Failure Date: 12/09/2017

Upon hitting a pothole the tire a kumho 215/55/r17 solus ta31 sidewall gave out on the passenger front side. The next day while driving I ran over a small object the tire's sidewall failed again this time on the driver's front side. I had two blowouts in 2 days from routine driving on this tire. The tire pressure was @37 each time. I was traveling roughly 45-50 miles per hour. In both instances the sidewall split.

The exact same tire that came on the car new, had to be replaced at 17,000 miles because of sidewall cracking. The original tires were 4 years old and all 4 had sidewall damage they have never been damaged and have always been properally inflated. The original tires were never damaged or under inflated. This is a manufacture defect and a safety issue. The car has never gone more than 7 days without being driven. It's usually driven every day or every other day.

5 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 06/04/2012

The sides of the tire in question seem very prone to sidewall failure. This tire has a lip on it that extends above the wheel's rim (as opposed to the smooth, rounded surface of other tires). Upon driving up on a curb while parking the car at work, a one inch flap of rubber 1/4" deep was ripped from our right rear tire. The right front tire shows two spots where a part of the tire's lip was ripped off (where it is flush with the tire) from other brushes against the curb. Most alarming is the left front tire which has a 1/2" crack or incision in the tire -- and this is not even close to the rim and shows no sign of hitting a curb. It's hard to tell how deep the incision is but it is at least 1/8" deep. The new 2012 Hyundai Sonata equipped with these tires was purchased in Nov. 2011. The vehicle currently has a little more than 5,000 miles on it. In the combined 80 years we have been driving, we have never experienced sidewall failure from driving onto a curb or just finding a crack in the tire. I do want to point out that hankook, the manufacturer, has had a recall for its hankook / dynapro as / p265/70r17s rh03 (NHTSA campaign id number: 10t021000). The cause was sidewall failure. We replaced the tire with the gash in it. We do have photos of the tires in question and can send pdfs to you if so desired. We also kept the tire with the gash in case we needed it for some reason in pursuing this (additional photos, insepction, etc. ). It is hard to determine the date of when the damage was done so I've listed the date that the tire with the rip was first noticed. The tire with the incision or crack in it was noticed today (7-14-12) while getting the other tire replaced. The complete description of the tire size is 225/45r18-95v.

7 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2007 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 04/05/2010

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) I own a 2007 Hyundai Sonata. This past week I have been informed that the michelin tires need replacing. They are cracked in the sidewall. Michelin guarantees these tires for 6 years and the tire company I went to said that I really should replace them for safety reasons. Are we facing another firestone incident? if I hadn't had a flat tire I would have never discovered this. The tire company said michelin was really great to work with they allowed me 65% on my tires that have been drivenless than 14,000 miles. I would only have to pay $474. 00 dollars for new tires. I think that a tire that is giving away in the sidewall should be replaced free of charge !!! what if I wasn't appraised of the situation and had a blowout. I haven't replaced them yet because of cost. Should I stop driving the car ? wasn't firestone in trouble for faulty tires ? what about other drivers out there with a similar situation ? I just think that a car's tires should be able to stand up longer than 29 months and 14,000 miles. Please advise. [xxx].

12 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2005 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 10/01/2005

I was driving down a road at 30-35 mph when I had a sidewall blow out in my right front tire, the blow out caused my airbags to deploy which had knocked me unconscious for a few moments. After contacting Hyundai, they admitted they have heard of this happening before on their 2005 Sonatas, they have not however issued a recall or a notice to consumers warning them of the possible airbag deployment. After being unconscious, I hit 3 parked cars and proceeded to roll my car upside down.
