Carrier/rack Problems of Hyundai Sonata - part 2

On August 8, 2014 at approximately 5:00pm, my vehicle was parked on a flat gravel driveway. Front tires were still turned right from initial parking of car. I got in the car and started it when I realized I had left something in the house and exited the car while it was running and in park. Within 2 minutes, while I was exiting the house, I heard a ¿thud� and saw the car backed up against a pine tree on the property. The car had traveled in a ¿u� pattern approximately 100¿ before hitting the tree. Entering the car to turn it off, I see that that shifter is in park; I turned off the car so that I could assess the damage of the car and see if I could drive it from where it had stopped. I started the car; drove forward about 20¿, turned off the car and looked at the damage to the rear quarter panel of the car. The left muffler is pushed in, the bumper cracked, the tail light (still operational) cracked. Rear quarter panel seems to have buckled, I am unable to determine any damage to the under-carriage. The trunk still opens and closes without problem, but there is substantial damage to the rear driver¿s side of the car. The car is driveable; but am fearful the car is a danger to me, my family and anyone who could be near the car. A call was placed to Hyundai and a complaint filed (1-800-633-5151). I have learned that there is a recall notice for Hyundai Sonatas regarding shift cables disengaging and I am awaiting the paperwork packet from Hyundai to complete my complaint in writing so that I can see if this make/model is part of the recall.

The dashboard on the passenger side has two large cracks in it. It is very unsightly and should not have occurred. The cracks are becoming larger with time.

Chrome interior door handle. The chrome on the handle is cracking at the chrome edge. It has a sharp edge and cut my passengers hand. I had this handle replaced under warranty once before for this issue and now it is having the same issue as before. They have a recall on the 2002 - 2003 Sonatas personally I don't think they fixed anything and this should be included for the recall as well.

Dashboard is cracking and has been for a year and a half. My boyfriend's friend has the same car, same year and his is worse than mine. My concern is this is where airbag is located.

Lowering the driver side sun visor made a crackiling noise then the visor would not stay in a fixed position up or down. Currently, I taped it up to old it out of my field of vision for driving until I can get it to the dealer. I certainly hope this is covered unter the 5 yr bumper to bumper warranty.

Severely cracked dashboard.

Driving home one night car pulled to the left tire almost was off the car thank goodness that I was not traveling fast and not on a highway and my children were not in the car . Find out that my cross member in the rear of my car had snapped now this is a car that is garage kept and to the car dearler that I had bought it from brand new and suppose to check it with a 10 point system everytime I get the coupon in the mail which is about every 4 - 6 months was never seen the crack from reading the internet thisn is not the 1 st car to do this . Please try to get this problem corrected . Please make this car safer before someone gets killed thank you !.

Both my 2007 Hyundai Sonata's sun visors have now broke. The first occurrence was several years ago on the passenger side, after which, the visor would not stay up and would fall in the vision of the passenger. Just this month, however, the same thing happened on the drivers side. This is very hazardous, especially if it were to happen while traveling on a major highway. The problem seems to be with the assemnly of the visors, which crack at the elbow which is used to move the visor around as needed. After this happens the visor then will not stay up when returned to the original position.

The drivers side visor made a cracking sound as it was lowered. Now visor will not stay in the up position.

In-dash oe cd changer made cracking sound when first cd was inserted and displayed mech error message on display. Never used before. Had ipod connection so never used the infinity disc changer till many months after purchase.

We noticed a crack starting in the passenger side dashboard where the airbag was located. The crash pad was replaced on 9/29/06 under warranty. A new crack started in 2010 which continued to expand & spread. On 10/12/11, we returned to the dealership and they verified the situation. However, we were told that because the vehicle was now "off warranty," regardless that it was in the exact same location as the original problem, they could not re-address the issue unless we paid for the repair first & then could be considered under the "good will consideration policy". We strongly objected to this policy, but were told that nothing further could be done. It is now 12/4/14, and the crack has become so severe that air bag light has come on, creating a potential safety concern for the passenger. We know that we are not alone with this particular problem as we have personally spoken with other 2006 Sonata owners that have experienced this same issue.
