While driving my 2008 Hyundai santa on the highway on two separate occasions last week my Santa Fe decelerated unexpected to ~ 20 mph. The first time the car was on cruise control and started to lose power, the second time I was also using the cruise control and the same problem occurred. At the same time the esc warning light came on followed by the check engine light. The temperature was cold but the road conditions were dry the vehicle failed to accelerate. I took the car to the dealer and the they were able to fix it by replacing a sensor. This could have resulted in a very dangerous situation on the highway. The SUV failure and current mileage is ~ 25,400 miles.

Driving on the garden state pkwy in NJ, the car accelerated to 80mph and would not slow down or stop. Despite both feet on brake, the car would not slow down. The incident lasted for 5-10 minutes and disengaged by itself. Serviced for above by dealer on 5/2/09-remained until 5/6/10 and it was reported there was no mechanical issue-"it must have been the floor mat". Customer service was involved, going up to regional rep, who reiterated there was nothing mechanically wrong with the car-it was driver error. They also suggested it may have been an accidental cruise control engagement by driver, but had no explanation for why it did not disengage when brake was applied. They maintained it was driver error, probably the floor mat. The incident seems similar to the recent Toyota problem.

Was driving 2007 Hyundai sante fe at 90km per hour on highway. Went to accelerate to 110km per hour and immediately felt accelerator move away from my foot where it remained pinned against the floor. Noticed that cruise control light had come on the instrument panel but I did not engage the cruise control. I turned the cruise control button off and tapped brakes. Vehicle did not slow down and accelerator remained pressed to mat. Applied full force to brakes and managed to slow down to put vehicle in park. Vehicle began revving very high so I put vehicle back into drive and it began moving on it's own since accelerator was still fully depressed. I depressed on the brakes again, put vehicle into park and turned vehicle off, waited 30 seconds and restarted engine. Accelerator has worked normally since and vehicle will be taken to dealership. There were no loads on the vehicle other than lights being on and the temperature conditions were cool with average humidity for the area. Overall, a very frightening experience.
2004 Hyundai Santa Fe with brake failure. Consumer states that Hyundai has not come up with a reason why this failure has occurred. Consumer barely missed an accident by applying the emergency brake and sliding to a stop. The consumer stated a recall had been issued for the abs, however his vehicle was not included the recall. The dealer suggested all types of scenario's for the brake failure. The consumer suspected there may be a defect in the abs. The consumer stated the brakes were applied and slowing the vehicle normally when they suddenly disengaged. The consumer stated he was unable to disengage the cruise control system by depressing the brake pedal, and the vehicle continued to accelerate. The cruise control was manually disengaged by pressing the cruise control off button after pressing the brake pedal several times failed to disengage the system.

I was coming to a red light and let off the gas to coast before putting on my brakes(my dad taught me well to do this instead of being a quick braker to make my brakes last longer). At about 25mph my car began to accelerate back up to 30, then 35, then 40. I panicked. I pressed the brakes very hard but the rpm's were still rising and I could hear the engine still accelerating. I tried putting it into park, no luck. I then turned the car off while in park. Scary!!!! my kids were with me. Had I not been able to stop we'd have been killed while plowing into cross traffic traveling at 55mph or more! after restarting the car, it seemed better. Then 5 miles down the road it did it again. I drove it back home (8miles) with no incident. 2 days later while driving my son home from school, this episode repeated 4 times. With each "restart" it became more difficult to start the car and I had to wait (yes, in traffic) 5 minutes before starting the car again. I needed transmission work, took it in, $2000 rebuild. Told them about the issue and they could find nothing but hot maybe after the transmission work was done it would resolve. Not a chance. They are stumped as to what's wrong. They've checked the throttle body and parts. No codes come up. They've unhooked the cruise control. My husband drove it home this past weekend so a friend could look at it and see what he thought and my husband was driving on a long stretch of road with no stops and the car was driving at 50mph with him not pushing the gas pedal. Help!!! this is going to hurt or kill somebody.

Cruise control failed to disengage when brakes applied.
2005 Santa Fe 3. 5 bucks when cruise control disengaged at all speeds. Dealer ordered parts corrected problem at speeds under 60 by replacing body assembly throttle and gasket throttle b. Still bucks at speeds over 60 mph whether hitting brake or cancel button to disengage cruise. District service manager says all Santa Fe 3. 5's do this they are designed with the electronic control throttle. Bucking of car is so pronounced every one in the car feels it. I will never feel safe in this vehicle using the cruise over 60 and will never use it when other people are in the vehicle. Just because it was designed this way and they all do it does not make it right. I feel this is a severe safety issue with this model. I was told only the 3. 5's buck when the cruise is disengaged.

Cruise control does not always respond when accelerating. At times the car slows down to point that it is a hazard for us and any car near to us. There has been three occasions that accidents almost happened. In order to get it under control, the car has to coast to the side of the highway and set for a short period before I can continue. I have talked to the dealer on two occasions. The first time they told me that they had never hear of such a thing and they would call the factory. When I hadn't heard from them for quite a long time I returned to the same place. This time they didn't acknowledge that I had ever been in with a complaint.

The contact stated that while parking put the vehicle in reverse then drive and the tachometer went to the red zone. Although the contact's foot was on the brake the vehicle moved approximately 15 feet forward in 30 seconds. Then, he then the vehicle off and back on, and the problem was gone. This repeated a week later. He had the vehicle towed to the dealership, who determined that the battery was run down and needed to be replaced. The dealership was unable to diagnose the cause of the problem. They ruled out a cruise control because it has never been used. Update 1/4/2006 -.
On various occassions the spedometer will cease working while driving affecting the cruise control. Also, car sometimes feels like it's slipping out of gear while driving. Occassionally, while car is idling, car will shut down with no warning.
Throttle stuck on vehicle in a fast idle position. Control of vehicle was maintained by use of foot brake. Vehicle had 23020 miles and is a GLS with all wheel drive, date of manufacture was 13 Jan 01. No injuries, no property damage. Dealer replaced cruise control cable and stated that the cause was that the cable was misrouted. According to dealer the cable should not have been routed through a metal clip at right rear of surge tank/intake manifold. This clip is adjacent to the clip used to secure the gas pedal cable. The replacement cable appears to be shorter than the original cable as it is not long enough to be placed in the metal clip. The replacement cable used was part #96430-26110 and has a yellow label with "to2" on it.
Thr cruise control accelerates the car for no apparent reason. The automatic transmission jerks when shifting dislodging all passangers. The accelerater takes a few moments to get the car going. The problems with the transmission and the cruise control happen at all speeds, weather conditions and road conditions.
