36 Warning Light On problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 05/30/2010

On may 2010 the air bag warning indicator light on my dashboard suddenly illuminated and would not go out even when the vehicle was in operation. Got an appointment and took my 2009 santafe limited awd v6 into the dealer and here's the narrative from the dealer: "customer states his air bag light is on present code b1334 f15 front impact sensor error in history cleared code verified to be ok" there were no repairs completed, only the error code was cleared. About 3 weeks after the code was cleared the air bag warning light began to illuminate again during driving and would stay on for about 20 seconds at a time, while driving, and then go off. This occurred on two occasions. Today, August 3, 2010 the air bag warning light illuminated again, while driving, and did not go off. It remains on. I will be returning back to the dealer.

38 Warning Light On problem of the 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/04/2010

On January 4, 2010 I had the vehicle battery replaced. After battery installation the airbag warning light came on and remained on. On Jan. 11 I paid $87 to have a diagnostic test which incorrectly indicated that all airbags had been deployed plus a crash was recorded. Mechanic's recommendation was to have srs control module replaced at an estimated cost of over $400.

39 Warning Light On problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/28/2009

Airbag system (passenger side) doesn't always "sense" the occupant accurately, in a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. The vehicle's front-passenger "airbag off" warning light came on whenever a small adult was in the seat, or would intermittently turn off depending on the person's sitting position. This affects my 125 pound wife who by Hyundai's test is considered a person of "smaller stature. " I was told 130 lbs is the minimum weight to enable the airbag but again depending on her sitting position, the light will go on and off. The same system works fine in a 2009 Hyundai sonata in which she would be protected. Why is there a difference?.

40 Warning Light On problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 05/06/2009

The contact owns a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe. While driving approximately 60 mph the "passenger air bag off" warning light indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. The warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. The front passenger seat was occupied with a small stature adult. The air bag sensor does not detect a certain weight positioned in the front passenger seat. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the technician stated that the design and the air bag system was functioning properly. The manufacturer was notified; however, there were no resolutions. The contact has concerns of the safety risk involved. The failure mileage was 2,000 and the current mileage was 4,500. Updated 10/13/09. The consumer stated his wife weighed roughly 125. The passenger side air bag was off no matter how she sat in the passenger seat. Updated 10/15/09.

43 Warning Light On problem of the 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/25/2008

The air bag red warning light came on in 9/08. The dealer scanned the system, cleared historic codes, cycled through self test several times. Codes did not reset. Light came back on in 1/09. I will take vehicle back to dealer. My opinion is that safety equipment should be more reliable . When the red light initially came on they couldn't find a problem but I will be charged appx. $600 when they fix the problem.

44 Warning Light On problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 05/02/2008

Air bag warning light came on and remained on. First incident, may 2008. I have brought the car to the dealer three times for repair operations, and a few more times for diagnostic checks, but the problem persists. Attempts at repair have included replacement of the front passenger seat and the air bag system control module. Some of those repair operations seemed to work for a while, but the problem keeps returning.

45 Warning Light On problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/25/2007

The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai sante fe. The contact stated that the passenger side air bag off warning light continued to illuminate. The dealer advised that the occupant of the passenger seat must weigh 110 pounds or more in order for the air bag to engage. The contact was concerned because for a small statured person, the air bag would not engage if needed. The dealer advised the contact that they were unable to make repairs to adjust to a person's weight. In addition, the contact stated if on a slight incline, the emergency brake would not engage. The dealer advised the contact that the failure was normal in his specific year, make and model. The vehicle was not repaired for either failure. The failure mileage was approximately 105 and the current mileage was 34,688.

48 Warning Light On problem of the 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 12/06/2006

I own a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe in which the air bag warning light was illuminated starting in December 2006. At which time the air bag "clock spring" was replaced under warranty on 12/6/2006 at 33,154 miles. The second occurrence was in March, 2011. I was told it was the "clock spring" again, which was now not under warranty, and would cost of around $285. 00. This was not replaced due to a suggestion from the dealer's service department mechanic. The indicator was reset and has been off for over a year. The most recent occurrence was in may 2012 (mileage approx. 88,500), the airbag light came on again and now I'm told it needs a new airbag at a cost of around $750. 00!! the indicator was reset and air bag not replaced the light stayed off for approximately 3 months. A search on the internet revealed hundreds of "posts" on this very same problem (most of them on the national highway traffic safety administration's (NHTSA) website). Hyundai Santa Fe's have had this problem for nearly 10 years! and, to make matters worse, replacing either the clock spring or the airbag apparently does not guarantee that the airbag will deploy, thus causing a very dangerous situation. I also noticed that there was a recall (#103) for the 2007-2008 models. This recall should have included all Santa Fe's not just two years. Apparently, this problem is a manufacturing defect not a normal wear & tear issue.
