On June 30th, I turn right, into a parking lot. I take an immediate left and pull up to a stop sign at the end of a fast food driveway. There is about a 30 ft distance between turning right off of the main road and stopping at the stop sign. While attempting to brake, they lock up and skid. I have a scared foster child in the car. I was unable to brake, only using my right foot. I have to apply pressure to finally be able to get it to stop, with my left foot as well. While doing this, I hit my left, big toenail on the brake pedal and rip half of it off. Upon a quick google search, looking for issues with the brakes, I discover that there is a current lawsuit for 2023-2025 Palisade models for abs and traction control issues. Clearly this is a reoccurring issue. I take my brand new car into the Hyundai service department to have a look at the brakes. They see nothing wrong.

System that malfunctioned was the braking system safety was risked because vehicle doesn’t stop as it should at low speed below 30mph. Safety of occupants as well pedestrians and other motorists affected. Problem can be reproduced although dealer refused to confirm. I am in the process of getting it confirmed independently. Vehicle and components not inspected by manufacturer, police nor insurance. Although I am in the process of putting an insurance claim in. The issue has been reported and confirmed by several other owners of same make and model and year. No prior warning of issue to it happening. The problem: at low speed below 30mph and braking simultaneously when going over rough ground (non slippery), potholes or in my accident going over a 6” drain to my garage, the abs kicks in when it shouldn’t and the brake pedal vibrates and the vehicle lurches a bit. The result is that the braking distance increases significantly. I can reproduce the issue in particular roads areas. The accident I had involved when I was parking the car and the drain cover was dislodged at the entrance to the garage. I hit the brakes as usual but the brakes were ineffective and I ended up crashing into my refrigerator and freezer in the garage which took the full brunt of the impact and were damaged. I hardly had any brakes at all and the fridges took the full impact. Luckily it was at low speed. So only the front bumper got cracked and got damaged along with the fridges being fully crushed in. After the incident I was so shocked at what happened and couldn’t believe I lost the brakes so I found that several other owners of the same vehicle has had the same or even severe brake failures. I was able to replicate the problem fairly consistently in certain roads where it was slightly bumpy or rough. I didn’t want to try in my garage for obvious reasons. Furthermore the emergency brakes and collision warning did not activate either.

Abs kicks on while going slowly over uneven, bumpy roads, or train tracks. The entire car vibrates and I cannot stop the vehicle even when hitting the brake as hard as possible. The car continues forward for a few seconds after causing me to nearly rear-end other vehicles stopped at a red light.
When I am stopped at a traffic light (or even when traffic comes to a stop on the interstate highway in traffic), when I begin to drive again, all of a sudden the automatic braking system engages and slams on the brakes when there is nothing in front of me that I could collide with (because the car in front of me has driven forward and out of the way). Each time it happens I am terrified the person behind me is going to rear end me because I have started to drive already and the car suddenly and inexplicably slams the brakes on hard. I can’t find a rhyme or reason to when this occurs - I can go weeks without it happening and then suddenly it will happen once or twice and then weeks again without it happening - making it tough to recreate.

Abs locking up when slowing down.
The abs system is over sensitive or not working properly. If I am applying minimal break pressure over any uneven surface such as a small crack in the road, bump, gravel or uneven surface the abs will engage and cause the vehicle to lurch forward at least 5 feet. This has caused multiple near miss accidents. This is an accident waiting to happen.
On multiple occasions, my 2024 Hyundai Palisade (VIN [xxx] ) has experienced a serious safety issue involving the anti-lock braking system (abs). While traveling at low speeds (approximately 5–15 mph) over bumps or uneven surfaces, the abs has unexpectedly activated, preventing the vehicle from slowing or stopping when the brakes are pressed. In each case, the vehicle continued to move for an additional 10–16 feet before the brakes finally engaged. This issue has occurred repeatedly, including [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] each incident created an extremely dangerous situation. I narrowly avoided a collision by swerving to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of me. Fortunately, no pedestrians or oncoming vehicles were in the immediate area—otherwise, the outcome could have been catastrophic. I reported the issue to koeppel Hyundai in long island city, NY, on July 14, 2025, and brought the vehicle in for inspection that day. A technician acknowledged that other Palisade owners had reported similar incidents. Their only recommendation was to disable the "auto hold" feature, suggesting it might be contributing to the problem. I followed this guidance, but the issue reoccurred on [xxx] despite auto hold being turned off. This is a critical safety concern that requires immediate attention and a definitive repair—not just a workaround. Until Hyundai identifies and resolves the underlying issue, this defect puts drivers, passengers, and pedestrians at significant risk. Please advise on the next steps for a full investigation and proper resolution. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Coming to a stop sign, brakes would not engage, steering wheel shaking loudly. 1mm from rear ending the car stopped in front of me. The emergency brake came on right before I would have crashed. Prior to the brakes not engaging/wheel shaking no lights or warning signals from the car.
I was driving 15 miles an hour in a neighborhood and approached a stop sign. When I went to brake, the brakes vibrated, the steering wheel shook and I wasn’t stopping. I pushed down harder and eventually stopped just before entering the intersection. The roads were dry and smooth, no gravel, but it felt like I was sliding on gravel or ice. This has happened several times before in rough parking lots but I thought it was just a random fluke because of gravel or a bump in the road. No sensors or warning lights came on. It happened on a Sunday so we will contact the dealership tomorrow. We have an extended warranty.
While driving at approximately 20 mph on rough asphalted road (city road under construction) I applied the brakes in a normal fashion only to be met with violent shaking of the car and an unresponsive brake pedal. After pumping the brakes several times I was able to bring the car to an abrupt halt, narrowly avoiding an accident, I. E. , I was inches away from smashing the car in front of me. The violent shaking felt similar to when an abs is engaged, though more pronounced. I have an appointment with the dealer next week but am documenting the event given the numerous reports I found online and the multiple reports of the dealers doing nothing to remedy the safety issue. The vehicle has not—as of yet—been expected by the dealer. No warning lamps or messages appeared during the incident. This happened once before under similar circumstances approximately two weeks ago but I wrote it off as a "one off. ".
I have had multiple incidences over the past year where in stopped traffic, the car will suddenly slam on brakes as all cars start to pull off in traffic. I have almost been rear-ended by the car behind me with these sudden stops. Often when this happens I try again to pull forward and it will slam on breaks again and I have to quickly put it in park and then drive again to get it to let me begin to drive forward. There is nothing blocking my path forward. This usually in multi-lane traffic stops, so it appears that it is confused by the movement of cars in front of me and beside me. I did take it to the dealership and they could not replicate the issue since it is intermittent. They did not see any error codes that were logged either so couldn't help me with the issue. I also receive for long periods of time when driving more than one hour a message on the instrument panel that says "forward safety system limited. Radar blocked. " this eliminates cruise control and forward safety systems linked to radar.
I have a 2025 Hyundai Palisade with abs issue that has occurred at least 3 times since first occurrence at 1700 miles while on an incline turning right rode on rumble strip at about 15 to 20mph. The abs activated no abs light on dash, ride became extremely bumping and car will not stop at the light before the stop light. The was not able to steer left or right. This situation occurred two more times at decline and incline while turning at light. The car felt extremely unsafe when this event occurred.
This is a known issue happening to Palisades and Hyundai isn’t acknowledging the issue. A braking issue has been going on for a while but hadn’t become a safety concern for me until this month. While braking but moving under 10mph, even less, the abs system will engage without warning when driving over bumps or somewhat uneven road surface. This includes speed bumps. This has happened to me multiple times but never caused me to be in harms way until this month. I was braking for a stop light on a road with numerous small potholes. As I was slowing to stop, the abs issue occurred. I braked as hard as I could but continued to get the push back/the automatic pumping action of the abs system and continued moving forward. The car was shaking as well. I continued pushing the brake/attempting to get the brake to engage the entire time, and my car finally stopped, mere inches away from rear ending the car stopped in front of me. I was slowing at a safe distance and would have stopped at more than a safe enough distance away if my car had let me stop. Now I’m deathly afraid of hitting a bump or some sort of uneven road when I need to stop and my car not stopping and hitting someone else, something else, or losing further control of the vehicle. No lights came on or any noises made to indicate a system was activated. My car also didn’t warn me of a possible collision and didn’t stop on its own, as it’s capable of doing. It’s as if the abs issue overrode everything and my car just wouldn’t brake. I’ve never experienced anything like this with any other vehicle, driving on the same exact roads.
1. On several occasions while braking over uneven surfaces, the vehicle would not come to a complete stop, the brake pedals and steering wheel shook violently, and the vehicle continued to propel forward although I had the brakes engaged. This almost caused me to collide with other vehicles. The dealership could not replicate the issue and said it was a normal response. No, that is wrong; this is abnormal and dangerous. But at any rate, there was a safety recall recently to address the same issue that I have been complaining about so I hope it fixes the problem 2. Also, the paint on the roof rails and the door handles are flaking off. The coating and paint on the roof rails is splotchy, rough, and uneven, and the door handles continue to peel horribly. The dealership said corporate and parts denied my warranty request deeming the issue as normal wear and tear when the dealership said it was a paint and workmanship defect. No new vehicle should be losing its paint like this. Me simply opening a door and driving a car should not cause handles and roof rails to peel. It id getting worse. Also in conducting research on the issue, it is found to be a problem others have complained about as well. I have filed several complaints and claims in attempt to get my truck fixed.
On expressway traveling through atlanta, changing lanes with plenty of clearence using signal at approximately 55 mph when suddenly alarm sounded and breaking system engaged bringing car to almost complete stop. Could not accelerate and fortunately made it to berm area without causing serious accident. Turned engine off and restarted vehicle and continued on my way. Had vehicle checked at dealership and they said “all checked out and we found no diagnostics problem”. Also weren’t able to duplicate incident. I hope to god I am unable to duplicate the incident and cause fatalities including myself.

This has happened to me on 6 different occasions. While driving at slow speeds, and applying the brakes, the vehicles abs system kicks in for no reason. However, while doing this, the vehicle is not slowing down and feels as though it will not stop. The only thing that stops the vehicle is the emergency brake that kicks in when the sensor feels I am getting too close to the car in front of me. I have been close to hitting the front car on several of these instances and another time, I stopped because I turned the wheel to the curb and the sensor picked up the curb and suddenly stopped the car. I have noticed that this happens more if the road is not smooth. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer for service and no change was done because they could not duplicate the problem.
Brake or abs failure when driving at a moderate speed between 10 to 20 mph over an uneven ground, slightly bumpy road, which makes the car shake and lurch forward while brake pedal becomes unavailable to press/hit . This has happened around 6 times within the last 10 months since the purchase, twice over a railroad crossing, and four times when passing over a sliding parking lot gate's track, dealer conducted a diagnosis but unable to replicate the issue, where they had driven the car not more than 5 miles within the limits of their parking lot. I opened a case with Hyundai manufacturer America regarding the issue but they told me the same thing as the dealership did that they can't help me further because they couldn't replicate the issue.
Recently, the emergency braking system has been activated without warning on multiple occasions, including while driving on the freeway and local streets, even when no obstacles were present. This unexpected braking could potentially lead to dangerous situations, especially at high speeds. The emergency braking system unexpectedly activates without any obstruction, indicating a possible malfunction with the front sensor or abs system. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The unexpected activation of the emergency braking system, especially at high speeds on highways, poses a significant risk of rear-end collisions, sudden deceleration, and potential accidents involving other vehicles. The issue has been observed but not definitively confirmed or resolved by the Hyundai dealership, which suggested recalibration of the front sensor without assurance of a solution. The vehicle was inspected by a Hyundai dealership but has not been evaluated by other entities like the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. The issue occurred suddenly and unpredictably on various occasions. My experience is not an isolated case; I have found numerous reports from other Hyundai Palisade owners who have encountered similar issues, with no definitive solution provided. I urge NHTSA to investigate this issue thoroughly and instruct Hyundai to offer necessary repairs at no cost, given the potential risk to drivers, passengers, and others on the roads.
A severe safety concern with our 2023 Hyundai Palisade, which has been present since the day we received the vehicle. When braking on uneven roads, the brakes jitter and stutter. This issue does not seem to occur on flat surfaces; however, it is always at lower rate of speed when roads have bumps. On three separate occasions, I have experienced a complete loss of brakes, and my wife has faced the same issue at least five times. When this happens, standing on the brakes does not trigger any response—there are no warning alarms, and the brake system completely fails. The potential to hit another vehicle or pedestrian, or veer into oncoming traffic, is very high, and in fact, I’ve had to swerve into a curb (causing curb rash to the right passenger rim) to avoid a collision. Due to the severity of this problem, I no longer allow my wife to drive the vehicle. I have a appointment on 10/21 with mcdonald Hyundai. I have noticed this since day 1 and regret that I did not act sooner! upon conducting research, I discovered over 21 complaints on one website alone regarding the exact same issue. I am deeply concerned that the mechanics may not be familiar with this specific problem.
While driving at low speed and slightly uneven surface. . . Approaching stop signs or intersections. The abs system kicks in, shakes aggressively and can no longer control vehicle to come to a stop. This is a sporadic incident and has happened 3 times so far.
When applying the brakes as you approach a stop light or vehicle etc. . The vehicle will apply or go into an abs event and lock you out of the brake pedal so you can't apply any more pressure to the pedal and will not stop the vehicle without a collision. I have had this happen several times and have had to steer into the ditch or oncoming lane to avoid an accident. This has occurred at slow speeds as well as highway speeds. This is a very dangerous situation and will cause an accident.
On three seperate occasuions while going over small bumps in the road and braking at the same time, the car will automatically release the brakes and coast over the bumps. Each time I was apporaching stopped vehicles at stop lights. I was within inches of hitting them each time.
I was pulling into my driveway 8/11/24 when I engaged the brake pedal pushing it fully down to stop behind my other vehicle. The antilock brake system seemed to turn on and the car did not stop. The steering wheel started shaking violently and the car went forward another 10-15 feet and I crashed into my other car, all while the brake pedal was completely down. We brought the car in to the dealership, ettleson Hyundai in countryside, IL, where they could not reproduce the event. They changed out the main governor of the abs system anyway.
While driving on the interstate on a clear sunny day at approximately 70 mph within the span of five minutes my vehicle’s emergency braking system engaged (with visible warning on dash screen) causing breaking with a steering deviation forced to the right. There was no one immediately in the lanes next to me, and the car in front of me was 4-5 car lengths ahead, at least.
I was driving about 40mph on a sunny, dry day, and approached a red light. I depressed the brake, and rather than stopping, the brake vibrated and the car continued to coast an additional 2 car lengths. On a second occasion, about 2 months later, I was driving about 25mph on a sunny, dry day, and I came to an intersection. I applied the brake, and again, rather than stopping, the brake vibrated and the car coasted into the intersection. There was a car coming, so I had to honk the horn repeatedly to alert the other driver that my car was not stopping. I took the car to the dealership. They have been unable to reproduce the problem, so they insist that nothing has happened and they want me to take the car back.
The car exhibited an inability to effectively brake in a very common situation (braking when traveling at low speeds on slightly bumpy ground). I was approaching the end of our driveway and started to apply the brakes as I passed over some slightly bumpy ground asphalt. The car lurched forward repeatedly as the brakes were applied, bouncing forward in spurts rather than stopping and taking twice as long to stop than it should have; I was a couple of feet from entering the roadway despite beginning to break with plenty of time to stop.
Possible abs malfunctioningg/ sensitivity. This is the 3rd incident that occurred and I had this vehicle for less than a month. Abs kicks in while slowing down to stop at a stop sign; the car/ steering wheel shakes vigorously. It disengage my brakes causing the vehicle to take a longer distance to stop. This is concerning as half of the vehicle was in the middle of a busy street and my family safety is at risk.
I just had my 5th occurrence with my new 2024 Hyundai Palisade where while braking at a slow speed, my abs kicked in and wouldn’t stop my car despite pushing the brake to the floor. Finally it abruptly stopped. In all situations, the road surfaces seemed to be slightly uneven or slightly bumpy. Each time this happened, I was traveling very slow and no faster than 10 mph. I’ve had my car for 2+ months and now has happened 5 times. This past time, I missed rear ending a vehicle in front of me because abs was aggressively pulsating but not stopping until almost hitting the vehicle in front of me.
When driving at low speeds over bumpy roads or obstacles like train tracks, seems like the abs activates and the brake pedal turns very hard to press and the car wouldn't brake unless pushed very hard as the car keeps moving forward, not stopping. It's happened at least 4 times in 2 months. Braking capacity diminishes by 90% in those few seconds and if you don't know how to act and press the brake as hard as you can, the car won't stop.
I was driving over train tracks at about 5 mph when my car wouldn’t brake. I was jamming down on the pedal and that eventually triggered a really aggressive abs and emergency braking. I came millimeters away from hitting the car in front of me and the whole time it felt like I had zero control of the car and the car just had a mind of its own. Based on what I’ve read online I believe this is a known issue that Hyundai is ignoring.
There have been many times when driving, specifically over bumpy ground, but it has also happened over smooth/dry ground, where it feels like the anti-lock brakes suddenly kick in when they are not supposed to causing an inability to brake. You have to take your foot off the brake and brake again. This has caused several close calls of rear-ending someone or running through a stop sign or light. You must be keenly aware that this sudden braking inability/shaking of car, etc may happen and there always needs to be a lot of room in front of you. I mentioned it to the dealer, they noted there was nothing they can do but that they have reported it to Hyundai and Hyundai is aware and they have had other complaints. It has not been reproduced or inspected by anyone else at this time. I have not had any warning lamps or messages.
I was slowing down approaching an intersection with cars already at a full stop up ahead. I was braking to slow down in preparation to stop. As I got closer, I drove over railroad tracks and felt the brake pedal begin to vibrate like the automatic emergency braking system kicked in. With my foot still on the brake, the car continued forward without any additional decrease in speed. I pushed my foot down as hard as I could and the car stopped inches from the car in front of me. I’m not sure if me pressing on the brake more even did anything or if some other collision avoidance system in the car stopped it before colliding with the car in front of me. There was beeping and the display switched to show cameras in front of the car, which happens when getting close to something while parking, etc. Luckily I was slowing and not at a high rate of speed. If I had hit the car ahead of me, there would have been damage but not major. What if I was going faster when this occurred? or if I was braking for a person or bike? or if it was collision avoidance that actually stopped the car here but I was the first car stopping in the intersection and couldn’t stop.
I was approaching a stop sign at low speed. Road was a bit gravely and when I tried breaking the abs kicked in and wouldn’t allow me to break. A car was going and last second finally car stopped. It was so scary! many times this keeps happening as I’m breaking if road has a slight bump or rocks the breaking system kicks in and takes over not allowing me to break. You hear the noise of the abs taking over when it shouldn’t. I took car to Hyundai service and they said they couldn’t “ replicate” the problem. I don’t know how they couldn’t because ii happens all the time!.
Traveling in a slow lane of traffic. Brakes malfunctioned when I began to brake over broken/ not smooth road. Car began to shake hard and loud. Brakes locked but car was still rolling. I was unable to control the vehicle almost rear ending the car in front of us. I didn’t know what to do or how to stop us before we crashed. That’s when the car actually stopped everything went quiet and it seemed as if I got into an accident with myself. Because the car jerk hard and stopped abruptly. Called the dealership. To service the car. Told them what happened. Dealership said they cannot do anything about it. Told to express my complaint to NHTSA.
Since around the 1000-mile mark, I have been having an issue sporadically we are when I am breaking and going over either a pothole, an entrance to a driveway, railroad tracks, or in general slowing down toward a stop sign going under approximately 15 miles an hour the entire car loses control and starts shaking. The abs system or something similar is kicking in at the wrong times and it is perilous and can cause an accident as you have no control over the braking anymore for a few seconds. The entire car shakes in the front end, including feeling it through the brake pedal as well as the steering wheel. I have brought the vehicle many times to my local Hyundai dealership and have been told there is no issue and everything is operating according to how it should when I took the head of their maintenance shop out for a ride and replicated the issue I was told that it is operating normally and despite many people having the same issue online he was told by their back and " tech line team" to say this is operating normally. Hyundai needs to be held accountable for these dangerous cars as it is only a matter of time before someone loses their life when they cannot control their vehicles braking power during such an incident.
