Hyundai Tucson owners have reported 838 problems related to equipment (under the equipment category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Hyundai Tucson based on all problems reported for the Tucson.
The vehicle has experienced life-threatening safety defects during operation; shaking, hesitation, and stalling in high-speed traffic. The vehicle unexpectedly stalled/lost power while driving, putting myself and others in direct risk of collision. The Hyundai dealership claimed it needed an actuator gasket replacement, throttle body replacement, and ecm/tcm update. The vehicle had no warning lights until after it stalled, then warning lights illuminated briefly. The Hyundai dealership claimed repairs were "completed" 5/8/26; within 72 hours of "completion" the vehicle's symptoms reappeared. The Hyundai executive case manager has made no efforts to resolve this life-threatening safety issue. This has put myself and children in danger and is legally unsafe to drive.

Oil drains very fast even with regular oil changes and maintenance. The vehicle began shaking and then completely stopped with very little warning. Check engine light flashed for under 60 seconds then vehicle would not move forward on the highway creating a major safety hazard. Engine smelled hot and like burning rubber.

This recall still hasn’t been resolved. Why hasn’t the manufacturer found a fix for this problem I have owned the vehicle for 4 years they should have known about this and fixed it by now. Nhtsa recall number: 25v-893 Hyundai recall number: 290.

The issue involves the vehicle’s drivetrain and hybrid/electronic control system, where the car suddenly jerked forward in stop-and-go traffic on the freeway as if it had been struck from behind. Immediately following this event, the vehicle would not accelerate beyond approximately 40 mph, indicating a loss of normal power. This created a significant safety risk, as the sudden jerking could have led to a rear-end collision, and the inability to accelerate properly made it difficult to keep up with traffic on the freeway. I was barely able to safely pull off the freeway while surrounding traffic continued at higher speeds, increasing the risk to myself and other drivers. The problem appeared to resolve after turning the vehicle off and then back on; however, this raises concern about intermittent failure. The vehicle was taken to a dealership for inspection, but they were unable to reproduce or identify the issue. The vehicle remains available for inspection upon request. The vehicle has been inspected by a dealer but not by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. Prior to the failure, there were no warning lights, messages, or noticeable symptoms indicating an issue. Based on similar reported experiences, this event may be consistent with a “limp mode” condition or a malfunction in the transition between the electric motor and gasoline engine, potentially involving the transmission or hybrid control system.
Hyundai recall 290 was performed on my vehicle by an authorized dealer. Because Hyundai has not manufactured or supplied the necessary extension cable connecting the new module to the hitch, the remedy is incomplete, and my factory-purchased towing equipment is now entirely inoperable. The dealer has stated "campaign complete" and has no plans to get the necessary cable.

During incident the driver sustained neck, shoulder and back injuries and was unconscious and transported to the hospital. A police report was taken at the scene. The vehicle was destroy the towed away. The contact was informed that the safety sensor had failed during the incident. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 5,000.
The 2026 Hyundai Tucson hybrid does not have an option to turn off the beeping notification “consider taking a break”. It is consistent and alarming when it does go off. It is very distracting and therefore dangerous as it goes off abruptly multiple times a day while I am driving. It is available for inspection and the dealership has attempted to find a solution but unable to. There is no warning prior to the message, it goes off beeping loudly and flashing a display of a coffee mug with a written message to consider taking a break. Please consider escalating this to the company so it can hopefully be fixed with a software update. Thank you.
At a slow speed the car lurched, paused, in traffic. The engine light is on. It could be dangerous.
Vehicle is 2025 Hyundai tuscon purchased 12/31/2025. On April 18th, as I was backing into my garage I noticed that I could not see through the right side end window. On closer look I noticed that the glass was shattered without any spots of particle hit or point of impact. I stopped and took pictures, took the vehicle to potamkin Hyundai and the service guy also took pictures. I went back on April 21 to see the service manager who also took pictures and advised me to give them some time to review. After about 1 week, I got the message that the request for replacement under manufacturer warranty had been declined and that I would have to replace this on my own.

Panoramic sunroof exploded while driving.
The panoramic sunroof glass suddenly shattered while the vehicle was being driven on the interstate, with no visible impact, object strike, or prior damage observed. The component involved is the sunroof glass panel, and it has already been removed and replaced through insurance repairs, so it is not available for inspection (however, pictures are available upon request). The incident created a loud, explosion-like sound and resulted in glass fragments falling into the interior of the vehicle, including onto the driver and the front-seat passenger, causing minor injuries. This also created a significant safety risk due to driver distraction, panic, and the potential for more serious injury while the vehicle was in motion at highway speeds. The issue has not been reproduced or independently duplicated by a dealer or service center; however, it was inspected and documented by the insurance company and repair facility during the claims and repair process, which confirmed that full glass replacement was necessary. The vehicle or component has been inspected by insurance representatives and a repair shop, but it has not been inspected by the manufacturer or law enforcement. There were no warning lamps, dashboard messages, or any prior symptoms indicating a problem before the failure occurred, and the sunroof appeared to fail suddenly and without any advance indication while the vehicle was in motion.
On 4/14/26, the glass area between the sunroof and directly above the front windshield, cracked and subsequently shattered. There was no impact and currently there is no damage to the sunroof or windshield. Upon checking online to figure out what this area is called, I discovered that this is a common problem with Hyundai vehicles (spontaneous glass cracking/shattering). This is a safety issue as shattered glass could get lodged in the vehicle or fly off the vehicle and injure someone. I have an appointment with a local Hyundai dealer tomorrow morning (4/19/26) to inspect the issue.
The car was backing out of a driveway in reverse. Came to a stop to shift to drive, and recieved a "shift system malfunction! service immediately" screen message and the car was locked in the middle of the roadway unable to be put into any gear or be turned off. It was a huge roadway safety issue. The tow driver had to search for a code or sequence of commands to put it into neutral to be able to be safely lifted onto the tow bed, and the vehicle was stuck in accessory mode, which effectively drained the battery.
Driver side door lock actuator failure yesterday. 4/10/26 purchased this car 8/15/25 was not told there was a problem and recall.
The display on the dashboard that includes the speedometer and other information goes completely blank. So does the heads-up display on the windshield. This could occur at the same time or individually. It may last only a few seconds or for several minutes. This has happened since I bought the car about 1. 5 years ago. I've had it to the dealership and they have noted the problem but have not been able to fix it. I know that genesis, which is part of Hyundai has had recalls about this problem, but so far Hyundai has not. Since it involves a loss of the speedometer, I think that it is a safety problem and should be addressed. It happens almost every time that I drive the car.
The contact owns a 2024 Hyundai Tucson. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 25v893000 (trailer hitches). The local dealer was contacted and confirmed that parts were on back order. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The contact had not experienced a failure.
While driving the dash screen starts to flicker on and off and then goes black and a no signal message appears on the screen. When this happens I have no gauges to check and no speedometer to view, very unsafe to drive with no gauges or speedometer. I’ve been to the dealership two times for this problem once in December of 2025 and again in April of 2026 and still have the same issue.
Approximately one month ago I had a high pressure fuel pump installed in my 2018 Hyundai Tucson. While driving on the highway, about ten minutes from home, my car suddenly burst into flames. There were no warning lights in the cockpit. There was no smoke in the cabin. Another motorist flagged me down. I got out of the vehicle just in time for it to become fully engulfed in flame. It burned down on the highway. Police and fire responded. Insurance is investigating. If I was inside the vehicle, I would have certainly died.

On 4/3/2026 heading to [xxx] on I 95 (outside of [xxx] ) traveling with traffic (3-4 lanes) I was in the middle lane going approx 74mph when on 5 separate but in close approximation (estimated within 20 mi) times, my car which was on cruise control, suddenly threw up warnings to pull over, shook my steering wheel, yanked my car toward the left lane (with traffic flowing the same way as I was) and suddenly decreased my speed to 64 mph before I could regain control! it was a beautiful, sunny day with no precipitation. Cars were swerving and beeping . My family was in the car. I stopped all cruise control and drove the remaining five hours to my destination scared out of my mind. I called local dealership, country club chevy, Dodge, Jeep, Hyundai etc. At 607432-9300 and told gavin what had occurred. I was unable to get into a dealership while I was in [xxx] for the brief time I was there. On my way home I tried cruise control on I 95 in the right hand lane all the way over so that no traffic could be on my right side. It was a beautiful day. It happened again to me, the warning lights, the decrease and speed the yank to the right the shaking steering wheel and the sudden breaking while I was in the state of [xxx] . I turned off cruise control again. I didn’t have a problem after that. When I I returned home, , I took the car in to be looked at at the dealership . They said they couldn’t find anything wrong. I contacted Hyundai motor corp at 800-523-4030. Case number 42576997 was assigned. I was put to Hyundai finance. No resolution. I contacted Hyundai corp office at 714-410-4382 and spoke with mohammed. To date, as of may 7 there has been no resolution as the dealership doesn’t have access to drive this car on a 4 lane rd. As we live in a real area. I do not feel safe driving this car. It is going to kill someone else on the road or someone in my family. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
"consider taking a break" warning comes on every 3-5 minutes after the car has been driving for an hour or so. Even after stopping, taking a break, and switching drivers, the warning comes on repeatedly. This is not a safety feature - it is a safety hazard. It is distracting to the point of being dangerous.
Hyundai Tucson sport 2016 gdi engine. I am the original owner of this truck I have taken care of this truck so much it being my first brand new purchase. No oil leaks nothing! when I first purchased the vehicle I noticed that it would stall when I would accelerate but did not think too much of it since it was brand new. A few years passed started to notice frequent oil changes were supposed to be made. Another few years turbocharger went out had to get it replaced. The engine consumes so much oil at first I thought it was because the turbocharger was out so when I got it fixed I thought that would fix that issue and it didn’t. I got an oil change March 2, 2026 and on March 21, 2026 I was on the highway and the truck started to shake really bad I exited the highway went straight to the oil place they said I had no oil on the dipstick I got another oil change (expensive) and when I turned on the car to leave the car shook again and the engine light was flickering on and off and finally stayed on the dash board. Barely made it home. Got a tow truck to tow it to Hyundai dealership they told me they will not see it unless I pay the diagnostic fee of $200 and even then they think it’s the engine with everything I described to them. They said since there are no recalls on the Tucson that Hyundai will not do anything for me I would have to pay out of pocket for everything. Had to pay the tow truck again to tow it to my house ($250). My car has all the symptoms all the other cars have that they have recalled. This is a huge safety issue because I drive on the highway a lot and everyone knows a car with no oil is extremely dangerous.
The contact owns a 2024 Hyundai Tucson. The contact was informed by the turo app that the VIN was associated with NHTSA campaign number: 25v893000 (trailer hitches); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact had not experienced a failure.
Component that is unsafe: moonroof glass taking in for inspection tomorrow. Safety risk: while driving on highway, glass spontaneously popped and fully shattered. Glass fell down onto myself and into the car as I was driving. This put my driving at risk. Major distraction as well as potentially being a harm to my physical self. Problem reproduced? I know that there are other reports on moonroof glass on a Hyundai Tucson cars that have been shattered with the same predisposing factors. Hyundai has also been reported to not take accountability claiming that foreign objects were the cause. No this vehicle has not been inspected, but I will be taking it in on Sunday. There were zero warnings before this.

The touchscreen is not reposnive to touch except in one tiny corner. We’re reported this at thw Hyundai dealership at least three times over the years- they said “they can’t see a problem”, which is odd because the screen literally does not respond to touch. When it’s hot, even with the ac on full blast, sometimes we will be driving and the touchscreen starts making beeps and starts going into the settings menu all on its own without being touched, and starts randomly changing settings. Or, we will connect a phone with google maps, and the screen will randomly change to something else or a different view. This is a dangerous distraction, and Hyundai has refused to acknowledge this problem. The screen is unusable, we are forced to use our phones to use navigation directions just to be safe in our own car. This has been an issue starting in 2023 and to this day has been persistent. We have done both hard and soft resets to ni avail. We have also reported, on going to the dealership, that the screen says to update- they have never provided any update or instructions on how to update, even though every time we go to the Hyundai maintenance we are there for at least two hours or more.
No check engine lights came on! the entire car caught fire and was engulfed in flames!!! driver could have been killed!.
The transmission began slipping and hesitating within days of purchase. The vehicle intermittently fails to accelerate when pressing the gas pedal, especially when pulling into traffic or crossing intersections. This creates a serious safety risk because the vehicle does not respond when needed, leaving me exposed to oncoming traffic. The issue is intermittent and does not always trigger warning lamps or fault codes. The problem has been reproduced multiple times by me while driving under normal conditions. The selling dealer performed only a brief test drive and stated they could not duplicate the issue, but the hesitation and failure?to?accelerate continue to occur. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by Hyundai, but the symptoms match known issues with the 2016 Tucson’s dual?clutch transmission and tcm logic. There were no warning lights prior to the failure, and the symptoms first appeared within the first week of ownership. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.
The problem first appeared after I bought my car to the dealership to replace an amplifier. Since then, my car has been there twice and they have not been able to identify the problem. I’m going back-and-forth with the dealership and Hyundai corporation. After numerous incidents with my other vehicles, I no longer trust this place to repair and at this time it’s a safety issue while I’m driving. I work in a school district in [xxx] when the kids are around I need my front and back up cameras to work. It’s a safety concern for me and I need your advice. My car was parked, without any trees or other objects that could possibly damage my car near by, and the glass on my front windshield cracked for absolutely no reason. It starts where the glass attached to the car and spreads to the middle of my windshield. I believe there is an installation defect because this car is only 2 years old and has never had any damage to it. I also read that this is a common problem with other Hyundai models.
All systems warning lights came on.
A persistent and dangerous safety defect regarding my 2026 Hyundai Tucson. Since February 19, 2026, I have experienced a chemical/burning odor when the heater is in operation. More alarmingly, exposure to these fumes while driving causes me and a passenger to experience severe headaches and dizziness, rendering the vehicle unsafe to operate. To date, I have presented the vehicle for repair on five separate occasions, including four visits to suresky Hyundai and a "second opinion" visit to healey Hyundai on April 2, 2026. Despite my documented physical symptoms and repeated visits, technicians have dismissed the issue as a "new car smell" or claimed the vehicle is "operating as designed. ".
Dear commissioner and dmv officials: I am writing to formally address a serious financial and safety concern affecting vehicle owners in connecticut. As a driver with over 50 years of experience—32 of those in CT—I have never experienced rodent damage to any vehicle until purchasing my 2023 Hyundai Tucson. Since acquiring this vehicle, I have suffered thousands of dollars in damage from rodents chewing through the wiring and wire housing. Multiple mechanics have confirmed this is due to manufacturers switching to soy-based and plant-derived biodegradable materials in wiring insulation. These materials are effectively edible, attracting rodents year-round—not just in cold months. This is not owner negligence. The root cause is a material deficiency in the vehicle's manufacturing. Consumers should not bear the financial burden of a known design choice made by the automaker. Repairs are costly, often excluded from warranties, and frequently not covered by insurance. I respectfully request the department: investigate the scope of rodent damage complaints linked to bio-based wiring in newer vehicles. Coordinate with NHTSA to evaluate whether this constitutes a safety defect warranting a recall. Advocate for regulatory standards requiring rodent-resistant wiring materials. Urge manufacturers like Hyundai to offer warranty coverage, reimbursement, or retrofits for affected vehicles. I am prepared to provide documentation of my repair expenses upon request. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Respectfully submitted, [xxx] NHTSA, CT attorney general, CT consumer protection, Hyundai consumer affairs information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I am submitting this complaint regarding Hyundai safety recall #290 (NHTSA recall no. 25v893) as it applies to my vehicle, VIN [xxx] . I received the official recall notice by mail on February 13, 2026. The recall identifies a defect involving the tow hitch wiring harness control module, which may allow water intrusion. According to the recall documentation, this defect can cause inoperative stop lamps and, in rare cases, an electrical short that could result in overheating or a vehicle fire. Since receiving the notice, I have contacted Hyundai motor America corporate customer care three separate times seeking escalation and guidance on how to safely address this recall. During each call, Hyundai stated that no repair solution, parts availability, or timeline exists for remedying the defect. Despite the recall involving a documented fire risk and potential brake/stop lamp failure, Hyundai representatives advised me that I could continue driving the vehicle while waiting indefinitely for a remedy. No interim safety measures, inspections, alternative repairs, or mitigation steps were offered. I am concerned that Hyundai is failing to properly execute a federally mandated safety recall and is placing consumers in the position of operating vehicles with known, unresolved safety defects. Being advised to continue driving under these circumstances creates a risk to vehicle occupants and to other motorists. I am requesting that NHTSA review Hyundai’s handling of recall #290, specifically regarding recall remedy delays, lack of escalation, and failure to mitigate an acknowledged safety risk, and take any enforcement or compliance action deemed appropriate. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
As of today, March 17, 2026 , my 2025 Hyundai Tucson keeps having safety issues. On March 8th , 11th, 14th and 25th the car once again shut down mid-drive. This issue occurred last month as well but dealership claims no dtcs were found. I am noticing that the forward collision warning comes on without any cars or objects in front periodically since the purchase of my car. The light will remain on for a few seconds and disappear. The automatic brake system seems to be causing issues as well which I believe causes the car to shut off completely mid-drive. Once the car shuts off the panel lights turn on to include the engine light, but then after a few seconds I able to change gears back to park in order to turn car back on and continue driving. This has happened now several times since last month. However, I have had issues with my brand new vehicle since I purchased it last year. My car remained in the dealership for 3 months last year due to an engine, ac and power train issues. Prior to the car shutting off, no actual warning lights illuminate other than the forward collision warning light and the notification of headlights are turned off even though it’s daylight and headlights do not need to be turned on . Periodically and intermittently an alert about consider taking a coffee break alert has also popped up in the past. It seems Hyundai has a severe issue with the fca operating system and over 100 complaints have been made about this vehicle nationwide and no recalls have been issued. I am afraid for my life and the life of others on the road as this car should not be stopping and shutting off while driving for no apparent reason.
While driving under normal conditions, the panoramic sunroof glass suddenly shattered without warning. There was no impact from road debris, no prior cracking, and no abnormal use of the sunroof. The failure occurred spontaneously and created a safety hazard due to falling glass and the risk of driver distraction or injury. This vehicle is equipped with the factory panoramic roof that has been the subject of a prior class action lawsuit and Hyundai technical service bulletin 19-bd-007h (panoramic roof moving glass warranty extension, code txxe). The failure I experienced is consistent with the known defect described in that settlement and TSB. Hyundai extended coverage for this defect to 10 years or 120,000 miles; however, Hyundai has denied assistance because the time limit has expired, even though the mileage remains within the coverage threshold. Given the known defect and safety implications, this failure should be addressed regardless of warranty expiration. This issue presents a safety concern due to sudden glass shattering while driving and should be investigated further.

There is a "consider taking a break" / coffee cup message that appears on the dashboard and beeps uncontrollably. It is annoying and distracting. It is of zero value since it is always false. It came up 5 times on my first 45 mile highway drive. This is not safety feature and in fact is reducing safety as it it annoying and makes me frustrated/mad instead of calm. Hyundai says there is no ability to disable it/turn if off as there was in their previous models.
