3 Starter problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/16/2020

For a year straight the car has been shutting off on my while I'm driving on the streets. This is very hazardous because it randomly happens. The car will just shut off as if it lost battery power while still in driving gear. When restarting the car it can sometimes take awhile because it will make a clicking noise like there is either a problem with the engine or starter for the car. When this happens occasionally the check engine light will come on.

4 Starter problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/01/2018

Takata recall car doesn't want to start and struggles to do so. Have replaced battery and key fob batteries. This has to be a starter issue, possibly an electrical short. Says "key out" while I'm driving it half the time. I am afraid it will cut off while I'm driving it! I have only had the car for 2 years! been doing this for about 2 months.

5 Starter problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/17/2018

Vehicle randomly does not start. When key is turned to position one lights, radio, windows, indicator lights all work as expected. When key is turned to start the engine nothing happens. The engine does not turnover or even attempt to turnover. The battery was replaced the first time this happened in April 2018. At that time I had the alternator and starter checked both were functioning properly. After repeated attempts to start the vehicle it has always started, eventually; it can take anywhere from 2 minutes to 30+ minutes for the engine to engage. When it first started occurring it happened pretty often. Prior to last Friday it had been a couple months since it took more than 30 minutes to start. I took the vehicle to another mechanic yesterday. Again starter, battery, alternator are all functioning properly. The mechanic mentioned that this model is known to have issues with the ignition and that I should contact the dealership, they may know what it is exactly. I've called two dealerships today, both say they know nothing about ignition problems in the vehicle.

6 Starter problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/20/2016

On or about 10/20/2016 my car all of a sudden would not start, I was working out in the field went into a patients home and the car as I turned the ignition key, nothing happened. The lights would come on and off. Called lutes kia for service. They said it was battery put new battery in. The next day the exact same thing happened would not start, called lutes kia after several days I was told they were not sure what was wrong and replaced the starter. I get my cars oil changed every 3000 miles, keep up on my maintenance. Electrical is affected something keeps shorting out head lights/ tail lights. I have receipts and service orders. It loses power on load and is very unstable. I have been pulled over several times because of the headlights and turns on when it wants to.

7 Starter problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/16/2016

Car won't start. At first, we thought it's the battery so we got our battery jump starter. But it wasn't the case. Lights and electrical works but the car starter won't turn over. Towed it to the dealer. The following day, went to dealer to check it and the car started without any problem. Dealer's mechanics still hasn't seen it yet that day. There might be some loose wiring or inhibitor switch problem.

8 Starter problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/26/2015

At 16,000 miles car will simply not turn on again. Aaa has done testing of battery, starter, recharging system and battery drain; all passed. Did some research of complaints and this is the beginning of serious, known electrical problems with these cars (driving themselves off the road, catching fire). Called Hyundai and they state no knowledge of any issues. Getting rid of it as soon as possible (after aaa comes back out to get it to turn on again).

9 Starter problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/17/2015

I parked my car at home and shut it off. I immediately attempted to restart it in order to adjust the car's position, and found that the interior lights would come on, but not the engine. 3 dash lights--engine, battery, and I don't remember the third one--remained lit. Took it in to the dealership the following Monday (10/19), and they replaced the starter.

10 Starter problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 09/08/2015

I turn the key and the dashboard lights turn on. The radio turns on also. The problem is the engine doesn't start. There is no noise where you should hear the starter. Just silence.

11 Starter problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/27/2015

This is a problem that has been going on with other Elantra drivers. There are videos on you tube with this issue. The vehicle doesn't start at times and it should be a recall on this issue. This is a new car and should have issues like that. It seems to be a problem with the starter or the ignition switch.

12 Starter problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/15/2015

The car wont start. The battery and starter are fine. It doesn't happen all the time, just periodically, maybe every other day or twice a week. There doesn't seem to be a pattern. The car starts eventually after numerous turns of the key. It doesn't seem to matter if I turn off the lights, radio etc. .

13 Starter problem of the 2014 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 12/23/2014

The starter motor sporadically refuses to crank. It seems jarring the shift lever or towing the vehicle temporarily solves the problem. One trip to the dealership thus far with no repair done.

14 Starter problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 09/09/2014

The vehicle in question periodically fails to start. This has been an ongoing issue with this vehicle for several months. At first the vehicle would not start on occasion but has since began having starting issues more frequently. I contacted my dealer and was told of two possible issues regarding a stop lamp switch and a faulty starter. I brought the vehicle in and they were unable to identify a problem. I contacted Hyundai USA and they were unaware of an issue regarding my specific vehicle as there are no recalls for this specific issue but there are recalls regarding this same issue but with other vehicles. I feel that Hyundai is not standing behind their products with their warranty and I do not know on a daily basis if my vehicle is going to start the next time I attempt it.

15 Starter problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/26/2014

Car will not start. Have battery, alternator, and started all tested and are good. Every so often go to start the car and when you turn the key to first position everything turns on. Windows work, radio works, light on dash turn on. Go to start the car and it does nothing. Does not even try to start the starter makes no noise. You just here a clicking noise. Was told be dealer that it might be inhibitor switch (range switch), that was replaced and a week later it again will not try to start. If you let it sit and come back a day later many time it will crank right over. There are many forums online with the same issue from this model.

16 Starter problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 12/01/2012

I'm writing to notify you of my reoccurring issue on my 2013 Hyundai Elantra. Upon purchasing my vehicle on or about 5,000 miles, my car would have false starts. I brought the issue up during one of my early maintenance visits at danbury Hyundai which was on December 1, 2012, in which they stated to me that they were my headlights. Any individual with common sense knows transmission and starter issues have no correlation to headlights. In any event, my car began not igniting at all on or about 56,000 miles (video footage of this will be provided if needed). Prior to this, it would have false starts occasionally throughout the year but never on a daily basis until recently. I've had my car towed twice in the month of August to danbury Hyundai and both occasions they said there is nothing they can do for me. As you can imagine, having lemon of a car since the purchase is extremely frustrating and I warn everyone around me to never purchase a Hyundai unless you want to pump your gas and wait an hour for your car to start, if that's the kind of reliability you want then go for it. On September 9th, 2015, my car was returned to me and was working properly until yesterday September 16th. Please be advised that at 4:08 p. M. Leaving work my car would not recognize the gears and would not start and at 7:19p. M. The same issue occurred. . Read more...

17 Starter problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

I bought my Hyundai Elantra new in 2011 since owning the vehicle it's been a nightmare and I get very little if any help from the local Hyundai dealer. I have had numerous issues with the vehicle not starting (car is silent when I turn the key in the ignition, car cranks but won't turn over, engine starts but dies, car dies without any reason). I've brought up complaints and concerns to the local dealership but they are never of any help. I recently had to have the starter replaced but it was only replaced because my car one day wouldn't start at all. Since the replacement I am still met with my car not starting at least once a week if not more. Yesterday my sun roof would not close completely, it retracts a few inches from closing, this is not new to me, multiple intermittent electrical issues, such as is occuring now - the sun roof retracting on its own without any visible reason. Or when the gear shift is put in park/reverse, etc. Sunroof will take on a mind of its own. I'm fed up with this lemon of a car and as I see from all the other complaints online about starting issues Hyundai needs to do something about it - figure out the reason why and let us consumers know.
