Rear Suspension Problems of Hyundai Elantra

2017 Hyundai Elantra. Consumer writes in regard to rust on rear suspension. The consumer stated the vehicle had an under coating spray applied to the vehicle due to rusting. The consumer stated the spray was not applied properly. The upper driver side trail arm broke off.

Tl the contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Elantra. While driving 40 mph, the rear axle detached from the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated before the failure. The contact stated that the rear axle was rotted and there was frame corrosion on the rear side of the frame. The contact had the vehicle towed to riverhead Hyundai (1800 old country rd, riverhead, NY 11901, (631) 369-0600) and was advised that nothing could be done. The manufacturer was not notified. Tl the contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. When the brake pedal was depressed, it failed to fully engage and required the contact to pump the brake pedal or apply force to stop the vehicle. In addition, while driving over rough terrain, the rear of the vehicle swayed abnormally. While driving at an unknown speed over a bump in the road, the rear of the vehicle became very unstable and caused the driver to nearly lose control of the vehicle. 2010 Hyundai Elantra touring. Consumer writes in regards to loud clunking sound coming from the rear area of the vehicle. The dealer stated, despite several attempts to examine the vehicle on the lift and several test drives, the mechanics were unable to pinpoint or correct the problem.

2002 Hyundai Elantra. Consumer writes in regards to recall notice concerning front steering or control mechanisms, rust and potential failures the consumer stated on March 10, 2010, she went to the dealer after receiving a recall notice. Upon inspection, it was determined the parts did not need to be replaced. On January 31, 2012, the same parts that were the subject of the recall failed. The consumer stated when the steering failed, the vehicle was violently forced into oncoming traffic which nearly resulted in a head-on collision and was then violently forced back across the lane in which she had been traveling, narrowly missing another vehicle. The vehicle had to be towed as it could not be driven. The consumer had other problems such as the engine light illuminating, due to an internal failure of the catalytic converter and a broken rear spring, as well as weak struts.

One of my Elantra's started shaking really bad to the point that I couldn't drive. I brought it into the closest shop. They told me that the alignment was way off spec. They ordered the proper parts and were able to put the front alignment in spec. Then they told me that the bad could not be fixed, they are non-adjustable struts. I then took it to the dealer which has now told me the same thing. The car is 1 years old and cannot be fixed. I contacted Hyundai corporate and they are sending a rep to check out the situation. Upon researching this problem I found that there were other Elantra owners out there with this same problem. My mechanic believes that this has to do with the car not being built to hold even the maximum weight capacity. I am also concerned because I have another of the same car.

1. Wearing tires, 2. Non adjustable rear suspension out of spec. 3. Dealer states loosened bolts and adjusted. Replaced tires at 34,200 miles.

Rear camber goes out of factory specification with loads 75 pounds and over causing unstability in the rear end causing the rear of the car to over react when steering the car.

Alignment on my vehicle (2007 Hyundai Elantra se) is not adjusted properly, and cannot be adjusted properly. Vehicle is unsafe to drive on the highway. Rear end goes sideways because camber settings are creating oversteer situation.

Upon having my vehicle repaired for an illuminated "check engine" light, my mechanic discovered that my rear struts were leaking due to a manufacturing defect. My car has 28,000 miles on it. It was apparent to him that they had been leaking for a while, although this would be an undetectable problem to myself, the driver. My dealer refuses to repair it under the warranty due to the fact that it was discovered 2 weeks after the warranty expired.

While driving 45 mph, the consumer's vehicle crashed into a vehicle in front of her. The seat belt was worn, but the air bags did not deploy. The clutch pedal had to be replaced twice in the last six months. The dealer and the manufacturer were aware of the problem. The rear struts had gone out and leaked.
