1 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 10/01/2020

The air bag sensor in my car is defective. This was already a recall by Hyundai, but for reasons I don't understand does not include my car and I believe it should have. It is the right make, model, and year the original recall included. Apparently the seatbelt tension adjuster is also involved in my case.

8 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 08/06/2019

I would like to file a complaint due to a faulty OCS sensor on my 2008 Sonata (error code b1448). This is a known issue Hyundai initiated campaign 083 to address. In this case the dealership huffines Hyundai did fix the problem by sending the whole seat out to have the sensor reprogramed. However this same sensor failed again. The dealership claimed that they can't reprogram the sensor again and offered to fix it again at my cost (extremely high cost). They are claiming that under campaign 083 their responsibility is to only repair/reprogramming the OCS sensor once. This is a serious safety issue since this OCS sensor failed and the complete airbag system is compromised and won't activate in an accident. I escalated this issue to Hyundai corporate customer care resolution team and they echoed the same comments as the dealership. Their responsibility is to only to repair/reprogramming the OCS sensor once. I asked to have this escalated the next level and this person basically said no and he wouldn't escalate it. After doing some lengthy research there is no other safe way to have this fixed other than going through the dealership at high cost to me or any others. This is a known issue with the OCS sensor, Hyundai knows it's prone to failure. They don't replace the sensor, just reprogram the same faulty sensor and then won't fix it if it fails again. This seems to be a decision by Hyundai to put profits before customer safety. Why was this not a full government forced recall? was Hyundai getting around the recall rules by issuing a campaign? campaign 083 effected close to 400,000 vehicles.

18 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Hyundai Sonata

My airbag sensor light has been on for the past few months. I've looked online and saw that this is a common complaint for Hyundai's. Also, my esc light goes on and sometimes stays on. Again another complaint with this car. Both are safety issues that seem to be negligent on the manufactures part. With the number of complaints that have been logged this should be a safety recall issue that Hyundai should be responsible for.

23 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2002 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

Air bag lite stays on, had no accidents, or crashes, dealer wanted me, to spend a arm and leg to replace the module control unit. I sensed, that that may not be the problem, I took it to a independent shop, and had it diagnosed, with a scanner, and the scanner showed a code bd1406 ppd. Which stands for passenger presence detector, and showed that it was defective. So its a faulty sensor. Which translates to a manufacturer defect. I cannot afford, to spend $1. 500 for a module, when it should only be the defective sensor under the passenger seat, which should total around $360. 00 including labor, and the Hyundai manufacturer should be responsible for the fix. Before I get involved in a accident, and my life is at stake, including my children, and wife. I contacted, Hyundai, and stated that I have a defect, and they wanted proof, as from, a dealership, or otherwise. Please let me know how to resolve this dangerous daily task.

Front passenger weight classification sensor failure. Dealership says the only why to fix it is to replace seat for 1800. 00. Dealership cannot tell me if srs will work when needed. After doing so research online this looks like a big problem with hyundal cars throughout many model years. Hyundai has failed to remit this problem and is selling vehicles to the public with faulty air bag systems.

26 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 12/29/2014

We purchased a 2015 Hyundai Sonata sport/l1 on 26 Dec 2014. My wife requires an extra cushion to sit on due lower back problems. Our previous car (2007 Chevrolet impala) has sensors under the passenger seat that control the passenger air bag deployment. With my wife sitting on the extra cushion, the sensors correctly determined she was sitting in the passenger seat and set the airbag to operate if we were to be involved in an accident. Not realizing we were going to have a problem with the new Hyundai Sonata airbag sensors, we did not take the extra cushion along with us on the test drive. Three days later we discovered that the passenger airbag sensor did not recognize my wife sitting in the passenger seat while using her extra cushion for support. I brought this to the attention of the Hyundai service department where I purchased the car. Several attempts to correct the problem were unsuccessful, and I finally convinced the general manager to have the OCS system connected to the diagnostic computer and check the operating specifications. The general manager and the service manager informed me that the sensors were working properly, but they stated that Hyundai is now using a "gel pack" in the seat to sense if someone is sitting there. In the owners manual there is a note saying that a thick coat or extra cushion will not allow the sensors to operate properly. This seems to be a safety problem since anyone wearing a thick coat and sitting in the front passenger seat of the 2015 Sonata would not be protected by the airbag. Also, my wife is not the only person using an extra cushion for support while riding in the front passenger seat of a vehicle. We are now stuck with a new car that is unsafe for my wife to ride in "comfortably". We have experimented with "other" vehicles, and the extra cushion does not effect the sensors in them.

29 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 10/10/2014

Suddenly, an warning sign for air bag appeared on the dash board. I was not comfortable to drive a car with air bag error sign. I brought my to my mechanic. It was diagnosed due to defective sensor in a buckle clip in a front passenger seat. Then, I brought my car into local dealer but they denied to repair in a warranty or recall. I heard that the same defect was not uncommon in Sonata around that year. If so, this defect should be covered by recall. I love my Sonata and Hyundai car!.

31 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/29/2014

Sensors cause air system light to illuminate. System needs to be reset at dealership to clear. Technician said airbag won't deploy while this fault occurs. I have had this issue 4or 5 times. When I google Hyundai Sonata airbag issues I see many similar experiences with other people. This could be a potential safety hazard. I was told it was caused by a seat sensor. Yet under warranty they did not replace. No car is out of warranty.

32 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/27/2013

Red "air bag" instrument panel light came on and has not gone off in 5 days. I am currently planning to make an appointment with a Hyundai dealer to address another air bag issue with the passenger air bag system under a recall initially released on 4/2008, but which I have only recently received notice in the past few months. This recall does not address the current problem as I understand it from various consumer forums. However there are a substantial number of people complaining about this similar issue that appears to be all part of a defective OCS system overall. Since the red lamp indicates that the air bag system is now deactivated, this raises a more serious issue than the passenger sensor issue, since now the driver as well is unprotected.

33 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/07/2013

On Nov. 7, 2013, I notified Hyundai that we had been experiencing problems with the Sonata's occupant classification system (OCS). The system did not consistently recognize my wife as an adult passenger, even though she clearly exceeded the necessary weight threshold designed to activate the airbag sensor. Hyundai, after mechanical/electronic review, stated the OCS was working as designed. It wasn't. We returned the vehicle for service on April 1, 2014, and again on may 22, 2014, only to have Hyundai tell us the OCS was operating "ok". Again, on July 30, 2015, we returned the vehicle for service, as the OCS was still malfunctioning. Hyundai, at that time, performed a reprogramming. Still the OCS does not consistently recognize my wife as an adult passenger. I have contacted Hyundai an almost innumerable number of times in regard to this issue. Though Hyundai even had an arbitrator document the defect, to date we still have no resolution. It is unsafe for my wife, or any other adult passenger, to ride in the car. And, as one can see by the history, it has been that way for quite some time.

34 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 10/28/2013

My car was recalled for a faulty OCS system. This sensor is supposed to disable the passenger airbag when it detects a child, but a recall was issued because the sensor disables the airbag even for some adults. I have this problem too. I often notice that the "passenger airbag off" light illuminates when certain adult passengers over 120 pounds sit in the passenger seat. . So I brought my car to the pacifico Hyundai dealership in philadelphia, after examining my vehicle, the dealership representative told me, in no uncertain terms, that the mechanic verified that the system operated correctly, despite my insistence that the airbag was turned off for some adult passengers. As the purpose of the recall was to fix the sensor for exactly the problem my car was exhibiting, I was worried that the dealership did not conduct the proper tests. The fact of the matter is that the airbag on my car is disabled for some adult passengers. After hours of calling the Hyundai hotline and speaking with customer representatives, I was eventually told by a case manager that the dealership did not perform the necessary diagnostic test, and I should bring in my vehicle again. This is quite disturbing--if the dealership lied to me about conducting the safety tests, they very well could have lied to other customers as well. How many other Hyundai car owners are driving around with a faulty airbag because the dealership lied about conducting this safety test? how many other safety recalls did they violate? the dealership exhibited willful neglect in complying with this safety recall, and this needs to be addressed so they do not continue to do so.

35 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 07/25/2013

Passenger front seat air bag buckle/sensor assembly has failed. After seeing so many similar reports, I want to make aware that I have similar issues. I am also wondering if this has anything to do with the recall on the OCS? I have yet to have the recall fixed, because they have refused to do so, until I received another letter and called Hyundai. Who then called the dealer. Am still waiting for the results.
