1 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2021

Feels like the acceleration slips & can quit supplying gas to engine for few seconds, engine is knocking, and turbo revs but doesn't engage. Car can lose power at full speed randomly. Brought to mechanic and they read knock sensor issue, ect needs reprogramming, & add'l issues so recommended I take it to the dealership since it may fall under an extended warranty. No recalls on VIN. Next morning mechanic saw flashing engine light. I had it towed to dealership. They told me it needed a cpu update / reset & battery (which was recently tested at mechanics to show good). I picked it up & it was still in the bay. I drove it about a quarter of a mile & heard rattling. Roads aren't great in the area so thought I should get it on the main road. Immediate had slipping when accelerating onto the highway. Drove about half a mile & immediately knew the engine was in distress so turned around. Got back to dealership, turned it off. Staff got in the car at my request of a test drive & check engine light came on flashing. No report since.

2 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2020

Merged into I-95/thruway from dunkin donuts and noticed the vehicle having difficulty going up slight hill. The vehicle wouldn't accelerate and had a light new noise. I pulled onto the shoulder and noticed a check engine light. Put the vehicle in park, open the hood noticed heat coming from under the hood but nothing noticeable. Tried to turn the vehicle back on and it wouldn't turn on. Had the vehicle towed to nearest mechanic who said they wouldn't touch it because it seems like an engine issue and take it to Hyundai. All the Hyundais nearby were closing and couldn't help for 2 days. Had my vehicle towed back to my borough almost 2 hours away. Vehicle is currently sitting the Hyundai service to be looked at in 2 days and no guidance on what to do in the meantime besides call your insurance. Thankful we caught the issue and pulled over before it completely shut off. Otherwise 5 people including a 4 year old would have been in an accident with another/other vehicles because the vehicle would not accelerate or turn on after I pulled onto the shoulder. The vehicle has 42,000 miles on it, purchased cpo 4 years ago at Hyundai along with tlp and full coverage. First time this car ever gave us any issue. No warning signs between the dunkin and the incident 4 miles of gut feeling saying pull over something is not right.

5 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2018

While driving myself and my 3 year old son on the freeway headed to drop him off at the sitter prior to going to work I let off my gas while driving a good 65mph and my car continued to drive while my foot was not on the pedal to excelerate not only was my car driving on its own as if it were in cruse control but my check engine light went at the same time this was occurring. Right away I thought it was the transmission (I had a 2000 Hyundai elantra with transmission issues previously) however I then remembered there was a recall from last year regarding the engine what they called engine seizures in which Hyundai did not have a remedy for at that time (reference#: 10312381 dated 6/9/17) was my initial case to Hyundai so I've now contacted the manufacturer again this morning (ref# 11650656 10/3/2108) and I've scheduled an appointment with Hyundai service department @ 8:45am tracy CA for 10/4/2018 for them to hopefully have a remedy that could potentially save lives. My car has 56k miles and my warranty is up at 60k miles. I am fearful for others as well as parent and concerned financially for what's to possibly come if I don't recieve the adequate assistance. Please help - ashley cosgrove contact @ 209-740-7776.

6 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. When the contact attempted to start the engine, it turned over and took more than one attempt to start. Also, the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the check engine light illuminated because the vehicle may not have an authentic fuel cap. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 98,600.

7 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2018

Purchased 2013 Santa Fe sport in Jan 2018, with 60k miles. 7k miles added, to date. May 2018, drove through a car wash, water entered the cab through a seal above the dashboard. Hyundai service investigated, replaced moon roof seal, and then reported that the moon roof seal was not the cause, further investigation needed, at a cost, to us, of $400. We respectfully declined. Water entering the vehicle, during a heavy rain, could prove to be very dangerous. 6/02/18, merged onto highway, speed of 75 mph, 9:45 am, clear skies, fairly moderate traffic. Without warning, engine lost all power, attempted to accelerate, negative results, non-responsive. Vehicle began to slow, turned hazard warning lights on, and coasted to the next exit. There were approximately 4 cars behind me when I lost engine power. Fortunately, I was able to safely exit, the freeway, and coast downhill, to a nearby chevron station, without causing a major accident. (would my wife or children have been as fortunate?) turned the vehicle off and then on again. The vehicle had electrical power and initiated a self check, results unknown. The check engine warning light/battery light/oil light were all visible on the dash board. While the vehicle was performing a self diagnostic test. . . A cloud of smoke/burning smell emitted from the ac vent located near the radio. Vehicle was towed to the Hyundai dealer, where purchased. A diagnostic check and visual inspection revealed that the engine had seized and was related to previous engine recall. Problem: machining errors during the engine manufacturing process may cause premature bearing wear within the engine, this could result in the engine seizing, increasing the risk of a crash. Fix: dealers will inspect the engine and replace the engine short block, as necessary, for free. Dangerous, busy highways, high speed. . . . Fatalities probable.

8 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2017

When driving on the high way, the speed at 60~65 mph, check engine light came on 2~3 times, each time just lasted few seconds and acceleration probably could trigger check engine light on.

9 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2017

My car is stating to show signs of loss of power and hesitation as noted as some of the affects from this recall. I did notice this same type of actions back in September, and my check engine light came on and my car completely died on me and was jerking and hesitant when it would run. I took it in for repair to phil long Hyundai of motor city and paid $624. 03 for repairs, and not the same actions are occurring. I would like action to be taken prior to a complete stall and would like to request to be reimbursed for the $624. 03 I paid out back in September 2016 for repairs.

10 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2017

Engine seized, thankfully I was barely leaving my home. Engine totally failed with no warning. No check engine lights went on until after the engine failed. Engine also began smoking. Hyundai concluded the car had total engine failure. The car received regular maintenance/ oil changes and taken care of. Being a 2013 should not have had engine failure.

11 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2013

While driving our 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe sport 4cyl. On the mass. Turnpike, 200 miles from home, the engine suddenly started to run very rough. My son bought the car into the right hand lane and onto the shoulder of the road. The car was turned off as he investigated the problem. No damage was visible. As the car was restarted, the check engine light came on. The car continued to run very rough and shook. With the assistance of the mass. State police, the car was removed from the turnpike to await roadside assistance. The car was towed to a nearby Hyundai dealership. The following day the service manager called to say that the problem has been found. A spark plug in cylinder 2 had broken, with the broken piece missing. Therefore, the engine has to be dismantled and inspected for additional damage until the loose part is found. We are very disappointed in our recent purchase and wonder if the repair or replacement of the entire engine in a 3 1/2 month old car with less than 4,500 miles on it is a car that we will feel safe in again. There has been minimal contact with this dealership as they are still "working on it" our local dealer that we bought the car from has also been of very little help. Hyundai assistance states that they will paid for the repairs and cost of our rental car after we submit our receipts.

12 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2013

I was coming off the highway on the off-ramp and coming to a stop at a stoplight. When the light turned green, the car wouldn't not accelerate pass 10 or 15 mph. It seemed like it wouldn't shift to a higher gear but would be stuck on 1st gear to accelerate. I had to pull off the side of the road and get it towed back to the dealership. Before getting a tow truck, I attempted to turn it off and on several time. The check engine light would come on and any attempts to restart and accelerate the car would produce the same results; the car wouldn't accelerate. Also, after turning off the car, the car would not come on without a lot of engine cranks. The car only as 823 miles on it. I've only had it for 2 weeks. Extremely disappointed with the car and the company. Will try to return it. Not worth the risk of it causing inuring to my family.
