Tire Bulge Problems of Hyundai Sonata

On January 16, 2017, at approximately 3:50pm arizona time, on westbound I-40 about two miles from exit 9, the left front kuhmo solus ta31 tire blew out its sidewall at 45mph in a construction zone. The result was the tire was destroyed with damage to both driver-side wheels. In addition, a bulge was noticed in the left rear tire. All four tires were replaced. The damage to the wheels is considered cosmetic and they were not replaced due to a cost of $427 each. The road condition and visibility at the time of the accident were excellent. The tires had 17,560 miles on them and were maintained according to manufacturer specifications regarding pressure and rotation.

First incident, traveling MD 4 when tire indicator came on dash board (may 2014) back passenger tire had huge bulge at rim of hubcap with hissing sound due to escaping air (4 31816 215/60r16 yoko avid touring -s dot ccf1 f2712 purchased August 2013). Tire replaced at no cost to me due to no evident of damage inside the tire, thus a "defect" according to service tech. December 24, 2014 traveling on interstate 97 s; front passenger tire blew out without warning; abs system slowed car down was able to move from second lanes to right shoulder without incident. Tire has about a 3-inch rip from rim up. With both tires, I was asked what did I hit and both times the answer was nothing. This is the second of four tires to go bad in a little over one year. I now feel the other two tires are ticking time bombs and my family and I may not be so fortunate the next time this happens.

I bought a 2010 Hyundai Sonata with 10k miles on it the end of March 2011. The tires on the vehicle were hankook optimo h 426. After I had put less than 10k additional miles on the vehicle, I had one of the tires bulge and implode from within. Within the month following this 2 more tires bulged on the sidewall and were replaced. The tires were all in different spots on my vehicle and it was three separate incidents. Neither the Hyundai dealership nor hankook tires would take responsibility for this defect in the tires.
