36 Power Train problem of the 2015 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 03/23/2019

Vehicle will shift harshly/jerk at low speeds (most common after accelerating from a stop as well as in stop and go traffic). Vehicle takes longer to change gears (rpms hang then drop). Down-shifting seems to be an issue as well; delayed down-shift as the vehicle is coming to a stop . Behavior started around 75,000 miles. Transmission also acts as if it is slipping and then suddenly engages, just as if it was in neutral momentarily and then dropped into gear. I would characterize this unpredictable lurching behavior (a result of the harsh up- and down-shifts) as a safety issue.

37 Power Train problem of the 2015 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 03/03/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Genesis. While driving and making a turn, the steering wheel seized without warning. The vehicle was turned off and restarted, but the failure recurred. In addition, when the vehicle was shifted into drive, the instrument panel display reversed and the vehicle moved backwards instead of forward. The vehicle was towed to napleton Hyundai glenview (located at 1620 waukegan rd, glenview, IL 60025, (847) 729-8900) to be diagnosed, but a failure code could not be located. The dealer suggested that the gear shifter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 15620163. The approximate failure mileage was 42,000.

38 Power Train problem of the 2012 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 01/03/2019

Hello, my 2012 Genesis sedan 5. 0l r-spec only has 33k miles on it and I bought it at 21k. I am the 2nd owner and therefore technically outside of warranty, I know this. However, my Genesis' transmission has been experiencing rough and occasional slipping shifts every time I drive it. Through research amongst other owners of the same make and model, I have discovered that this issue is quite common in this model year car and that Hyundai has already replaced hundreds if not thousands of these faulty transmissions. When this occurs, it indicates a flaw in the manufacturer's design and I believe Hyundai should take responsibility for that fact and repair or replace the parts under warranty or goodwill if outside of warranty. This problem could cause major damage to the car or myself when driving if it decides to suddenly slip when I am making a turn with oncoming traffic on the way. This makes me feel very unsafe when driving my car. Specifically, the problem occurs mostly shifting between gears 2&3, 4&5 as well as 5&6 and usually slips rpms a little from 6 to 7 or 7 to 8. The shifts, when not slipping, will be rough and abrupt. I wouldn't describe it as slamming into gear, but rather a jolt that can be felt in the seat and just isn't as smooth as other gears. I also experience issues when shifting from park to drive, drive to park, park to reverse, reverse to park, or any combination of the described shifts will create a rough clunk when the gear engages. You can also feel a thud when kicking down the accelerator to pass a vehicle as it downshifts through gears. All of these symptoms on top of a fluid change producing no positive results indicate a problem with the transmission at 33k miles.

39 Power Train problem of the 2012 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 12/20/2018

According to Hyundai dealer, nothing wrong with transmission, they are unable to "duplicate the issue" I am experiencing, delayed shifting, high rpms, engine revs, and violently knocks into gear, runs normal for a few days and then back to the bullshit! also experiencing an issue when putting gas in the car, gas pump abruptly stops as if tank is full when it is not. We need a recall!.

40 Power Train problem of the 2016 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 12/05/2018

If I do not fill the auto with a premium blend gasoline the car will inconsistently over rev and jerk into gear if I accelerate somewhat suddenly. This response is quite odd and could cause an accident since the car kicks into gear rather hard after accelerating and then letting off the gas. The sensation is the same as experiencing a light but loud rear end collision from behind. The car is luxurious and big therefore, you wouldn't expect this type jolting from the drive train.

41 Power Train problem of the 2012 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 11/02/2018

Accelerating from 0 though 30 miles per hour car pulls and makes a big noise. Passengers feel like we where hit from behind. Other times refuses to accelerate. To engage. Problem occurs on city and traffic. Once on highway, car runs well. Car has been in the Hyundai dealer since November 2,2018. Hyundai has been running test after test after test and are not honoring the power train warranty and will not give me a loaner. I established a case with Hyundai USA #12341664 to no avail. Still not fixing the car. Keep running test after test after test. Need help !.

42 Power Train problem of the 2013 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 09/10/2018

43 Power Train problem of the 2009 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

2009 Hyundai Genesis 3. 8 4d sedan with 55000 miles. Lately, my car dash will blink "p" which is a notification for transmission is on parked even the shifter is in a different mode. This happens randomly and I am worried hope don't lockup transmission during the high speed. I have recorded a video of this scenario if asked. Btw this happens in both in motion or in stationary mode.

44 Power Train problem of the 2010 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 07/31/2018

I feel like the transition on this car is a safety hazard. It locks you out of second gear at high rpms which could be dangerous in some situations. Also from 5th and 6th gear grind and are hard to actuate. A lot of people are having this problem.

Failure Date: 07/15/2018

The contact owns a 2009 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to coast to the shoulder of the road however, the vehicle failed to restart. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the ecm. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred five additional times. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but was unable to provide any assistance. The failure mileage was 109,000.

46 Power Train problem of the 2015 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 07/11/2018

Tl- the contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked. The shifter failed to move out of gear. In addition, the contact stated that when switching gears, all warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for a diagnostic testing of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was one repaired of NHTSA campaign number:15v097000 (electrical system, power train, exterior lighting) but the repair did not correct the failure. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and open a case number: 11669773. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000. Aw.

47 Power Train problem of the 2012 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 06/27/2018

Sometime the transmission shift very hard while driving,it has a wild unexpected jerk.

48 Power Train problem of the 2013 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 06/17/2018

When stopped at the traffic lights on a city street, the engine stalled for no reason. All lights came on. I had to put the gear in neutral and start the car again. This is at least the fifth time it happened. Previous filed odi number 10606872 and 10746269. Weather condition: above 75 degrees.

49 Power Train problem of the 2012 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 02/02/2018

Our 2012 Genesis 4. 6l v-8 with the 8 speed automatic transmission has an intermittent problem with the transmission. The transmission will at times and w/o warning shift harshly during up-shifts even at low motor speeds which can cause the car to lurch unpredictably, this behavior is very concerning particularly during turns on city streets or in slow stop and go traffic conditions. This behavior started at about 70,000 miles and now is at 79,000 mile. Initially this problem was very intermittent and would happen whether the car was hot or cold. Now this problem can occur for a few days at a time then suddenly start shifting normally for a few days then return to the harsh shifting problem. The transmission also intermittently has a down shifting issue where it doesn't seem to know when to downshift and will, as an example, delay the down shift as your slowing to stop at a red traffic light remaining in one of the higher gears then suddenly downshift into second or first gear when your nearly stopped. As you proceed following the traffic light change the transmission may shift normally or shift harshly through the next few gears or all of them. The transmission just recently has just started a new shifting problem in that it intermittently acts like it is slipping and then suddenly engages, just as if it were in neutral momentarily and then dropped into gear. The Genesis has been to three Hyundai dealers for the harsh shifting and delayed downshift issues without resolution. I would characterize the unpredictable " lurching behavior" ( a result of the harsh up-shifts) as a safety issue and to a lesser degree the delayed rough down-shifts unless of course the "bad" downshift occurs on a wet or icy pavement with the Genesis being a rear-wheel drive vehicle of course.

50 Power Train problem of the 2013 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 01/15/2018

Loss of power upon accelerating when changing lanes approaching interstate speed.

51 Power Train problem of the 2012 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 07/17/2017

While driving home, the car ac started blowing hot and the dash panel lit up, the engine turned itself off and I coasted to the side of the road. After stopping, I pressed on the brakes and pushed the start button and the car started right up and I drove home, no further problems. This was on a las vegas city street. This is the 6th time this has happened in less than a year, twice it was on the freeway! we just picked up the car from the dealership on Friday, today is Monday, they claimed that they couldn't duplicate the problem, but didn't know that I had documented the mileage and they did not even test drive the vehicle!.

53 Power Train problem of the 2015 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 06/02/2017

On June 2, 2017, I was attempting to park my vehicle in a parking stall at a minimum speed of 5-8 mph. Suddenly, the engine revved up, instrument panel flashed and radio changed stations. When trying to brake the car, the brakes did not engage and I subsequently hit a wall. The airbags did not deploy. When the ealer came to get the car, the individual picking up the car indicated something was wrong with the breaking mechanism. However, the dealer and manufacturer says nothing was wrong with the car but won't provide the details of the report.

54 Power Train problem of the 2011 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 05/26/2017

Car has a manual 6 speed transmission which had been replaced twice (once under warranty for 5th gear grind @ 45k miles and again after factory warranty expired with < 30k on new transmission). I had to pay over $2k out of pocket for a new transmission as Hyundai would not warranty it. The 6spd manual transmission is an extremely common defect for all Genesis coupe models, with many owners needing to replace it more than once and Hyundai will not do anything about it.

55 Power Train problem of the 2015 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 05/25/2017

This is an ongoing safety issue that I've tried to get the dealership to address. From a stop or slow idle, the engine exhibits acceleration hesitation. This hesitation lasts up to 2 seconds and when trying to merge into traffic has nearly resulted in accidents numerous times. I believe a Hyundai whistle-blower came forward recently to expose this ongoing issue but Hyundai has yet to address it.

56 Power Train problem of the 2015 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 05/22/2017

I was driving and car shut off engine itself and get unresponsive in traffic. I push brake and put car in parking then I push start bottom and continue driving. The car is just 11264. I want to know if Hyundai is going to recall this car because a friend of mine have same car and happen same thing.

57 Power Train problem of the 2016 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 05/11/2017

Changed lanes at 30 to 40 mph in a residential area, removed foot from gas pedal, heard engine revving high then within one to two seconds I felt and heard a hard bang and heavy push. Thought someone hit me, but no one did. Car startled me and my wife. It felt like the engine disconnected from the transmission, then reengaged, which gave the sudden outcome. This has been three weeks and no further incident. I could only imagine if this happened on a high way or at a critical point of driving. I think it can be a safety concern.

58 Power Train problem of the 2016 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 05/02/2017

The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Genesis. While driving, the vehicle lost power. The contact was able to maneuver the vehicle off the road onto the shoulder. The vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed on an incline. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer (chapman Hyundai scottsdale, 6601 e mcdowell rd #3, scottsdale, az 85257, 480-949-7600), but the failure could not be duplicated. The dealer informed the contact to bring the vehicle back if the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified and the contact was provided case number: 10243115. The approximate failure mileage was 63,000.

59 Power Train problem of the 2014 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 04/21/2017

Faulty synchros - 6 speed manual transmission. Shifting into 3rd or 4th gear results in a grind 9/10 times. The original transmission has already been replaced once and the brand new oem transmission is having the same symptoms only 12 miles later!.

60 Power Train problem of the 2010 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 04/10/2017

I bought the car used with 32,500 miles. From day 1 there was a grind going into 5th gear. This was a known problem, but no TSB or recall was ever sent out about it. Just a TSB to change the fluid . At 82,000 miles the 5th gear synchro broke. I had to buy a used transmission from the junk yard and had it installed for $820 total including the transmission, labor and fluid. Why would they claim they have a 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty, when it only covers the first owner. And why would they know about the 5th gear grind and not do anything about it.

61 Power Train problem of the 2015 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 02/07/2017

While in park my car shifts in reverse, the gear does not visibly go in the reverse position but the car starts rolling in reverse. You can feel this happen. Also while at a stop light I felt the car jerk I had my foot on break. Also can smell moisture even when windows are closed.

62 Power Train problem of the 2015 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 02/03/2017

The vehicle briefly shut down on its own for no apparent reason while in motion at rate of 25mph at nighttime, the vehicle turned back on a second later as if nothing happened. The cause of the shut down is unknown and could have caused an accident had I not been on an empty road. While the vehicle was off, I had no control over power steering or accelerating, the entire vehicle became unresponsive with the both the entire instrument panel and exterior lights off.

63 Power Train problem of the 2015 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 01/08/2017

Same issue as many others. Driving at a medium speed & all of a sudden the rpm's race up & when the transmission shifts in it bangs violently like either someone hit you or you hit a really deep pothole. Whenever I take it in for maintenance I ask them if they've heard anything about the issue & it's always no. And since we can't reproduce the issue on the fly there's nothing to look at. If Hyundai doesn't come up with an answer soon I'm going to dump it, it's potentially dangerous when it leaps forward.

64 Power Train problem of the 2011 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 08/28/2016

I recently purchased this car with only 35000 miles on it, and the 5th gear had already been grinding. Absolutely ridiculous for a 2011 car to have tranny issues that early on. I then took it to Hyundai to get it replaced under warranty and they replaced it. But there are 100s of pages of forums that have the same issue, now with only 43000 miles I can feel 5th starting to grind on upshifts again. . . I dont know what to do because I dont want to replace a transmission every year.

65 Power Train problem of the 2012 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 08/21/2016

When driving at slower speeds (<30) on a city street, while driving straight, as I lifted my foot off the gas pedal, the car continued to accelerate. Pressing the brake slowed it but did not stop the problem. I pulled the car over and put it in park. When placed in park, the engine revved loudly. I pressed the button to turn the ignition off. This has happened 3 separate times. Once in July and 2 times on August 21.

66 Power Train problem of the 2012 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

Clutch burnt out at 26,000 miles. After researching I noticed 2000+ posts on following website which shows that many Genesis coupes have problems with manual transmissions. I did not drive my car rough or do anything besides safe driving. The clutch is abnormally expensive as well - $4000 repair for a car which is barely valued at $10k. I only drove 26k miles in 5+ years!.

67 Power Train problem of the 2011 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 05/01/2016

When accelerating while turning a corner the engine loses power completely. In a heavy traffic situation this has caused near accidents and oncoming drivers to slam on the brakes. Vehicle begins at a dead stop. 1/2 way thru the turn there is always a complete loss of power and car stalls for several seconds until power returns. This happens every time while accelerating around a corner. Scary.

68 Power Train problem of the 2012 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 01/08/2016

The car will not start when the temp outside is ~40 degrees f or lower outside. It will crank non stop (push button start) but won't ever start. Car battery is only two months old. Cranks fine when the outside temp raises back up to around 45 degrees f and up. While driving today on the interstate, on the bridge, the car randomly lost all engine power. Trying to step on the gas pedal would result in the car studdering. I turned on the emergency signal and just cruised into the side lane out of traffic. Turned the car off and on and noticed the rpm idled at 1500 rpm which is insanely high. I put it in 1st gear and gave it gas, and nothing happened. The rpm meter wouldn't go up. After a few more times of cutting the engine on and off and the engine wouldn't start a few times also, it finally started and seemed to work normally. Now the car has a check engine light on.

69 Power Train problem of the 2012 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 11/22/2015

Had the transmission replaced at 57xxx due to faulty syncronizers inside the transmission. Now 14000 miles later it needs replaced again but is not covered this time. I am not the only personnto have this problem as it is rather common.

70 Power Train problem of the 2009 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 10/17/2015

Tl - the contact stated that he purchased a 2009 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated while driving at approximately 75 mph, the traffic began to slow when depressing the brake heard an abnormal noise and the brake pedal felt stiff. The vehicle slowed down to thirty mph, when pressing the accelerator pedal the vehicle would not accelerate. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact proceeded to pull over to the right shoulder and called roadside service. The vehicle was turned off and restarted the electronic stabilty control light iluminated the vehicle restarted the function was normal. The vehicle was taken into the dealer to be diagnosed and the failure code indicated brake rotors overheated. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the road failure the vehicle was not repaired . The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 70060.
