36 Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 02/27/2017

Will driving on us 1 going south bound in marathon florida as I was from 60 mph to 65 mph all of a sudden I lost all engine power. Speedometer went to zero and all idiot lights came on. I was able to coast to the side of the road. I tried to restart and it would not make any noise. I called Hyundai roadside assistance which took close to 4 hours to get to me. The car has approximately 29,600 miles on it. And the prior week I had an oil change performed at a Hyundai dealer. The dealer it was towed told me I need a new engine. It is now a week and I am still waiting on Hyundai to approve a warranty claim on the engine.

37 Engine Noise problem of the 2006 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 02/01/2017

It is having the same problems that the engines are being recalled for now. It is making tapping and pinging sounds. I have looked the vehicle and have seen people have been complaining about their 2006 Hyundai Sonatas doing the same thing. Scrap yards have these cars there with blown engines. My son is having to pay on a loan on a car that he can not even drive. We have called the banks and insurance. It will cost more to fix the engine than what he owes. Why are 2006's not being recalled also?.

38 Engine Noise problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/01/2017

I no longer have fog lights that entire area has melted. My tail lights go out every two or 3 weeks and the bulbs are black. There is a burning smell coming from the vehicle only when the car is being driven or parked on. The ac line that should be cold is hot. Recently the car was leaking oil and smoking the dealership said it had to do with the engine recall. My engine seized while driving in 2016 and I had to get a engine replacement. After the engine replacement my turbo went out which only allowed the car to drive slow and the engine sounded the whole time driving. It had something to do with when they replaced the engine.

39 Engine Noise problem of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 12/03/2016

While stationary I noticed the car's engine sounded like it was ticking. I drove off about 35 miles per hour when my 2015 Hyundai Sonata limited stalled while driving. The car started shaking while attempting to speed up to keep the vehicle running. I had my passenger who witnessed the incident and we recorded using the cell phone to record the incident. The engine light came on then off again. Eventually it cut off completely. I had to restart and the speed of the vehicle would not go past 50 mph. The engine shook the entire car and sounded like the gears did not want to shift. The dealer was not able to replicate the issue or find any codes on their system. This same thing happen to my 2011 Sonata in which Hyundai refuse to pay in a class action lawsuit because I traded out of the vehicle a year after they replaced the engine. The engine also stalled while traveling at highway speed and started smelling like an electrical fire while smoke came from under the engine. I had to have it towed back to the dealership.

40 Engine Noise problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 09/30/2016

9/30/2016 - while driving home from work (20-25 miles) heard a knocking in the engine while on the road and expressway. Took my car to jiffy lube because it was time for an oil change and had them check the engine and noise. They advised that the engine is bad and will need to be repaired or replaced. The miles from my last oil change was approximately 3200 miles. Took my car two blocks down the road to midas and another mechanic confirmed the engine needs to be replaced. I have taken care of the car with regular oil changes, upkeep and car maintenance. On 1/11/2016 my 2011 Hyundai Sonata engine was taken in for the recall campaign 132 at the Hyundai repair location. In June, I took my car in for service at firestone auto care because my engine light had came on and they performed an engine analysis and found my oxygen sensor was bad on 6/04/2016 and they replaced that. I cannot drive the vehicle because the engine is on its last leg, cannot accelerate because the car is not responding as it should and I fear I am risking my life as well as others on the road. The difference between driving from 9/29 to 9/30 is night and day I do not understand how an engine gives out with no warning.

41 Engine Noise problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 08/14/2016

While I was driving, so the car was in motion, my speed limit was around 35 mph on a city street, the car made a noise then completely stopped without warning almost causing the vehicle behind me to crash into my rear end. I was in the middle of the road, I panicked turned the ignition off and restarted the car to attempt to pull off the road to safety. The vehicle started up and I pulled back onto the road to make a right turn towards the highway, as I was driving the vehicle stopped again without warning. The people in the car behind me got out of their vehicle to check on me. The man stated, "I can push you off the road, but there is something going on with your engine or perhaps spark plugs or wires and it's not staying connected or firing off a charge, I'm not sure. " I thanked the kind stranger and immediately called hyndai customer service. The Hyundai customer service rep informed me about the engine recall notice and contacted the towing company to locate and tow my vehicle to the nearest Hyundai dealership. However, after waiting 1 hour and a half, I called the 800 number that was given to me to reference and they did not have any information on having me towed "free of charge. " the Hyundai roadside assistance rep did not have a record that hyndai customer service placed a call to them at all and further more the Hyundai customer service center was now closed. Apparently, on Sunday they close at 3pm. My car is still sitting where it stopped because the Hyundai roadside assistance needs the "approval" and reference number to tow the car on Hyundai for free. Hyundai has basically produced a "lemon" due to the fact that this particular make and model has had "several" dangerous recalls since I purchased the vehicle in March of 2011. They should be deemed unsafe and taken off the roads completely and customers should be given their money back.

42 Engine Noise problem of the 2016 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 07/28/2016

Driving into a traffic circle car suddenly stopped then lurched forward making a squealing noise. Again, almost t-boned. The engine light then lit and bluelink posted a message on screen that car has an engine issue and to call dealer. Bluelink roadside assistance took 7 hours to get tow truck to me, dealer would not give loaner car until they received mine - lost a day's work and car laid up 5 days. Exactly one week after emergency brake self engaged and seized wheels while driving.

43 Engine Noise problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 07/18/2016

I writing because I am having issue with my vehicle. It will not crank. The battery is not dead because the lights, radio comes on, it will not crank at all I have a push botton one. I took it for a oil change on July 15 2016 and had to pay a extra $75. 00 for air filter change. Now before I got the oil change my car was fine. So on Monday 18, 2016 leaving the restaurant my car will not start. I press the botton and nothing happen I smell and saw smoke. Left up the hood nothing out of the ordinary. I read on media network, so many people having problem with their 2012 2. 0 t Sonata Hyundai, car not starting and mines is one of them. I just got the car March of last year and now the car is acting up. I don't have $1200. 00 to pay what medlin Hyundai in rocky mount can't find. The service guy says it mybe the computer of the car, when someone tried to jump start it throught it off. But I told him that before I even got a jump start. The car made a noise and white smoke came from the hood of the car. They still blaming me but I think its their fault. The services guy said that the person that change the oil and air filter the car act like it didn't want to start. So why didn't they tell me that? I feel that they mess it up or there is a issue with all the 2012 Hyundai Sonata 2. 0 t that a recall need to be so the dealership car fix the all problems free. I need this to go to ceo of Hyundai. There is something truely wrong with 2012 Hyundai 2. 0 t Sonata. And you know the dealership service don't even know what the problem is. He said it was no fuse blown, only thing they can assume that it's the computer is dysfunctional cause of the jump. But the car was smoking and didn't start before the jump. These Sonata is killing our pockets, even the use ones too expensive. I don't gave $1,000 and $1,000 to pay out, that they don't know what problem is. Got car from gabe rowe.

44 Engine Noise problem of the 2014 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 03/01/2016

I heard a grinding engine noise from the car. I took it in to ask what the terrrible sound was, I was told the computer pulled a "internal engine failure" code and it was no longer able to be driven. I was told they had a recall on earlier models but not the year 2014. I was told it needed a new engine, metallic flakes were found upon investigation at Hyundai. I was told if the car continued to be driven it had a high risk of seizing up during use which would cause an accident. I was told it was recalled then later told that year 2014 had not yet been recalled, but that it was covered under warranty. They have had the vehicle for 2 months now and are stating I need to call the consumer protection agency and notify them of the situation to encourage a recall.

45 Engine Noise problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/03/2015

I received a notice for safety recall for my car which I just bought 3 months ago from Hyundai dealership in tampa. My car is making noise from the engine as I drive. I called today to the dealership and they stated that I would have to drop the car off. I said that's fine as long as I can get a loaner so I can drive to my work. The person (jeffery martinez) refused stating that they don't have a loaner car right now. I said you are giving me appointment for Thursday and how can you tell me that the loaner is not available for Thursday? he just kept refusing and so I asked to speak to a manager and he just tells me that the manager will call me and hangs up the phone. I called this morning and talked to a person name karen and she told me that loaner cars are only for people who pay for services and that I would have to speak to an advisor for it. That person never called me! I am not happy with the service that I received from this dealership. This is not my fault that the engine is making noise due to recall and if I have to get it fixed then I should be able to get a loaner complimentary until my car is fixed.

46 Engine Noise problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/03/2015

Concerns recall #132 it has not been established, as far as I know, how much time may elapse between the onset of the loud pinging noise and the engine malfunctioning causing a possible crash and personal injury. In view of this the time span could be a matter of seconds, minutes, or hours---- no one seems to know. If they do it has not been revealed. Because of this there are probably many people acutely afraid to drive their vehicle, I know my son is. Additionally the pinging could happen at an odd time or day or night or at an odd location making it unrealistic or unsafe to pull off the road and stop driving the car. In view of the above, this potentially puts the passengers in great harm and exposes hyndai to potentially huge and costly legal bills. Rather than waiting until the pinging starts it would seem to me that if hundai were to pick up the cost of a car rental for the owners involved, before the pinging starts, owners could drive with peace of mind and feel safe and not have to worry about how much might time ( perhaps seconds, minutes or hours) would elapse before a break down. I am sure that providing the owner¿s a free rental until this problem is resolved would be far far, cheaper and far less time consuming !!!!! doing otherwise would also have disatrous public relations implications. All of the above would seriously affect Hyundai¿s bottom line as well!! hoping after your serious review and thoughtful consideration to your current and future customers you¿ll get back to me indicating you¿ll provide a free rental to the owner¿s involved in this recall. I would like to know where the NHTSA stands on this issue and what it is doing to get hyundia to prodvide free rentals. Awaiting your response, I remain don eck.

48 Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 09/25/2015

Engine making noise and trying to stall out. Worse after oil change. Took to dealership stated metal savings in the oil pan. Car has approx. 42,000 miles on it. Hyundai is not honoring warranty because we cannot find a couple of oil change receipts. We have several showing we got oil changed. They just recalled 2011-2012 models for metal in engine. State problem fixed in April 2012 my car assembled June 2012. A little too close for comfort.

50 Engine Noise problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 08/10/2015

The engine was making a noise, we changed oil as recommended but noise was still prevalent. Car was taken in, engine failure. Engine was replaced with a rebuilt engine. The called it a remanufactured engine and they sent the head out to get assembled. According to the dealer Hyundai does not have band new engines available so they must rebuild the damaged units & send them out or the dealer is told to rebuild. We have no cause the dealer & Hyundai will not tell us the truth. So we have our car back with a remanufactured engine in it not a brand new engine as promised.

51 Engine Noise problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 08/09/2015

While driving on a highway in the middle of traffic my 2011 Sonata completely stopped and the engine totally seized up endangering my entire family. There was no unusual engine sound prior to it stopping and no warning whatsoever. We had to coast to the side of the road, avoiding oncoming traffic. This is totally unacceptable as it endangered 5 lives. Thank goodness we were able to get to the side of the road. We are told that the engine would need to be totally replaced at a min. Engine cost of $5800 not including labor or other parts. In estimating costs, probably $8000 or more. It looks like there is a defect in the rotating assembly that causes sudden and catastrophic engine failure. Hyundai is aware of this problem and has done nothing to prevent it. Now I have no car to drive, and must somehow come up with the above costs or rent a car. The car is out of warranty but was well maintained. This is a serious problem and needs immediate attention.

52 Engine Noise problem of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

I have the limited edition, 2. 0l turbocharged. When the engine is cold, and if you tip-in aggressively, you can hear some screeching sound above 5000 rpm of the engine, easily achieved in second or third gear. The turbo is designed by Mitsubishi and I knew someone who works there. After listening the sound, he indicated it is a case of turbocharger imbalance. I am not sure if it a design issue or mine is just a one off case. I have contacted Hyundai last week, haven't gotten any response yet. I believe the turbo has to be replaced. If it not resolved, over a period of time due to excessive vibration, the journal bearing may fail and the turbo could blast. If anyone has the same issue, please take it seriously.

53 Engine Noise problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 03/04/2015

We purchased this 2011 sonota used from the fox dealership in grand rapids, mi. The car started with odd engine sounds on 3/3/15 while driving city & local and then stalled out. Was able to restart & 2 days later the car stalled again. After multiple tries it did restart and we got it to a shop a few blocks away. After that it would not start. The shop said the engine was frozen. After calling fox huyndai to see if they would help us, as we just bought the car in sept 2013, they would not help and only offered $4000 to install a refab motor. The shop it was at said $4500 for a new motor and neither could guarantee that the same problem wouldn't arrise. We ended up scraping out the car after 4 days of getting quotes and trying to determine our best option. The car was sold to peddle via peddle. Com. (docs attached) peddle sent a west michigan company out to pick up the car from us on 3/9 or 3/10/15.

54 Engine Noise problem of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 02/06/2015

2015 Hyundai Sonata 2t - slow acceleration; car will continue to move when foot on break; loud engine noise; engine light always on. Took car to dealer they said it was a recall issue that they repaired. Drove car two days engine light came back on. Now dealer states they are waiting for parts to come in to fix.

55 Engine Noise problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 12/29/2014

Without notice/warning, engine started making a metallic knocking/flapping sound with a lot of blue smoke exhaust when rapidly accelerating. Shortly after, engine oil light flickered momentarily. From past experience, I knew to pay attention to this. By the end of the same day, I added almost 5 quarts of oil. I also brought the car to local Hyundai dealer for a late afternoon (4:30pm) appointment just before new year's eve. Service advisor mentioned that "by the time the engine oil light comes on you've got less than a quart of oil left". He suggested we bring the car back when they would have more time to work on it. I planned to have 40000-mile service and expected a somewhat expensive repair, so I needed to wait until Feb 4, when I would have funds available. I brought the car for service on 2/4, and was told later that day that the engine was damaged and needed replacement. After thorough inspection, with several photos provided to factory, Hyundai refused to replace the engine under warranty repair, citing my lack of regular service. I had the car serviced at 15000 miles at the dealership where we bought the vehicle in March, 2012, but did not have any other regular service performed. Dealer (not the purchase dealer) requested Hyundai do a "goodwill repair" that would require me to pay $1900 labor, while Hyundai would pay for the engine and all fluids (~$4800). Again, Hyundai refused. I understand my accountability for overlooking regular service, which is why I agreed to pay the $1900 labor portion of a goodwill repair. However, none of this eliminates the fact that the engine oil warning light did not even flicker until after the engine was totally damaged. By Hyundai service advisor admission, there is less than 1 quart of oil left when the warning light activates. What kind of warning indicator only activates after catastrophic damage?.

56 Engine Noise problem of the 2007 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 04/09/2014

The car was making a noise when I started it. The noises got worse as I drove to work. Then the car died twice while in route on the interstate. The oil light came on. The heat gauge was normal. I notices smoke in the rear view mirror. I turned on the hazard flashers and began to get to the shoulder of the road. When I stopped the smoke got worse. I called work. The dotd roadside assistance showed up. I got out of the car and walked back toward him. He asked where my purse was. I turned back to the car and noticed flames coming from under the hood. He got my valuables out of the car, called the fire department and police. The flames were several feet high by the time they got the fire out. I called a tow truck. A fellow worker came and took me to work.
