Driving to airport in car. Just pulled in to freeway after stopping at store 45 mins into drive. My 3016 Sonata hybrid limited started making a knocking sound. My boyfriend who is a mechanic recognized it immediatly. Then suddenly engine made loud noise and parts and oil flew all over behind us from underneath car. He managed to get it off road without us getting hit. Waited 4 hours for tow that was covered by warranties I purchased. Hyundai tried to state that only 2 people could ride in tow truck. So one person (there were 2 adults and a child) would have to wait in middle of nowhere while other 2 went the hour back home with tow truck and then came the hour back. There wasn't a gas station or anything around. The car is in shop waiting to see what warranty says about it needing a new engine. All maintenance was done and was in Hyundai shop 5 weeks prior with abs unit needing replaced. There was no warning light or engine light that alerted us to a possible issue.

There has been a engine knocking sound slowly building up and my oil was still 2k miles good. After work Saturday evening as I was driving home it was knocking hard then the engine light started flashing. I got code checked and the code was p1326 I need up changing my oil to see it anything would help and it did not. My car won't go past 2k rpms due to limp mode asked my mechanic friend about help and he came over and looked at it. Told me he's had customers with same problems and there is a campaign recall 953 per TSB 18-01- 027 and they got it fixed.

During normal driving on the highway (65 to 70 mph), the check engine light started flashing and the car lost power. I was very startled and I immediately exited and headed to my Hyundai dealership. The car had almost no power and was bucking hard. The engine had a loud knocking sound that grew in intensity as the engine speed increased. I drove gently to the dealership. This could have easily been a dangerous accident involving other vehicles as I was startled and lost power at the same time in moderate to heavy traffic and had to make a sudden exit from the roadway to avoid many more miles of travel to get to help.

I had just bought my car, two months later, I'm driving to work which is less then 5 miles away . . And my car ts making a knocking noise. I got no light signal warning me about oil or engine, it just started the noise so I stopped driving it so no further damage was done. My car lights never came on ever about my oil or engine. Not even for tire pressure.
Engine failure: I own a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. On Jul 2, 2019, I was driving home from work on the highway in the far left lane, driving approximately 60 miles an hour when suddenly the engine stalled and the car would no longer accelerate. It then started making a knocking noise. This was a very scary occurrence especially to happen on the highway. But fortunately, I was able to slowly cross over, safely get off at the nearest exit, and pull over to the side of the road. Several warning indicator lights were flashing on the car (including the engine light) and I detected a slight burning odor (but no fire). I was able to restart the vehicle but it stalled again and eventually was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed a complete engine failure. The vehicle wasn't repaired but towed to the closest official Hyundai dealership (256 north franklin st, hempstead, NY) for assistance. The following recalls are associated with my vehicle: recall# 17v226000 (engine), and #15v568000 (engine). At the time of occurrence the vehicle had oil in the tank and had approximately 88,000 miles on it which should not have affected the engine at all. I sincerely hope that by reporting this incident, it will assist the Hyundai dealership in repairing or replacing the engine in my vehicle as stated in the recall and thereby preventing this from ever happening again. This is a very dangerous incident and wouldn't want to ever subject myself or my family (who also ride in this vehicle) to a terrible incident such as this or worse.

The vehicle was not repaired. The failure was intermittent. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. While driving approximately 50 mph, the check engine indicator suddenly illuminated followed by a loud knocking noise coming from the engine. The contact saw smoke from underneath the hood. The contact's companion open the hood and noticed that the engine was on fire and called the fire department. The fire extinguished itself before the fire department arrived at the scene. There was no injury. The contact was not sure whether a fire report was filed. The vehicle was damaged but was not totaled. The vehicle was towed to the premier Hyundai of tracy dealer (209-820-3550, located at 3480 naglee rd, tracy, CA 95304) where the vehicle was kept for investigation. The contact was provided a loaner vehicle. The contact stated that prior to the fire, the vehicle was taken to the same dealer to inquired about a recall which the contact was notified about (NHTSA campaign number: 17v226000 (engine and engine cooling). However, the technician told the contact to come back if a knocking noise was heard from the engine. The vehicle cut on fire a few days later. On June 22th, 2019 I was driving on the highway in my 2012 Hyundai Sonata GLS and I heard a knocking sound under my hood and my engine light came on, so I pulled over to be safe. I called roadside assistance but the time of arrival was two plus hours. Since I was within a half mile of my home I continued on. On 11/10/2019 I experienced the exact same issue knocking under the hood and engine light came on continous blinking. I was almost hit by an 18 wheeler because my vehicle decreased in speed drastically, pull to the shoulder drove very slow to advance auto two minutes away. They did a diagnostic code was p1326. Takata recall my 2013 Sonata has been making a knocking noise for a couple of months I have taken my car up to savannah Hyundai on abercorn several times. They told me they didn't see anything wrong with my engine. Now for the last two have been putting oil in my car every two days. It's oil leek and no one can seem to tell me what's wrong.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. While operating the vehicle, the contact heard a knocking noise coming from the engine compartment. The contact took the vehicle to two independent mechanics and both diagnosed that a new engine was needed. The mechanics stated that the engine oil needed to be changed every month and the oil was leaking into the engine. The oil level was very low and needed to be replaced constantly. The contact was informed to repeat the process until a new engine was installed. The contact also stated that the vehicle kept pulling to the left and alignments had to be performed much sooner than normal. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 130,000.
Out of nowhere I started hearing a knocking noise from my engine. My car had oil so I didn't understand why it was knocking. Few days later I was leaving work heading home and my vehicle just stop on the highway. I was pressing on the gas and nothing didn't happened. So I had to pull over; as I was pulling over light smoke was coming from under my hood but my car wasn't running hot. I sit there 10 minutes before starting my car back up. That's when my car wouldn't start over. I tried again and it started but wouldn't move the light on my dashboard where blinking on and off for no reason. Previous before any of this started I also did not have the check engine light nor oil light was on. I had my car towed the next day to my home. That's when I had a mechanic to come and look at my car. The first thing he do is check the oil said my oil was good. He didn't understand why my car wouldn't move. Then the mechanic started my car up and it made and even louder noise went from light tapping knocking to something unexplainable like the engine just wanted to fall out the bottom. My mechanic had me to start my car up once more as he looked under the hood again to see what's wrong as he said stop the car. All the oil in my car has spilled into my driveway. That's when he told me my engine has blown a rod.

I purchased this vehicle from a small car dealership, when purchased the vehicle had a pretty high mileage however when test drived no service lights came on and the car ran smoothly. After four months of owning the car with only around 2k miles added to it, while I was driving down the freeway a knocking noise suddenly became apparent and the check engine light came on, I pulled over as soon as possible since there was visible smoke coming out of the hood of the vehicle.

While driving on the interstate engine started making a knocking sound when acellerating on the gas, after passing the vehicle the car stalled on the interstate. I was able to get to a gas station. Car towed to a mechanic who states the engine is locked up. Told it would cost 2900-3500 to replace the engine. Single dad, two toddlers cannot afford this. Is this some sort of recall? engine as 125000 miles and has oil in it. What can be done about this?.
A knocking sound could be heard under the hood as I started my car up. I took it to the maintenance mechanic immediately, and was informed the engine was going bad. I was instructed to drive it to the nearest Hyundai dealership, which is 4 miles away. Upon starting the vehicle up, I drove it fifty feet away from my mechanic and the engine made a seizing sound and shut off. The car was still in motion and wouldn't stop as the brakes wouldn't engage. I was able to stop the vehicle in the middle of the intersection, just narrowly avoiding a car accident. I had no warning indicators this was going to happen, I had zero engine lights warning of any impending issues before this catastrophic failure of the engine, which almost cost me my life. My mechanic has provided me with a full history of every oil change and repair order for the vehicle. This mechanic is also the general manager of a reputable auto shop and assured me I did everything right and Hyundai sold a lemon. I did take a picture of my dash board 10 minutes prior to this event happening. This can confirm I did not have a single warning light providing a warning before the engine seizing up completely. I have done everything I was required to by Hyundai to maintain the vehicle. But the engine seized regardless. 2013 Sonata se 2. 0 t mileage : 63,223 solid maintenance history on the engine and car. I can provide a comprehensive maintenance list when requested. Need a few days to get the entire history.
Car engine is making knocking sounds, quickens and gets loud when I press on gas petal. Oil changed and fuids checked on regular bases. 168. 000 miles on car. Had car checked out at fort mill hyundia which they said found nothing. Now car sitting in yard, scare to drive. I am a nursing student, mom and wife. We cant not afford this time or money wise. Please help.
I was driving on the highway when all of a sudden there was loss of power and a loud clunking/knocking noise. I pulled over and then the engine stopped working. The car had all service done on time.
On December 24, 2018 I was driving on the freeway the car started to slow down like it wasn't getting fuel, I stopped the car and opened the hood because it was making a knocking sound, the entireengine was rocking. . . I turned the car off and had it towed.
Driving 65 mph on the highway my car sounded like it was going to fall apart. Then 2 mins later it shuts off on me. Leaving me stranded for an hour on i66. Had to have it towed back to my house. I've been complaining about hearing knocking noises and my lights coming on while driving but whenever I took it to the dealership of course the car never made the noises. I always have to change my right brake light. There's a short in the wire.
Engine failure/steering problems in July of 2015 I purchased the 2011 Hyundai Sonata from a drivetime dealership; starting mileage; 76,262. I only had the car about 2 months when the engine completely seized on the freeway in August of 2015. The recall 132 didnt come out until after I already had my car serviced by a 3rd party warranty and had to come out of pocket for 500 dollars. The cause was a complete engine failure at 77,498 miles. The engine was replaced in sept of 2015. Next issue I started to have was my steering wheel suddenly started to make a loud knocking noise on about 10/2018 while driving over any uneven road or even the slightest bump. The steering wheel completely trembles if I go over 60mph and feels as though the steering wheel may come unattached. My wheels feel as though they are ready to fly off. Present day-my engine is now starting to show signs of seizure again. It starts to jolt unexpectedly and the engine makes a loud knocking noise randomly upon acceleration. The car is very very slow to accelerate and is inconsistent with power despite constant and documented oil changes/checks. I have made an appointment with my local Hyundai deal for the recall 132 for this is the 2nd time I am now needing to have this engine repaired. I was told that I would have to pay for a rental of 35/dollars a day if my engine does need to be replaced.
