3 Power Train problem of the 2012 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 07/28/2024

During normal driving conditions, the 8 speed automatic transmission will randomly hesitate to upshift from 2nd to 3rd and from 4th to 5th, causing an unpredictable loss of power. Symptoms will show up intermittently, and do not seem to be caused by certain events. This is unsafe because the unpredictability of the problem could cause power loss during moments where acceleration is needed to avoid an accident (moments which would otherwise be completely safe, I. E. Merging onto a freeway, turning across incoming traffic, right turns into the direction of traffic, etc. ) this problem already has a TSB issued by Hyundai. Problem has been reproduce by a technician. Component has been checked by a technician. There are no warning lights or other symptoms before failure.

4 Power Train problem of the 2016 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 07/23/2024

On [xxx], after driving on a rainy day (with a flood warning reported by nws), I noticed a strong burning smell in the garage the next day, and my car wouldn’t start. Unable to get it running, I had it towed to a nearby repair shop, where they found burn marks on the starter and starter harness. The repair costs were significant, so I filed a claim with my insurance under my comprehensive coverage. The following day, the insurance adjuster informed me that Hyundai had issued a recall (recall 254, 24v 107000) related to my issue and advised me to take the vehicle to Hyundai for repair. I had the car towed to the Hyundai dealer in cumming. However, after diagnosing the vehicle, Hyundai of cumming stated that it was not subject to the recall. I believe this incident is clearly part of the recall, as shown in the attached photos from the local repair shop. Since Hyundai of cumming claimed it wasn’t covered, my insurance company requested a detailed explanation and additional photos, but Hyundai of cumming has been unresponsive for over a month. I reached out to Hyundai motor USA, but they simply provided the same information as Hyundai of cumming, without any investigation. During this process, I incurred nearly $1,000 for a rental car, which was a significant expense for me. Two months after the incident, Hyundai of cumming offered me two options: a) pay out of pocket for repairs, or b) remove the vehicle from their shop. Since the car wouldn’t start, I had no choice but to pay for the repairs. I finally got my vehicle back on October 19, 2024, three months after the incident, with total costs around $6,000, including the rental. I still don’t understand why Hyundai of cumming believes this burned starter solenoid incident is not part of the recall. As a typical customer, I feel powerless against this large corporation, despite knowing this issue should be covered. If you need anything else from me, please feel free to reach out anytime. Thank you information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act.

8 Power Train problem of the 2013 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 06/04/2023

Each time service was required my car had suddenly stopped running without any acceleration. The start engine button would not work. Each time car was towed to serra Hyundai. At no time, was there any mentioning of needing a new engine or engine replacement. The service dates: 01/05/2023, 01/14/2023, and 04/14/2023. My last non acceleration occurred on night of June 4, 2023. It could have been tragic. I was accelerating to get on freeway heard a loud noise like something fell from up under car then vehicle just stopped and would not accelerate leaving me stranded and cars having to go around me. This could have been a terrible accident. I had car towed to serra Hyundai. The services being quoted to me is a new engine with estimated cost $7900. I cannot afford that amount and I’m now without a car. However because I have kept maintenance program up on my car the service department submitted pa101761. Unfortunately, it was declined because warranty has expired. In more research, there has been a recall on 2013-2015 Genesis coupe for the powertrain, engine and suspension. Therefore, Hyundai is fully aware there is an engine issue. The national highway transportation and safety administration (NHTSA) has 149 complaints with the same engine powertrain issues. Nhtsa id# 11435981 dated October 8, 2021 had the exact same issues with vehicle and experience(s) as myself. Hyundai has issued a recall. Recall 135, NHTSA campaign # 15v756000 and technical service bulletin(tsa)#15-01-054. In my opinion, everything described in this recall and every issue I have is outlined in this campaign. I’m being told my car VIN was not included. There have been several complaints over the years for same issue this cannot be coincidental. A recall should be issued for automatic 2013-15 Genesis coupe to include my VIN#. Most vehicles are at or approaching 10 years and warranty expired. I currently can’t afford new car and on fixed income, or $7900 new engine on 180,000 mile car.

9 Power Train problem of the 2015 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 05/01/2023

There are multiple problem points with this vehicle that become apparent far earlier than they should including but not limited to 1: starter motor complete failure at 70k miles (affects every single 3. 8 2015-2017 Genesis sedan) 2: sunroof front panel seal degradation 3: shuddering driveshaft early into new ownership (also afflicts most of these vehicles) 4: brake booster and master cylinder sudden complete failure 5: oil pressure sensor improper calibration all of these issues have been checked by multiple service centers at Hyundai/genesis dealers, all of them confirming reluctantly that these issues affect all Genesis models similar to mine. The braking issue is the worst, happens suddenly and at a random point in time, and costs thousands to fix. The starter motor failure is very common, and every dealer kept forcing me to replace meaningless parts until the car would no longer start and then they admitted it needed a new starter. The front panel between the sunroof and the windshield has rapidly degrading rubber seals, which will loudly shake and move around while driving. The driveshaft will shudder when the vehicle is cold and it’s sub 80° outside, even if the engine has warmed to operating temp. The oil pressure sensor rapidly breaks just months after the car is brand new, with it on average reading a much lower oil pressure than is actually being applied. All of these issues have been replicated, and only the faulty oil pressure sensor had a warning light, no light for the faulty brakes, starter, or driveshaft issues. The more I research into Genesis, the more I realize that these issues happen just a couple thousand miles after new, and affect every single Genesis model similar to mine.

10 Power Train problem of the 2015 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 04/10/2023

When driving at the speed of 20 - 25 mph the car feels like its skipping or struggling to shifting into the next higher gear. Then all of a sudden it feels like someone rams into the back of us. Then the car will not shift into the next. I took the car into coconut creek automotive llc. The car just sat there for almost 3 months. They tell me that they could not duplicate the problem. I spoke with a service rep that told me he felt the problem. The manager said to me that the car had to be driven and the problem displayed 5 out of 10 times. My car was there for almost 3 months and only drove 12 miles.

11 Power Train problem of the 2015 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 02/16/2023

Got oil changed at Genesis dealership at 79k miles. Within a day, low oil pressure light began to turn on and off sporadically. Usually showing up when idling and turning off while accelerating. Took car back to dealership and they identified a faulty oil switch (which appears to require a significant amount of labor to access/replace). This has already been recalled in korea as it has been happening to many vehicles around the 60-70k mile mark and it is a major safety issue (people driving with a faulty sensor may get complacent on urgency if the warning light). I sincerely hope Hyundai/genesis USA issues a recall for the faulty oil pressure switch issue and this most definitely should be covered under the 100k miles powertrain warranty.

12 Power Train problem of the 2012 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 01/21/2023

The contact 2012 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated while driving 25-30 mph, the vehicle stalled inadvertently. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road. The contact was able to restart the vehicle, and continued driving. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving. The vehicle was taken to an unknown local dealer, and to an independent mechanic; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

13 Power Train problem of the 2016 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 06/01/2022

About 5-6 months ago, when turning left or right, the steering wheel started essentially locking in that position, and I have to yank it back to center. It will not self-center. The dealer was not able to fix it, and it's a very dangerous car to drive now. I will not let any other members of my family drive it. Also, I've had a severe drivetrain vibration for about a year, and over $7,000 was spent on a new driveshaft and transfer case. It is now worse than it was and the dealer doesn't know what to do. Even with only 34,000 miles on the car, it is out of warranty, and Hyundai doesn't seem to care. I have installed brand new tires hoping that it might help both situations, but it didn't. I'm just at my wit's end now. I guess I will just have to park the car. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

14 Power Train problem of the 2013 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 06/01/2022

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Genesis coupe. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, a whining noise was heard while depressing the accelerator pedal. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was then taken to a local dealer, where it was repaired under technical service bulletin #15-01-054 for rear differential inspection; however, the contact stated that the failure recurred and that while he was stopped at a stop signal, the vehicle lost motive power, and he noticed that the driveshaft had become detached. The vehicle was inoperable and was first towed to the residence and then back to the local dealer. The vehicle remained at the dealer awaiting further diagnostic and repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

15 Power Train problem of the 2015 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 04/01/2022

Transmission at low speeds going into the 1st gear has a hard pull. Rmps jumps from 2to4 and back down until it reaches 2nd gear and it doing it again. After that it's smooth. Only way to avoid this is drive fast. Other Genesis owner has the same issues. They say to change the transmission fluid but it will eventually do it again. It makes alot of people that drive my car really scared.

16 Power Train problem of the 2013 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 12/11/2021

Last December, 12/11/2021, my son and I traveled from pittsburgh PA to columbus ohio so he could buy a used car from a dealer. It was a 2013 Hyundai Genesis coupe. We spent a few hours at the dealership, I CO-signed for him, and he drove back the Hyundai while I drove my own car. Nothing was disclosed to us that we would have questioned. After a few weeks or so of driving the car, a mechanic looked at his car and told us it had been modified. I asked someone who had the same car/year/model and he confirmed this. This modification is significant, in the drive train/engine/under the hood/exhaust rather than something visual, on the outside of the car. It not only sounds far too loud as compared to the exact same year/model but drives differently. The mechanic pointed out the modifications under the hood and told us it should have been obvious to the dealer. I even googled photos of what stock engines look like and mine is definitely different. So, my son never registered the car in PA, as he wasn't sure what to do with it. He drove it for a few months for roughly 5000 miles as he had no other forms of transportation. He's been using my car instead. We can't pay for a car that just sits. It’s still registered with the dealer. The car has just been sitting because we're not sure how safe it is. One of the modifications that wasn't disclosed was a performance kind of muffler/exhaust. It is so loud that the driver can't hear sirens and horns. Also, we didn't know who installed these items. The driver could be exposed to dangerous fumes. We tried working with the dealer to no avail. At this point, we'd just like to return the car and get our money back that we paid the bank.

17 Power Train problem of the 2014 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 11/25/2021

There are literally hundreds if not thousands of people with Hyundai vehicles with the 3. 8 engine from 2010-2016 with blown engines because of rod bearing failures with anywhere from as low as 60,000 miles to 150,000 miles. How many have to fail and leave people stranded before somebody does something about it. My card engine failed at 116,000 and has been at the dealership a month already and their not doing shit about it to fix it. It'll cost me and everyone else thousands of dollars. These 3. 8 engines are just as likely to fail as all the Hyundai 2. 0 engines that are currently being recalled. Somebody need LS to do something about it cuz I'd say there will be a lawsuit coming for Hyundai in the near future.

18 Power Train problem of the 2011 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 04/13/2021

While driving on the highway at 65mph the driver front tire wables, the tires feel unsafe and not stable. When going over long road cracks on the highway the whole car wabbles and if I dont grab the stearing wheel really hard to not loose control of the vehicle. 21 Power Train problem of the 2015 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 01/01/2021

I took my car to south shore Hyundai sometime in may 2023 to find it has internal transmission failure at 107,500 miles and a new transmission would cost $6,200 and change. This transmission issue has been gradually getting worse since around 87,000 miles when I did a computer reset to attempt to resolve it. The issue didn’t show up on a computer and it wasn’t an everyday issue at 87k but now it’s an everyday issue and concern while driving. I also believe I had the transmission examined at around 97k by allowing advantage Hyundai service in hicksville NY to test drive the car for over a day and they found nothing. I was hoping to fix the transmission under the 100k mile powertrain warranty promised to me by my salesman but not executed on paper as I was an inexperienced buyer and was taken advantage of. About 1 year after I bought the car the drivers heated seat stopped working and would cost me about $2,500 to fix which I never paid for. Absolutely loved the car but it costed me so much in repairs over the years and the transmission failure has me so upset. I wish I could get it replaced as I still owe $ and can not afford a new car not even an old car for $5000 yet.

22 Power Train problem of the 2010 Hyundai Genesis

When leaving, my car again would not shift into drive and I noticed that the "check engine light came on. I tried stopping and starting a few times. The car would not shift to drive. 24 Power Train problem of the 2015 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 09/05/2020

Vehicle would not shift up to the next gear and and started attempting to shift but failing every time as it passed 2000 rpms.
