1 Equipment problem of the 2018 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 08/04/2026

My 2018 Hyundai Tucson limited equipped with the 1. 6t engine and 7-speed ecoshift dual-clutch transmission (dct) is suffering from severe, dangerous clutch judder, slippage, and sudden acceleration hesitation. This vehicle matches the exact manufacturing defects and symptoms outlined in Hyundai technical service bulletin TSB 21-at-014h, but the defect has never been properly resolved by the manufacturer. The primary safety defect occurs when accelerating from a complete stop or during low-speed maneuvers (such as yielding at a roundabout or turning at an intersection). When pressing the gas pedal, the transmission violently shudders, hesitates, and fails to properly engage the clutch pack. This creates a severe, unpredictable time lag where the engine revs but the vehicle experiences a total loss of motive power and fails to move forward. This unexpected loss of propulsion has caused multiple near-miss situations where oncoming traffic had to slam on their brakes to avoid hitting my vehicle because it stalled or lagged while pulling out. It is an immediate physical safety hazard to myself, my passengers, and other drivers on the road. The failure is completely unpredictable and significantly worsens in warm weather or during stop-and-go driving conditions. I previously presented this vehicle to an authorized Hyundai dealership to complain about this exact transmission hesitation and shuddering while the vehicle was still covered under the factory warranty window. The service department failed to properly log, diagnose, or repair the failing double clutch pack at that time. Because the defect was reported within the warranty period and never corrected, the safety hazard has persisted and deteriorated to the point where the vehicle is now unsafe to operate in normal traffic. Hyundai is currently refusing to cover the full cost of this safety-related transmission failure.

2 Equipment problem of the 2026 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 07/29/2026

The rear liftgate opened unexpectedly after garage door started to open by remote inside house and causing damage to rear liftgate. The auto liftgate was on at time, fob was no where near remote. Vehicle has been parked and used for three months there with no problems. Dearler checked for error codes, but none found.

3 Equipment problem of the 2021 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 07/22/2026

This vehicle burns oil at an alarming rate. I am getting oil changes every 3k miles, and when I take it in, the dipstick is dry. I receive no oil lights to tell me it is low. I just had to get spark plugs and the mechanic at the garage told me this was due to the oil consumption issue in these vehicles. I am at 71,000 miles.

5 Equipment problem of the 2023 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 07/13/2026

The vehicle developed an intermittent but potentially dangerous engine control malfunction. After the engine reached normal operating temperature, the engine speed (rpm) would repeatedly surge while the vehicle was stopped in park and neutral, fluctuating from approximately 1,000 rpm to over 3,000 rpm without any throttle input from the driver. The condition occurred with the air conditioning turned off and could be reproduced multiple times. At approximately the same time, the auto start/stop system stopped functioning and displayed a warning indicator. A malfunction indicator lamp (check engine light) also appeared during the incident. The warning light later turned off, but the engine surging continued. This unexpected increase in engine speed raises concerns about unintended vehicle movement or loss of driver control if the condition were to occur while shifting into gear or while driving. The unpredictable nature of the malfunction presents a potential safety risk to the occupants of the vehicle and to others on the road. The vehicle has been taken to an authorized Hyundai dealership for diagnosis and repair and remains under inspection. The problem is available for inspection. During my research, I found numerous reports from other Hyundai owners describing similar engine surging, idle fluctuation, and auto start/stop malfunctions involving comparable vehicles. Because similar complaints appear to have been reported by multiple owners, I am submitting this report so the issue can be evaluated for a possible broader safety defect. I have videos of the incident.

6 Equipment problem of the 2026 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 07/09/2026

7/9/2026 check engine light on at 320 miles. Had car 3 weeks. Took to dealership they ran diagnostics & the code came up as p050b00 (cold start ignition timing performance). Dealership told me that the manufacture knows there is a problem but does not know how to fix at this time. I was told there was nothing they can do and keep driving the car with a check engine light on, which is ridiculous. Filed a claim that day with the manufacturer. Still no response, but their customer service tells me my case has been escalated over a week now and no claims person assigned to my case, since then I've noticed that when slowing down the car engine shuts off intermittently. It also did this the night before the check engine light came on. This is extremely dangerous when I'm driving.

7 Equipment problem of the 2025 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 07/07/2026

I was sold this vehicle as new. Then I look it up and it has these recalls. They should have to buy it back.

8 Equipment problem of the 2026 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 07/06/2026

Federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) 111 regulates rear visibility systems. It requires backup cameras to shut off within a specific time or distance after moving forward to prevent driver distraction. A screen stuck on the reverse camera means the vehicle failed to comply with federal safety safety standards in that moment, actively flashing an illegal, high-contrast visual distraction while trying to navigate. I am writing to formally report a critical safety defect regarding the infotainment system in my 2026 Hyundai Tucson, which directly resulted in property damage on 7/6/26. While driving at approximately 35 mph, the center display screen failed to disengage the rear view camera. The persistent, high-visibility flashing of moving traffic behind me in my peripheral vision completely obscured my forward safety alerts and navigation, creating an immediate visual hazard. This system glitch distracted me at a critical moment, causing an impact with a curb. Given that this incident was precipitated by a verified malfunction of a federally regulated safety system (fmvss 111), I requested that Hyundai corporate review this case, investigate the failure of this component, and cover the cost of the $3,337 structural repairs. They have denied my request. I am aware that NHTSA recall 26v400000/Hyundai recall 304 is pending complete entry of all affected vehicles (vehicle was built at the montgomery plant). Hyundai issued technical service bulletin TSB 24-be-001h for 2022–2026 Tucsons. It officially documents that these infotainment systems suffer from "freezing, lagging, unresponsive touchscreens, and intermittent blank screens". The bulletin attributes this to a loose internal coaxial cable and software bugs. I feel strongly that the camera freeze is a direct byproduct of this documented hardware/software defect. Hyundai explicitly stated to the federal government: "an instrument panel display that fails increases the risk of crash".

9 Equipment problem of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 07/01/2026

While driving at night, the headlights on my 2022 Hyundai Tucson hybrid shut off randomly, including when using the turn signal. The lights will turn off without warning at highway speeds, creating a serious safety hazard. Using the turn signal can cause the headlights to turn off, and sometimes using the turn signal will temporarily turn them back on. The headlight mode also changes by itself while driving (auto to off to on to off). Additionally, when the vehicle is turned off, the headlights often stay on no matter what mode the switch is in. I have to restart the vehicle and manipulate the turn signal/headlight stalk multiple times to get the lights to turn off. This is a recurring and dangerous failure that affects nighttime visibility and safety for me and my family. No other electrical issues are present. This is available for inspection. Safety for my family and all others on the road put at risk as the headlights randomly shut off at night. The problem was reproduced by the dealer. The dealer quoted a $1,500 repair, but this a safety?critical defect in the lighting control system.

10 Equipment problem of the 2026 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/25/2026

My car was recalled because the auto brake was triggering incorrectly and causing issues (at least 4 accidents with injuries are known to have been casued by this problem). I brought my car in to have the auto braking issue fixed, after I had already been rear ended due to it automatically activating (submitted a previous NHTSA claim about this. ) the same defect recurred while I was driving yesterday evening. A pedestrian had fully cleared a crosswalk, I attempted to pull forward, and the auto-brake triggered without cause, locking up the vehicle and nearly causing me to be rear ended again. This is an ongoing safety issue that was supposed to have been corrected and clearly was not.

11 Equipment problem of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/24/2026

Subject: formal safety complaint regarding steering failure – 2017 Hyundai Tucson to whom it may concern, I am submitting this complaint to request that the national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA) investigate a potentially serious safety defect involving the motor-driven power steering (mdps) system in my 2017 Hyundai Tucson. I am the second owner of this vehicle. The vehicle currently has approximately 61,000 miles and remains within Hyundai's 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty period applicable to subsequent owners. Approximately two years ago, the vehicle's engine was replaced under a Hyundai safety recall. Recently, I began experiencing intermittent steering problems in which the steering wheel becomes extremely difficult to turn and appears to momentarily jam or lock while driving. This condition significantly affects vehicle control and creates a serious safety hazard, particularly during turns, lane changes, or emergency maneuvers. I brought the vehicle to advantage Hyundai in [xxx] for diagnosis. The dealership determined that the vehicle had a motor position sensor error (diagnostic trouble code c2401) within the motor-driven power steering (mdps) system. The dealership informed me that the repair is not covered under the vehicle's warranty and declined to repair it. The dealer also submitted a request to Hyundai for goodwill assistance (prior authorization no. Xxx), but Hyundai denied that request. I subsequently contacted Hyundai national consumer affairs (case no. Xxx) seeking assistance. Unfortunately, Hyundai also denied my request despite the relatively low mileage and the serious safety implications of the steering malfunction. My concern extends beyond the cost of repair. A malfunction in the electronic power steering system that causes steering to bind, jam, or become difficult to control presents a significant risk of a crash, injury, or loss of life. Steering is one of the most critical safety information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C.

12 Equipment problem of the 2018 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/23/2026

Car shaking, oil is burning , and drive hard. Engine and, oil light is now appearing.

13 Equipment problem of the 2023 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/21/2026

Horn on vehicle consistently goes out. Either goes out entirely or the volume of the horn is below a safe level. This is a known Hyundai issue and Hyundai refuses to acknowledge it on this specific model, but has acknowledged it on different models. I have had multiple repairs by Hyundai directly, and the horn consistently keeps going out. There are sometimes in dangerous situations where I need to utilize the horn to avoid an accident and warn other drivers of danger, and I am unable to do so, and it causes dangerous driving situations. This is a known defect on multiple Hyundai vehicles in this year, but the Tucson is one of the few vehicles they will not call a voluntary recall on and NHTSA needs to be notified about this and act accordingly as a regulatory body to protect consumers and people on the road.

14 Equipment problem of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/16/2026

Fuel door actuator failed to unlock had to take the car into the dealership to replace a malfunctioning actuator. Left me stranded at a gas station unable to fuel the car.

15 Equipment problem of the 2025 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/01/2026

Sunroof exploded I was driving at high speed on a highway. Sounded like a gun fired. Glass must have flown back towards other cars. Noise was terrifying and I slowed to gain my composure before pulling to the side of the highway and calling the police. Car is currently at a local dealership. My initial thought was that something like a rock hit the sunroof, but on my own inspection it appears the explosion was outward. There is no evidence of something falling on it. No scratches on the inside roof cover which was closed at the time. No makes on the roof rack or scratches on the car roof. There was no warning of any kind from the vehicle that it might occur. After doing some research I discovered that there have been many cases of exploding sunroofs on Hyundai cars. Dealership is under the assumption that a rock hit the roof, but are not willing to give me a report of an examination into what might have caused it. They disregarded my conclusion that it exploded outward.

16 Equipment problem of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/31/2026

Catalytic converter has now failed twice with only 105,000 miles.

17 Equipment problem of the 2023 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/22/2026

I was driving on the freeway no where near an overpass going about 65mph when the front panel on my panaromaic sunroof exploded and glass went everywhere. There is no signs that a rock could have possibly hit it. My safety was at risk because I could have crashed and broken glass rained down on me. There were no warning signs and the vehicle has not been inspected yet, but it will be.

18 Equipment problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/22/2026

The power window motor and regulator on the drivers side failed to roll up the window. It was raining and made it stessful driving home . The window was stuck down and the rain was soaking the inside of the car. Very distracting while driving.

21 Equipment problem of the 2026 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/19/2026

The lower corner of the driver's side door has an extremely sharp edge that caused a laceration to my lower leg during normal exit from the vehicle. No unusual movement or action was taken — I was simply closing the door after exiting. The sharp edge at the bottom corner of the door made contact with my leg, resulting in a bleeding laceration with surrounding bruising and ecchymosis requiring wound care. The injury occurred despite wearing pants. This is a new 2026 vehicle and this is a recurring issue reported by other Hyundai Tucson and palisade owners in owner forums. The design of the lower door corner, which wraps under the vehicle body, creates a sharp edge that poses an injury hazard during routine entry and exit. I am filing this complaint to establish a record with NHTSA, as multiple owners have reported similar injuries across Hyundai's SUV lineup. I have photographic documentation of the injury.

22 Equipment problem of the 2018 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/19/2026

Unknown -a catalytic converter clogged after being installed - only 14 months following installation, causing rough and unsafe acceleration, inability to shift gears properly, and need to drive with hazards on. It is clear that there is an issue with the engine/exhaust and system in this vehicle. Additionally, the car needs oil added regularly and seems to be burning it, as indicated by low level.

23 Equipment problem of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/19/2026

The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Tucson. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 25v893000(trailer hitches); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The local dealer was contacted and it was confirmed that the part was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer and local dealer was not contact made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced the failure.

24 Equipment problem of the 2023 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/18/2026

The reverse beeping is just too loud for an hybrid and many people online agree. I fully agree with having mandates for electric vehicles for safety concerns however they should not be so loud that they are louder or near as loud as a commercial truck and disturb residents. In fact Hyundai responded to the complaints by re-designing it for 2025 and newer facelifts but won't give any services to upgrade it to newer versions. I fully believe that Hyundai should and must offer services to use the new updated vess.

25 Equipment problem of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/17/2026

Unintended acceleration, brakes unable to stop vehicle. Almost hit a car stopped at red light. I was able steer right avoiding hitting the stopped car and quickly put the car in neutral and then applied the brakes again. I was able to drive home another 10 miles. I had the car towed on 5/18/2026 to the car dealership for inspection. This put the car stopped and me and my wife at risk of injury. Car dealership has inspected the car and can not duplicate the problem. No warning lights before the event.

26 Equipment problem of the 2024 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/12/2026

The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for repairs unrelated to a recall but recall repairs were completed unbeknownst to the contact for NHTSA campaign number 25v893000 (trailer hitches). The dealer removed the wiring harness which rendered the tow hitch inoperable. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and informed the contact that the removal of the wiring harness was the fix for the recall repair. The contact stated that he purchased the specific xrt model due to the specific feature of the tow hitch and now it is inoperable. The approximate failure mileage was 49200.

27 Equipment problem of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/11/2026

The vehicle has experienced life-threatening safety defects during operation; shaking, hesitation, and stalling in high-speed traffic. The vehicle unexpectedly stalled/lost power while driving, putting myself and others in direct risk of collision. The Hyundai dealership claimed it needed an actuator gasket replacement, throttle body replacement, and ecm/tcm update. The vehicle had no warning lights until after it stalled, then warning lights illuminated briefly. The Hyundai dealership claimed repairs were "completed" 5/8/26; within 72 hours of "completion" the vehicle's symptoms reappeared. The Hyundai executive case manager has made no efforts to resolve this life-threatening safety issue. This has put myself and children in danger and is legally unsafe to drive.

28 Equipment problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/10/2026

Oil drains very fast even with regular oil changes and maintenance. The vehicle began shaking and then completely stopped with very little warning. Check engine light flashed for under 60 seconds then vehicle would not move forward on the highway creating a major safety hazard. Engine smelled hot and like burning rubber.

29 Equipment problem of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/08/2026

This recall still hasn’t been resolved. Why hasn’t the manufacturer found a fix for this problem I have owned the vehicle for 4 years they should have known about this and fixed it by now. Nhtsa recall number: 25v-893 Hyundai recall number: 290.

30 Equipment problem of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/06/2026

The issue involves the vehicle’s drivetrain and hybrid/electronic control system, where the car suddenly jerked forward in stop-and-go traffic on the freeway as if it had been struck from behind. Immediately following this event, the vehicle would not accelerate beyond approximately 40 mph, indicating a loss of normal power. This created a significant safety risk, as the sudden jerking could have led to a rear-end collision, and the inability to accelerate properly made it difficult to keep up with traffic on the freeway. I was barely able to safely pull off the freeway while surrounding traffic continued at higher speeds, increasing the risk to myself and other drivers. The problem appeared to resolve after turning the vehicle off and then back on; however, this raises concern about intermittent failure. The vehicle was taken to a dealership for inspection, but they were unable to reproduce or identify the issue. The vehicle remains available for inspection upon request. The vehicle has been inspected by a dealer but not by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. Prior to the failure, there were no warning lights, messages, or noticeable symptoms indicating an issue. Based on similar reported experiences, this event may be consistent with a “limp mode” condition or a malfunction in the transition between the electric motor and gasoline engine, potentially involving the transmission or hybrid control system.

31 Equipment problem of the 2024 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/05/2026

Hyundai recall 290 was performed on my vehicle by an authorized dealer. Because Hyundai has not manufactured or supplied the necessary extension cable connecting the new module to the hitch, the remedy is incomplete, and my factory-purchased towing equipment is now entirely inoperable. The dealer has stated "campaign complete" and has no plans to get the necessary cable.

32 Equipment problem of the 2024 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/03/2026

The contact owns a 2024 Hyundai tuscon. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph the vehicle rear of a second vehicle during the failure the no safety features had activated including the airbag, collision avoidance features. During the incident the vehicle collided with the same vehicle twice although the brake pedal was pressed. During incident the driver sustained neck, shoulder and back injuries and was unconscious and transported to the hospital. A police report was taken at the scene. The vehicle was destroy the towed away. The contact was informed that the safety sensor had failed during the incident. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 5,000.

33 Equipment problem of the 2026 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/02/2026

The 2026 Hyundai Tucson hybrid does not have an option to turn off the beeping notification “consider taking a break”. It is consistent and alarming when it does go off. It is very distracting and therefore dangerous as it goes off abruptly multiple times a day while I am driving. It is available for inspection and the dealership has attempted to find a solution but unable to. There is no warning prior to the message, it goes off beeping loudly and flashing a display of a coffee mug with a written message to consider taking a break. Please consider escalating this to the company so it can hopefully be fixed with a software update. Thank you.

34 Equipment problem of the 2025 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/01/2026

The head-up display and the digital display cluster turn off and on while driving. The digital display cluster seems to lose connection and will show a "no signal" message. This will happen for minutes at a time. When this happens, the display is black and does not show speed or other important safety information. The vehicle has been inspected twice by the dealership; they are not able to replicate the issue. This problem began within weeks of purchasing the new vehicle.

35 Equipment problem of the 2025 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 04/30/2026

My 2025 Hyundai Tucson required the front brake rotors to be resurfaced at approximately 12,200 miles. The Hyundai dealership diagnosed the rotors as overheated and warped, despite the brake pads being in good condition. The repair occurred before Hyundai issued recall 302 (NHTSA recall 26v-316). Hyundai recall 302 identifies a defect in the forward collision-avoidance (fca) system’s front-camera software that can cause the fca system to engage earlier than expected and potentially result in sudden braking. Hyundai’s fca system is capable of automatically applying the brakes. I am concerned that premature or unintended brake application associated with this recalled software condition may have contributed to excessive brake heat and premature overheating/warping of my front rotors. I am not claiming that this causal relationship has been established. Rather, I am reporting a potential safety defect and asking NHTSA to evaluate whether there may be a relationship. The dealership confirmed that the rotors were overheated/warped but characterized the condition as wear and tear. Hyundai motor America subsequently denied my reimbursement request on the same basis. I have repeatedly asked Hyundai to evaluate whether recall 302 could have contributed to the brake condition, but Hyundai has not acknowledged or technically addressed this potential relationship. The original rotors are no longer available for inspection because they were resurfaced during the repair. The dealership performed and documented the diagnosis and repair. I am submitting this complaint because I believe the combination of premature rotor overheating/warping at only 12,200 miles and a subsequently identified fca defect involving unexpected braking warrants investigation.
