2 Wiring problem of the 2019 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/28/2019

After having my 2019 Hyundai that I bought brand new my headlights quite switching to high beams and would only run low beam headlights but instead of being bright they were dimmer than what they were suppose to be. I tried to exchange the headlights to see if the bulbs were burnt out and even with brand new bulbs the head lights still wouldn't switch over to high beams and were still very dim with brand new bulbs. Took it to the dealership and they couldn't figure out what the problem was even though I told them there was a burning smell coming from the wiring harness for both headlights and what looked like a relay board for the bright light switch looked burnt up instead of it looking like a shiny new silver board. Then about a week later both headlights went completely out and I couldn't drive at night due to not having any headlights so I replaced the bulbs again and again they gave me a dim light with no high beam lights. So to this day I am still having problems with . My headlights and no one from Hyundai can seem to figure out what's going on on this brand new 2019 Hyundai Elantra se.

5 Wiring problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/14/2018

The vehicle has constant intermittent start up issues where you get a click when trying to start the car. This is very dangerous because of what if the car randomly cuts out while driving? the fact that they chanted the battery size has created concerns of potential fires with the vehicle as the faulty wiring mixed with a battery size that just a year later Hyundai changed could lead to a significant issue. There are thousands of complaints about this issue and the fact Hyundai is charging people hundreds of dollars for "fixes" that within hours of completion are rendered worthless is unacceptable. This issue is widely seen online for this year model but Hyundai refuses to acknowledge. Even spoke to a parts manager from Hyundai and they acknowledged the issue with this model in particular as it was the first of the new body style and that by the 2013 model they had made changes to the battery size and connectors which corrected the issue for future models.

6 Wiring problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 12/08/2017

Brake lights keep burning out and have been changed several times in one year. I was told it is the electrical wiring on the brake lights.

7 Wiring problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/11/2017

While driving car at 50 mph on a county road on 10/11/2017, car shut itself off, I had to coast to the shoulder without power steering or power brakes. Warnings such as antennae disconnect, blind spot detection system warning. When I was able to restart the car I drove to o'brien Hyundai and they were unable to help me as they had no available appointments. Finally able to get a appointment at another dealership gettel 0n 10/21/2017 I have brought the car in 3 times for the same issue, 1st time 10/21/17, found problem with the electrical system, they disabled the bsd system and the wiring harness was ordered. I brought the car in on 10/28/17 to 10/31/17 and the wiring harness was replaced and also the bsd assembly. On 11/3/17, on the way home from work, car stalled again while driving, vehicle warning antenna disconnect, bsd system warning. Bought into service on 11/4/2017, engineer from corporate flown in to check car because they were unable to fix it, replaced bsd system lh and bsd system rh, also a loose pin at f18r. Car was in the dealership until 12/5/17. On 12/20/17 on the way to work, car stalled, electrical went haywire, doors would not unlock, car had to be towed into dealership, wiring assembly-floor had to be replaced. Car was in shop until 12/29/2017. Driving into work 1/2/2018, warning antenna disconnect, I had to turn off bsd system as each previous time the antenna warning was the first warning prior to bds warning & car stalling while driving. Have appointment on 1/8/208 at dealership.

9 Wiring problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/25/2017

The windshield wipers flew off of my car during a rain storm while I was driving. I was told by the place that repaired it that the dealership didn't fasten them on correctly. When I took my car in for an oil change the service technician said he fixed my recall as well - the car never had a recall repair notice ! air conditioner does not work - when service did oil change they tried to tell me it was going to be 415 dollars to fix the air because the discharge hose is leaking. The discharge hose costs 11. 00 on the internet & valvolene instant oil change will refill the freon in your car for less than 140 dollars. The brake lights all have needed replaced consistently every other month - I'm wondering if there is some kind of short in the wiring?.

10 Wiring problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/07/2016

Vehicle was stationary. Check engine light and lack of digital engine temperature gauge alerted driver to issue. Upon inspection at authorized Hyundai service center, it was noted that rodents had gnawed through wiring and connectors located in the engine bay. Per service center's recommendation, vehicle was considered unsafe to drive, and vehicle was left at service center pending appropriate repairs/replacements. It was noted that the wires that were chewed through were coated with soy-based materials instead of plastic which had been used in earlier models. Service center claims to see this issue at least a few times per month. Rodent deterrent tape is being purchased from Honda (who already acknowledges this issue and is current the subject of a class action lawsuit). Tape will be wrapped around wires following repairs.

11 Wiring problem of the 2008 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/16/2016

On 8/16/16 at approximately 1130 hours the aforementioned 2008 Hyundai Elantra bearing a VIN number of kmhdu46d68u458018, had spontaneously caught on fire without cause. Local fire department came to the scene and extinguish the flames suspected it to be a manufacturers defect of possible faulty electrical wiring. I have contacted Hyundai directly and brought to their attention the incident in which occurred on the said date. Hyundai is still in the process of having a third party vehicle inspection company en route to conduct the preliminary investigation. There has only been a recall to my knowledge in 2011 in which I personally took the said vehicle to Hyundai of welsey chapel florida and never had a problem since. It should be noted the vehicle was parked for approximately 3 hours before it caught on fire. I am aware of the past recalls conducted by Hyundai due to the possibility of engine fires and feel as thought my vehicle is one of the vehicles affected my the negligence in the manufacturers end. I urge and plead you to look into this matter as my only means of transportation has been totaled due to the bizarre fire.

The vehicle was towed by the insurance company. The fire department diagnosed the vehicle with failed wires. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

13 Wiring problem of the 2009 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 11/01/2014

I purchased the car in Feb 2012 at 34,214 mi and in 1 yr time, I kept blowing lights. . . Headlights, fog, brake and tail. I put a lot of miles on my car so by the time I became annoyed by it, I just missed my warranty so I let it go. Ffwd to sept 2014, I couldn't keep my tail and brake lights functioning at the same time. After several bulb replacements, it was discovered that it wasn't the bulbs that kept blowing, but rather the fuse. As soon as I turned the lights on, it would pop. Nov 2014 at 118,470 mi, I brought it to a dealership to have them research. . . After 3 days it was discovered that the wires that go around the license plate frame were being pinched by the screws creating a diag short so it was adjusted and I moved on. Jan 2015, same problem!! I took it back to the same dealership and after they tore apart the car again, it was discovered that there was damaged wiring to the r/s plate lamp to the extent that they were melted together and every time the lights were turned on, it would smoke. This is a separate issue that was not seen in Nov. It was repaired so it won't happen again, but that was 3 years of electrical drama that should have been avoided. I still have electrical issues inside the car, but at least my exterior lights work.

14 Wiring problem of the 2007 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/21/2013

My 2007 Hyundai Elantra was supposedly previously a part of Hyundai recall number 092 for brake light switch failure. According to Hyundai customer service this problem was repaired on March 09, 2010. I understand now there is a new recall out there for the same issue. I did not receive any notification of this recall that was issued in April of 2013. So I am assuming that according to Hyundai my vehicle is not a part of this recall. This will be verified with another phone call to Hyundai customer service. . My brake light switch has failed again and I am without brake lights. I find it hard to believe that something as critical and safety oriented as a switch that controls the brake light function of your vehicle could fail twice within a 6 year period. Unless both parts are defective. In fact in my past ownership of many vehicles and also of the vehicles of friends and family members I have never heard of this switch failing once let alone twice! Hyundai is telling me that since the recall was already performed on this car in 2010 (before I purchased the car) that they are not liable for this repair or recall. The campaign id# for the latest recall is 13v113000. It was issued by Hyundai-kia America technical center inc. How am I to be sure that when the car was repaired (if it was repaired properly or at all) in 2010 it was not repaired with the part from the current recall? the vehicle has yet to be repaired and I will be in contact with Hyundai customer service once again. In researching this issue I also learned of problems with the air bag warning light illuminating on the dashboard. Also with the sun visors cracking at their plastic connecting point. Causing the sun visor to fall off and the wiring to be exposed. I have also recently experienced both of these issues.

15 Wiring problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/09/2013

I purchased a 2013 Hyundai Elantra se coupe on 13 April 2013 (6300 miles). On 9 may 2013 (7000 miles) I entered car to start it and battery completely dead. Called Hyundai roadside assistance and they sent someone to jump it. Car started and took it to motorworld wilkes-barre where I had purchased car. They turned car off and waited 5 hours. Car started again and the man in service told me that he could not do anything since the battery was fine and he didn't see any issue. If I wanted battery or sensors replaced, I would have to pay out of pocket for it. I was told if it happened again, have it towed in without letting it be jump started. Only diagnostic done was check of battery which read as no problem. On 26 may 2013, (7400 miles) again I went out to start car and again it would not start. As I could not miss work and it was memorial day with service dept at dealership closed, had car jump started and went to dealership on my lunch break. While there, salesman who sold me car had me turn off the automatic setting for headlamps. When I did that, it also caused the steering wheel controls for blue tooth and radio control to no longer function. I was told there was recall on brake stop switch? that was not apparently corrected before selling me the car. The car has electrical wiring issues. It doesn't take an electrical engineer to know that the steering wheel controls should not be run through the headlamps switch and that the headlamps switch is faulty when it is causing a drain of battery when it is set to shut off lamps when ignition turned off. Tomorrow the 27 may 2013, I will be back at dealership demanding this is repaired or they replace the car as I have owned it approximately 6 weeks and have had this issue 2 times with 7400 total miles on car.

16 Wiring problem of the 2010 Hyundai Elantra

17 Wiring problem of the 2007 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 03/05/2012

Own a 2007 Hyundai Elantra sedan. Have been having issues with the air bag light staying on at all times, for about the past week. Yesterday when I parked the car, I put in neutral pulled up the emergency brake and car filled with smoke had small fire, fire dept was called out to my house no injuries. I was sure to get out of car quickly in case turned out to be huge fire. Not sure what happened getting looked at tomorrow, need it towed car fills up with smoke and you can peek in at the wiring and was a small flame this time. If I turn the key on this happens. Unoperatable, as of now. This really needs to be investigated as people could be getting hurt.

18 Wiring problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 07/08/2011

On 6/27/2011 the car was hard to start then shut off as it was backed out of a parking space. The car would not start for twenty minutes. The dealer test drove the car after it was towed to them and the car almost stalled at highway speed. The dealer could not identify a problem (no error codes) and decided to change the fuel pump. On 7/8/2011 the car shut off while driving through a parking lot and would not restart. The car was towed back to the dealer and after several weeks the dealer thinks the wiring harness and computer are to blame. The dealer has not located a new computer or harness as of 8/01/2011. This Elantra also has had five incidences with the transmission locking in either drive or park. We were told to just stick a screw driver in the front of the transmission console and hit the reset switch. The dealer has made one failed attempt to fix the problem by replacing a brake light switch. The dealer has since replaced the brake light switch for the second time, not sure if it fixed the problem. We only had the car back for a short time.

19 Wiring problem of the 2004 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/15/2010

While driving to florida on i95 using cruise control traffic began to back up in the richmond area so the wife hit the brakes. Car did not disengage but rather sped up to the control setting. Repeatedly hitting the brakes had no effect so we had to manually disengage the unit. The incident was reported to the dealer of purchase as well as to the local Hyundai dealer with no resolution other than to pay for them to hunt down the problem. I was able to find that the problem is related to the disappearance of all brake lights and will temporarily fix itself if I hit the wiring harness in several locations. . It is not due to a faulty brake pedal switch. This was reported back to the dealerships with the same result then to Hyundai USA on Nov 4, 2010 case number [xxx]. Hyundai maintains it is a service issue and not a safety issue and that my only recourse is to pay the dealer to do a diagnostic check. I informed them that if they google Hyundai brake light problems there are many people reporting loss of brake lights who may be unaware that their cruise control may disengage. They have closed the case so I am requesting that this be put on record. Condition still exists after 6 attempts to repair. . Is an intermittent electrical problem in the harness connector I believe. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

23 Wiring problem of the 2007 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 09/28/2009

The incident is liquid that dripped into the emergency brake causing wires to melt for the airbag system. The cup holders are located directly beside the emergency brake. The emergency brake housing, contains the wiring harness for the vehicle. There is no sort of protective device to keep liquids from getting on the wiring. What happened in my instance is that liquid must have dripped off of a cup in the cupholder, not sure how condensation off of a cup, could cause insulated wires to melt, but it dripped into the console area and melted the air bag wiring harness. It requires a complete replacement of the harness. Warranty not covered because it is not a part defect. Safety hazard because it can cause a fire if not fixed. Should have a protective cover in the event of something like this occurring.

24 Wiring problem of the 1999 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/11/2009

My 1999 Hyundai Elantra gl sedan has been experiencing intermittent (but with increasing frequency) low/"idle" speed engine stalling. This presents a dangerous situation when the car stalls at a stoplight or when slowing to turn in a residential neighborhood. Most stalls are occurring at less than 25mph. I have also experienced intermittent "check engine light" episodes during these occurrences. I have taken the car to my mechanic for diagnosis/repair. . . The computer history show maf sensor but no failure. Additionally, the 'check engine light" does not remain "on". I took the car to the local Hyundai dealership after reading recall/service bulletins related to the maf sensor wiring. They also performed the computer diagnostic that indicated maf sensor issues in the computer history. They also informed me that my vehicle is not one of the Hyundai Elantra/sonata VIN codes. I would appreciate some information from you regarding the resolution to this problem. The Hyundai recall/campaign id is 039 and the NHTSA/odf campaign is 00v259001.

25 Wiring problem of the 2007 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/04/2009

Air bag sensor light consistently on in 2007 Hyundai Elantra. Taken to dealership and they reported that the wiring had been shorted out by soft drink spilling into the console from the cup holders and shorting out the wiring harness, disabling the air bags. There are no warning stickers on the console warning of the risk of leakage from the cupholder into the console and no warning to this effect in the owner?s manual. Wiring harness was replaced and owner cautioned by technician and service manager on danger of liquid seeping from cup holder into console and recommended not using console cup holders but ones in back seat instead. Research on the internet resulted in discovery that this exact same problem had resulted in a national highway traffic safety administration recall of the 2001 - 2002 Hyundai Elantras requiring installation of a protective cover to correct the problem. Apparently the problem has not been resolved in the 2007 Elantra and a design flaw still exists such that a minor spill from the cup holder installed on the console can short out the wiring making the airbag inoperable and putting the passengers at risk and resulted in at least one death prior to the earlier recall. . 26 Wiring problem of the 2000 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/07/2009

Fax from congressman dent on behalf of constituent who is requesting assistance in registering a complaint against Hyundai. The check engine light illuminated and a loud noise was heard. The exhaust manifold was replaced due to it being cracked. (the consumer who wrote in, works for the dealership that sold the consumer the vehicle. The dealership didn't charge the consumer for the repairs, however the dealership is requesting reimbursement from Hyundai).

27 Wiring problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 03/17/2009

February 2009 I received a recall notice pertaining to my Hyundai Elantra 2002-the electrical wiring under the drivers seat having something to do with the airbag deployment. I took my car in and they did the recall work and no problem. Next morning, I go out to my car and turn the key and it is dead!!! nothing !!! so I gave it the all or nothing jiggle of this that and the other thing-and alas! it started. I brushed it off as a fluke-this has now happened four times within a month and today it is still sitting where I parked it this morning. I called the Hyundai dealer twice today just to pick his brains and give me some idea as to what it might be causing this-the battery is new, tried jumping it earlier today. The shifter does not seem like it wants to move at all even depressing the brake pedal-the mechanic suggested it might be the electronic switch for the shifter-this made sense since the wiring correction is located in the same general area. Perhaps others are experiencing this same thing.

28 Wiring problem of the 1999 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/09/2009

Compaign id 00v259001 is for low speed stalling on 1999 Hyundai Elantra models with certain VIN numbers and relates to the wiring with the mass air flow censor. I have a 1999 Hyundai Elantra that is having the exact same problem but does not fit within the VIN range so they are not covering it. I feel this campaign should be expanded further to cover all of these models with the same problem.

29 Wiring problem of the 2001 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/01/2008

The contact owns a 2001 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that the instrument panel indicators were constantly blinking. She was unable to drive the vehicle at night because the fog lights blink as well. The vehicle was taken to the dealer sixteen times and they stated that open wiring at the instrument panel wiring harness was the cause of the failure. The dealer performed a wiring repair in the instrument panel wiring harness, but the failure persists. A report was filed with the manufacturer and advised her to take the vehicle back to the dealer. The contact stated that she would take the vehicle to another dealer. The failure mileage was 55,456 and current mileage was 170,000.

30 Wiring problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/05/2007

While driving in the rain the door light and door chime came on for no reason. Went into the ditch trying to find what was happening. Every time I washed the car or drove in the rain the same things happened . Had to disconnect the battery and wait a day or two until something dried. Heard that Hyundai had a manufacturing flaw in that they have not sealed the pillar and fender area ,thus water just ran to the electrical wiring. It shorted out the battery, which I had to replace ,and could not drive in the rain or wash the car.

31 Wiring problem of the 2000 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 09/26/2006

33 Wiring problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 07/30/2005

I have replaced the headlights and/or flood lights 7 times, within the last 3 years. I've questioned the service representative repeatedly, believing there was a short in the car. Finally, the last service representative admitted that there was a defect particular to this make and model car. I've researched to see if there was a recall, as I believed this was a severe safety hazard. If this was a common occurrence to this car what guarantee was there that both headlights won't go out at the same time. Found several references to other owners having similar problems with the electrical system. I have found information of a recall.

34 Wiring problem of the 2000 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/01/2005

: the contact stated the vehicle had recall work (00v259001) performed which caused electrical problems and intermittent stalls. The recall work was performed at about 60000 miles and the problems started at about 76000 miles.

35 Wiring problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/09/2005

2002 Elantra has been blowing bulbs since the car was 2wks. I have replaced all bulbs in the car appox. 40times. Hyundai has replaced bulbs and now even charges me for bulbs I have been fighting this for 3 years now. Hyundai says there is no short. Meanwhile my trunk alarm has never worked. Manfrediy where I bought the car new said the factory installed alarm does not alarm the trunk. Guiffre Hyundai said the trunk was alarmed and just doesnt work. Give me a break, it doesnt take a rocket scientist to know that there is a damn short in the car. The regional office did nothing and did not even meet with me. I was told to call an arbitation comp. More time lost I ssent them 350. 00 in bills that I paid on the out side to replace bulbs and thats not counting the bulbs that Hyundai had the nerve to charge me. Now today I get a letter that my car is too old to go through arbitration. Hyundai just jerked me around and I will be stuck with the bills and continue to pay for bulbs. I cant think of anything else to do except go to the media. If you have any help you can give me. I would greatly appreciate it. Hyundai also expected me to make an appointment everytime a bulb or bulbs blew. They would have had the car more than me if that was the case. They have insulted my intelligence. And have lost me for a future customer. And the problem is, I really love my car and the way it drives. If only it would not keep shorting out.
