2 Suspension problem of the 2019 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 03/22/2025

The suspension on this vehicle is out of control. The vehicle jumps, and it moves from one side to another over any road bump. The car only has 60,000 miles and it shouldn't be doing that, it's unsafe and it can cause an accident.

4 Suspension problem of the 2024 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/26/2025

Towards the end of January, my car computer was reset because the car was telling me that I needed an oil change early and the dealership told me it could just be a computer issue. I then took my car to get an oil change and full vehicle inspection on February 24th, 2 days after that on the 26th I was leaving my school parking lot when the vehicle accelerated awkwardly when I was leaving out of a parking spot, I was then able to gain control back over the speed until the vehicle again abruptly accelerated and jerked to the left sending my car over a curb, deploying the air bag, and completely totaling out the vehicle.

5 Suspension problem of the 2005 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/21/2025

As I was driving about 25-30 mph when the front drivers side lower control arm snapped, resulting in loss of control and steering, which could’ve caused a major accident if driven on a highway/interstate at a higher rate of speed. The damage revealed the control arm had rotted from the inside and had broken from the bushing connected to the frame, with no indication of rust in the outside, which has been something that has documented with other same generation Hyundais. I have not been able to bring it to a dealer or mechanic to have it checked.

6 Suspension problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/27/2025

My car was recalled by Hyundai for a critical safety issue and has been at the dealership since July of 2024 awaiting repairs due to missing parts. Despite repeated follow-ups, Hyundai has been unable to provide a timeline for the repair. Recently, they offered to buy back the car, but the offer was far below its fair market value. When I declined, they stated they would return the car to me unfixed and unsafe. This situation has caused significant inconvenience and feels coercive, as I am forced to choose between accepting an unfair buyback or taking back an unsafe vehicle. I am seeking NHTSA's assistance to ensure Hyundai repairs the vehicle promptly, investigates their handling of recalls, and protects consumers from being placed in such unfair situations.

7 Suspension problem of the 2016 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/23/2025

I was driving normally down the road and all of a sudden I lost control and couldn’t turn my vehicle apparently the control arm rusted from the subframe, causing me to swerve hit a curb and cause more damage to the front end. Thank god I was on a not so busy street! I could have killed myself or someone else all because this company’s metal rusted out.

8 Suspension problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/19/2025

2013 Elantra coupe se. The car wanders on the highway like a boat constantly left and right all over the lane and if/when you hit a dip or bump it really throws the car around! there's obviously issues with the suspension on a multitude of these model/year vehicles if not all of theml. It is very dangerous and needs to be addressed and recalled. I do not have an alignment issue as the tires brakes rotors and calipers are all new no dragging /pulling etc and the tires are properly pressured as well. Extremely well maintained car by the owner extremely poorly engineered by the maker! the steering coupler has been replaced also taking the play out of the wheel as those things are a small rubber "cog wheel" that wears completely to nothing causing severe play and a clunking noise in the wheel between the turning of left or right as that component acts as a spacer/gear/vibration absorber between the steering shaft and the steering assist helper motor gears these cars also were sold knowing they were piston slap engines yet still never issued a recall until years and multi millions of complaints later only to only cover certain years and models yet they all had the same engine. Imagine the idiocy! I will never purchase a Hyundai or a kia ever again rest assured! I do my research and homework on every potential item I'm looking into possibly getting yet nowhere at the time was there any info regarding they were piston slap engines turning these out by the multi millions and trying to hide the fact until they no longer could. Disgustingly sad that they do not stand behind there product!.

The vehicle was taken back to the original dealer; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired 1,100.

10 Suspension problem of the 2021 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/28/2024

At around 93k miles my hecu unit apparently malfunctioned at the same time as the left front tire speed indicator. All of my safety features abs, adaptive cruise control, lane departure, lane keeping etc do not work because of this.

11 Suspension problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/19/2024

Steering has become loose and unsafe due to coupler malfunction. Unable to control wheels while driving and clicking noise while turning.

12 Suspension problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/01/2024

The bulbs are constantly blowing out, and need to be replaced. The steering wheel/column makes noises, and doesn't always lock, but when it does lock, it can be difficult to unlock it! the suspension shakes and rattles. There is a campaign for the corrosion of the undercarriage/suspension, that I was not aware of until a few weeks ago(I do have an appointment for that). The most pressing concern is with the steering(mechanic thinks it could be the coupler), and there are numerous complaints about this on various internet auto forums.

13 Suspension problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/01/2024

There is a known safety recall regarding brake fluid being leaked internally that has been acknowledged by Hyundai since September 2023. This can cause fires even when the vehicle is parked. No solution has been provided except for "park your vehicle outside". This has been a known safety issue for 8 months and no solution has been provided to us owners. Even parking outside is an issue as I live in memphis, TN the #1 city for auto theft. Auto theft has been rampant also due to Hyundai's unwillingness to install an ignition kill switch at production. Hyundai has been grossly negligent in the production of their vehicles and cutting corners at the consumer's safety expense. Not having a soltuin.

14 Suspension problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/08/2024

I was driving and would hear a squeaking sound when turning right. Then I started to hear rattling I pulled in my driveway that has a curb and noticed an object sticking out that looks like it should have been screwed into something. It ended up being the front right passenger strutt it exploded through its casing. Not only damaging the casing but the hood of the car. If I would have continued to drive on it I could have loss control of the vehicle and put me and others in danger on the road. I was unaware this was a reoccurring issue with this model until I did some digging on the internet it sounds like a manufacturer defect. Now I was going to take it to Hyundai dealership but they are stating they have to do a diagnostic for 170. 00 which you can visibly see the strutt sticking out the hood. Everyone keeps saying the tire can come off this happened with no warning I am unsure of what to do.

15 Suspension problem of the 2004 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/01/2024

Rapid rusting of rear subframe cross member. Car rarely gets driven in snow or even bad weather. Went from minimal signs of rust to looking pretty rotted within the past year. Saw recalls on similar Hyundai vehicles. Maybe possible the same steel was used, or same lack of corrosion preventative.

16 Suspension problem of the 2003 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 12/12/2023

The contact owns a 2003 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle hesitated and lost motive power. Additionally, while attempting to complete a turn, the contact heard an abnormal clicking sound coming from the front driver’s side of the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that the driver's side brake pad and rotor were abnormally worn and needed to be replaced; however, the power train failure was not determined. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 09v125000 (suspension) and 04v369000 (fuel system, gasoline) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 132,000.

17 Suspension problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 11/10/2023

Just to clarify, the VIN number claims my vehicle is a 2017 hyunda Elantra… but it is a 2017 Hyundai Elantra limited, which there are differences in the design/model of the vehicles. The vehicle was not inspected at time of purchase like originally mentioned to me in our agreement. (they only transferred my registration to the new vehicle) I had done nothing out of the ordinary to the vehicle, after inspection the vehicle then displayed a check engine light and would not start after leaving work for the day. It then began to stall every time I applied pressure to the brake or slowed down. After inspecting the issue at empire Hyundai they said the camshaft had been sheered by the cvvt pin and extensive repairs were needed. This happened in November 2023 and I have not been operating the vehicle since. I have gone through multiple sources to try to have this repaired by the dealership on their cost not mine due to me just purchasing the vehicle and this type of issue is a well known issue in Hyundais after they reach 100,000 miles- which I just surpassed.

18 Suspension problem of the 2003 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/21/2023

Live in indiana where the weather is super salty in the winters and all of the salt in indiana has really really affected the whole underside of my car. The whole subframe is falling apart and the rust has gotten to everything under the car. I have spent about 4 thousand dollars into this car doing all the work myself to make this car run in pristine conditions. I am very very worried that my whole back end will just fall apart going down the road due to the rust.

19 Suspension problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 09/29/2023

Unknown. When financing the vehicle through adonis auto group I was unaware of the unrepaired safety recall. Also I am under the impression nothing was done to the car before purchasing it, I have had to make repairs to the car only after 10,000 - 15,000 miles of driving. For example replacing the control arm, axle, brake hardware. My point is they are selling cars without repairing them and not advising the customer upon purchase. I also asked for the repair paperwork for what has been done to the car before purchase and never received it.

20 Suspension problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 09/26/2023

Without warning, car bump steers going over bumps on a curve of the road. Rear end of car will swing to the outside of curve, right or left depending on curve taken. This will cause a control problem, causing car to steer into oncoming traffic. Car will bump steer on a straight road depending on road condition.

23 Suspension problem of the 2010 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 07/25/2023

On July 25, 2023, I was driving in our town when I heard a noise coming from the rear of the car. I was very close to a repair facility that I sometimes use, so I slowly drove there. They looked at the car and showed me that the rear driver-side wheel was about to fall off. They then raised the car in the shop and told me that the rear upper-control arm had rusted through and broken, causing the wheel to break off. They showed me a photo of this. I was also told that had this happened on a highway at a higher speed, there could have been fatalities because control of the car would have been seriously affected. I contacted Hyundai about this and they told me to take to a dealer to be looked at. I refused to pay for this inspection and I now do not trust Hyundai.

24 Suspension problem of the 2008 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 07/07/2023

The sway bar was received in July 2023 and the sway bar was manufactured too short to fit the suspension of the 2008 Hyundai Elantra. The vendor was rockauto and this is another defective product they sent.

25 Suspension problem of the 2003 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/15/2023

Rear sub-frame assembly nearly rusted through. Steering and handling noticebly effected with rear of vehicle feeling soft and sluggish in turns. Vehicle is available for inspection and was brought to my attention when the mechanic was beginning rear brake maintenance. Mechanic is a licensed mechanic and the repair shop is a licensed service facility. Mechanic called me and asked me to return to the shop to show me the extent of the rust damage, to which I did return to the shop to examine his findings. I did take photos. *there were no warning lamps or messages. The symptoms were as described above.

26 Suspension problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/05/2023

Since I purchased this vehicle in 10-2012 I have had major suspension tracking issues. When driving at normal highway speeds (50-70mph), the slightest bump in the road makes the rear of the vehicle sway and "dog walk" . This has been an issue within the first few months of ownership, but the dealership found no issues. The situation started shortly after purchase and continues the same as of today (5-5-2023). I have replaced the rear shocks with better than oem shocks and continue to have the same situation. If the bump in the road happens to be in a slight curve (such as an expansion joint in bridge) on the interstate, the vehicle nearly looses complete traction. This happens with new tires and on dry, warm concrete. I have spoken with other owners of similar make and year and all have said they had the same issue, even right after purchase. No warning lights, traction control lights or messages appear on display. . I have had multiple inspection stations and garages check out the suspension and wheel units, but no malfunctions or defects found.

27 Suspension problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 03/25/2023

Driver side strut popped through housing, and penetrated front hood. Confirmed by Hyundai dealer on 10 April 2023, and also confirmed by another mechanic - which will make the repair, on 10 April 2023. No warning lamps. Alerted by rattling/rubbing/popping noise that occurred soon after taking the car to a Hyundai dealer in springfield, va to resolve a safety recall anti-theft matter. Mileage is estimated between 60k and 66k (car is being fixed now). Not only will strut and related items require repair, but the front hood also now requires repair.

28 Suspension problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 03/16/2023

The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Elantra. The contact initially received a recall notification from Hyundai motors of America for an underbody corrosion preventative service. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was provided a list of repairs that needed to be performed on the vehicle. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where pictures were taken to document the severity of the corrosion on the suspension. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where a second inspection of the corrosion was performed. Pictures of the suspension were taken by the dealer and submitted to the manufacturer; and the contact was provided a priority code number by the dealer. Despite the information that was submitted to the manufacturer, the manufacturer declined the repair. The contact was provided a case number by the manufacturer. The contact had the rear brakes replaced due to the severe corrosion; however, the issue remained. The failure mileage was approximately 29,586.

29 Suspension problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/14/2023

On February 14, 2023, around 6:30 pm the right front passenger front coil spring broke on my 2011 Hyundai Elantra. I was driving while crossing railroad tracks when the front end dropped down on the right side and the car wouldn’t move. I continued to push the accelerator to get my car off the tracks and on the side of the road- spring cut my tire ripping the inner tire wall. I made several calls to Hyundai (springfield IL dealership) and they informed although there was a current recall (number 15v629000) on this issue, I was advised that my VIN did not qualify. The reasoning was that my car's physical address didn’t qualify for the recall. I contested this with appropriate documentation that clearly showed the broken pieces with corrosion. I ended up suffering the cost of the towing bill and replacement of both strut assemblies. In March 2023, I received a recall (campaign - 984) to have an underbody cavity wax and anti-corrosion spray applied to prevent corrosion of components due to road salt. So, as I attempted to point out to Hyundai that my car and perhaps many others were at risk for these potentially fatal risk.

30 Suspension problem of the 2008 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/01/2023

The entire undercarriage of the vehicle is rusted, allowed for 3 sections is not sufficient as it does not accurately account for the damage. The fuel suspension is also affected from the known corrosion and rust issue. I have had to make many costly repairs in the last 4 years and I did not know about this issue with the vehicle I have now had for 17years. Had I , I would have done my own repairs to ensure the unit was safe and operational and not only relied on Hyundai's very delayed and subpar solution - considering my unit is a 2008 and the campaign did not come out until may 2014, of which I know for a fact my car was never listed.

31 Suspension problem of the 2010 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 11/07/2022

Turning onto my street and continued two hundred feet to my driveway I had to turn the steering wheel one quarter to the left to keep the car straight on the road. On inspection of the vehicle I noticed the left rear wheel was at an angle. Further inspection showed the suspension had departed.

32 Suspension problem of the 2008 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/23/2022

2 brake lines rusted through causing me to loose my brakes. Had the car towed to my local garage. I just got a call today letting me know that my trailing or control arm is severely rusted and has a hole. This happened before, 11/1/2017 and the car collapsed. This was covered last time under the salt belt corrosion class action settlement. Hyundai is aware there is still a problem, but the undercoating recall does not work and this is still a safety hazard and it may be the exact same part. I have called torrington Hyundai and am waiting for the manager to call back and also called Hyundai customer care and new case was opened #20523632. I was told it would be 2 to 5 days to be contacted by national consumer affairs. I am without a car again and need this resolved immediately. This has been so dangerous, my son and I could have been killed!.

33 Suspension problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/08/2022

The rear suspension crossmember fractured allowing the lower suspension arm to move causing the wheel to move out at the bottom by a considerable amount. I noticed it after a short local trip. I think if I had continued driving the lower arm may have completely disconnected resulting in potential loss of control. The crossmember has significant corrosion in this area but the component should be thick enough to allow for this. The car is at my home address therefore has not been inspected by a dealer. I have contacted them and the manufacturer and neither offer any help.

34 Suspension problem of the 2021 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/19/2022

The car was brought back to the dealership after a few months after noticing that the steering wheel would shake and the car would jerk when brake was applied to slow down. In normal street driving as well as during highway driving. The dealership since it was under the warranty replaced the front rotors and the brake pads to solve the issue. Within the one year of purchase of the car, it was once again having the same issues of steering wheel shaking and the car jerking motion back and forth. When he car was brought back to the dealership they said that it was not under the warranty and that they would not address the issue and that if I wanted it to be fixed I would have to pay out of pocket I think that there is something wrong with either the rotors or the braking system that is casing this shaking and the car jerking when trying to slow down, and it should be addressed and investigated further.

35 Suspension problem of the 2009 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 07/08/2022

The front sub frame of my 2009 Hyundai Elantra is completed rusted and rotted. It looks like the control arm is about to drop out of the frame. After an inspection by my mechanic he insisted the car is no longer safe to drive and suggested I do not put any money into the other problems we were having with it ( the reason it was at the shop).
