My 2013 Hyundai Sonata had complete and total engine failure. I take care of the car and maintain it and the engine just failed in the middle of a residential road at a stop sign. Turns out it was one of many that Hyundai offered an extended warranty on but I was never notified my engine or car for that matter was one on a national recall and backorder.

Received a Sonata's engine control unit letter, stating a product improvement campaign has been issued on my car, on excessive connecting rod bearing wear in the engine. I have a severe knocking in my engine, when moving, especially when excelling up a hill, and it stated this can cause severe engine damage including engine failure. Told service man and he stated if it is this it could take one-three weeks for repair. Why isn't this a recall. States for this VIN# -8 recalls, but doesn't list them?? how do I find this out?.

Upon driving on the fwy, my vehicle suddenly lost power as I was traveling. Although at that point no warning lamps had come on the dash. I put on hazard lights to get the attention of other drivers, but it seemed as though they didn't see them. As I started to get out of the fast lane into the right lanes, the vehicle was just coasting, thankfully I was near an exit, so I coasted off the fwy, at this point the car was going uphill off the exit and all the warning lights appeared at that point and the vehicle just stopped on the exit of the fwy. I contacted aaa because my car was in a very dangerous, exit stranded and I couldn't get out my vehicle. Once aaa tech arrived, he lifted my vehicle to tow it and he said to me there's oil pouring out of your vehicle, that's real bad. He suggested I go to a nearby shop he knew of and the owner had me watch him as he looked at my car. He thought perhaps the oil pan wasn't secured. But, once he lifted up the car and the rest of the oil was running out, he saw pieces of metal in the oil, he said "that's parts of your engine, right there, your engine is gone. I said what is that, he said , unfortunately you had engine failure!.
Complete engine failure today. Vehicle was in an accident now the alarm system does not work.

2013 Hyundai Sonata. Consumer writes in regards to metal contamination which may result in bearing and engine failure. The consumer stated the 20,000 mile warranty extension was unsatisfactory given the magnitude of the manufacturing issue and the potential consequences.
My vehicle experience engine failure while I was driving I was stuck in the middle of the street in unsafe conditions. The engine in the vehicle was stuttering while driving. My vehicle was taken to a repair shop where I was made aware that my vehicle's engine was not working properly.
I drove 200 miles from my home to charlevoix, michigan. While driving I noticed that the engine was making a 'whooshing sound' every time I accelerated. This happened at highway speeds and at normal city driving speeds. Rather than drive the car home, I took it to the closest dealership some 60 miles away and reported the problem. Car has a 2. 0turbo engine. The inlet duct that brings air into the turbo severed at the point of attachment to the turbo. The technician at the dealer said that he could not tell if the duct melted or was cut. Other than oil changes, the car has never required engine service. He deemed the car unsafe to drive off the lot. , he said in his write up that any object could find its way into the turbo because the duct is unattached. This would lead to total engine failure, and hazardous driving condition. The car has been at the dealership since Friday, october13,2017. I received notification from the dealer today that the replacement part is on national back order and that they have been told by Hyundai that there is no promised delivery date since no parts are in stock I suspect that there may be other customers who reported the same problem which would be causing the stock-out situation.
The engine seized with no warning while driving. There was no indicator illuminated prior to the engine completely stopping. Apparently there was an issue with the oil and the engine must be replaced. I was driving at about 35 miles/hour when the engine failed. All of the dash lights came on and the engine shut off. I was driving up a hill as I entered a 4 lane county road going up hill.
Engine failure while driving in middle of road without any warning. When attempting to restart vehicle smoked and smelled of electrical burning. Hyundai service center originally said this vehicle was not part of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata theta ii engine recall, but when advising I found online (specifically at autoservice. Hyundaiusa. Com) that it indeed was, they agreed to check vehicle and contact Hyundai to have added to the recall. This vehicle exhibits all the problems mentioned in the recall/lawsuit. They occurred suddenly and without notice. We were at risk of crashing or being hit by a vehicle due to manner in which it broke down. Vehicle was at risk of fire, as it smelled of burning and smoked. Vehicle was left at service center and am awaiting response.

Hyundai Sonata engine failure. I was driving and my car stalled in the middle of the road. I put it in park and put my hazards on. I proceeded to start the car and when I did, the car caught on fire. Smelled like wires on fire. Hyundai was notified and my car was towed and fixed at the dealership. It took about 6 weeks to fix. To my disappoinment, Hyundai is only offering 12k miles or one year warranty. This car has had several recalls and I have brought it to the dealer for every one of them. I spent 30k on this car (Hyundai Sonata 2. 0t) love the look of it but not reliable. I have sent them a letter to ask for a better warranty on the "new" engine they replaced.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that they did not have a remedy for the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 23,000.
I am very unhappy with my Sonata, trouble since day 1! I was going on a family trip I have about a 300 nike drive not even an hour into the drive my car stops on the highway I had to get assistance to move it on the side of the road, road ranger spots me and stops to help he tells me I had engine failure! I then have to wait for someone to pick me up and pretty much left my car on the side of the highway until I returned from my trip. Then get my car towed back to Hyundai which cost me about 400, Hyundai keeps my car for about a month replaced the engine but not the turbo because it wasn't apart of th recall, really! my car drives like crap without the turbo , made a complaint with corporate and nothing has gotten resolved! I will never purchase another Hyundai again!!!!.
Last year (2016) 2 months after I purchased my 2012 Hyundai Sonata my engine failed. I realized it was due to a recall on my car. I was not notified at time of purchase and car facts did not mention open recall. The dealer refused to pay or be involved in the fixing of the car or the rental. Even though I paid 2000 dollars out of pocket for an extended warranty. The Hyundai company completed the recall fix on my engine and my insurance company (state farm ) got the dealership to cover half the cost of the rental. This year (2017) almost exactly 1 year later I am driving 60 mph down the freeway and my engine fails once again. I had my car towed to the same merced Hyundai dealership hat "fixed" the problem last year. The problem is the fuel tank has metal debri in it from the time hey built the car and over time as it passed through your engine it breaks it down. The "fixed" the problem by replacing my engine block but not replacing he fuel tank so won't the problem just happen again? I am hoping they don't try to make me pay for it this time around. I would like to know my options for this situation and who needs to be held accountable.
The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA campaign number: 15v568000 (engine) to have the engine replaced. The vehicle was repaired with a brand new engine in April of 2016, but the engine failed again on may 9, 2016. The manufacturer declined to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 128,000.
Rod bearings got thrown and engine seized @ just over the 100,000 warranty. I noticed around 80,000 that I was constantly having to add oil. Service rep. Said normal for every 700-1000 miles. Dealer & manufacturer said that repair (replace engine) is not covered. I had to barrow 10,000 to have the engine replaced. Since the replacement the repaired engine began doing the same thing. My mechanic began checking the plugs every time I took the car in for a oil change (every 5,000 to 7,000 miles) and found that oil is causing the plugs to foul out and so I have to replace those every 10,000 miles to avoid constant miss-firing and possible fire. The buareu of automotive repair has met with the dealership on the original engine failure and on the current problem (which is a repeat). The first meeting the dealer told the rep. If I could come up with the 1 oil change receipt I was missing, they would then pay for the repair. They alread knew I was unsuccessful in finding that. When the rep meet with the dealer for the current problem, they stated that I have never been to them stating a problem. I have been taking my car to a mechanic (truecar care in cameron park, CA). My trust in the dealership to do the right thing was lost a long time ago. I'm disabled and live on ssi. I can't afford another engine replacement, or the cost of purchasing another car. I'm begging you to please help me get justice with Hyundai. My stress level can't take much more. My supplemental income over the last 3 years has been lost due to this problem. (I drove for lyft & uber) vehicle is always in motion, street or highway. Please feel free to contact me @ 916-806-1959. My sister was present with me when I spoke to the svc. Mgr. For the engine replacement when he told me I was getting a new engine and would not encounter the same problem. Date of first failure is apprx.

My car just stalled on me yesterday April 6th, 2017 when I was driving to a friends house, on the street in motion. I was in mid-drive and it just stalled, all the dash lights went on and I couldn't accelerate anymore. I had to coast all the way to a gas station, barely making it. Turned the key to the off position and back on and it just turned on again. Took it to harbor Hyundai this morning and they first said there was nothing wrong with it, then they told be the oil light went on and it could be engine failure and I should sell my car for parts or drive it until it fails. And what a coincidence that this morning a recall on 2013 - 2014 Hyundais with engine stalling. So Hyundai isn't doing anything for me. I need help, I think my car year should be included in this recap as well.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the engine failed to function normally. The vehicle was taken to atlantic Hyundai (193 sunrise hwy north service rd, west islip, NY 11795, (631) 587-0700) where it was repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 18v934000 (engine, fuel system, gasoline). The remedy failed and the check engine indicator illuminated; however, the dealer refused to repair the vehicle again. In addition, the tail lights shorted out numerous times and the bulbs were replaced more than five times. The vehicle was unable to be driven due to the faulty engine. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was not available.
Car went in for engine test for the recall. Engine failed the test which should have meant that the engine needed to be replaced. After 90 days a Hyundai rep came to the dealership and determined that the engine did not need to be replaced. If the car fails the test how can they just deem that they don't need to fix it. Also can I request that they sign a letter of liable in the event of future engine issues, since they won't fix a government mandated recall, how will I ever get them to own up to any other issues that arise?.
Engine failure seized during acceleration on to highway and lost power on to shoulder staled turned the car off tried to restart it, would not . It was towed to blue springs Hyundai were they diagnosed engine seized. Replacement ordered on long block due to metal.
