36 Steering problem of the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 04/11/2024

While driving the blind spot safety system, driver attention warning system, and lane following system malfunction at the same time, and the vehicle loses power steering. The first time this occured was in the parking lot of an elementary school in April 2024. I was driving less than 2mph and the vehicle had less than 8,000 miles on it. The dealer said they would be unable to diagnose unless they witnessed the errors. The second time it occured was in may 2024 while driving on the interstate at around 75mph. The vehicle was driven directly to the dealership who kept it for four weeks. They said the connections to the ecu were severely corroded, sanded them down, and added a water protectant. The third time it occured was a month later. The dealership has had the vehicle for two weeks with no diagnosis. Losing power steering suddenly while driving is incredibly dangerous, especially in a vehicle of this size and weight. It is difficult to control the vehicle without power steering, and in all cases there have been other vehicles/people in the area who could have been injured.

39 Steering problem of the 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/01/2024

I drive a 2014 sante fe sport. I noticed a clicking noise when turning the steering wheel. Initially, I heard it once in a while. I thought it was a one-time event. The clicking noise is more constant, when making a turn while the car is in motion. Sometimes the steering wheel feels 'loose' or uncontrollable. It seems to be an issue with the steering coupler. It seems as this is a safety concern for me and others while driving.

43 Steering problem of the 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 12/01/2023

My power steering failed without notice while driving. This has happened several times. The first time I just happened to need to pull off the highway because my 4 year old had to go to the bathroom and couldn't hold it. It went out as soon as I exited the highway and entered the parking lot. The steering became very hard and heavy to move and then just locked up. If I hadn't gotten of the highway when I did it would have happened while driving on the highway with my two young sons which could have resulted in a bad accident. I had no prior warning. It just happened unexpectedly. We thought maybe it was the battery so we replaced the battery with a brand new one but about a month later it happened again when I was backing out of my garage. I was afraid of driving it so I just parked it back in the garage. It is available for inspection. It has not been inspected by anyone yet. The problem just started about a month ago.

50 Steering problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/25/2023

I am having a serious issue with my car that mechanics are unable to figure out. On multiple occasions, while driving at low speed in preparation for making a turn, my car has completely shut off, making it impossible for me to steer, brake or accelerate. I lost all control of my vehicle. I noticed the ‘check engine’ and ‘battery’ lights illuminated each time, but this information, along with incident descriptions, has proven less than helpful when I’ve taken it into a shop for inspection/repair as mechanics have been unable to reproduce the event or to accurately identify the problem. This has happened on the road (at intersections and once at a traffic circle) and on two occasions while I had a passenger in the vehicle with me. I currently have my vehicle back in an auto shop because it happened most recently about a week ago. However, since the problem has yet to be successfully identified and since I feel as though this is a serious safety issue that could impact others with the same type of vehicle, I am filing this official complaint.

51 Steering problem of the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/18/2023

The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 23v651000 (service brakes, hydraulic) which he related to the failure; however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

53 Steering problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/15/2023

Took my car in for repair because I was told that my power steering pump and gaskets were bad. Upon further investigation it wasn’t neither. It was the power steering hose that goes from the power steering to the racket pinion. Both of the hoses had holes in them and were rusted out. Here Hyundai upgraded the power steering pump because of problems and I was never notified about the upgrade and you cannot purchase the hoses needed you have to purchase a whole new power steering pump that I don’t need. The airbag light is on and I couldn’t even order the airbag it was on back order when asked. The seat belt on the right passenger side in the back will not lock in place due to I don’t know what. Campaign 947 the under body corrosion treatment didn’t protect what it was suppose to causing my frame and control arms to go bad. I have had to replace upper and lower ball joints more than 4-5 times since I purchase this vehicle new from the dealership.

54 Steering problem of the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/06/2023

I was driving on a road approaching a right turn to enter into my neighborhood that has a 3 way intersection where only cars exiting the neighborhood have a stop sign. I turned my right turn signal on as I began to slow down and approach the turn (without stopping as there is no stop sign for my path). As I was about 1/4 way into the turn, an alert for either lane keep assist or driver assistance warning appeared and the steering wheel suddenly could not turn and I was forced to drive straight. Luckily, there was no car waiting at the stop sign or I would have hit them. I hit the brakes and was on the wrong side of the road pointed towards the curb. I saw multiple error messages for lane keep assist and drivers assisted warning but could still not turn the wheel. I slowly drove the car forward, wrestling the wheel to turn enough so I could park on the wrong side of the road. I tried putting the car in park and then drive again but it did not help. I turned the car off and on and the errors cleared and I could turn the wheels again. I then proceeded to slowly start driving home and less than 1/4 mile later as I was rounding a gentle curve (I did not use any turn signals), the same error occurred and I suddenly could not turn the wheel so I slammed the brakes and stopped in the middle of the road. I again turned the car off and on to reset and proceeded to drive the remaining 1/4 mile home and park in my driveway. I immediately contacted the Hyundai dealer and was recommended to have the car towed to the local dealer as it was unsafe to drive. Upon towing the car to the closest dealer, I was able to back the car off the tow truck and park it. While parking, the steering locked up again and I took the attached pictures of the error messages and showed the technician. The dealers in the area all indicated they were so backed up they could not diagnose the car immediately. I called Hyundai to open a case. It has been 2 weeks and they still have not diagnosed the car.

55 Steering problem of the 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 05/06/2023

Steering has clicking noise when turning. I believe this is related to the mdps (motor driven power steering) flexible rubber coupler. Similar issue exists for certain model of Hyundai sonata and elantra, which resulted in extended warranty. Https://static. Nhtsa. Gov/odi/tsbs/2017/mc-10110926-9999. Pdf I believe the issue is the same part that Hyundai offered extended warranty on. I feel excessive vibration on the steering wheel during 70mph speed on a highway and going over bumps. I feel unsafe driving my 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe sport with this issue. Please investigate. Thanks!.

The car has a steering defect. The defect causes the car to wonder from lane to lane requiring the driver to constantly make corrections. This is especially dangerous when you are between two vehicles. The car has been back to the dealer numerous times and they state that there is no problem with the steering. Hyundai national claims claims that the defect does not exist.

59 Steering problem of the 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 04/26/2023

When im driving down the road and the slightest bump is on yhe side of the road, the truck feels like its not connected to the framing or the wheels or something because when I hit the bump it jerks the wheels to the right and that's the only side it does it on and it does it so abruptly at times it almost pushes me into another car or it jerks the steering wheel out of my hands. Im not sure if theres a recall thats causing this or not but my mom has a vehicle like mine but a 2011 model and hers does the same thing on the right side.

60 Steering problem of the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/24/2023

These Hyundai's & kia's are being stolen left & right across the nation. . . . Hyundai needs to fix our vehicle with an alarm system. We haven't heard anything!!! we owe on the car and if it gets stolen or ruined, we still will have to pay on this vehicle. Also, on top of it all, it will be ruined; and from what we see on tv, they can't even get the parts to fix them. Our SUV is not worth anything now due to those stealing these vehicles because of the tic toc videos. Those videos should be banned anyway and taken off so no one else can learn to do this horrible theft. If we can ever get another vehicle, it won't be a Hyundai. This has made us very upset that we haven't heard anything from Hyundai nor there seems to be nothing happening regarding this issue. Why isn't the government pressuring this company? we don't see anything being done.

61 Steering problem of the 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/12/2023

While driving the car experienced a catastrophic engine failure as well as loss of steering and brakes. Was able to get to the side of the road without injury. This could have resulted in injury or loss of life if the drivetrain would have locked up. The vehicle is at the dealer now, after a 250-mile tow. The dealer said that they have eight cars at their dealership with the same blown engine issue. No warning lights came on prior to the incident.

62 Steering problem of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/07/2023

The engine throttles while accelerating and leaks oil and a burning smell comes from under the hood. The smell passes through the air vents and fills the car. I am afraid it might catch fire under the hood. The suspension makes noise and can also feel on the steering wheel. I will appreciate the company if they take safety measures in fixing this issue.

63 Steering problem of the 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/07/2023

I received a notice of recall on the abs for my Hyundai Santa Fe 2014 sport. My abs light recently illuminated, I went to the Hyundai site to make an appt. I was given one a week out, while waiting for the appt my brake lights wouldn’t turn off unless I disconnected the battery. I took the vehicle to the dealership in brevard FL, the guy kept trying to upsell me $180 for diagnostics and that I had to pay it for every light on. Which I explained had all happened since the abs light. I was there for 4 hours and I asked him to fix the abs he didn’t said he didn’t have time and I had to reschedule. I had to wait another week, I took it to a friend who is a certified mechanic. He put it on his diagnostic computer and it kept coming back with abs code. Said he couldn’t do the brakes until that was fixed. Went back this week, didn’t ask me anything when I pulled in, not even an hour later said my vehicle was done come get it. He handed me a quote of $1300 for brakes. I asked if I paid that would it fix the abs he said no, but ur vehicle is not safe to drive. I explained I know, it wasn’t safe last week and you didn’t help me. I was able to get my vehicle to nearby brake-shop. I explained everything that happen, they also ran diagnostics and said it was abs that they couldn’t fix it either until the dealership fixed the abs. Now my vehicle is stuck at brake-shop and I just started a new job and have already had to miss two days work. I am completely dumbfounded as to why I am getting the run around and no one wants to help. I deplore having to complain, however it feels as though there is no more customer service/satisfaction.

64 Steering problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/01/2023

While I was driving home, I went to make a turn and I heard a cracking noise and it felt like the steering wheel went one way and the frame was going the opposite way. I drove very slowly to a service station and when they looked at it they said they couldn't believe I drove the car without getting into an accident, they said the car was undrivable because the frame broke, they went on to say it was due to rust. I'm a 2nd owner and when I called the Hyundai corporate headquarters they informed me there was a recall #947 Santa Fe underbody corrosion. I was told I should've received the recall when I received the new registration, I never received the recall, where do I stand with getting my car repaired, is Hyundai responsible to do the repair, I left a message with the service group at the dealership and haven't received a response yet.

65 Steering problem of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 02/14/2023

On February 14, 2023 while driving steering wheel broke (steering component failed) and had to stop at nearest repair station and was told not safe to drive. It was making clicking noise when turning wheel and backing out of a parking space. Next day had it towed to Hyundai and said the steering component in dashboard fell and metal crash bar was completely broken. They suggested I go through my insurance company because they didn’t know how it happened and said it was from a road hazard or pot hole I hit, but that was not the case and the insurance investigator did not see any signs of a collision and said it was probably a faulty part. What concerns me most is that if I was driving at high speeds on a highway it could have been very dangerous to loose my steering and cause a bad accident. I’m not sure how long my steering wheel was broken because I did hear noises but just thought it was the steering adjustment bar wasn’t in the lock position. It’s very disturbing to think I could have gotten killed. Hyundai doesn’t seem to want to acknowledge that it could be a manufacturer default and a safety issue on there part because the car is out of warranty. They don’t what to tell me what caused the problem of the steering column to fall and the metal bar to break. I’m the original owner and the car is kept in excellent condition with no neglect for this safety issue to happen for no apparent reason is very concerning. The repair fix the problem will cost $5,000. I did research the issue and found that there was a safety recall for faulty steering columns on 2017 Santa Fe models and could cause a bad accident. I would like to report this issue and find out if anyone else reported the issue with their 2013 model. I would like to know if the following recall on the 2017 Hyundai santafe could be somehow connected to my steering column issue: recall 173. Nhtsa campaign number: 18v11800.

67 Steering problem of the 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/01/2023

I have noticed for the past year that my steering column feels loose. It makes a popping noise and really makes noise on rough pavement. I feel like the steering wheel is just gonna come off into my hands. It's very loose to turn and you can feel the pops within the steering wheel. I took my car to local repair shop and they told me there was a recall and that I should take to dealer. I called dealer but my VIN # is not listed within the actual recall. However I read the recall itself and that is what is happening to my Hyundai. It makes no sense that my exact VIN # would not be included in recall since I am having that problem.

69 Steering problem of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 12/14/2022

The car started to make a clicking sound coming from the steering wheel whether straight or turning. The wheel was shaking and there was some wiggle with steering. I was hours from home and did not feel safe driving the vehicle. Left it at a non-Hyundai repair shop. Was told the next day it was an issue with the plastic coupler in the steering column and Hyundai had a recall on it. Drove it home and brought it to my local dealer where we have all our repairs done. Was told there's no recall. After reading the exact same complaint by so many people on here and other online places I was shocked there was no recall for this issue. Others have stated Hyundai did recalls on some of their other vehicles for just this part/problem.
