4 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2003 Infiniti I35

Failure Date: 09/22/2014

I bought a used 2003 infinity I-35 about a year ago and it was running fine until about a week ago when the engine suddenly shut off without warning while I was driving through an intersection. It really upset my girlfriend because we could have been ¿t-boned on the passengers side and she could have been killed. When I got the car started it ran fine, like normal, except the ¿slip, ¿tcs, and ¿check engine soon lights all remained on. This has happened several times since then and now I'm concerned. I think that it might happen at another intersection and we won't be so lucky next time. The car has restarted everytime, with the slip, tcs and check engine lights staying on as before, except the check engine light always stays on all the time. From the complaints I have read on-line by several others that have had the same problem, it seems clear to me that this problem has been continually occurring in all models of the infinity line year after year, and the Nissan motor company doesn't want to admit that there is a problem that they knew about and could have corrected but didn't, so they will not be held responsible in any wrongful death lawsuits.

5 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2003 Infiniti I35

Failure Date: 09/03/2014

As I was approaching an intersection to make a left turn my car died suddenly. I wasn't sure what was happening. Since it started up immediately I didn't really think anything of it. Since the check engine light stayed on, I brought it in to my mechanic and he checked it out and thought he had fixed the issue. I had no issues for a short period of time. When it happened the second time and I was driving 35 mph, I knew something had to be wrong. This time the check engine soon light, slp and esc light all came on and the car starts jerking forward and then the car died. I managed to steer the car from the left lane to the right lane and pull over. It was a really strange and scary feeling. I told my mechanic what happened and he said cars just don't die as you are driving them and I said well this one did. I brought it to my mechanic again and the code p0345, cam sensor came up. After bringing it in a few times for the same issue, check engine soon light, slp and esc light all coming on and the car jerking forward we decided to see if there were any recalls on the car. Our research showed that there was a recall on this issue and we should contact Infiniti. I contacted Infiniti and they said my VIN is not on the recall list for this issue. My question is what does it take for Infiniti to own up that there is an issue with owners driving a car and it dying suddenly? obviously it will take a few serious accidents. I brought my car into the dealer today hoping that they will fix this issue. When I told the dealer what was happening he said you have a technical issue and it is not a recall.

6 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2003 Infiniti I35

Failure Date: 08/04/2014

The check engine soon light, slip warning, and the esc light all came on and the car shut off while I was driving. I steered the car to the side of the road. Tried to restart the car. It restarted, but the start was tepid. Drove the car to work. Made an appointment with the Infiniti dealer. Drove to dealer and the event happened again but did not stall. Service department stated it was a bad cam sensor that needed replaced. Researched this and found that Nissan/Infiniti had recalled I35's for bad crank shaft / cam sensors under recall r3021/03v-455. Though close, my VIN did not fall into the covered population, even though the described issue in the recall is exactly what happened to me. The dealer is not able to replace the sensor under the recall. Why is this? how is it determined what VIN's fall into the population? it is clear that I and others are having the exact same issue as was noted in the recall.

7 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2003 Infiniti I35

Failure Date: 05/24/2014

Recall - NHTSA campaign id number: 03v455000. Engine stopped while driving in normal conditions which could have caused a catastrophic accident. Loss complete control of the vehicle and the "slip" light, "tcs off" and "check engine light" all came on with complete engine failure while driving with no ability to regain control. I took the car to a mechanic and was told there is a code "p0340" - camshaft position sensor failure. Infiniti corporate had issued a recall # r3021 for this major issue. When I called Infiniti corporate to take part of this serious recall and service my vehicle, they did not want to help claming that they did not mark my VIN # for the recall. This is a major issue with most Infiniti I35's and many nissans as well. Infiniti seems to not care and has put my life in complete jeopardy.

18 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2003 Infiniti I35

Failure Date: 02/09/2010

The car suddenly loses throttle control under normal driving conditions; the engine return to "idle speed". I was driving on the expressway and all of a sudden the check engine light came on and the car started slowing down. I pressed on the gas pedal all the way down but the car refused to accelerate. I managed to pull over and stop the engine. And then restarted the car and it seemed to work ok for a while and then did it again. I managed to get it to the dealer and it has been there since while they try to figure out why this is happening. This problem started happening about a year ago. The throttle body has been replaced 4 times in the last year; the throttle body contains the electric actuator for the throttle and the sensors that tell the computer the position of the throttle. I am really concerned about driving the car in traffic because it could suddenly "cut out" and lead to an accident.
