This vehicle and model have a defective engine; I have made several attempts since I purchased this vehicle from the dealership to have this issue corrected, and nothing has been done. This is a very common issue with this particular engine, and it is a well-known problem; there are several class action suits regarding this engine, and the manufacturers still have no resolution for it. The vehicle requires constant new oil in between oil changes and has been like that since new. The engine burns oil, and it is not going anywhere, nooen seems to know.

I am writing to bring to your attention a critical issue affecting my 2016 Hyundai Sonata 4 door sedan, that warrants investigation and public awareness. Hyundai cars are currently plagued by engine oil consumption problems that ultimately lead to engine failure, due to there being no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. This is a concerning issue that remains largely unknown to most customers. When these issues arise, car owners such as myself, are often left with uncooperative dealerships that either deny the problem or offer minimal assistance. Even Hyundai corporate and extended warranties fail to provide adequate support, frequently citing owner negligence as a reason for denial. This occurs despite the fact that engine sludge buildup is inevitable, even with consistent car maintenance. Furthermore, I am forced to endure long waiting times for my 2016 Hyundai Sonata 4 door sedan, that has been inspected and, then denied for an engine replacement, and face additional months of delay for them to explain why. The situation is exacerbated by the lack of loaner vehicles and no assurance of rental reimbursement. This leaves countless individuals burdened with repair payments for stranded vehicles. My personal experience has been with ourisman Hyundai, and many others have voiced similar grievances. Numerous complaints have been filed with the better business bureau (bbb) and the national highway traffic safety administration (nhsta), yet little action has been taken to aid the thousands of people who are experiencing the same problems to rectify this issue. It is imperative that attention is drawn to this matter as Hyundai's approach to selling cars with hidden engine issues puts customers at safety risk and places them in dire and deadly harm. I implore all news media outlets to conduct an investigation into these concerns and help shed light on a situation that demands immediate attention.

Car is leaking oil and burning oil . . Had oil changed recently and it is below the full mark.

I already replaced my engine because the car always burned alot of oil. I never had a oil leak but I had to constantly add oil to the car a couple of times a month. After replacing the engine I drove the car for about 4 months. The car started stalling on me (no warning lights) then would start back up after a few tries. This last time I drove the car I was driving my car on a main busy road. I stopped at a red light waiting for it to turn green. The light turned green, I went to proceed and the car just stalled on me again. No warning lights or anything to give me an indication that the car was having issues. I tried to re-start the car and it wouldnt start. I had to get my vehicle towed to a mechanic shop. It has currently been in the shop for about a month now and the mechanic is having a hard time trying to figure out what's wrong with the car. I was told previously that there were recalls on the engine but everytime I call the Hyundai dealerships they tell me there are no recalls for my vehicle. I have already paid atleast $3,500 in repairs and still having issues.

Oil is leaking from the turbo oil feed hose onto the hot engine, hot exhaust and engine undercover that has a potential for a fire hazard in addition to toxic fumes from oil burning seeping into the car. There was a TSB for a similar incident campaign number 16-01-071 that affected 2011-2014 Sonata 2. 0t and 2013-16 santa fe sport 2. 0t this model the 2015 Sonata 2. 0t should also be included in this campaign as is it exhibiting the same issue.

Engine has 131,000 is driven less than 800 miles per month currently. And has excessive oil consumption . An averageof 2-1/2 to 3 qts of oil in a month. I first notice this problem ,when I checked oil level about 3 months ago. Oil warning light never comes on letting you know it is low on oil. I contacted huyndai dealership and was told I need to pay for 6 oil changes . And an engine clean up to determine what problem is . It is clearly a factory defect that they are not willing to admit to. Customer should not be liable for a factory defect. Ive read Hyundai forums and founf many owners with same complaint but no action has been taken . Need help with this. .

My 2017 Hyundai is not listed on the recall for excess oil consumption and I am trying to find out why it is not included. I have to add oil every week to my car and have to change the spark plugs every couple of months. I would simply like to know why my 2017 Hyundai Sonata is not included on the recall as well as how I can get it included since it is one of the Sonatas with the excess oil consumption problem. Started oil consumption testing in Aug 2021 through Hyundai due to the vehicle taking in at least 1. 5 qts of oil every 1,000 miles. After multiple tests, Hyundai completed a combustion cleaning in Jan 2022. No changes. After an additional oil consumption test in March 2022, Hyundai has advised this is normal consumption. No action to be taken from dealer/corp until engine blows a rod. Manufacturer &/or dealer prefers for my family to suffer a dangerous and potentially catastrophic event before addressing what is to be a known issue with this year/make/model.

I went to start my car on may 3, 2021 to go home and my car was sputtering and the check engine light was on. The dealership can't get to my car for 2 weeks. My car burns oil and doesn't make it from oil changes. I have had my spark plugs replaced when it did this the last time.

Had open recall ,, an ecm update and wile Hyundai in columbia CT. And after it was done the car worked fine for about a week , now I'm lacking acceleration for miles per gallon has decreased 50% burning gas quickly plus is burning about a quart of oil a week, but there's no check engine light, change the spark plugs and air filter still the power has decreased 30%. I noticed that decrease in power when entering on to a highway and I tried to accelerate into traffic but it did not have any power at first until it started bucking and then it's finally getting some momentum. The spark plugs were changed but the problem still persist! still at this time the problem is unknown to me.

I bought this vehicle from a used car lot. I keep all maintenance up on this vehicle since I work as a lube maintenance technician. I noticed that the engine burns oil at a very fast rate. Not even 2000 miles into my maintenance interval the engine is dry. The oil lamp turns on. There is no leaks from the engine. I knew this was gonna be a problem to fix and I knew it would be very expensive. I just basically changed my oil more often. I was driving it from work and then it suddenly started idling rough and it started stuttering real bad. I took it to a mechanic to diagnose the problem and they told me a cylinder is blown and it could possibly need a new engine. I've only had this car for 2 years!! and I'm dealing with having to replace and engine on a 2017 Hyundai Sonata I have kept very well maintained. This car has only traveled in the southern California area. This problem started in yorba linda California. My vehicle is currently in shop not even touched yet because I want to know if there is possible a recall on this engine.

I bought the car new in 2017. Since approximately 3000 miles, oil consumption has progressed from 1 quart per oil change to 3 quarts per oil change (vehicle has around 92k miles). Oil is changed every 7k miles with the recommended oil viscosity and type (synthetic) along with the factory oil filter change. No noted leaks or smoking, but there is valve train noise when the oil level is 1 quart low or lower.

Increased oil consumption and engine knocking. Hyundai not honoring their commitment to replace engine free of cost.

The oil consumption is out of control for their vehicles I've had more oil changes that I've ever done on a vehicle I've done oil construction tests and they always say it's just at the 1 quart that they allow who's is bull I've checked my oil cold and it's hardly on the stick and the oil light has come on numerous times I'm no genus but I do know it's more than a quart low when your oil light comes on. At 1,100 miles it was 2. 5 quarts low and I was forced to do another oil change when I only had 1,100 miles on this one. The first pic I've attached is cold oil level at 1,100 miles after oil change. The car only has 53k on it and I want to know how many times do we have to do oil consumption tests to get it fixed under the lifetime engine replacement and forget about the roadside assistance from Hyundai they tow 20 miles that's it and the rest is on you how is that fair when it's not your problem to begin with.

My check engine light turned on and my car has power hesitation during acceleration. This happend 1-2 days out of the week until the forth time it happened the check engine light stayed on and continues to have power hesitation as well as high idling at all times, burning oil, smoke coming from the exhaust, and the brakes are extremely hard when needing to brake. I took it to a local mechanic and they did a diagnostic that returned a code of p0010 and they referred me to a Hyundai dealership for repair. I was also given a technical service bulletin with a campaign number of 15-01-022-1. I took it to the dealership and they also came back with the same code. I have paid for the parts and diagnostic and they couldn't give an estimate of when the parts would be available because they are on back order. Here I am two weeks later calling the dealership to follow up and was told by the parts department that they contacted Hyundai directly and there are 1800 of those parts on back order with an estimated time of being at least two months for the parts to come in. Hyundai also stated that they have submitted a high priority for them. I will be without a vehicle for who knows how long.

I have done an oil consumption test with Hyundai that proves my oil is burning extremely fast. It also stalls and the acceleration has slowed down. When costarring up the car it sounds loud. This problem has been going on since 2020. As of Feb. 2021 Hyundai stated that my problem with my engine will not be solved because of the oil consumption.

My VIN is showing 2 recalls that are incomplete that I have taken to a local dealership to be corrected. My 2011 Hyundai burns oil very quickly within weeks of an oil change. I am constantly adding oil. There is no oil leak detected in the vehicle. I was assured that the engine recall was looked at and not affected but according to this site that recall is incomplete. I also have to replace tail and headlights and when I use a blinker at night the headlights turn off. I had my vehicle serviced at jenkins Hyundai of jacksonville FL 904/420-7171.

The engine knocks loudly when under a load. The problem causes a lack of power and the consumption of oil which risks engine failure during critical driving situations.

I was driving in another city and my car went into limp mode. I had it towed to nearby dealer and they said I was low in oil, after having it changed an month before. They did oil consumption test and found it to be 1 quart per 1000 miles and left there and 2 months later had another consumption test done after seeing my car was one in the class action on engine and bearings. They found this one to be 1. 1 qts per 1000 miles. Dealer said no way will they send info to get a new engine under warranty. A qt a 1000 miles seems very excessive. Dealer said that you need to be at 1. 5 qt per 1000 which would be almost no oil when I go have an oil change. The vehicle is only 3 years old and 100000 miles. This seems like too much oil to be burnt. And they know they have engine issues and will not rectify.

I am starting to have issues with my car burning oil with no leaks. I haven't even been a month (1,000) miles and my car literally had no oil. I only have 60,000 mile on the car. The engine at times has shook with the check engine light one but I had turned off the car and started it back up and it stopped. It only happens on occasion but now I'm burning and after reading these comments I see it is an overall issue with multiple cars. A recall should be put in effect as it's the same issue.

My coil packs keep going out. I just changed them in August now here it is November and my check engine light is back on and my car is jerking. My car is burning through oil like crazy. I can get my oil changed and in about 500 miles the oil change light is back on. I do not have an oil leak so I don't know where my oil is going.

In oct. . 2020 my Sonata was at pep-boys auto for a synthetic-oil change. Pep-boys called me to advise can't service the car for the oil change. Since last oil change 6k miles ago their was no oil in the engine. They saw this several times in the last year with 2. 0 engine, they want no responsibility and said take your car to the dealer & open case the engine has a serious flaw, it burns the oil with the gasoline. They said a recall? documents attached. I went totexan Hyundai, put my car through a series of tests every 1000 miles. I was told the engine can be replaced you in the 10 yrs, however you over the 100k miles,will not b covered, a Hyundai motors would cover 50% . Was told engines last 250-300k miles. I spent over 2k for ext. Warranty. It ran out at 100k. Hyundai has not backed up their car. Sonata hybrid was sold to me being dependable & lasting years. It failed terribly, I maintained my car always and now need NHTSA please help. On Hyundai forums many2. 0 have same situation with oil disappearing. I prepaid on credit card $3531. 00, texan Hyundai placed order for a new engine. Back ordered. Date to fix will be in during the month of july2021. All miles r highway to and from, katy to brenham college has no hills all straight run since day bought. These engines should last, there is a failure in design? not dependable car. Very defective 2. 0 engine. Last 2 yr's I would smell burning oil in my car, I would open the window since no lights on dash. No oil in the engine, no dash light? pep-boys said those lights never were lit on the defective cars. If light would have taken to the dealer for service. When engine is running oil leaks from engine and on to exhaust causing smoke to come out from under the hood and the smell of burning oil to enter the cabin.

My 2016 Hyundai Sonata engine seized when oil consumption rapidly increased between oil changes. It happened just before exiting the freeway.

2016 Sonata with 103,000 mile. Increased oil consumption. Regular full synthetic oil changes have been followed. The engine burns out oil well before oil change is due. Oil lamp flickers. Mechanic states oils is burning up and released through exhaust therefore no leaks detected. 2nd issue: p2122 check engine code. Diagnostics reveals pedal acceleration sensor faulty. Part was $202. Not sure if this is misdiagnosed and related to sluggish engine due to oil consumption.

I have a recall Hyundai doesnt want to fix did a total of 10 oil consumption test but my car keeps burning oil also my car has also shut off in the middle of driving it. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to hudson Hyundai (977 communipaw Ave, jersey city, NJ 07304, (866) 710-6765). The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The contact stated that too much oil was added to the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 54,000.

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that upon inspection of his vehicle, he became aware that the engine oil was being consumed excessively, without warning. The contact took the vehicle to eastern shore Hyundai (29736 frederick blvd, daphne, al 36526) for an oil consumption test and the test determined that the engine needed to be repaired or replaced. The dealer initially offered no assistance but after contacting the office of consumer affairs, the dealer offered 75% off the cost of a new engine. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 109,274.
