there were no headlights. Since then, a number of drivers signaled to me that my lights were off. I was again stopped by the police and told my lights were off. My light switch was in the on position. I took the car to the dealer for service and they replaced the alternator. I still do not feel the low beam lights are bright enough. Any help you could offer would be appreciated. Thank you dianne c. Burger.

62 Headlights problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/03/2004

I have had to replace the bulbs in the headlights of my 2002 Hyundai Elantra gt at least 4 times (this will be the 5th) as they continue to burn out on a regular basis. In comparison to older cars that I have previously owned, I have never had to replace the lamps with such frequency.

63 Headlights problem of the 2001 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 07/20/2004

I have had nothing but problems with this vehicle. The headlight constantly were blowing out, it guzzles gas like crazy! then now two sensors are bad and per the dealer they have been having numerous problems with these sensors but won't replace them? I love Hyundai always had one but this one turned out to be a pain in the butt.

64 Headlights problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/24/2004

The headlights on the car keep failing which prevents me from driving safely or driving at all. As of this date the headlights have failed 4 times now; twice on each side with the latest occurring this past week. I contacted the dealership (rowe, 207-854-2555) that has been replacing the lamps and asked for an explanation as to why the headlights keep failing. They said they didnt know but insinuated the lamps were cheap . He then stated the dealership would continue to replace the bulbs at no cost until the warranty expires. This is obviously not an acceptable situation. If the real problem is as simple as the lamps being defective or cheap they need to be replaced with a quality product before someone gets hurt or killed.

He missed seeing a four way stop sign and side swiped another car going about 35mph. The passenger air bag deployed and shattered my left wrist which has resulted in 3 surgerys and daily physical therapy with hopes of getting the use of my hand back. Dt.

70 Headlights problem of the 2001 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/15/2002

Incident date is estimated. I have put approximately 17,000 miles on the vehicle during the course of each year (never more than 20k or less than 15k) and on three separate occasions, all between 9 and 15 months apart, my headlights have failed. On one occasion both lamps failed within a two weeks and before I could replace the first failed one resulting in a potentially hazardous situation where I would have had no headlights. Each time my local Hyundai service center has replaced them and on at least one occasion, made comments suggesting this was a common occurrence with my make/model vehicle. Interesting to note, the failures have always occurred in the winter.
