My 2009 Santa Fe's paint is peeling in large portions. It started on the driver's side door right below the window and has continued to crack and bubble all the way down the door. There has been no safety issues as of yet, but it will be a safety issue if I am driving and pieces or chunks of the paint fly off. If pieces or chunks fly off and land on my or another driver's windshield and blocks the ability of our vision it could be very dangerous and potentially cause an accident. I am not talking about little chips of paint here and there, I am talking about large size chunks. I know that I am not the only person who is having this issue, there are hundreds of people having this same issue and why there has not been a recall for this yet is blowing my mind. What is Hyundai waiting for a accident, a fatality? this is something that they need to make right, we work hard and when we purchase a vehicle for a lot of money and we take care of it so it will last us a long time and then the paint starts peeling all over the place and makes it look horrible not to mention it will begin to rust, how does Hyundai not feel obligated to fix it and make it right?.

This is a 2017 Santa Fe sport with pearl white paint. The paint has peeled in 5 different spots on the car. I have taken it in 2 different times to have it repainted. It was told many times by the service people that this is a known issue to Hyundai but that corporate wouldn't do anything about it. The first time, the dealership completely covered the costs of the paint job in good faith since it was out of warranty. The second time, I was required to pay 5% of the paint job. End of February 2023, I received a letter from Hyundai corporate acknowledging an issue with the paint. They extended my warranty coverage 6 years from the date of purchase. . . So I had 2 months (until April 2023) of extra coverage. Does not seem like too much of an "extended warranty". This is a known issue yet it is barely being taken care of by Hyundai. They need to stand behind their products. I should also state that currently, I have 3 more spots where the paint is peeling and I need to take it in. . . Again. . . For the third time.

I was at a traffic light (stopped) and all of a sudden my sunroof exploded with no rhyme or reason behind it and glass shattered everywhere on top of me. Nothing was thrown at it and no other vehicles were around me to have any debris thrown up onto it. I got out and inspected the sunroof and found that there was no object imbedded on, in, or near the sunroof that would lead me to believe anything hit it. I contacted the Hyundai dealership about this and they will not cover it under warranty. I believe this is a quality control issue with faulty engineering of the sunroof and upon looking at other Hyundai forums, I found that others have reported the same thing occurring to their vehicles of the same make and model and the pictures of their damage look identical to my damage.
While just entering the freeway my hood flew open at approximately 65-70 mph, hit and broke the windshield, causing me to run off the road. The vehicle exhibited no prior indications that the hood could fly up. The vehicle was taken to a Hyundai dealership and we were told that we needed to contact Hyundai customer care that the dealership could not do anything until a claims manger contacted them. Upon contacting customer care a claim number was assigned and the Hyundai claims manger eventually called saying that this defect is not covered under the recall 163 (TSB# 17-01-050 for secondary latch cable) because the manufacture date is 7/30/2016 and the recall dates are 7/12/2012 through 6/27/2016. This is only 33 days after the recall period ended and sounds like the Hyundai factory had an escape of a bad vehicle. I took pictures of the secondary latch cable, it shows corrosion, and uploaded to the Hyundai website at the advice of the customer care representative. After a lengthy period time the Hyundai clams manager reported, on a recorded line as he stressed, that his management did not see this as a warranty or goodwill repair and suggested that I make an insurance claim for the repair and for a rental car. My wife, mother in law and children were not physically injured but emotionally rattled. We've had no choice but to drive the vehicle, with the hood secured alternate diy means, as we awaited disposition by Hyundai. We now have no choice but to arrange both repair and loaner vehicle by ourselves. Again, the vehicle manufacture and recall date range are only 33 days apart - this smells of an escape from the Hyundai manufacturing plant. Also, isn't the purpose of the secondary latch to prevent the hood from flying up if the primary latch fails or is partially / false latched? please contact me if you need any additional information I. E. Claim number, claims manager name, etc.
Large sections of paint peeling from vehicle. Paint starts to bubble and then crack in large pieces. One section has peeled and flew onto the windshield while driving. Hyundai has recently had issues with this white color paint and it is continuing to be a problem. Report has been made to Hyundai with no resolution.

Pearl white 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe sport purchased from dealer in 2020- paint began peeling, bubbling, and chipping from hood badly in 2022 and has increased, now starting to spread to side panels. Issue confirmed by multiple2017-2018 elantra and Santa Fe owners in multiple places, multiple NHTSA complaints filed, class action lawsuit has been filed for the same issue with same make/model and VIN beginning (5nm). A white paint warranty extension launch has been issued by Hyundai assurance car care in December 2022, though consumers have complained that the dealers are making it exceedingly difficult to cover this known and widespread manufacturer issue; many dealers refuse to issue any coverage, or even reimbursement, many others offer only partial coverage. Most consumers are having to pay for the service in full, apply for reimbursement through Hyundai, and fight for extremely delayed full reimbursement. No recalls issued for this known and confirmed issue.

Paint is peeling/delaminating off the car in chunks - from the roof and the hood. Paint peeled off of the hood in a large chunk while I was driving, and got stuck on the windshield & caught up on the wipers while in use. This damaged the wipers and created a dangerous situation, as it blocked my vision while driving. The paint peels off and flies off the car in chunks and can land on another car windshield as well and block their view. I brought the car to the dealer years ago when the paint first starting peeling, and was told it was just past the warranty and there was nothing they could do. I read online that there was a class action suit on this exact issue and it has been a problem for many, many years and Hyundai continues to manufacture this paint despite being aware of the problem. I contacted Hyundai corporate to report this issue, and they said there is nothing they can do. So I have decided to report the issue to warn other drivers, as the last chunk that peeled off became a safety hazard. Note: car was only used occasionally, has very low mileage, and is garaged for a portion of the year. The paint should not be in this condition - it is defective. I paid extra for this particular pearl white paint when I purchased the car new - it was an upgrade, presented as self-healing paint.
Liftgate is unable to be opened from outside, on button press it just beeps three times.
While driving at 70 mph the rear panel of the panoramic sunroof in my 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe exploded. We were not near other traffic or other sources of debris that could have impacted the glass. There was a very loud 'boom' sound, like a gunshot, and then the crackling sound of broken glass. Thankfully the sunshade was drawn and glass shards did not fall into the passenger compartment. Within a short amount of time large pieces of glass began to fall out creating a very heavy load on the fabric sunshade. We were able to collect enough of the large pieces by hand and remove them before the shade tore or otherwise failed creating an even larger hazard. Our 1 year old child was in his car seat directly below the failure -- had the shade been open, or had large pieces of glass fell before we could pull over and remove them he could have been seriously injured. Online research points that this is not an isolated incident and there is a pattern of this happening on recent model Hyundai/kia products with panoramic sunroofs -- there is a class action lawsuit in canada targeting Hyundai's lack of ownership of the problem. Hyundai dealerships and corporate were contacted to inspect and repair under warranty but were unwilling to do so in a reasonable timeframe (2+ month wait time). Vehicle was ultimately repaired by a body shop through our insurance company. There were no indications that this was a problem prior to the event.
The back driver side child safety lock is stuck between on and off and the door will not open. I am an uber driver. If there was an accident a passenger might get trapped inside.

This car is equipped with a panoramic roof that opens both all the way and tilts for ventilation. While driving 70 mph (posted speed limit) on I-95 in north carolina in March, we had the roof tilted open. The sky was sunny, and the temperature was about 70 degrees. The roof spontaneously exploded, sending glass particles through out the inside of the car. The car did not collide with any object; the roof just shattered on its own. I was able to safely maintain control of the car, and pulled off at the next intersection. I was able to find a vacuum in a short amount of time to clean out the shattered glass.

The contact owns a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while reversing out of his driveway at 1 mph, the front end on the passenger’s side of the vehicle collapsed almost causing the wheel to detach. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. There was no injury sustained. The contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the control arm and ball joint had shattered. The contact stated that the vehicle remained at the dealer awaiting the arrival of the replacement part. The manufacturer was contacted and provided the contact a case number. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.
Passenger front and driver side rear door handle breaking off. Normal pulls have cause the handle to come in hand.
While driving on the highway, the front pane of the panoramic sunroof spontaneously shattered. No contact from a foreign object was observed or heard prior to the breakage. The roof was closed, thus our family avoided any glass showering down into our cabin, but this would have been catastrophic had it happened with the roof open. This problem has happened to prior year models of the Santa Fe. Hyundai dealership has agreed to repair the broken sunroof at no cost, however, does not admit fault with the manufacture of the glass.
My sunroof exploded while I was sitting in a driveway. The glass from the sunroof flew off as drove down the road when I left as well and this is equally as dangerous. This glass is not safe. My sunroof was shut and I was in the drive way so I was not at risk but this could have played out differently. I have been waiting for since 7/6/21 for Hyundai corporate offices to contact me back. I have been told to not do anything until a case manager contacts me. I have not been provided a car to drive or any help by the dealer. The dealer told me they do not do body work and not to bring the car to them. I had no warning.
I was driving on the freeway with the sunroof closed when I heard a very loud bang. I pulled off to check the exterior but saw nothing. I drive for about an hour more when it started sounding like the sunroof was open. I pulled over to check it, and it was destroyed. . Shattered with a large hole in it. Called Hyundai who said report to insurance even though the car is less than 1 month old.
The rear passenger door will not open either from the inside or outside. This happened out of the blue. Car is a 2015. . . And not covered under warranty. In researching many people have had the same problem with Hyundai models and years. We have talked with the dealership, taken it to a locksmith (couldn't open with a slim jim and an independent that used to work for Hyundai who said he would have to destroy the panel to get inside to check the assembly and repair. Definitely a safety issue if a fast exit is needed. Hyundai forums have the issue being asked about frequently involving one door or with multiple doors.

Panoramic sunroof exploded over my head while I was driving, just starting to merge on the freeway.
Brought my vehicle in for a alignment and they discovered the rusted and corradiated rear left trailing control arm on my 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe, I brought to dealership after that to get a recall and the told me that since the vehicle was bought in nd and that state is not included in the recall they will decline the work, even thou minn. Is right next door like I live about 1 mile to mn they still wouldn't except the recall, it is obvious the part that is on recall fits my car, when looking on the right side arm there is no rust or corrosion. The dealer states it is not safe to drive vehicle, because the arm is starting to bend also. So what do I do now, it will be very costly to fix,.

My 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe had sudden unintended acceleration while I was trying to park the car in the parking lot. It suddenly crossed over the parking cement block and jumped into the sidewalk landscape and then stopped. The airbag also deployed due to this incident. I did not step on the gas pedal.
I was backing up to turn around and as I was turning my steering wheel I heard and felt very loud pulsing thumps coming from the front of the vehicle. I got out and saw my drivers side front wheel was leaning out from the vehicle. The arm broke of from my wheel also I found out when I had it repaired the axel also broke!! good thing I wasn't on a highway or driving I or others might have been hurt or worse!!!.
Prior to contacting NHTSA we contacted Hyundai and informed them that the bottom of the vehicle has rusted through and we can see the bottom of the interior in this vehicle when the car is on a lift (this was pointed out to us by a third party repair shop and not the dealer). It appears that Hyundai may be concealing data from NHTSA regarding corrosion problems on its vehicles. What is clear is that Hyundai is shirking its safety obligations and will not cover corrosion, regardless of whether it is functional or safety, if the warranty has expired. Based on prior dealings with NHTSA I know that recalls are not limited to the warranty period if vehicle safety is in question. When we contacted Hyundai, their excuse for why the vehicle had a massive hole in the undercarriage was that the vehicle is driven primarily in illinois and illinois uses salt on the roads in winter. If I'm not mistaken, more than half of the vehicles in the us are driven on roads that are salted in the winter. This excuse is simply not acceptable and perhaps NHTSA needs to prohibit Hyundai from selling vehicles in the northern half of the us if this is going to be Hyundai's attitude. I've never had this problem with any other manufacturer.
On June 14,2020, I backed out of a parking spot in a lot outside a grocery store and my Hyundai Santa Fe suddenly accelerated back hitting a barrier pole. When I put it in drive, it leapt forward and sped between a poke and a parked car, raced down a ten-foot embankment and crashed into the corner of a brick building. I later learned that this was called sudden unintended acceleration and that the brakes do not work when sua happens. It was all over within seconds and I had no time to act. My car was completely totaled and I suffered rib cage and sternum contusions from the seat belt. The air bag did not deploy. My car scraped the parked car and my insurance company paid for that damage.

Driving a rental car at 4:30 a. M. On country road attempting to catch our flight back home. After driving approx. 20 minutes, headlights went out and dashboard lights. We had no visibility, attempted to stop vehicle, left pavement and struck a tree. During our week rental of this vehicle we did have issues with SUV losing power when climbing a hill, but not a steep one at all. SUV would drop at least 10 mph when doing so. Not sure if these two issues are related at all.

The paint is peeling off, started a couple of years ago, but its getting worse and worse. I jsut read about this recall that was issued. Needed to know what can be done. The front is peeled, so I added a hood front end bra, and have peeling spots all around. I try to wash only with soft water so it will not peel as much. I added a picture of the front with the bra, but if needed I will send one without. This picture was sent to my insurance. "Hyundai paint peeling recall explained the Hyundai paint peeling recall was issued in 2016 due to a defect in the exterior paint finish of certain Hyundai models. This defect caused the paint to peel or bubble on the affected vehicles, leaving them with an unsightly appearance. Affected models and years include the Santa Fe sport (2013-2016), sonata (2015-2016), tucson (2011-2016), elantra gt (2013-2016), and azera (2012-2016). ".
Recall 17v358000 (issued 6/30/2017) for secondary hood latch not securing hood and causing hoods to fly open if the primary is not properly secured. Vehicle serviced 8/21/2017 (53,633 miles). Recently went for an emissions test. Technician pulled the primary hood release but neglected to open/close the hood. Accelerated on a secondary road up to approx. 35 mph and my hood flew open. Dvr showed the technician released but did not open/close the hood. Shop accepted liability and auto body shop is replacing/painting hood/pillars. Inspection of the secondary hood latch found the release handle and latch to be seized in the open position due to corrosion. The recall "fix" did not fix anything. Hyundai corporate notified (case: 16847464). Current odometer is 100,418 miles. Incident occurred 2/20/2020. No injuries. $3,000+ in damages per invoice. Cell phone video taken to document seized latch and the ability to open hood with primary latch released only. More images available upon request.
I am the perspective buyer of this used car currently at a dealer for sale. Carfax report indicates two recalls on the car. On 2/17/20, salesperson called Hyundai inc about the fuel leak recall being fixed if I purchase the car first and then take the car to a Hyundai dealership to fix the recall. Is this proper procedure in purchasing a used car? the car is currently being offered for sale at a savannah, GA, critz mercedez dealership. Salesperson provided a carfax report that indicated recent service on the car the dealership provided. However, the described recall had not been remedied which I brought it to the attention of the salesperson who then called a Hyundai dealership. I was told Hyundai would fix the issue and extend the warranty another 40,000 miles. Should I be concerned about buying this car based on the salesperson requiring purchase first before the car is fixed?.
My car is siting in park, running with the driver's door open in my town house parking lot. I get out of my car to open the passenger's back door as well as my trunk for her. I then get back into the driver's seat. I am waiting on my friend to load her items into my new Santa Fe for an out of town retreat. She finishes loading items and proceeds to get into the passenger side front seat. As she is getting into the car, "she says she needs to go to the bathroom". I tell her let's go now before we get started on our trip. We were suppose to be meeting about 10 college students. So I get out of my car since I have the house keys. My car is still in park and running. I do leave my driver's door open about a 20-25 degree angle. My friend walks around the back of the car. As we are walking toward my townhouse, I turn around because I hear a noise. I immediately see my car not rolling but backing up on a small incline upward across my parking lot. It seems to have picked up speed and then hits the back of a parked car in the parking lot. My car hits the parked gray camry with so much momentum that it butterflies my driver's door completely open and the car never slows down. The car continues moving while the inside of my driver's door scrubs the parked camry. After my car moves past the camry it is still moving at an accelerated rate. I am yelling and running to my car with my keyfob trying to push buttons to get it to stop. My friend is running and chasing my car. She is able to get to my car and jump in where she pushes on the brakes very hard to make the car stop. If she had not been able to do that my car would have hit a parked black truck or would have jumped the sidewalk and ran into a townhouse before it stopped. Once my friend got the car to stop. She looked down and it was still in park and was not making the dinging noise it usually does when it is in reverse.
Involved in a crash on 12/30 totally my vehicle being hit in the front right. None of the airbags deployed. Not happy at all , seems to be a common problem with this vehicle.
