Vehicle type: 2012 Hyundai Sonata se on Thursday April 14, 2016 at approximately 6p in the evening the air bag check light was illuminated in my vehicle for no apparent reason. The following day, I took the car to the dealer, and was told to make an appointment to have the issue addressed. On sat April 23rd, I was told that the repair was $436 to replace a clock spring assembly (part # 93490-3q120). Due to the fact the vehicle has over 60,000mi, this equipment replacement is not covered by any warranty. I was astonished to find that something of this import would ever need replacement and that such failure in the device would prevent my airbag from deploying in the event of a collision. For this reason, I believe that the warranty on any such item should be unlimited. Without this repair, I do not have a functioning airbag. I contend that the repair of equipment required by the NHTSA should be covered by the manufacturer and warranted by such for the lifetime of the vehicle, as long as the vehicle is operational.

Drivers side aribag light comes on. . . Have seen numerous complaints online of this problem. Solution is 300 dollar seat belt latch or 1600 dollar seat relpacement. . . . . This is safety issue and should be a recall item.

Seatbelt light on for 2006 Hyundai Sonata.
Passenger side "air bag" light has come on. Passenger air bag "on/off" light flashes back and forth when the seat is occupied. Have seen many reports of same on the internet - same year, make and model of automobile. It is reported to be very expensive to repair but sounds like a recall is in order as many vehicles have been found to share the problem not associated with normal wear and tear.
I was heading out of my driveway when my car was hit on left front side by a vehicle traveling on the road. That also triggered another collision in which my car hit another car parked on the street. The hood was gravely damaged. It was a total loss. The critical issue was that no airbag, whatsoever, was inflated to protect the safety of the passenger in the car.

At first it was the radio, turning on and off by itself when I would try to lower the volume it would be louder. My headlights would go out and turn on again, my emergency brake light will turn on as my car would stop in the middle of the street. Air bag deployment sign is on and the bag it is not deployed. The abs, esc and other glow lights will turn on; sometimes I cant roll down the windows or lock the car with the button. Now my car will not start, no power and it resets my clock. I have gone to the dealership twice and they are greedy money hungry !@#$% who do not care for their customers, I replaced the battery and the alternator and its been through diagnostics and the alternator was the only thing found wrong. I have issues with the car at least twice a day and three times its died completely. This is an 2006 Hyundai Sonata it should not give me these problems.
60-70% of the time a smaller person sits in my front passenger seat the "passenger airbag off" remains lit. I took the car in for the first time in 2006, right after buying the car, to have it looked at which time I was told they couldn't recreate the situation. I have 3 different friends/relatives/coworkers who are able to vouch that when they have sat in the seat at various times the light has remained lit. I took the vehicle in today pursuant to the recall notice and yet again I was told that they could not recreate the scenario and so my vehicle is not going to be fixed. I was told that they have had 3 cars tested at this dealership so far and none have had the defect detected even though one other owner complained that her vehicle has had the problem in the past. I don't believe Hyundai has done enough to detect which cars have this defect, nor informed their dealerships on how to detect the problem as they are simply picking people out of their employee base to sit in the seat. The woman who was going to test my seat today said she weighed 150 lbs. I'm not sure that really qualifies as a small statured person, although they did end up testing it with a lighter weight person after I spoke up.
The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Sonata. The vehicle was repaired according to NHTSA campaign id number 08v161000 (air bags); however, the failure is still occurring. The vehicle has been to the dealer on five different occasions for the air bag failure. The current and failure mileages were 18,000.

2006 Hyundai Sonata GLS: a short time after purchasing vehicle, the OCS "passenger airbag off" light would come on with the seat occupied by my wife, weight 150 + lbs. I took it in many times to my dealer. They made several attempts to fix it (unsuccessfully) I complained to the national headquarters, more attempts to fix (unsuccessfully. I was also told after submitting the VIN # that it was not included in the recall. Just about 2 weeks ago I was told by national office that they could not and would no longer attempt to repair the system. I was told after I kept expressing my disbelief that I could submit the problem to the national bbb dispute resolution, which I promptly did. Strangely, today 9/ 06/08, I received a motor recall notice (after being told by at least 4 Hyundai personnel that my vehicle was not eligible for recall. ) after 2 years, the OCS still deactivates the passenger air bag when the seat is occupied. This happens sporadically and usually when we are on the freeway where stopping, jiggling in the seat, bouncing up and down are not possible (all suggestions by service dept. ) my concern to everyone I have spoken to for the past 2 years has been and still is that if the airbag deactivates and we were to have an accident, this could be catastrophic. I have offered to hold them faultless if they would just disable the OCS system and leave the passenger air bag operational as we have no small children or grandchildren. I am hoping one more time that there is a real solution to this problem and will take the vehicle in first thing Monday morning. I was told by my dealer not to bring the car back unless I had a recall notice. Our last word from Hyundai was that their conclusion is that the problem is our fault, not the vehicles, because of the way we sit in the seat.
Intermittent problem with right passenger seat front air bag not detecting an adult passenger and "passenger air bag off" coming on. Took 2007 Hyundai Sonata to dealership in January 2008 to fix problem- they refused because problem is not consistent. After receiving recall letter, took auto back to dealership and again they refused to help us, called their customer assistance center (1888-327-4236) again no help because dealership cannot confirm problem. However, problem still exists.
I received a recall notice from Hyundai indicating that there is a defect and the "passenger air bag off" lamp illuminates while the right front seat is occupied by an small stature adult. I have twin 16 year old daughters and when they sit in the right front seat the light sometimes goes off and it sometimes stays on. I contacted the dealer and let him know the situation and I was told to give it another week. On 9/23 I contacted the dealer again in newark ohio and again explained the situation and craig barger informed me he would have to contact his rep. He let me know via email on 9/26 that again unless I could show them that the light did not go out they couldn't do anything. I then contacted the Hyundai customer assistance center and informed them of the situation and they informed me that they could not do anything unless I proved to them the light would not go out. He told me to go straight to the dealer and I informed him that during the week I work and after work the dealer is closed and has minimal hours on the weekend. I am frustrated and concerned that the safety features of this car is not what I bought.

Passenger airbag restraint system will not activate even when passenger weighing 165 lbs was seated and restrained by seat belt. Hyundai dealership said it was normal for airbag to not always be on and are refused to fix the problem. This was a an error that needed to be fixed before it let to serious harm of any adult sitting in the passenger's seat.

: the contact stated because the passenger side front airbag was calibrated to deactivate when a person under a certain weight sat in the seat, this posed a safety issue for frail elderly adults and adults of small stature. The dealership was aware of the problem and informed the contact the airbag could be recalibrated.
The "airbag off" light in our 2006 Hyundai Sonata randomly illuminates indicating that the airbag is not functioning, even when a large adult is in the passenger sit, sitting upright with no seat covers. This occurs intermittently and is not reproducible at will. Hyundai motor corp and dennis Hyundai of dublin, OH have both refused to fix the problem since it is not reproducible at will.
: the contact stated while driving on the highway, another vehicle entered and started spinning. The contact moved the vehicle to the far lane, but the other vehicle still hit the passenger side door. When this occurred, none of the airbags deployed. There was a police report taken at the scene. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts, but the passenger sustained minor injuries including a broken finger. The vehicle was deemed totaled by the insurance company.

While driving south on us68, an oncoming northbound concrete truck turned directly in front of us. When we hit, the passenger's shoulder harness of my 2003 Hyundai Sonata failed to "lock". I was thrown against the dash and then the airbag deployed directly against my chest. My wife's airbag (she was driving) deployed slightly faster, but late enough that it opened under her chin and popped her head back. She has three damaged disks in her neck (two herniated and one bulging). My shoulder harness was no help, and my airbag actually injured me by firing late and in contact with my chest. My wife's airbag, although slightly faster, caused her injury by deploying slowly.
I was driving down a road at 30-35 mph when I had a sidewall blow out in my right front tire, the blow out caused my airbags to deploy which had knocked me unconscious for a few moments. After contacting Hyundai, they admitted they have heard of this happening before on their 2005 Sonatas, they have not however issued a recall or a notice to consumers warning them of the possible airbag deployment. After being unconscious, I hit 3 parked cars and proceeded to roll my car upside down.

Car stopped in front of us to turn left with no brake lights and no blinker. When we realized he was stopped we immediately hit the brakes. The surface (concrete) on the bridge was slick and did not allow us to have traction. We skidded approx 65 feet and rear-ended the car at approx. 40-45 mph. Passenger front air bad failed to deploy. Drivers side deployed.
While driving air bags automatically deployed. There was no accident.

We recentlty purchased a used but showroom condition Hyundai Sonata with somewhere around 29,000 miles on it from a dealership. After about three weeks my son had to leave it in a parking lot. The throttle/cruise control cable (even tho he did not have the cruise control on) was stuck. He thought the problem was fixed so hedrove the car a few more weeks and was on his way home when the same thing happened again only this time he ran into a utility pole. The car was damaged pretty baddly but thank the lord he was not. He could have been killed. The utility company is charging us about $4000. 00 or more dollars for the work they had to do to the pole. I called Hyundai consumer affairs. The car is at a Hyundai dealership. Consumer affairs is mailing me a form to fill out. I do not know if Hyundai is going to claim responsiblity or not. I feel that this problem needs to be researched to see if there have been any other problems with the throttle/cruise control sticking making it impossible to stop or causing any other problem. I hate to see someone die from this.
The driver's air bag deployed with no warning and no impact.

While driving down the road at about 15 mph, driver in front came to a complete stop. It was really foggy outside, and consumer pressed on the brakes, and hit the other vehicle's bumper, and airbags deployed. Consumer felt that airbags shouldn't have deployed. Dlr said an airbag specialist would look at it. But someone tampered with the car before specialist came.
