While driving, the engine made clicking noises and all of a sudden the car just died. Also, when I tried starting the vehicle smoke came out of the engine. I was advised by a mechanic that the rod bearings needs to be replaced. Currently, there is a recall in regards to the rod bearings but only for 2015 and 2016.

The problem started with a ticking noise. I changed the oil hoping that this would resolve the issue but nothing changed. So, on the way home from running errands I hit the gas and the car made a bunch of loud noises and then stalled. It also began leaking oil. I removed the panel from underneath to see what happened and saw a bunch of aluminum fragments all over the panel.

While driving at highway speed the engine lost power and would not accelerate. Took the car to the dealer. Dealer inspected and found the catalytic converter was plugged again. The previous failure (separate report) in June 2019 caused the engine to fail. The vehicle had a new short block installed along with the catalytic converter. With 9000 miles on the new short block and cat, the cat is plugged again and the engine has a distinctive ticking sound that was present when the engine failed the last time. Hyundai has an issue that needs to be addressed. The vehicle is serviced at recommended intervals or before. We use standard gasoline with no aftermarket additives.

Car maintenance has been well kept. Road in DC, hit pothole suddenly engine started to make horrible noise and stalled out in the middle of traffic. No tapping noise before this incident. All of a sudden metal in oil and was towed to Hyundai dealership. Dealership told me my engine seized. As a single mom this is not a reliable or safe. I was only going 35mpg. If this happened at a higher speed or on a highway this could of been a fatal incident.

2013 Hyundai Veloster non turbo 39,000 miles catalytic converter failure and engine failure while driving. While driving the vehicle on a rural road, the engine shut down and the car lost power. I noticed smoke from the exhaust when the engine shut down. I was able to pull the vehicle to the side of the road. Vehicle was towed to dealer where it was found the catalytic converter had failed. It was noted that the engine had a loud ticking sound that it did not have prior to the catalytic converter failure. The engine is going to be replaced with cost share from Hyundai. This is not a unique issue and has been recalled for the same exact same issue in the kia soul with the 1. 6l engine. This issue should be addressed in full by the manufacturer.

I have a 2013 Hyundai Veloster turbo with a 1. 6 liter turbo engine that threw a rod thru the engine block. Hyundai issued recalls on the sonata and they have been replacing defective 1. 6 liter turbo engines for some Velosters and not others that are having identical problems. They should have to recall all of them. I had a ticking sound for approximately one month and it sounded like a lifter tick. After doing a lot of online research everyone said to continue driving it because it was carbon build up on the intake valves . I am an ase master tech with over 40 years experience and I have never heard a rod make a ticking sound like this. There are lots of complaints on line concerning this issue and Hyundai has not recognized them. Yes they do offer a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty to the original purchaser and only a 5 year 60,000 mile warranty to the second owner. I had to have the standard transmission replaced at approximately 28,000 miles by Hyundai for a design flaw in the transmission case causing the seal to leak, but they will not do anything about the engine because I am the second owner. If I was the original owner they would replace it. I have changed my oil and filter every 3 to 4,000 miles and my car is pampered by me . When it threw the rod I was pulling from a stop sigh at less than 5 mph and less than 1,000 rpms and it died as I was turning onto the highway.
Dealer says they can't replicate the problem. Vehicle has intermittent problems starting. When turning key in ignition, usually in colder weather in the mornings, vehicle will not start. There is just a 1-click sound per ignition cycle, but no ignition occurs. All lights come on dash, radio turns on, etc. Replaced battery due to failed battery test, but this did not fix the starter problem. I believe the starter assembly is starting to fail but the dealer has been very unhelpful. I drive a lot for work, especially to remote areas, and I'm going to get stranded eventually without any cell service.
So my motor started making this ticking noise coming from the engine and I brought it to the dealership and they said I need a new motor due to the fact I just bought the not even a month from the small dealership which they don't offer warranty. I though it would still have warranty cause it still under 100k and it still under 10yrs warranty I thought they would cover it but instead it wat to the previous owner only now gonna cost me $11000 for new motor.
