The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that upon start of her vehicle while in at a gas station, the vehicle initially failed to accelerate upon depression of the accelerator pedal. The contact repeatedly tapped on the accelerator pedal as the vehicle abruptly accelerated at a high rate of speed. The contact immediately depressed on the brake pedal before the hitting a pole. The contact also stated that the same failure occurred while in a parking lot which resulted in the vehicle crashing into a handicap parking sign which damaged the sign. A police report was not filed, the contact was not injured, and the contact was able to drive away from the scene. I have complained to mfg. Of the problem I have with acceleration. When gas pedal is pressed from a stopped position the SUV power surges, there is no smooth acceleration. No matter how you try to control the pressure on the pedal, the vehicle just takes off. I had this checked out 2x since buying vehicle in Dec. O7. And have been told that is the way the computer works with the vehicle. I find this to be very un-nerving and dangerous. This is a continuous problem, and I have had a friend drive vehicle and he has the same problem.

Fast acceleration from a stop sign. Not all the time but every so often. It snaps your head and neck back. Have had it in to dealership and they told me I didn't know how to drive a censor accelerator vehicle. All new Hyundai's are supposed to have this but no one else seems to have a problem.
When 2005 Santa Fe accelerator pedal is depressed it has a delayed reaction. ***** the consumer stated when the delayed acceleration occurred it caused the tires to spin on wet or snow covered pavement. The starter had to turn over much longer than it should before the engine starts. The brakes would catch as if something in the braking system was loose, there was a grinding/rubbing sound when the brakes were partially applied. The consumer believed there was a power steering fluid leak.
I purchase a new 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe equipped with the 3. 5 engine and 4 wheel drive in July of 2005. As I now found out, this optional 3. 5 engine is equipped with a computer operated acceleration throttle engine. This new set up is very poorly designed, has a few second delay and then the car darts off fast, sometimes spinning all drive wheels on dry pavement. I bought a 4 wheel drive unit for our rain, snow covered roads in oregon, however it's much worst on this type of conditions. I've almost rear ended the car ahead of me several times and also have to have one foot on brake pedal in heavy traffic or where I have to stop for people crossing the street. This I know is a very dangerous with pedestrians and heavy stop and go traffic in every day situations. I've quit driving this vehicle in those situations as I don't want to cause property damage or lost of life, since I've had a stroke and slower now. I called my local Hyundai dealer and they suggested I have it tow 55 miles to them, which I did. After several days there, they said they re programmed the computer and it was somewhat better. I picked it up and within a few city blocks I new it was just the same as before. I was planning a trip to las vegas, nv. And decided I would take it there and then to a dealer in that town, which I did. What a surprise, that dealership was very well a where of the problem and had hundreds of complaints concerning the exact problem. The service manager and mechanic came out to tell me that there was a real problem with the 3. 5 engine and that there was no fix for it at that time, my best cure would be to trade it in for a another car !!. They would not even try to fix it. I paid 25,000. 00 dollars for it and can't even know drive it safely.
On 4 separate occasions vehicle experienced sudden acceleration and lunched forward. Vehicle almost hit a concrete wall and pedestrians. Vehicle was serviced 3 times, but the dealership was unable to duplicate the problem.

Intermittently when applying the accelerator pedal from a stop position vehicle suddenly accelerated and lurched forward. Vehicle had been to dealer on 10 separate occasions, and they were unable to locate the cause of the problem.
While accelerating after a complete stop, the vehicle failed to respond. Dealer could not duplicate or correct the problem. The vehicle did not respond and the consumer had to push on the pedal to make it go, especially at a spotlight following other vehicles. The vehicle had been to the dealer on three occasions. The crank sensor was installed which did not solve the problem. Another mechanic solved the problem in a few minutes stating that it was a minor mechanical problem.
When the vehicle reachs approximately 40 mph, the vehicle bucks, stutters, hesitates, downshifts for a few seconds. When the problem occurs it is like you are taking your foot off the accelerator and then putting your foot back on. We no longer feel safe in the vehicle and its only a matter of time before the transmission breaks leaving us stranded or even worse causing a fatal accident. Americas best warranty is a meaningless slogan when a company chooses to deny that there is a serious and dangerous defect in a vehicle.

While driving vehicle will jerk forward , accelerator pedal when depressed will slow down. After a few minutes, accelerator will respond again. Dealer replaced transmission, did not remedy. Currently, dealer insisted it was a software problem.
This vehicle accelerates while braking. When pressing on brake pedal you can accidentlly press the accelerator pedal at the same time. This has happened a number of times since I purchased this vehicle. This creates an extremely dangerous situation when this happens since your first reflex is to press harder on the brake pedal, which causes the vehicle to accelerate more. Very scary when this happens, especially when pedestrians are in front of the vehicle. It appears this is caused by the position of the brake pedal in relation to the accelerator pedal. I don't believe this to be an isolated incident but more of a design flaw. As a mechanic for 31 years and driver of numerous foreign and domestic vehicles I have not experienced anything quite as unnerving. If any additional information is needed please do contact me.
