1. Daughter driving car on highway when electrical components such as radio, door locks and interior lights stopped working and door chime rang continuously. On Jan 22, 2005 she started car, driver's side rear window went down by itself and electrical windows and other interior electrical components stopped working. An acrid burning smell then developed as well as wisps of smoke from the door and dash. 2. As a result, and due to safety concerns about possible fire and damage to vehicle, the car was undriveable and had to be towed to repair shop. Overriding concern was that possibility of fire and further damage existed. 3. Inspection and investigation by repair shop indicated that the main electrical harnesses running through both front doors were corroded, shorting out and one had evidence of scoring and melting. Further investigation revealed that the manufacturer, Hyundai, had a technical service bulletin, #03-90-009 (which superseded #01-90-004) that addressed the condition that water could get up into the area of the wiring harnesses and cause corrosion and shorts. Repair required replacement of four wiring harnesses, two on each side, and sealing the area in the car structure where the water could enter in the first place. Repair completed per the manufacturer's TSB. The old wiring harnesses were kept by owner.

Air bag warning light, on dashboard, continues to remain illuminated. The paramus Hyundai dealer has supposedly repaired this problem 4+ times. I was told that while this warning light is on, the airbags would not deploy in the event of an accident. Abl. Pco.
(1) on December 20,2004, the first cold day of the year, my 1999 Elantra would not start. (2) the next day, December 21, 2004, the car started, but as I would come to a stop at a traffic light, the engine would begin to shake violently and the car would stall out. This also occurred while traveling at speeds under 20 mph. (3) I drove directly to my Hyundai dealership which assessed the car and told me the mass airflow sensor had gone bad and needed to be replaced, which was not covered under my warranty. The part was replaced that afternoon at 275. 00 plus labor= 391. 00. This evening, December 23,2004 after searching the NHTSA website, I realized that the 1999 Hyundai Elantra had been recalled on sept 7, 2000 (NHTSA campaign # 00v259001/Hyundai recall # 040. ) I immediately contacted Hyundai consumer complaint division and was told my a representative that my vehicle VIN # was not one of those included in the recall campaign because it had been manufactured on may 24, 1999 and the campaign only included 1999 Elantras manufactured between June 1, 1999-June 6, 2000. I find it extremely hard to believe that a 7 day period between the date my car was manufactured and the date the recall began should be the reason why this costly repair would not be covered. I am looking to have this complaint investigated, and be reimbursed for the cost of parts/labor for this defect, which Hyundai will not allow.

Airbag light keeps turning on. On March 4, 2004 my car was serviced by Hyundai for this problem. The service rep. Told me that the wires that run under the seat have a tendency to become disconnected. This past week, I moved the seat forward to vaccum the interior and the aribag light is back on. I moved the seat back and the light turns off. Also, the same issue seems to be causing an electrical short circuit in the radio's wiring as the radio no longer works. Abl. Pco.
I had to replace thermostat/radaitor/spark plugs/wires, and oil change in novemeber, costing $800, the following month I had to put a new engine in my car, costing $6000. My car is still in the 10year 100,000mile warranty, and the Hyundai dealership has had my car over 3months.
Everytime vehicle has been started engine check light would come on and remain during duration of driving. Been in contact with dealership, and was informed a ground wire in chassis was causing the problem.
Intermittently / but frequently, vehicle stalls, usually at a stop position and continually while traveling at a low speed of 25 mph or less. Vehicle has been in dealer shop on four occasions, and problem still occurring. Took vehicle back to dealer shop for fifth time. Consumer received recall 00v259001 and dealer replaced the mass air flow sensor even though vehicle had not experienced stalling, a little over a year later, vehicle began stalling and dealer replaced the air flow meter which did not correct the problem, dealer then replaced the throttle position sensor which also did not correct the problem, consumer traded in vehicle because stalling could not be fixed.
Consumer was inside of a parking lot traveling speed of 10mph and she approached a stop sign, was going into next intersection. She proceeded forward, and vehicle stalled. She was halfway through the street and another vehicle veered into her because of stalling. Dealership was aware of problem.

Vehicle is a part of recall 00v259001, engine stalling. Dealer does not have parts to repair recall in stock. Consumer has been waiting since November of 2000. Consumer states finally, after 10 calls to the service facility, the parts were received and installed on April 24 2001.
The contact owns a 2000 Hyundai Elantra. The contact's vehicle was repaired according to NHTSA campaign id number 00v259001 (electrical system:wiring). The contact was unaware of the repair. Several months after the repair was made, the vehicle lost power while driving various speeds and caused him to decelerate. The vehicle also lost power steering ability, and eventually the vehicle would stall. The contact has to place the vehicle into neutral and then restart it in order for it to be functional. He took the vehicle to the dealer on numerous occasions, but the failure could not be duplicated. Over the past several years, the dealer repeatedly replaced the crankshaft position sensors and power relay. Secondly, because the vehicle was previously repaired according to the recall, the dealer would not assume financial responsibility for the repair. The contact called the manufacturer and is waiting for their response. As of July 18, 2008, the contact has not received any assistance. The failure mileage was 10,000 and current mileage was 108,000.
The contact owns a 2000 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that the vehicle would stall sporadically without warning. The vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign id number: 00v259001 (electrical system: wiring) but the failure persisted. The vehicle continued to stall without warning while driving at any speed. The vehicle was taken to two local repair shops for diagnostic testing but no failure codes were produced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer took a complaint and advised to the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer to be diagnosed. The failure and current mileage was 113,000.
