I was driving to work at like 4:00 in the morning it was still dark outside the light turned green and as I hit the gas pedal the car stall it was moving slow so on my right hand side there was a building so I try to make it to the parking lot the car started to power down in a knocking noise started it was a busy morning in the morning work traffic.

I just dropped it off at pohanka Hyundai (1770 ritchie station CT, capitol heights, MD; (301) 423-1100) dealership regarding issues I suspect to be related to the recall on the engine. About three and half weeks ago, I started experiencing the following signs upon start-up in the morning and driving throughout the day. A loud knocking sound and vibration from the engine for 3-4 seconds when I start the car in the morning. Heavy smoking(more than the usual morning smoke on cold days) sometimes up to five or more minutes. Acceleration and rpmthat don't pass 2000 issues when driving at 60 mph. Random and intermittent stalling when driving, sometimes almost completely stopping or refusing to move after a momentary stop. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. Knocking noise, engine light comes on, oil in where spark plug is, leaks oils and runs out way before next oil change. Car in motion, starts to idle weird and then car shuts off.

I have a2012 Hyundai Sonata 2. 0 limited doesn't take the gas when u press it and it makes a knocking sound also so I checked the oil everything fine and all the rest of the fluids no problem there the car only has 58000 thousand miles on it also while I was driving it home from work it was losing power.

To who reads this, thank you first and foremost to take the time to read this. This is a real person, this is my real story. I have been noticing a knocking engine noise for 5 to 6 weeks and then got the NHTSA recall number20v746000 in the mail. I set the soonest appointment with the dealership. The day of the appointment I was advised by andy that it would take 3 to 4 weeks for them to look at my vehicle and run it through Hyundai's recommended diagnosis. Later I called the Hyundai campaign hotline and open case # 18081104. I was told to wait 3 to 5 days for a national representative to get back with me. I called two days later requesting an update and shortly later the dealership called me to inform me my car was ready. Andy said it cleared inspection and I asked if it passed all their tests, I was told yes. This was the same staff member that told me a few steps days prior 3 to 4 weeks. While I was waiting for my vehicle to be brought to me, I overheard the another Hyundai rep saying same story told to me about the length of time to diagnosis. Got the diagnosis (repair) details back to find their inspection concluded taking the vehicle for a 7 mile test drive in the city to observe odd knocking noises. Nothing remotely advised from the manufacturer to dealership. I have their report attached but have no clue what to do at this point. I called back Hyundai campaign hotline again after getting my vehicle back today. I am told I have the same case no. And to wait another 3 to 5 days for another representative to contact me.

I noticed a recall for premature engine damage for some Hyundai models. I have a 2016 Sonata that is experiencing the same warning signs. Abnormal knocking noises from the engine and the oil light will illuminate after adding oil within a few weeks. I've also noticed a burning smell from time to time. The engine light is not on. Before the knocking noise began I would notice hesitation in acceleration every now and then but it wasn't constant. The knocking noise is during driving and even more so when turning. This is my only vehicle and I have taken it in for maintenance when needed but this happened suddenly and I am unable to figure out why. On the recall list is the 2016 Sonata hybrid but with my Sonata being of the same year I am sure it should also be on the recall list since the issues are identical.

My engine started making a knocking noise that eventually cut the engine off while in motion. As told the recall was about but Hyundai claim since my car salvaged, they won't pay for another engine when my is the recall problem. Now when everytime I cut the car on it makes a knocking sound then eventually cut off.

My car just started making a weird knocking sound and so I pulled over and the car would not start once I turned it off.

The connecting-rod bearings in the engine wore out prematurely. My car only has 75,000 miles on it and does not come up on a VIN search at Hyundai as a recall vehicle even though it has the 1. 6 gamma motor in it. The description from Hyundai of the issue is the following, "abnormal knocking noises from the engine, reduced power or hesitation, illumination of the "check engine" light or the engine oil-pressure warning light; or a burning smell, oil leaks, or smoke. " this is exactly what happened to us when the car died. We took it immediately to our local mechanic who was shocked at how worn the bearing wear and the large amount of metal shavings in the oil.

12/12/2020 at 7:00am less than a mile from home my car stalled on a country road. As I was going up the hill I heard a knocking noise. When I reached to the top of the hill the car lost power and all of the lights/symbols on the dashboard came on. The car coasted and then I applied the brakes. I tried to restart the car, tested the battery and check the oil dip stick. There was no oil on the dip stick. Soon after someone said the could see smoke and smell an acrid odor. The vehicle was towed to the authorized Hyundai dealer. This dealer does my vehicle maintenance and oil changes. They told me the vehicle needs a new engine. Nothing was mentioned about the recall or giving me a loaner/rental car. I was told it could take weeks or months for a new engine to come from pr, USA or korea. The authorized dealer has not told me how the process works. Only that the repair will be covered at no cost to me.

Tl- the contact owns a 2009 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while his son was driving at 70 mph, the engine stalled as his son heard an abnormal, knocking sound emit from the engine. His son also stated that the check engine light had illuminated on the instrument panel as the failure occurred. The contact's son was able to coast the vehicle into a parking lot where it remained. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and they informed the contact that there were no recalls on the vehicle, he was then given a case number. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. Abnormal knocking noise from engine, vehicle was in motion entering a driveway, we believe this has been the issue for the past 6 months and the dealer could never figure out the problem, stated it was the battery we replaced it, still same issue, now the vehicle sounds like a tractor due to the rod bearings.

I was driving home from maryland and my car started making a knocking noise. We thought it was a stick underneath so we pulled over safely and tried to look under, but didn't see anything. As we continue to drive my car would only go 45 mph, and as we were on the interstate this was very scary. It's soon stopped accelerating, and we had to roll to the nearest exit. During this entire time, the car was still making the knocking noise. Once we got off the exit my car tires locked up and eventually stalled. It would no longer turn on. After this experience aaa towed it to the nearest Hyundai dealership where they told me my engine was shot.

In October 2020 my car was runnung perfect, then all of a sudden without any warning light or anything my car started making a loud knocking noise while in motion and five minutes later stalled in the middle of the street. I was not turning, I was driving straight. I took it to a Hyundai dealer and they said they couldn't replace engine because it was over the miles. I received a letter about the rod going in my car engine and contacted Hyundai and they said that it was what went wrong with my car but they had to wait until a remedy was put in place. I have been 5 months without my car and I have 3 kids. I'm contacting because this is a major life inconvenience. Especially during the pandemic.

Engine failure due to connecting rod coming lose and causing a loud knocking noise. This happened when I was driving the vehicle.

With a odometer reading of just under 135000 miles a warning light came on with a message that the hybrid battery was not being charged and then the engine developed a serious knocking sound. We pulled over to the shoulder of the highway. After having the car towed to the Hyundai dealership we found out that metal shavings in the oil meant that we needed to replace the engine.

I was driving on the highway when I heard something pop inside the hood followed by a loud knocking sound. I lost acceleration power and I had almost gotten hit by semi while rolling to side of the road. Taken it to mechanic shop said that's my engine rod bearing was broken. The engine blow in my car and I'm trying to figure out if it has a recall on it because my car was working just fine. I was driving and it started making a loud knocking noise.

While accelerating, especially up inclines, I would hear a knocking sound, feel vibrations, the check engine light would come on and the acceleration would not work. I would coast for a little bit (up to about a minute) before the acceleration would work again properly. This causes a very hazardous situation as other vehicle behind are still attempting to accelerate while I can not. This has happened to me at least 5 times in the last month and a half. The manufacturers service center that I took the vehicle to said that they couldn't reproduce the issue so there is "nothing wrong" with the vehicle.

My car stall whiljng driving then stop in front of another vehicles. I had to push it over on neutral. My vehicles had knocking sound when trying to get it back up running . Let it sit for a while and it start back up on its own. I took it to hynduai 8/8 the service worker jim said he can't diagnostic cause the light is gone. I told him that I cant risk driving this vehicle when I know it had a knock sensor recall last year campaign 953 and its doing it again. He told me their is noth I ng he can do and advice me to drive it back home until it happens again and then get tow. J scold him and said and risk my kids life and others. It stalls in the middle of driving. The engine completely goes out for almost 40 minute. This the 6th time it happen between oct 2019 to Aug 2020.

Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that he had received a recall notice for NHTSA campaign number :18v934000 (engine, fuel system, gasoline). The contact then took the vehicle to sport durst Hyundai(4507 durham-chapel hill blvd, durham, nc 27707) where he had the engine replaced under the recall. Upon return of the vehicle, the contact stated that he could hear an abnormal, knocking noise from engine as the coolant warning light had illuuminated. The contact also stated that white smoke would also emit from the engine. The contact then took the vehicle back to the Hyundai dealer where he was informed that knock was due to the wrong type of fuel he was placing into the vehicle. The contact was informed to place 89 fuel into the vehicle and not 87. The contact then began to use 89 fuel into the vehicle and the contact stated that the issue became worse. The contact stated the vehicle stated that the knocking and the smoke persisted and that the vehicle would shut off soon after start up. The contact called back the dealer and was infomred to bring the vehcile back for an inspection. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and also informed him to take it to a local dealer for inspection. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 196,000.

Was driving about 60 down paved road started hearing knocking noise under engine noise got louder when I tried to push gas because it fealt like I lost power and then suddenly car started vibrating and then turned off. And lost all power. Oil light came on for 1 sec and then turned off the the check engine light came on and then went out and t hen rolled to a stop. Car tried to start but would not start. Had to have it towed to my house because dealer was closed and then towed to dealership 2 days ago still have not heard back from them and I have no car to get back to work. My car has just turned 70,000 miles and should not be going through this.

The engine is making a knocking noise and it has lost power. Oil level is good. I know there was an engine recall on Sonatas and it looks like this may be a recall issue.

Car has been experiencing clumking noise since 2018. Vehicle would stall all of a sudden. Dealership checked it out and they failed to find anything wrong. On 6/23 I was on the fast lane of the freeway and car stalled and engine light was continuously blinking on and off. Cyclic knocking noise, rpm would not elevate from 1 car just stalled while in motion I almost got hit by other vehicles. Was able to pull car to the side. While engine light continued blinking. Going up hill it lost power as well. I was driving vehicle with my grandkids in the back seat. I feared for all of our lives. Sending pictures and I have a video as well.

Started hearing a knocking sound in engine compartment, while driving down highway, slowed car down to 40 m. P. H. , that's when the engine completely shut off and wouldn't restarted, was able to steer and coast car out of traffic. Looked up that there was an old recall claim for the very sound, but it was closed before I bought the car in 2017.

I just had an oil change no more than 1500 miles ago and I have no oil in my engine. It just disappears. And it constantly makes a knocking noise that Hyundai is unable to fix. Also I had my brakes changed and when I come to a sudden stop, the brakes lock up and make a loud thud noise.

My last recent recent oil change was two months ago service has been kept up on the car I accelerated and it seems as if I've thrown a rod when I get off the freeway I can hear knocking I don't have any leakage or anyting but it can clear you hear the knocking and if you accelerate you're here like the bereans are grinding I was able to get the car home but there's a lot of knocking noise in the engine.

My car engine was running fine but when I started it the next morning it started shaking real bad. Kind of a knocking noise like a rough idle.

Purchased car from carmax in 2019 they said there was no open recalls. Car had 110,xxx miles. Car yesterday died on me while driving 3 times to and from work. Nearly got into an accident twice. Once stalled on highway at 65 mph. Second time was coasting to a stop light almost rear ended a car. Third time was at stop light. After the third stall I was approaching the highway on-ramp and t made knocking noises and stalled. I coasted to safe place off the side of the road. Popped the hood saw oil all under the car and trail up to it. Then I saw broken pieces of aluminum block and piece of connecting rod. Needless to say it experienced catastrophic failure. Then got home and seen there was recall for this very problem. My car has 127,133 miles on it now.

Excessive oil burning knocking sound stalls while driving.

On Sunday March 29,2020, the vehicle was in motion on a city street, my wife was driving the vehicle to her daughter's house. A knocking noise from the engine and illumination of the check engine light happened. The vehicle then stalled and the engine went dead. It did not respond at all to start it. It was towed to my wife's daughter's house by a friend of mine with a strap to pull a vehicle. The distance to her house was about a quarter of a mile. The next day on 03/30/2020 I went to go check on it to see what the problem was. There was no response on the engine. On 03/31/2020 I contacted allstate, my insurance company and the vehicle was towed by a wrecker to an auto electric business. On 04/02/2020 the mechanic said I needed a new motor, the engine was locked. That same day allstate towed it to a mechanic. On 04/03/2020 the mechanic called me and said the engine was locked and not responding. He said I needed a new motor or a used one. I then left it there until I researched any recalls on this make and model. On 04/08/2020 I found a website that is autoservice. Hyundaiusa. Com and it did say my wife's vehicle was affected. I request a recall on this make and model on the engine to be inspected by a Hyundai dealer. My complaint as a buyer on this vehicle is that we should have been notified of this problem of metal debris generated on the manufacturing of the engine. These engines were manufactured at Hyundai motor manufacturing alabama.
