1 Cruise Control problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/24/2025

The contact owns a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed with the cruise control activated, the contact stated that after depressing the brake pedal the cruise control briefly failed to disengage. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The electronic power control (epc) and power train warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the stop lamp switch. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 13v113000 (exterior lighting); the VIN was included, but the vehicle had already been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 195,000.

2 Cruise Control problem of the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/16/2024

The cruise control uses a camera , the is supposed to watch your eyes , to make sure you are watching the road . Unfortunately , if you are wearing glasses ( which I must when I am driving ) the light reflecting off them makes the unit think I am not watching the road . For backround, I was a highway patrol offiger for 30 years . I am very attentive to the road ahead of me . It seems Hyundai knows of this problem , which suddenly disengages the cruise control , causing rapid deceleration of the vehicle . At highway speed , this is very dangerous . It has been noted on many forums , and my dealer knows about the problem , but there is no way to disconnect the camera from the system . This is really an accident waiting to happen .

3 Cruise Control problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/01/2024

The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds with the cruise control activated, the cruise control failed to disengage when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact pulled over, placed the vehicle in neutral, and restarted the vehicle for the cruise control to disengage. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The brake pedal was depressed, but the brake lights failed to illuminate. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 09v122000 (exterior lighting); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. The failure mileage was 82,500. Parts distribution disconnect.

4 Cruise Control problem of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/17/2020

During acceleration from a stop sign/red light or turning the engine hesitates for approximately 5 seconds after several tries before reaching desired speed. When using cruise control on freeways there is a 10 to 15 second delay when accelerating or passing another vehicle which in one instance caused a near accident on a high speed freeway. My vehicle slowed down causing other vehicles go around me passing from the right side lane. These hesitations have caused me several near accidents and makes me not feel confident when driving this car. I have taken the vehicle to the dealership on many occasions and they report no error codes show up and, the mechanic cannot duplicate the problem. However, the dealer replaced the transmission earlier this year. There has been no improvement. I have reviewed many other complaints of this hesitation problem. Will it take death reports to help us owners? my issue began in 2018 right after purchase and the problem is occurring more often now. No help is in sight when Hyundai and the dealership refuses to admit the problem and makes me and other owners feel like we don't know our vehicles or our own minds!! we need help before a death occurs not after!!.

5 Cruise Control problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/01/2020

The contact owns a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph with the cruise control activated, the brake pedal was depressed however, the vehicle unintendedly accelerated without warning. The vehicle was towed to Hyundai of new port richey located at 3936 us-19, new port richey, FL 34652, (727) 477-8644, where an unknown repair was performed however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was informed of failure. The failure mileage was 79,053.

6 Cruise Control problem of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/14/2020

When I drive going straight at about 40 to 48 mph on eco mode or any drive mode the car jumps/ jerks like it shifts into a low gear and then goes back into a high gear with no heavy acceleration. If I have it on cruise control at 45mph it will kick back and forth occasionally as if I was slamming on the gas pedal then slightly on the break but quickly.

7 Cruise Control problem of the 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/15/2019

The electrical prompts on the face of the steering wheel begin to malfunction. First the volume control stopped, next the hands mobile phone controls. Then the cruise control functions and the menu for user settings stopped as well as airbags. When turning calls are dropped , all functions are inoperable whether car is in motion or stationary.

8 Cruise Control problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 02/08/2019

Brake lights remain on, stability control is turned off and cruise control doesn't work. This is a safety hazard to vehicles following, a lack of vehicle stability control, an inability to maintain a constant speed on the freeway. There has been a historic recall on this issue - but not for this specific VIN. This vehicle obviously is using the same defective part. Battery runs down and vehicle won't start unless battery is disconnected (due to brake lights remaining on).

9 Cruise Control problem of the 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 12/31/2018

While driving on the interstate, I noticed a rattling/knocking noise coming from the front of the vehicle, under the hood. The noise kept getting louder, specifically as the vehicle accelerated. I noticed that the rpms would increase, with no increase in speed & even a decrease in speed. During this time the car was using cruise control at approximately 70 mph. As I noticed the knocking noise getting louder, I tapped the brakes & the vehicle's speed dramatically decreased to approximately 40 mph. I tried to speed the vehicle up & the rpms increased significantly, while the vehicle speed did not. I then put my flashers on to signal there was an issue with the vehicle & the check engine light came on, along with other service lights on the dashboard. The vehicle's steering capacity was tight & the ride became extremely bumpy as the speed decreased. After abruptly stopping on the shoulder of the interstate, the vehicle started to smell like something was burning. I could smell this in the cabin of the vehicle & the noticed there was smoke coming from the hood of the car. The engine shut off, but then began to try & turn on, with the lights starting & the start up musical sound playing. It would turn on & off 3 - 4 times, so I then removed the key from the vehicle, stepped out & backed away. The smoke, thankfully, seemed to dissipate after 20 minutes. Fire & police arrived on the scene & did not find any fire, but did smell the burning smell I noticed in the cabin of the vehicle. Unfortunately, we never could get the vehicle's engine to crank again & ended up having it towed back to our local Hyundai dealership.

10 Cruise Control problem of the 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/17/2018

On 6/17/2018 @ approximately 5:00pm while driving my Santa Fe, I began to have surging power. I attempted to disengage the cruise control but could not. I would slow down only to speed right back up as if I had pushed the resume button, I had not. I attempted to shift into neutral however my geer shifter was locked into drive & I couldn't get the shifter out of drive. At times the car would start to slow down after pu mping the breaks only to have a surge of power again. As I was driving, I came up to a sharp curve & wasn't able to slow down therefore I ended up rolling the SUV & further slamming to a large hill. I was injured in this accident due to rolling my car! this happened bc I believe the cruise control got stuck & locked up my transmission!!! I also couldn't turn the key off since the car was in drive.

11 Cruise Control problem of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/28/2017

Excessive engine braking on downhill roll with cruise engaged, will downshift then downshift again. While reducing the speed the cruise will cause the transmission to up-shift still rolling down the same hill at this point the cruise realizes the speed increase and does a double downshift from where it was. At this point the rpm has jumped to just under 5000 with the engine whining like its in pain. I live in and travel, to and from work in the lower savannah river area of south carolina. The hill that I was on is about the length football field and the speed limit is 55mph unsure of the grade, but as I explained where we live. The first time I noticed this issue the odometer had just over a thousand miles and just thought it was an anomaly but now it has just under three thousand miles and it still has the problem. The car was purchased as a wedding gift for my wife and she's scared to drive it because of the cruise control issues. She would rather drive her 2007 Santa Fe the cruise control in it acts normal and feels dependable, even with 114,000 miles on it. I've contacted Hyundai motors and have taken it to the dealer with no results. Hyundai assigned me case worker angela godbey (714) 965-7049 she closed the case 8/23/17, but not without giving indication that the problem is a manufacturers installed defect.

12 Cruise Control problem of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/27/2017

I purchased a new 2017 Santa Fe sport on 5-26-17. On 7-19-17 at around 7100 miles I received a message warning me of the engine overheating. I put a phone call in the following morning to my dealership and was told to bring it into the shop 7-20-17 (thur). That afternoon I received a call from my service adviser stating there was no check engine light on and they could not find an issue. I then restated it was not an engine light but an actual message stating the engine was overheatng. He then called me back 10 minutes later stating there in fact was a leak in the water pump and they needed to replace the gasket and that they would not have the part until 7-25-17 (tues). When I finally got my car back on the 26th (wed) all seemed fine again. On Friday 7-28-17 while driving on cruise control at 60 miles per hour I felt the car down shift and rpm's started going well over 5000 and the only way to stop it was to push on the break this happened twice withen an hour span. I contacted dealer again and was told to bring car back. Note they also had to fix a scratch put on my passenger mirror from when car was serviced the first time. I brought my Santa Fe back in on Monday 7-31-17 and finally decided to contact service department on wed 8-2-17 when no body called to let me know of issues. Since then todays date is 8-10-17 I contacted dealer again to find out status as of right now they had to replace head gasket , reprogram cruise control and replace thermostat on top of the gasket they already replaced on water pump. The service department also stated they still smell coolant in my SUV which concerns me still since I am 5 months pregnant. I did start case with Hyundai USA and am waiting to here what options I may have but know I do not want this SUV back for my safety.

13 Cruise Control problem of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/01/2017

Smart cruise control fails to brake intermittently. It is designed to match speed with the car in front of it. It usually works fine, unless another vehicle cuts in front, even if there is enough time to brake. I have to slam on the brakes manually to avoid an accident. This has happened on multiple occasions. I now fear using the cruise control at all, as it does not perform correctly 100% of the time. The dealer said they could find nothing wrong, but this is a very real issue that puts my family at risk. They have now called in a master tech from Hyundai to look at it, but I wanted to document this issue. I noticed it first within two weeks of purchase. Hyundai support closed my case several times without action. I bought it 5 months ago. Current mileage is 3462, so it is well within warranty.

14 Cruise Control problem of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/15/2016

While driving our 2017 hyndai Santa Fe on interstate 64 with the cruise control set at 65 mph the transmission will down shift to 5th and then 4th and then 3rd gear with the rpm almost red lining. This is while going down a slight downgrade. I've been having to use the manual mode to shift back up to 6th gear. We contacted the local Hyundai dealer who stated they were aware of the problem but did not have a solution to the problem at this time. I am worried about the safety of this vehicle with this problem.

15 Cruise Control problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/19/2016

Wife was driving on interstate on cruise control, car began to accelerate on its own. Tapping the brake did not release the cruise control. College son who was in passenger seat reached over and pulled gas pedal back which release the cruise control. Second occurrence. First time I thought maybe the floor mat was in the way. The floor mat was definitely not the issue for second occurance.

16 Cruise Control problem of the 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 05/31/2016

Random unintended gradual acelleration. Happens at any speed. Feels like when you resume cruise control to a higher speed. Except it doesn"t stop and continues acellerating. Though it may not be related to the cruise control at all. Pumping the gas pedal once stops the acelleration. Although last time it took 2 tries. Can live with it. So far anyway. But don't want to sell it without fixing the problem. The Hyundai dealership is no help. Happens maybe 3 or 4 times a week (100 miles).

17 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe

18 Cruise Control problem of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/10/2014

Hyundai Santa Fe sport 2013 purchased new, single owner vehicle. There have been multiple incidents where the cruise control had one of the following issues. 1. Failed to engage 2. Failed to disengage 3. Made the car accelerate when trying to disengage the cruise control feature it does not happen consistently but it has happened multiple times for me and the other driver within my home. Most recent incident took place 9. 10. 2014. I’m filing this complaint due to the safety concerns associated with the car accelerating when I’m intending for it to slow down by turning off the cruise control. I informed the dealership of this issue when I took my vehicle in for service and since it did not happen during a test drive they did not pursue the issue any further. The inability to duplicate the issue during a test drive does not reduce the safety impact of this software issue when the error occurs.

19 Cruise Control problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/25/2014

6/25/14, on interstate with cruise control at 65mph. Depressed the throttle pedal to pass a vehicle. Throttle stuck wide open. Applied brakes but kept on increasing speed. Depressed throttle pedal several times but no change. Turned cruise control off, no change. Turned key to acc and then back to on but no change. Turned key to acc and waited several seconds then back on. Throttle pedal started to respond. Pulled over and checked if floor mat was jamming throttle pedal. No problem, no jamming. Problem repeated again. Continued to destination and tried cruise control but it would not set. Turned cruise conrol off. SUV was parked overnight at destination. On return trip throttle and cruise control worked fine. 6/30/14, took SUV to ray brandt Hyundai, they found no codes set and could not dupilicate the problem. It seems if both the throttle is wide open and the brakes are being applied then a code should be set. . Read more...

20 Cruise Control problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/23/2014

Was on an interstate with cruise control set to 65 mph. Was attempting to pass another vehicle, thus depressed the throttle pedal. The throttle stuck wide open. Applied brakes but kept on increasing speed. Depressed throttle pedal several times but no change. Turned cruise control off, no change. Had to pull over, put vehicle in park with brake pressed and turned key off. Waited several minutes then back on, throttle pedal started to respond. Second instance, was accelerating to merge onto interstate from a ramp, had previously had cruise control set to 65 mph, throttle stuck wide open, again had to pulled over, put the vehicle into park, and turn off ignition . I checked to ensure floor mat was not interferring throttle pedal, it was not. Problem has recurred 4 times now on this vehicle all while trying to accelerate to either pass a vehicle or merge onto an interstate. All times the cruise control had been engaged.

21 Cruise Control problem of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the contact attempted to disengage the cruise control but the vehicle accelerated independently. In addition, the contact stated that while attempting to set a speed, the cruise control independently deactivated. The contact also stated that when resume was engaged on the cruise control feature, the vehicle lost power. The vehicle was taken to multiple dealers who were unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 3,000. Oo.

22 Cruise Control problem of the 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/16/2013

My 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe lx went full throttle today and stayed there. I was driving along at 30 mph with the gas pedal normally pressed and the car felt like cruise control was turned on. I applied the brakes and the throttle kept climbing, so I pulled over and put it in neutral. The throttle was now fully open at this point so I turned the engine off. With repeated starts, the engine immediately went into full throttle while in neutral. The gas pedal wasn't pressed down or stuck. I've had it towed to an independent shop so they can identify the problem. Tomorrow I should have answers. Very dangerous! first major problem with this car in 11 years and it ends up being life threatening.

23 Cruise Control problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 04/07/2013

Car began accelerating as if cruise control was on. I put my foot on the brake and the car hesitated for a second. My foot then returned to the gas pedal and again the car began to accelerate at a very fast pace. My foot then returned to the brake and the speed continued to increase. I then put the car into park and shut off the ignition. Prior to turning off the car the speedometer showed speed of 90 miles per hour. My vehicle then rolled to a stop. When the tow truck driver attempted to start the vehicle the steering column was locked and he was not able to turn the key in the ignition. The car was towed to the Hyundai dealership. The following morning they claimed they could not find anything wrong with the vehicle and suggested that the incident was caused by my floor mat.

24 Cruise Control problem of the 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe

25 Cruise Control problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/18/2013

Cruise control would turn on but not allow a speed to be set. Also esc off light remained on dash solid. We never received any notice of a recall from Hyundai. I see numerous other Hyundai owners who have had this problem. Also the check engine light has been on and won't turn off no matter how many times the cap is taken off then put back on after three turns. Fuel reads empty when tank is full.

26 Cruise Control problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 02/09/2013

While traveling on the interstate at approximately 70 mph, I attempted to deactivate the cruise control by tapping on the brake pedal. The cruise control did not turn off even with holding the brake down harder. I was able to shut off the cruise control using the off switch on the steering wheel. Upon exiting the interstate and reaching my destination, I could not get the shifter to go into park. After shutting the car off and on several times, I got it to go into park. It has only done this one time and never happened since then. Fortunately, I was driving and not my teenage daughter who normally drives this vehicle. Her lack of experience may have caused her to panic when the cruise control failed to deactivate with the brake pedal.

27 Cruise Control problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/15/2012

Faulty brake switch a/b. Obd codes p0571 & p0504 recorded. Symptoms: brake lights would not light with brake pedal depressed. Cruise control would turn on but not allow a speed to be set. Also esc off light remained on dash solid. Seems to be exact symptoms associated with NHTSA campaign id number 09v122000. We never received any notice of that recall from Hyundai. When I brought it to the attention of my local Hyundai dealership, I was told that recall did not apply to my vehicle. When I contacted Hyundai support I was told the same thing. I see numerous other Hyundai owners who have had this problem were also told the recall did not apply to their vehicle (via internet reports). I believe the recall should have applied to my vehicle. I have replaced the part myself and the repair seems to have corrected all the symptoms. The removed part is a genuine part of Hyundai/kia. It is p/n 92810-3k000. Below the p/n is ">pa66-gf30<" and "infac". There is a red and a green stripe painted across this face of the part. On another face of the part is stamped "6d07".

28 Cruise Control problem of the 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 12/17/2011

Dec 16, 2011 around 9:45am my husband and I had just picked my sister and brother in law up from the airport and had decided on grabbing some breakfast from waffle house. I had come to a complete stop to turn right into the restaurant parking lot; I then drove about 15 feet going maybe 5 mph to come to a complete stop to then turn right to get ready to enter into the parking spot. Once I released my foot from the break (not needing to apply the gas as my parking was maybe 20 feet to my right and the car should accelerate at a low speed on its own) the 2010 Santa Fe took off at an alarming speed I pressed my foot all way back down on the break but the car did not stop. I then looked down to see if my foot was on the break it was down to the floor board. The Santa Fe went over the parking spot and into the bushes then stopped itself. Thank god because the road was on the other side of the bushes. I have never experienced a vehicle doing this? I then contacted the service department at Hyundai where I purchased my car and was told that only happens to Toyota that they have never heard of it happening to their vehicles. My husband and I took the car back to the dealership where we e-mailed and reviewed of the photos with mark odat and 2 other managers showing the damage that accrued while going over the cement curb. I don’t know if there were any damages under my car, I noticed scratches to the paint and a bent license plate (which I bent back into place). I had brought my Santa Fe up to the dealership back in late August or early September 2011 with a complaint and spoke directly to the service manager jr that twice when I was on my trip from houston, TX to atlanta, GA when using the cruise control once I touched the break to turn the cruise control off the Santa Fe would accelerate instead of decelerate and that it had a hard time going up hills,.

29 Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/16/2011

2004 hyandai Santa Fe has sudden acceleration and surgingno trouble lights on. Dealership told me the throttle sensor had to be replaced, so we did that. About a month later, same thing happened. Dealership replaced throttle sensor again, at no charge. Said if it happens again we would need a new throttle body. Happenned again, so had the throttle body replaced. Happened again and was told it was wiring that had to do with cruise control. Which I never use. Happenned again today 3/16/2011. Notified the dealership that I was dropping off tonight in the night drop. I have already paid over $1000. 00 for something that has not been fixed. We will see what happens tomorrow. We maxed out our towing with aaa, so my husband, who works second shift and hour and half away from where we live has to drive it back to the dealership tonight. It started today when he was about 15 minutes away from work. Also this is our only car, and dealership always says their loaner cars are all out. Just wanted this documented and am praying my husband gets back to the dealership ok.

30 Cruise Control problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 12/26/2010

We were traveling north on route 27 near oxford, ohio in our 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. While passing a slow moving truck, I realized that the car was accelerating on its own and we went from 40 mph to over 90 mph in seconds. (the cars high speed was recorded by our garmin gps). I pressed hard on the brakes and felt the brakes being applied, but the engine was still racing at full throttle. I pressed very hard on the brakes again, but the car only slowed down a little. I pushed the cruise control on and then off hoping the car would stop accelerating. That did not help. I put the transmission in shift mode and tried to downshift so that I could slow down the car, but that only made the engine race even faster. I finally put the car in neutral, turned the ignition key off and applied the brakes to slow the car. We pulled over onto the grass on the side of the road. This all happened in a matter of seconds. We waited on the side of the road for a few minutes and then started the car again and it seemed fine. The engine was idling at a normal rate and there were no engine warning lights. We continued our trip cautiously, maintaining a distance from the cars ahead and most of the time kept a hand on the shift, so that the car could quickly be put in neutral again. I took the car to the Hyundai dealer on Monday. They ran various tests but reported that they could not find anything wrong. I told the service manager that it was unacceptable. We were sure there was a serious defect with the car. He then contacted Hyundai corporate headquarters and they proposed keeping the car for several days so that they could road test the car with diagnostic tools attached. We were concerned allowing them to drive the car and decided to sell it back to the dealer. The dealer could then run whatever tests they needed to try and figure out the problem.

31 Cruise Control problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 11/20/2010

While getting onto the highway from the on ramp the car began to accelerate on its own. The gas pedal began to depress itself without me doing it. The cruise control was not engaged and the floor matt was not the cause. Braking was difficult and the engine continued to rev. I pulled off the highway and stopped the engine. After telling my family about the incident my daughter told me that it had occurred twice before in the same manner about 2 months ago.

32 Cruise Control problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/19/2010

Accelerating vehicle to merge onto a major highway, car rapidly accelerated and would not slow down or stop despite attempts to brake or slow down. Attempted to tap brake and push off button of cruise control (although this had not been turned on) car required putting into neutral, pulling to side of road and turning engine off. This acceleration issue also happened June, 2009. Company made decision there is nothing wrong with the car at that time. Car will be evaluated on Monday, despite my request to have it seen immediately.

33 Cruise Control problem of the 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/08/2010

On Tuesday, June 8, 2010 I was on a busy interstate highway with fast moving traffic and my car lost all power while traveling at 70 mph. Fortunately, I was able to barely glide the sante fe to the shoulder and stop without incident. Follow up: 3 pm visited Hyundai service center and was told that it was not a throttle problem. They are in contact with CA service to determine cause of problem. Friday, 6-11-10 after complete testing of all circuits, Hyundai declares no source of problem. Auto was picked up at 4:30 pm Hyundai assistant service manager: bob wood Hyundai case # 3982284 the specifics are: ? SUV was purchased 8/09 and currently has 5200 miles. ? cruise control was on but not engaged. ? gas tank indicator on one-half. ? with my foot on gas pedal the initial instinct was that the engine had lost all power. O pressing harder on gas pedal had no reaction. O there was an opening in traffic and with the SUV forward inertia I was able to just reach the road shoulder. O observed that red indicators were on (battery, oil) ? reset transmission selector to park, turned off key. O first restart-nothing happened o second restart SUV started and I did not turn off until reaching home. Obviously, this is a serious life threatening situation that needs to be researched thoroughly and corrected.

34 Cruise Control problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

Purchased 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe from herrnsteins Hyundai of chillicothe, OH. In January 2010. On two separate occasions; once in March, and once in June on 315 columbus, ohio. The first time it over accelerated I was attempting to pass another vehicle. I accelerated to pass and then was attempting to slow back down when I heard the engine rev and felt the vehicle speed up. I do not and did not use the cruise control. The breaks only slowed the vehicle I could not get it stopped. I did manage to shift into neutral and as the engine continued to rev, I turned the vehicle off. Upon restarting it was ok. The second time I was accelerating to merge, upon completion of the merge I attempted to let off the accelerator and slow down. Again the engine revved, and I felt the vehicle speeding up. I applied breaks forcefully like before the vehicle slowed a bit but sped back up I continued to break using both feet and the vehicle slowed and was then ok. We reported this to the dealership each time it occurred. Their response was that it did not show a code. After the second event herrnsteins has shown concern and realizes their is a problem. However the hyuandi corp. Has taken the stance with us that they do not have a problem with sua in their vehicles and that ours is safe to drive. I suppose because I did not get killed or kill someone else that I can not prove it happened.

35 Cruise Control problem of the 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

I have experienced my 4th incident of sudden unintended acceleration on my 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe. I have reported this to you three times before. I am concerned that I may injure myself or another person when this happens. I now drive with my hand on the shift lever and put the car into neutral when nearing any possible situation where I could hit another car or a pedestrian. I am becoming so adept at this maneuver that last time it happened I put it in neutral automatically. I was badly shaken, but nothing serious happened. I have reported this to Hyundai America and they are not concerned. They have inspected the problem and claim that the car is safe to drive. The consumer stated she had already been driving for a few hours, so the engine was warm. The cruise control was on and she was headed up a mountain highway, when suddenly the vehicle lunged forward, increasing in speed as she was cresting the hill. As she headed down, braking, the tachometer continued to widely go up and down and the engine was revving up . Once she pulled over, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. They downloaded a computer upgrade and over the next 4-5 weeks on occasion, the vehicle would stall at low speeds. According to the invoice, the throttle position sensor was replaced.
