On or about may 1, 2025, I was operating my 2013 Hyundai Veloster when flames were observed emanating from under the hood. I immediately pulled into the median and, upon opening the hood, observed an active fire beneath the plastic engine cover. I contacted 911. Before the fire department arrived, a passerby extinguished the flames with a fire extinguisher. Firefighters from a nearby station arrived shortly thereafter and fully doused the engine compartment. The vehicle was subsequently towed to a Hyundai dealership. At that time, I was aware of an active recall related to potential brake line issues that could result in an engine compartment fire. After the vehicle remained at the dealership for an extended period, I was informed that Hyundai motor America (“hma”) would send an inspector. Approximately 30 days later, I was contacted by hma’s corporate office and asked to provide documentation, including a copy of the title and insurance information. During this call, I was advised that while repair or replacement of the vehicle was unlikely, hma would “make me whole. ” shortly thereafter, I received written correspondence from hma stating that, following its review of the inspection results, documents, and other information, no product defect was identified as the cause of the incident. The letter concluded that hma would not accept responsibility and denied my request for assistance or compensation.

I have a 2020 Hyundai Veloster 2. 0l and their is a knocking noise coming for the engine for the piston haven’t been properly heated right and when I search the VIN up on here it come up as a different car in the picture.
Motor started knocking yesterday 4/8/25 which was immediately followed by multiple dash sensors for oil and battery. As I pulled over to get assistance at a jiffy lube, the car stalled and wasn’t drivable but they also confirmed that the car should not be driven for risk of blowing the engine. Will be taking my vehicle in for an evaluation as soon as I am able to get it towed for further inspection and diagnostics.

The car is sluggish and loses power when it is taking off. It is like it is in slow mode. The other issue is that it uses lots of oil. I even had the dealership to repair the valve cover gasket. It should not use oil at the rate.

I was driving my vehicle and it began severely misfiring and stalled on me. I took it to the dealer and found there was damage to cylinder number 2 engine balance. After research I found there are many claims and complaints due to this type of issue. The likely cause is preignition caused by what Hyundai calls bad software. I recently purchase the vehicle and they say it was updated in July of 2024 and will not repair my vehicle as they say because of its age and mileage. That being said I’m at 120k mileage and work in the auto industry…. They is nothing that could cause valve burn outside of the known ignition issue with these cars. I have no problem paying for repairs due to my cause issues or normal wear and tear but a melted valve is caused by the know issues on these cars. I am looking for help working with Hyundai to get this issue fixed.

The car stall when I'm driving.
The reason I am submitting this form is because my 2016 Veloster turbo has an open recall out for premature wear in the bottom end (bearings and rods) and my car has been experiencing the same problems. I have had the highest rated shop in my area to look at the wear directly and it is clear this is the problem with the engine. Despite this all attempts to contact dealers and the manufacture have resulted in those parties claiming my unit was not affected during the recall and therefore there is nothing they can do to help me. It is clear my engine is experiencing the exact problems detailed in the recall and I have treated this engine as well I can as I had knowledge of these problems, even still my engine is only a couple hundred miles away from blowing up completely and not running. When this car was bought I added a catch can to specifically help with the premature wear on the engine as well as never revving the engine to over 5,0000 rpms. As well to both of the previously mentioned conditions I have consistently changed the oil every 3,000 miles or before with the best oil and oil filter money can buy. Despite all of this and treating the car as well as I possibly could I still experienced significant terminal damage to my engine and I haven't even hit 99,000 miles yet. This whole experience has been awful and near impossible even for me someone who is very well equipped to handle car problems and I can't imagine how a regular family with basic car knowledge could ever navigate and handle this situation accordingly. All I am looking for is some type of help in any way to move forward my car is still running and driving but if I continue to drive it, it will most definitely blow up leaving me stranded. Thank you for your time.

I have a recall on the Hyundai 2015 Veloster for four years since the lawsuit that you told Hyundai corp to put lifetime warranty on defective cars thgey have done nothing to resolve the problem. My car again is broke down to oil around sparkplugs I went through the same problem in oct 2023 which they put a gasket on it and charge me 505. 00 dollars. Now they are making it hard to find a engine to replaced the manufactured defect engine in it. Debris in crankshaft and then sold which cause the connecting rod problem premature. I need my car and can't afford another please help me get this resolve.

The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact noticed a extremely loud knocking sound that increased louder as the vehicle was being driven. The contact drove the vehicle to the shoulder of the road. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, however the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a failed engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA hotline and report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.
The component that failed is acceleration. He came from work at the frywed when he reduced the speed from 65 to 30 and no longer accelerated . . If an independent service had no warning or failure at that time they were detected.
The engine has a known issue with the port holes being too small to allow adequate oil flow, this has been addressed in the non turbo engines. Our Veloster had the same malfunction engine failure in which Hyundai is not covering and the dealership is doing a goodwill coverage of only 70% expense of engine only. When the engine throws a rod due to the malfunction it damages the turbo most times and they are requiring a full payment for that issue. Main focus is the engine when replaced has larger holes/ports and the engine can perform adequately. So as a consumer and owner we want to advise on this unbalance of coverage of the extended warranty. Especially since the turbo engine is identical just adding the turbo which it's performing at a higher rate.
Spontaneous rod knocking, hindered performance which in tern poor acceleration, which could become a safety risk especially when commuting on a freeway. High risk of motor vehicle accidents or could lead to a fatal incident if left stranded on major roadways and railroad crossings.
My engine is blown. The extended warranty offered by Hyundai does not cover the time period or mileage I've had deeming it useless. This is a serious problem and it should be addressed properly. I cannot drive this vehicle. I still owe on my loan. The warranty is not sufficient for the damages accrued regardless if I had signed up in time. This is dangerous, criminal and I'd like reimbursement.

My car 2015 hyundia Veloster has been under recall since 2021 for connecting rod failure in engine and oil leaking around spark plugs that could cause a fire plus what the other recall is. Hyundai corp refuses to repair my car, it has ksds, oil consumption, refuse to do engine inspection, wanting to charge me for items related to a recall. My car as stated with you before eating oil, poor compression stalls knock loses power I recently had to pay 3200. 00 for catalytic converters so I would have a car only to find out it could happen again due to recall number198. I need someone to help me get this resolve. Why should have to replace my engine when it under recall and you can't sell your car due to that? I have been fighting Hyundai corp for two years I had oil around my spark plugs in 2023, black spark plugs 2024.
The car lost power gradually ;when I was driving ; we were on the freeway and I couldn’t continue driving 60 miles per hour , therefore I turned on the turn signals cause I just could drive at 35 miles per hour and the car just start shaking ; I just look for the next exit by the time we were on risk on the emergency lane for along time cause the next exit was to far from there . And the car was too slow ,when we finally got exit I call and I stop my car and call the mechanic to ask for help and he help me plug in the scanner machine to my car and there was a problem with some cylinders and one valve and I decided to called to the dealer to get an appointment:. My vehicule already was checking for Hyundai but they just text me a message ; they said my car needs to replace a motor ,turbo ; some broken valves causing zero pounds of compression on cylinder 4-long block repair-new intake and exhaust manifolds (including turbo)required due to broken valve sending metal through the entire system -quote long block/intake and exhaust manifolds /turbo /all necessary gaskets and fluids for repair : I just was noted my car was consuming too much oil, cause the car board showed me 3 weeks ago and I need to add oil ,and the mechanic plugged in the scanner; but it doesn’t showed something else ;therefore 3 weeks ago I added 1/4 or more ; then was 2 week ago; I added 1/4 of oil again and then just last week I added 1/4 or more oil again ;I just was checking the oil constantly. ; and it should be noted that the car was not leaking oil but I didn’t understand why it was running out so quickly .
My vehicle has been burning through oil for 2 years now. It started with me having to get oil changes every 3 months, then 2, then 1, now I am forced to go get oil top offs every 2-3 weeks or the check oil light comes on and car drives very rough. I have been reaching out and opening cases with Hyundai and working with my local dealer for a year now and still nothing is being resolved. I need my engine replaced and they refuse, wanting me to jump through hoops and doing various tests only to tell me that even after I pay thousands for the tests, there’s no guarantee they can replace the engine. This is a known issue when you search online and thousands of people’s Hyundais are being affected. This vehicle is less than 10 years old it should not be having these issues. Hyundai is at fault for creating faulty vehicles and they are refusing to do anything about it.
A connecting rod bearing failed in the engine leading to catastrophic engine failure with the connecting rod breaking through the wall of the engine block causing a hole and undriveable vehicle. According to my research, this issue has been recalled in adjacent model years (2015-2016) but not in my model year (2013) that has the same engine. This issue has already been confirmed in these engines, but Hyundai states my car is not included in the recall. This was a safety risk because the engine failure breached the engine wall which could have ignited engine oil and caused a fire. The engine may have also failed at a critical driving moment when acceleration was needed and stranded the car in an unsafe position. Yes, the problem was reproduced at the dealer's service center because the failure occurred while they were test driving my vehicle. Since the service center tech was the one driving the car when the incident occured, I do not know if there was a fire or not and the speed they were traveling, etc. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealer service center and confirmed that this is the issue that caused the problem. The dealer even suspected this was going to happen as they had foreknowledge of the issue occurring on other vehicles that had already been recalled for this issue. The only prior warning of this issue is that I had some misfires on the engine a few days before which is what prompted me to bring it in for service. The misfires temporarily illuminated the "check engine" light but then the light went back out again. I had no idea this minor issue would result in such a severe, catastrophic failure.
Car hit 100k miles engine is knocking and mechanic says engine is blown. Researched the issue and found many other people having same issue. Hyundai issued a recall for this year's Veloster but is saying my car does not fall under the category even though it is one of the issued problems with vehicle.
As I was driving on the highway I started losing power and a warning of transmission over heating appeared on screen. I let the car sit and cool down and when I started it up again the same issue persisted, I had the car towed home. My vehicle is available for inspection upon request. My safety was put at risk since I was driving and highway speed and car just slowed down during rush hour traffic. The vehicle has not been expected at this time.
Shortly after finishing major repairs at my local dealer, I started to expirience, what I believe, now, to be a "low-end engine knock". Engine knock can usually occur due to oil starvation, where the connecting rod bearings are worn and debris enters the engine. So, I brought my car back to the dealer to ask them what this strange noise was I was hearing; I asked them if it could be the brand new clutch, or their equipment they left in the engine bay for me. They gave me an answer and it was to not drive the car anymore. One employee of the dealer even suggested "wrapping it around a telephone pole". . . They told me what the repairs would cost and I had not qualified for a warranty extention so I left. I acquired a definitive diagnostic elsewhere and was shown the gravity of the situation. My oil filter had caught pieces of the engine and it was dubbed an engine knock. This incident took me completely by surprise. I regularly changed my oil and never saw my levels get so low that they would be considered empty. I have only owned the car for 5 years and it being only 8 years old, I was hoping to enjoy the driving expirience for years to come. That sensation has been replaced with apprehension and possible engine fire. . . How do I afford to buy a new car every 5 years if I can't drive the one I have now??.
On may 13, 2024 my car had it's motor replaced. This was done at no charge by Hyundai of wesley chapel (not where I bought it). The motor was replaced because of a recall (product improvement campaign 966/ knock sensor detection system). On July 28, 2024 my car engine ( the new one they had given me 10 weeks earlier) overheated and broke down. We had the car towed back to Hyundai of wesley chapel. They were unable to determine the cause of the engine breaking down, other than that is was leaking coolant. Hyundai is asking me to pay for a diagnostic test, estimated at between $3,000 and $4,000 to determine the cause. We do not want to do that and don't believe we should be held responsible for this cost. We have not been provided with a loaner car. This is a big inconvenience that we need resolved.
The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed and coming to a stop light, the vehicle lost motive power with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer stated that no failures were found after the vehicle was inspected. The contact also stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated while driving from a complete stop, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to autozone, where diagnostic test codes indicated a timing chain failure and other diagnostic test codes were retrieved. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the engine had failed due to low engine oil, and the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that 2 quarts of oil was added to the vehicle. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, where the contact was informed that the engine was overfilled with oil. The mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the failure was related to the knock sensor. The vehicle was then taken to another dealer, great lakes Hyundai of dublin (2441 billingsley rd, columbus, OH 43235), where it was diagnosed. The dealer informed the contact that no engine failure was found; however, the catalytic convertor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power, went into limp mode, and failed to exceed 5 mph. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving 35-40 mph. The contact was able to drive to the residence. The contact stated that the vehicle had become undrivable. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they relied on the dealer’ assessment. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.
Vehicle is burning through oil without having oil light engaged. Vehicle is going through two quart + of oil every 3 weeks. Just added 2 quarts of oil 3 weeks ago when the car would not accelerate past 5mph and rough idled (this turned out to be caused by a different issue still being diagnosed), I added the oil as dip stick showed no oil on the stick. Light did not come on. Took to independent mechanic this week who stated I had no oil in the vehicle. Can not go 3 month/3000 miles for an oil change or the engine would be damaged. Have taken the vehicle several times to valvoline who indicate no oil with no oil pressure light on, each time. This has been constant for 2 years. Each mechanic shop states the gdi engines are burning through oil. No oil leaks have been detected. This issue could result in serious engine damage.
