In June of 2020 I got an emergency warning on my vehicle's dash that there was a problem with the hybrid system and should stop my car immediately and take it to the dealership. The vehicle slowed to 20 m. P. H. Then came to a stop, I took the car to the dealer where it was kept for 10 days, I was told they could not duplicate the problem and I picked up the vehicle. Half a block from the dealer it happened again, I returned the vehicle to the dealer they said it was a spark plug which was replaced. I expressed my concern with the car coming to a stop in the middle of traffic. On March 3, 2021, the same thing happened, a warning on my dash, the vehicle slowed and came to a complete stop. I again took it to the dealer and was told that the electronic system was having issues with the water pump and new pump would be ordered. I again expressed concern as now I do not feel the vehicle is safe to drive. I live in southern California and take the freeways on a regular basis. Having the car come to a stop in the middle of a busy freeway is extremely dangerous to me and other drivers.

Vehicle has persistent issue with hybrid system. Check engine light will come on, and after some period of time, error message "check hybrid system. Turn off engine. " will appear. Car then loses power from combustion engine, and can only operate on electric. Requires pulling the car over, turning the car off, then turning the car back on, which will allow power to the combustion engine to be temporarily restored, but the check engine light will remain on. The car is unsafe to drive in this state until looked at by the dealer. The diagnostic code is p2600. This vehicle has been taken in for service by the same dealer for the same issue four times, and is now scheduled for a fifth. The dealer has been able to fix the issue three times for a period of about 7-12 months after replacing the water pump, but issue continues to recur. Dates of issues and mileage below: March 1, 2018: 27,451 October 15, 2018: 39,820 June 3, 2019: 47,380 July 26, 2020: 60,500.
2008 Hyundai Sonata 6cyl dohc 3. 3l / 152812 water pump went out. Replaced it. Then water ended up in the oil that got into the lifters. Ended up getting another motor. Then my a/c stopped working (didn't blow cool or cold air). Changed oil and oil filter myself along with the oil sensor ( connected to oil filter spot) that was leaking bad as long as the car was running. I was driving on the interstate, in front of a loaded 18 wheeler, driving 75 then my car jerked real hard then dropped down to 40. I had to pull over illegally to keep from getting hit by the truck. As I was catching my breath I turned the car off. When I started it back up it made a weird tick noise. Haven't heard that noise since. When I pulled off it hesitated to change gears from 2 to 3. It finally changed and did not come out of 3rd. Got it towed home. Had my moms boyfriend to check the transmission. He drove it and it was fine. Next morning started car and it sounded like a vacuum cleaner. (low volume) finally it went away. When I headed to work, it hesitated at first. The vacuum noise came back and was louder. Then I sped up to 50, it hard jerked again, and stayed in 3rd gear. As I went further loss power in inside lane of highway and car was smoking under the hood. Like it didn't know I was pushing the gas pedal. Started shaking at around 20 miles an hour. Pulled over and check engine light came on. Called a friend to pull me back home. It was reversing fine but would not go forward. So I changed the accelerator pedal sensor (whole pedal) that wasn't the problem. So then I changed the entire fuel pump/ injector. Still have all parts by the way. That wasn't the problem either. Put it on the machine and it gave a code for ecm and oxygen sensor. Esc light came on as well as tpms, when I started the car. I could move forward but it was like I wasnt. This all started in February 2019.

The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the warning message "shut off" had displayed before the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was later taken to the local dealer fairfax Hyundai located at 10925 fairfax blvd, fairfax, va 22030 who diagnosed that the water pump and engine gasket were faulty. The vehicle was repaired and the failure was remedied. Additionally, the instrument panel displayed had suddenly shut off while driving. The cause of the failure was not determined. The engine would also rev very high while operating the vehicle. The main relay was replaced by the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 22,700.
While driving, the damper pulley seperates and the power steering fails along with the water pump and the alternator. This damper as it is called is a device that drives all the belt powered devices on the engine. I asked the dealer if there was a recall on this and the reply was no. How can a power steering failure not be a recall? when you are turning and the power steering fails I would say the majority of drivers would not be able to steer the vehicle out of this situation. Look online and view all the places that list this problem. This is a big safety issue the vehicle steers very hard and is difficult to control.
