Air Bag Problems of Hyundai Santa Fe - part 2

My horn isn't working as designed but when I push on steering wheel feels like it's cracking or breaking behind it. My front axels from factory were out of balance causing a vehicle vibration from 80+km/hr. Dealer thought it was tires not driveline. Different dealer diagnosed it as both axels in front. Issue was repaired once parts were available. Vibration still is evident but think its tires. Trying to get Hyundai to replace tires now as its consequential damage. In November 2023 I was involved in a accident where the front collision warning and assist system didn't engage properly as when it did inwas in the danger zone already. And when I applied the brakes the steering became stiff as to mimic loss of power steering. I couldn't turn out of the accident and couldn't avoid it. Have video of this on my dash cam. I have a warning light rhat comes up on my dash saying check turn signal dealership verified. They have ordered the icu junction box (fuse panel) but its been on a back order. Till February now. But no stored codes ever stay on my ecu or bcm.

I was recently involved in a front side swipe accident where a person ran a red light and hit me while I was passing through an intersection. The impact was all in the front of the vehicle where the air bag had deployed. The air bag caught on fire within seconds after it had deployed. Thankfully I was conscious to where I was able to unbuckle my seat belt quickly and someone came to my aid quickly enough to where I was able to exit the vehicle safely.

Took my car in for repair because I was told that my power steering pump and gaskets were bad. Upon further investigation it wasn’t neither. It was the power steering hose that goes from the power steering to the racket pinion. Both of the hoses had holes in them and were rusted out. Here Hyundai upgraded the power steering pump because of problems and I was never notified about the upgrade and you cannot purchase the hoses needed you have to purchase a whole new power steering pump that I don’t need. The airbag light is on and I couldn’t even order the airbag it was on back order when asked. The seat belt on the right passenger side in the back will not lock in place due to I don’t know what. Campaign 947 the under body corrosion treatment didn’t protect what it was suppose to causing my frame and control arms to go bad. I have had to replace upper and lower ball joints more than 4-5 times since I purchase this vehicle new from the dealership.

I am the original owner of a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe. It currently has less than 100,000 miles on it as I drive it infrequently. On June 12, 2023, my airbag light lit on the display and has since remained. I immediately contacted the local Hyundai dealership and made the next available appointment. I was concerned because I had recently completed the knock sensor detection system (ksds) service campaign on 4/3/2023. Initially, I took my vehicle to an auto repair facility where a diagnostic test determined my SUV had a b1620 error code and was advised to take it to a Hyundai dealership. My Hyundai appointment was on 6/23/2023. I shared the information about the error code with the technicians. The dealership confirmed I had a b1620 error code where the supplemental restraint system control module (srscm) shorted out. I also showed the dealership employees an extended warranty notification letter I received from Hyundai about faulty clock springs, but the dealer stated the module was completely separate and not part of the recall. The repair estimate was quite costly at around $2,600. From my understanding, the srscm controls all safety features. The dealership informed me the air bag light/error code means my entire safety system is completely disabled. This is not a mechanical issue but rather a safety red flag.

During the accident, the airbag in the steering wheel, barely deployed and threw sparks in the air. Passenger door airbag ruptured. I have pictures of the torn airbag. The cab of the vehicle filled with smoke and sparks came out around the steering wheel. Driver felt like their pants are on fire. To the best of my knowledge, there has been no inspection of the airbag system.

I pulled up into my grandma's driveway, put the car in park. The car continued moving forward and when I depressed the brake pedal, the car accelerated for some unknown reason. So I put both feet on the brake and it still continued to accelerate. My car crashed into my grandparents garage door, then into their car, then pushed their car into their washer and dryer, causing those appliances to push against the wall, breaking the structure, busting water lines, smashing the washer and causing damage.

Clock spring is defective/broken. This could be very dangerous as the airbag may not deploy in the event of an accident. Hyundai has used this exact part on other vehicles that have had issue and have recalled/extended the warranty to cover. Hyundai however won't fix this very dangerous issue on the Santa Fe and even wanted almost $200 just to look at the car even though the part is very obviously broken.

Air bag light stays on constantly while driving, have a possible recall notice received to replace the clock spring on driver side steering wheel. Brought the vehicle to twin cities Hyundai in alcoa, TN, last month and they denied the air bag issue. Now I am scheduled to go back on March 13th for the same issue. This is problematic and unsafe and I don't think that this dealership is taking it seriously enough for me. Please help me get this resolved with the dealer and with Hyundai USA so that they own up to these issues and pay for the repairs in full I should not be responsible to pay for known defects that go on for years without resolution. With no warning lights, no unusual sounds coming from engine (knocking, or otherwise) - complete engine shutoff. Driving on highway at 55-60mph during acceleration. I was able to coast to the side. Unable to restart engine for about 30 minutes. Engine able to restart, then shutoff again a few minutes later at 45mph. There have been reports of unusually high motor oil consumption with the theta 2 engine. There are no leaks, smells, smoke (from engine or exhaust) however, I must continuously add motor oil and check levels about every 100 miles. Oil level will reduce from max line to almost empty very quickly, maybe 1-3 weeks after refilling. All service maintenance is timely and done at authorized shops (goodyear and Hyundai dealership). Dealership will perform oil consumption test to determine if eligible for powertrain warranty. Further research shows Hyundai denied many claims related to this issue.

Front air bag did not deploy in accident. I was rearended in stopped position at 55+mph by a SUV that pushed me forward causing front end collision with the stopped car in front of me. Front, rear and back passenger damage with intrusion. Towed to dealer. Bought new from watermark Ford, marion, IL ~3 months ago, no recalls, no other accidents. I sustained neck, head and arm injuries requiring immediate medical attention. Crash report with illinois state police. Auto insurance has full details and adjuster inspecting. I have pics of my vehicle and the ones causing damage.

Front side airbags only came down maybe sun visor length. Broadsided a car that pulled out in front of me, I was going 55mph when I hit her and no time to brake. I am 5’4” and when I hit her my head hit below the bag and into the glass getting a concussion. This is a major safety factor. Progressive insurance claim #2279522958, VIN 5nms3cad5kh012053. I have not received police incident report yet.

At 1641, I was driving 55mph on tonganoxie rd with the right of way & no stop signed. The other driver did have a stop sign but did not yield and entered the intersection causing my vehicle to strike the middle of the passenger side and spinning my vehicle and stopped 90’ to my right facing the direction she was traveling. All of my air back opened and inflated properly, except the driver side airbag. Because of this, my head slammed into the glass window, which then threw up upper body towards the passenger side. Had I not had a seatbelt on I would have ended up there. Due to the kinetic impact to the window (airbag only inflated about 1/4 of the way) I suffered a tbi severe concussion, tore my upper ribs from the breast bone, whiplash to my neck and back. There was a recall for this exact vehicle and driver airbag issue but mine was not listed as being on it. It has been a month and I still have a lump and tenderness at the impact site, brain fog and severe headaches, neck and back pain causing my to out of work at leave without pay. The headaches are worsening a bad do not want anyone else hurt.

Air bag light on by itself without any incident.

Airbag light is constantly on from the time I start the car, until I turn it off, mechanic stated it was the passenger seatbelt buckle switch. I've seen many posts online about the same exact thing happening to them. It poses a safety threat, as the airbags are not going to go off.

The airbag light stays on constantly - mechanic says it's the switch in the passenger seat belt and they encounter this problem with this vehicle all the time. Prevents the airbag from deploying if not repaired.

Heavy oil consumption. Burning oil. Constant oil replacement needed. Airbag light stays on. Passenger air bag turns off when person is sitting in seat.

Have had a recurring issue with the airbag light illuminating. This has been ongoing since 2 years post purchase. Have had airbag replaced, multiple fuses, wiring harness replacement. All repairs end with the light returning. Am unsure of the reliability of the airbag in the event of a crash.

Visual red triangle code illuminated on the instrument cluster with the number 1 on the side of it. I used my obd2 reader (blue driver) to retrieve the 8 air bag codes. They were b1511 ,b1513, b1378, b1382, b1346, b1481, b14ae, b2618. Problem resulted after the cowl cross bar assembly (unpainted), also known as a crash bar, was replaced because of broken welds. It was replaced with a painted assembly that prevents access to secure ground for the air bags and seat belts. The assembly is used to provide support in case of a crash and also serves as a grounding bus bar for multiple devices, such as; air bags, seatbelts, instrument cluster, on board safety cameras, lane, backup warnings, etc. . .

The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 70,100.

Applied brakes rapidly and the air bag light came on. It became intermittently on and off after that. Took it to the dealership with the light off and asked them to investigate and this is their response. Ocs mat defect performed OCS mat reset. Recommend replace OCS mat if condition continues airbag light is now on continuously.

When my wife sits in the passenger seat the seat is so low she cannot see over the dashboard. When she uses a cushion the air bag off light goes on indicating she is not protected from collision. This is an obvious safety issue which my dealer claims to know nothing about and has no solution. Please contact Hyundai and have them address this issue.
